Racist "Eat Tacos" Mayor Must Resign Now!!!

NYTimes reports: Hispanic residents and civil-rights advocates have raised alarms for years about the police in East Haven, Conn. Their claims gained chilling corroboration on Tuesday. The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a sergeant and three officers on charges of terrorizing the town’s Hispanic neighborhoods, stopping and detaining people, searching businesses without cause, beating people in handcuffs, smashing a man’s head into a wall.

The charges echoed what the Justice Department reported in December, accusing East Haven police of widespread “biased policing, unconstitutional searches and seizures and the use of excessive force.” This was made more appalling when the mayor, Joseph Maturo Jr., was asked by a reporter how he would respond to the arrests and said that he might have tacos for dinner. First, he said he was joking. When it dawned on him that snide flippancy was the wrong response to grave accusations of police brutality, he said he was sorry for his “off-collar comment.”

That is not enough. Mayor Maturo should now resign. He has shown a stunning incapacity for understanding the severity of the scandal in his government and has been fatally compromised by his knee-jerk support for the tainted police department and its chief. The mayor’s repugnant remark is the least of it. This case is about institutional brutality and oppression.

The East Haven case is one squalid part of the far larger furor over immigration, where Spanish-speaking people are met with suspicion and abuse and states and localities rush to pass laws empowering local police officers to harass presumed illegal immigrants. Racial-profiling is flourishing in this climate, and the Obama administration has rightly stepped up efforts to fight it. Judging from the racism so casually exhibited by Mr. Maturo, it’s going to be a long struggle.

On Tuesday, the FBI arrested four East Haven Conn policemen charging them with a conspiracy that one official called “a cancerous cadre” of “bullies with badges” to deprive Latino residents of their constitutional rights. (Extreme Racial Profiling and Abuse). The four officers were Sgt. John Miller, Dennis Spaulding, David Cari and Jason Zullo, according to an indictment released by the office of U.S. Attorney David B. Fein. The indictment paints a devastating picture of abuses, listing more than 30 “overt acts” committed to further the conspiracy. The report also indicates the conspiracy rose to the top of the department.

Zullo worked with Spaulding and Cari under the watch of Miller during the 4 p.m. to midnight shift. The group of officers, all under the age of 35, were known as "Miller's Boys." They frequently bashed and abused arrested Latinos.

After the arrests of the 4 racist officers, a local reporter pointed out to East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. that there were no Latino officers on East Haven's police force. Maturo angrily responded, "And your point being?" Then, when asked what he planned to do for the Latino community in light of the discrimination allegations, the mayor said, "I might have tacos when I go home, I'm not quite sure yet."

Today, a local Latino Group sent the racist Mayor Five Hundred Tacos. "The mayor has shown a total lack of respect for the constituents he has been sworn to serve to the best of his ability," said Henry Fernandez, a local Latino spokesman.

At lunch today, my husband and I discussed ideas to increase Jobs for Americans. We came up with an idea and want to pass it on to President Obama. We call it "The Jobs for Americans Plan." I am advertising this plan here, on Daily Kos and on Facebook. I sent this to the President via his White House website.

Both my husband and I worked for Fortune 500 companies. We know and understand that a number of companies outsource many jobs offshore. These are jobs many Americans, especially middle class Americans want. These are jobs that, when they were outsourced off-shore, meant lay-offs for hard-working Americans. Business says they outsource to save money. Offshore, they are not required to pay employees at the same rate. Offshore, they are not required to maintain OSHA sanctioned, safe environments. Offshore, they are not required to adhere to union bargained contracts. Offshore, these employees do not pay U.S. income taxes, nor are companies required to pay social security taxes or unemployment premiums based on payroll amounts.

Types of jobs sent offshore:
. Production: physical manufacturing (primarily to China)
. IT Services: Software Engineering (primarily to India & other English speaking countries) HP, IBM, Intel, AT&T, AMD, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, SAP, BEA, etc.
. Innovation Outsourcing: to South Africa, India, Pakistan, China, Mexico, Russia, etc.
. Transfer of Intellectual Property
. Customer Service: All customer service work to English Speaking Countries (any company that provides Customer Service via phone or internet)

Our "The U.S.A. Jobs for Americans Plan & Honors Program":
1. Identify and report the rate of off-shore staffing in each U.S. based company.
(e.g.: Apple and IBM each staff 100,000 employees. Each staff 20,000 employees offshore = 20%)
2. Each company that outsources offshore is asked to reduce offshore staffing by 50% and replace those workers with US Based employees.
(e.g.: Apple and IBM are each asked to replace 10,000 of their offshore employees with 10,000 US based workers)
3. Each company that participates in the plan receives a tax reduction for each offshore employee replaced by a U.S. employee equal to 25% of each employee's compensation (fully loaded).

After he was declared the winner of the South Carolina primary, Gingrich boasted of his win and careened around the stage with his horrendous, cheshire cat smile, side by side with the shameless "other woman" who had an adulterous affair with him. Can you begin to imagine her as First Lady???

How could the TeaParty Republicans in South Carolina who proclaim they are Christian Conservatives vote for him?

The Answer: What convinced the TeaParty Republicans to vote for Gingrich were Gingrich's attacks on the media and on minorities during the debates. TeaParty Republicans like Gingrich because he yells, screams loud and turns red in the face as he attacks his opponent. Like a venomous snake, he yelled at the CNN host for daring to ask him about his well documented adulterous affairs. In another debate, he screamed and yelled that our President is a "Food Stamp President" and he advocated that Black/Minority children should take jobs as Janitors while the Black Janitors are Fired from their jobs. The all-white TeaParty Republicans stood up and applauded with their cheers and approval. They want their candidate to be mean, red-faced and angry in debates against our Black President. They want their candidate to attack Immigrants and Mass Deport the 11 Million here and never Pass the Dream Act. Gingrich's attacks against our President, Minorities and Immigrants prove he meets their criteria. That's why he won their votes in South Carolina last night.
However, their approval of Newt is also good news for our President and the Democratic Party. Newt can never be elected. He is far too flawed for the vast majority of American Public to vote for him as President. His many flaws, mistakes and crimes are available for anyone to see with a quick Google search.

Even on the surface, Gingrich is a big Fake! He pretends he is an intellectual but he does so by overusing a few words, including:"Fundamentally." "Profoundly." "Deeply." and "Frankly." Next time you hear him speak, count the number of times he says these words. He is also a big FAKE when he says he is "one of us." No he is not! He and his former mistress, now wife, have a Million Dollar credit line at Tiffanys. He is a millionaire lobbyist who lobbied for Fannie and Freddie. They paid him over $1.6 Million dollars for his efforts. He was charged with 84 Ethic Violations when he was Speaker. He has violated tax law and LIED to the ethics panel. The mostly White Republican Tea Party audience in North Carolina at the Republican Prez Convention displayed their true Racist gutteral instincts when they booed African American Juan Williams when he asked the very arrogant, condescending and dismissive Newt Gingrich about his racist comments against minorities. The racist Newt called Barack Obama the "Food Stamp President." Gingrich attempted to convey that the only people who receive food stamps are Blacks or minorities who don't want to work. (What a vicious and incorrect stereotype.) However, the mostly white Republican TeaParty Audience cheered Newt when he dismissed Juan by saying, "First of all Juan..." as the very racist audience egged Newt on. It is the most explicit display of elitist racism by a very priveleged, ELITE racist, white audience that I have ever witnessed!

The applause by the White Audience was absolutely drowning. The primarily white North Carolina crowd was rabid with their drowning cheers and applause (Newt, Newt, Newt) Poor Juan Williams was not even provied an opportunity to respond and instead white commenter Brett Baier closed the discussion.

The Republicans will wonder why they will receive nary a minority vote in November. When they ask why, all we have to do to answer their questions is point back to this video.

DECISION 2012: We Need to Inform and Prepare Ourselves for the Baby Boomer Retirement Era and for a Better Tomorrow!

The Baby Boomers are aging and it is critically important that we understand the approaching New Era. The Baby Boomer generation was born between 1946 and 1964. With an average of 4 Million born per year, the total is about 78 million Americans. They grew up with Elvis, the Beatles and Disco. They experienced Vietnam, Civil Rights, Equal Rights and Freedom. Now, they are approaching retirement. The first wave turned 65 in 2011. They all will turn 65 between 2011 and 2029.

With life expectancy in America being 75 for men and 80 for women, the majority of baby boomers will die between 2026 and 2044. As our Boomer generation is entering into this stage, it is also important to understand other statistics.

Five Statistics about American Baby Boomers that will Shock You:
1. 40% of Americans do not contribute to a voluntary Retirement Savings Plan nor do they have a Traditional Pension Plan(Employer Funded). This is primarily due to the fact that since the Reagan years, the majority of Businesses no longer provide the Traditional Pension Plan. Instead they offer voluntary retirement savings plans. Additionally, 50% of those with voluntary Retirement Savings Plan access (borrow/withdraw) and often deplete these funds prior to retirement.
2. 40 - 50% of people currently on Social Security rely ENTIRELY on their social security payments as their SOLE income.
3. 70 - 75% of Americans today start claiming social security at 62, the earliest moment they are eligible, many because they do not have any other income.
4. 25 - 40% of Boomers SAY they are postponing their retirement and plan on continuing to work "until they drop" because they do not want to rely on social security as their sole means of income.
5. Studies indicate that after age 65, those that retire at 55 have a 40% higher risk of death than their counterparts that retire at 65.

Illness After Retirement and Healthcare:
Let's think about these numbers. When you retire, most people only have about 10 - 15 years left to live. When you stop working, you are more likely to become ill and require healthcare. The top 5 causes of death of the elderly in America are:
1.Heart Disease 2.Cancer 3.Lower Respiratory Disease 4.Diabetes 5.Alzheimers
Hospitalizations of the elderly for these illnesses are extensive and costly.

Look at the chart. From 2020 - 2040, we will have massive numbers of retired Baby Boomers who will rely entirely upon Social Security as their primary source of income. Many/most of these retirees will experience chronic illnesses, particularly the Top 5 illnesses listed. Who will care for these impoverished, ill, elderly Americans? Many will not be able to take care of themselves. We only have about 10 years to think about this before we suffer the severe impact of this crisis.

In 2012, we are at a Crossroads. The Republicans have already announced their plan. However, there is another choice:
1. The Republican Choice - Hysteria: We can Cut, Cut, Cut. We can CUT Social Security and we can CUT Medicare as the Republicans are advocating. We can let the Baby Boomer retirees fend for themselves and ship them off to ill-equipped "old folks homes" as we did before and during the Big Depression, prior to Social Security and Medicare.

2. The Better Choice - A Plan for a Better Tomorrow: Let's HONOR our Seniors!
We cannot allow the Republican scare tactics to drive us into a deeper hole in the future. What we can do is think about the needs of our elderly. Within the next few years, we are going to face severe Labor shortages. We need to refocus on Education in our Country and provide incentives for those that major in the needed jobs of tomorrow. Additionally, instead of allowing restrictionists to DRIVE OFF FUTURE IMMIGRANTS, we need to figure out how to increase the number of new immigrants we are going to need to staff the jobs of tomorrow.

AMERICAN JOBS NEEDED from 2020 - 2050:
. Healthcare: Hospital workers, Doctors, Nurses, Home Care, Hospice; Hospital Equipment; Administration; Food Service
. Pharmaceuticals: Pharmacists, Product & Development, Production
. Insurance: Administration, Sales, Service
. Investment, Retirement Wealth Management: Administration, Sales, Service
. Housing: Retirement Homes; Apartments for the elderly
. Energy: since more people will be living (illness)/working from home
. Innovation: Product Development for items critical to the elderly
. Call Center Workers for each of these industries
. Small Businesses specializing in care for the elderly
(There will be incredible opportunities for entrepreneurs)

These jobs cannot be outsourced. These jobs will remain in the U.S. because the elderly live here. We also must remember: these on-shore American jobs will all pay Income Taxes and Social Security taxes. They will replenish the funds where they are needed most. These jobs will create more jobs. There will be plenty of room for Innovation, Product Development, Customer Service and Manufacturing too. There will be plenty of sources for new income. The Boomer Retirement Era will move us out of our current economic crisis and into a new stage of prosperity for America. That is, if we understand what our future holds in store for us and plan for the needs of our Seniors. We cannot cut them off from their Social Security and Medicare. Instead, we should plan for a better future for all of us as we head into a brighter tomorrow.
President Obama, I ask you to deliver this message to the American Public. Help us all understand what the future holds in store for us and help us understand that TOGETHER we will all prepare ourselves for a better tomorrow!

I ask all of my readers to keep yourselves informed of what is happening in Iran.

Tensions are increasing with Iran as International Inspectors say they are getting closer to nuclear capability. The U.S. and Israel and our allies have asked the U.N. to impose economic sanctions against them in order to persuade them to stop. Iran says they are going to proceed.

Covert actions have taken place in Iran. Two Iranian nuclear scientists have been "covertly" killed with no one taking responsibility, but Iran is blaming Israel and the U.S.

With all the tension occurring, Iran is threatening to block U.S. ships from entering the Persian Gulf at the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is vowing not to back down.

Now, the stage seems to be set for war. What is also troubling is, some countries are saying they support Iran's perspective of having nuclear weapons. This includes China, Russia, Venezuela and Cuba. We have to be very careful. We do not want to enter into a 3rd World War.

The debate over how to stop Iran's progress is escalating. Israel and many Republicans are getting impatient. Some are advocating a military "first strike" on Iranian nuclear facilities. Since the 2008 election, John McCain and Sarah Palin have been singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran."

The President and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have vowed to keep strong, but level-headed and diplomatic through these discussions.

From my view, I believe level heads and diplomacy must prevail. I am not an advocate of war. I must admit, however, that I do agree with the President's alternative methods to "getting the job done." Utilizing Special Ops to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden was a brilliant manuever. The utilization of drones and satellite technology are also brilliant tactics. These methods save so many innocent lives. Can you imagine the carnage and innocent lives lost if Bin Laden's compound and surrounding city had been bombed? How many soldiers' lives would we have lost had troops been sent in to take over the city?

I've been listening to talk radio to hear the Republican view. Many of them are chastizing our President, saying he is weak for not charging into war with Iran and not taking credit for the killings of the Iranian scientists. They advocate escalation to war. What they are advocating is insanity and would only result in more lost lives of our soldiers and innocent people.

I believe we as a nation must support our President and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as they use logic, technology, diplomacy, and receive the backing of our allies and the U.N.

Mitt Romney is one scary dude. He is leading the Repub Pack running for President right now. Gingrich and Perry say he is Gordon Gekko from Wall Street - a venture capitalist - Corporate Raider - who, when at Bain Capital,took over and ravaged businesses, laying off thousands - outsourcing offshore even more, and since Wall Street LOVES these ravages, Bains was rewarded by Wall Street and made Millions/Billions for Bain Investors and for Romney and his peers.

Gekko's favorite line was: "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good!"

As I remember 2008, the year of the Great Recession and Stock Dive during George Bush's term, was caused by Venture Capitalists and Corporate Raiders like Romney. Romney is an elitist. That is clear.

Romney is also a flip flopper. It is difficult to believe a word he says. So often, he has taken the opposite side of many issues, including:

He will talk about his support of Immigration Issues, the Dream Act, the roots of his ancestors in Mexico and more. If Mitt becomes the candidate, as soon as these ads are available, I will post them.

The issue is: No One Can Believe Romney. He is the world's biggest flip - flopper. His decisions will be based on the moods of his backers, whoever provided him the most PAC Monies. Very Scary Stuff!!

Today, many seniors rely primarily on their Social Security checks as their only means of support and for their survival. While some Republicans say their proposals will not impact anyone born before 1955, on Friday, Republican Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum called for immediate cuts NOW. Santorum wants to increase the Social Security age to 75 and he wants "means testing." Republican Paul Ryan's plan is to replace Social Security with private savings accounts provided by Big Business.
It is clear, Republicans are NOT interested in the NEEDS of our senior Americans. They are pandering to their Big Business backers. Republicans portray the Social Security fund as being insolvent right now. They are LYING to the American public and they know it.
Today, the Social Security Fund has a SURPLUS. During 2011, the Social Security Trust Fund held $2.6 trillion. Even by Republican statistics, the Social Security fund will remain in surplus through the 2030s. The problem is, starting with the Reagan Administration, the government started borrowing from worker contributions. By 2015, the government is expected to have borrowed nearly $3.25 trillion from the Social Security Trust Fund.
Now let's suppose the Republicans win the election. If they are successful in passing a bill that will END Social Security as we know it, their bill will wreak havoc on our American Seniors:

1. Up the retirement age to 75: Workers in their 50s are having difficulty finding work now. As these workers get into their 60s and 70s, with so many in poor health, how will they find jobs? How will they live if they cannot find or are unable to work and have no income?
2. PRIVATIZATION:
a. Big Business GETS RICH - By Privatizing Social Security, what a windfall for Big Investment Companies, the Big Business groups that pay so much to Republican/Politicians' Political Action Committees (PACs).
Question: How many people in America utilize private retirement savings accounts today? (many)
More Importantly: How many Americans who have ACCESS to their retirement funds KEEP IT in their retirement funds, until retirement, at a rate that will allow them to earn a monthly income that will help them survive for the rest of their lives - as Social Security does? The answer - LESS THAN 10%.
Why? Most People who have these type of accounts and have access to their retirement funds withdraw or borrow from them. Life has countless emergencies.
But, what will happen to these millions of elderly Americans who have NO RETIREMENT FUNDS? Republican Scrooges would say "Let them Die and decrease the surplus population."

b. NO PAYBACK TO AMERICANS: With Republican plans to change Social Security immediately, what happens to all of the money each of us have invested into the Social Security Fund? Are Republican proposals planning on giving our funds back to us? Are Republican proposals insisting checks be written to each American who has contributed so we can privately invest our contributions? (NO!)

3. MEANS TEST: Wait until you hear this one. Republicans want to reduce payments to anyone who makes over $55,000 a year. Imagine. Pay into social security but NEVER receive any Social Security checks when we are old and cannot work.
These Republican Plans will have a vast impact on the majority of American Seniors. These Republican plans will put many Seniors into bankruptcy and ruin.

Today, The truth is, over ninety percent of Americans who have access to their retirement funds BORROW or WITHDRAW these funds prior to their retirement.
The truth is, over fifty percent of Americans over 65 rely on their Social Security as their sole means of support. Without Social Security, they will be forced out of their homes and onto the streets. No food. No healthcare. No place to live. Nothing.
The truth is, WE THE PEOPLE cannot and should not elect a Republican as President in 2012.

There is a way to ensure Social Security will stay at a level that will sustain our Seniors through the decades and centuries ahead. The fix is simple. Afterall, the Social Security Fund was meant as a form of insurance. We all pay our Social Security taxes. We should be able to collect when we retire while keeping the retirement age where it is.
Here is one small change that will immediately FIX Social Security with LITTLE IMPACT to anyone:
. MODIFY THE PAY IN CAP: Today, each year, workers PAY IN to the Social Security Fund until they earn about $100,000. After that, they stop paying social security taxes for that year

This means someone who earns $400,000 a year only pays social security taxes until March, while the rest of us continue to pay 7.65% of our wages into Social Security for the remainder of the year.
Millionaires pay for one month only.
IF we changed the PAY IN CAP to $250,000, we would more than DOUBLE our Social Security Tax Fund. People making $400K would still only pay into the fund until July and the millionaires only until March.

The Republican Plan to End Medicare as We Know It and Kick Granny to the Curb!

If Republicans win the Presidency and the Senate and keep the House, they will implement their agenda. Their first mission is to end Medicare as we know it and stop/end Universal Healthcare -- or as they call it "Obamacare."

They will surely re-introduce and pass Paul Ryan's plan to END MEDICARE As We Know It! Ryan's plan privatizes Medicare. Our elderly will NOT have a choice of the standard medicare plan. Instead, they will be provided a voucher to shop for healthcare from private healthcare companies. There are dollar limits to these vouchers and there are no requirements for these companies to accept anyone with pre-existing conditions.

It's important to understand how current Medicare works before understanding what we are asking our Seniors to give up with Ryan's plan. Counter to what many Americans believe, Medicare is NOT free. Our seniors are required to pay a monthly Premium of about $110 a month. Plus, they pay 20% for doctor visits and a hefty deductible if they have hospital stays. (unless they are on Medicaid)

So now you may be thinking, "So what's the big deal? The Seniors still have to pay some costs. Isn't what they don't pay now sort of like a voucher?"

The answer: No.
Here are the dangers of the Ryan plan.
1. Pre-Existing Conditions: Medicare accepts ALL eligible seniors, regardless of pre-existing conditions. How many seniors with pre-existing conditions will go without care?
2. Vouchers have a cap! Hospital stays are expensive. If seniors require extensive care, they pay. Worse yet, many seniors may opt not to receive care rather than having to pay for what they can't afford.
3. Doctor Fees: Today, doctor's who accept Medicare patients must bill according to Medicare guidelines. Many doctors don't like this. They want to charge whatever they want to charge. With Ryan's plan, they won't have Medicare guidelines. Seniors will be forced to go to care providers that they can afford with their meager vouchers.
4. Prescription Drugs: Today, prescription drug prices must fall within Medicare prices guidelines. Seniors will be forced to purchase what they can afford with their meager vouchers. How will they afford Brand drugs or the outrageously expensive drugs for catastrophic illnesses? Cancer drugs? Will they just stop taking them when they can no longer afford them?

Many seniors today rely primarily on their Social Security to not only pay for their Medicare co-pays, but as their only means of survival.

Here's something else you should be aware of. There are two major reasons we have so many cost overruns with Medicare:
a. the cost the government pays to private healthcare companies to administer Medicare Advantage and Medicare Billing programs.
b. the cost of FRAUD and Waste.

What President Obama is attempting to accomplish with Universal Healthcare is to reduce/eliminate the costs charged by private healthcare providers, utilize technology to reduce waste/redundancy and to monitor/reduce fraud. This will save Billions.

SAN DIEGO -- Joe Arpaio has always been part Bull Connor, part Barney Fife. When the sheriff of Arizona's Maricopa County is not impersonating the commissioner of public safety in Birmingham, Ala., who symbolized bigotry during the civil rights movement, he sort of resembles the bumbling sheriff's deputy who patrolled Mayberry.

Arpaio has been that way for the 13 years that I've written about him, dating back to when I worked for The Arizona Republic newspaper in the late 1990s. That was a different Arizona. It depended on illegal immigrants; it did not despise them. Ever since the state declared open season last year on illegal immigrants and those who might be suspected of being one (read: Latinos), Arpaio has been attracting attention by hunting people with brown skin and Spanish accents.

Arpaio's critics accuse him of abusing his authority and discriminating against Latinos. Now that the Department of Justice and a U.S. District Court judge have consigned those charges -- and added more of their own -- at least those critics know they're not crazy. What they thought was happening might actually be happening.

In recent years, Arpaio has demonstrated an almost pathological desire to pick on Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. I tend to think it's not personal but more about targeting a group that he thinks he can get away with mistreating. Imagine the dust storm at the Arizona Chamber of Commerce if the Republican lawman stopped busting illegal immigrants and started padlocking businesses that employ them.

Like most bullies, Arpaio only picks on people who can't fight back. He is empowered by a population of voters in Maricopa County who obviously feel anxious over changing demographics and need to feel superior to someone. Those who come from south of the border -- or whose ancestors did -- fill this role.

When things go this wrong, the federal government has to make them right. After a three-year investigation, the Justice Department recently issued a scathing report that accused Arpaio's office of having a "pervasive culture of discriminatory bias against Latinos," engaging in "unconstitutional policing" that includes raids based on racially tinged citizen complaints and retaliating against critics.

Meanwhile, U.S. District Judge Murray Snow dealt Arpaio another blow in a case involving a civil rights lawsuit from 2007, in which sheriff's deputies were accused of racially profiling Latinos in immigration sweeps masquerading as traffic stops. In addition to issuing legal sanctions against Arpaio for destroying documents, Snow also barred the sheriff and his deputies from detaining people simply for being in the country illegally. The judge -- who criticized deputies for circulating emails that "compared Mexicans to dogs" -- certified the lawsuit as a class action that would cover all Latinos who have been "stopped, detained, questioned or searched" by Arpaio's officers.

It's about time this bill came due. Arpaio was bending the rules even before the Arizona Legislature passed a tough immigration law last year that requires local and state cops to enforce federal law. He used state anti-smuggling laws to round up illegal immigrants and then accused them of being co-conspirators with the smugglers. And he took full advantage of the federal 287(g) program that allows local law enforcement agencies that want to play Border Patrol agent to enter into agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement allowing them to do just that.

But it was when the immigration law passed that Arpaio really went into overdrive. The sheriff's office conducted vehicle checkpoints and raided businesses acting on tips from concerned citizens outraged that there were people -- gasp -- speaking Spanish on the premises.

Opponents of the law predicted this sort of thing would happen, and, for their trouble, they were accused of assuming that all local law enforcement officers were racist.

No, not racist. Just human, burdened with prejudices like anyone else. Given the task of finding illegal immigrants but lacking the training to do so, local law enforcement will instinctively focus on Latinos -- since most illegal immigrants in the United States are from Mexico and the rest of Latin America.

To many people, this is common sense. Yet, many of these same people also insist -- with a straight face -- that local law enforcement officers are not giving Latinos extra scrutiny and that everyone gets the same treatment. They made that ridiculous claim because the truth was too ugly to confront.

Now, they have no choice. It's gone too far. Too many people know. Confront it, they must.

Racist Romney says he will Veto the Dream Act!

Now, pandering to the far-right Tea Party republican caucus members, he promises that IF he becomes the President, he will VETO the Dream Act! “For those who come here illegally, the idea of giving them in-state tuition credits or other special benefits, I find to be contrary to the idea of a nation of laws,” Romney told supporters at a campaign stop in Le Mars, Iowa.

However he said he'd be "DELIGHTED" and may consider "Permanent Residency" (NOT Citizenship) to these same Latinos if they risk/give up their lives in the military.

My biggest fear is that somehow they will select a candidate that supports their agenda and will somehow fool the American Public into voting for him.

I know and realize that with their 527 groups (who have NO Accountability for their actions) will push negative ads at the American Public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will especially be the case as the election draws nearer. These ads are sure to brainwash countless Americans. Additionally, the Republican Tea Pary governors have made it their mission to pass Jim Crow type laws to SUPPRESS the young, the poor and minorities from voting. While they allow a Gun License as proof of identity to vote, they do not allow a student ID or Medicare card.

2012 will be a World Changing year. IF a Republican is elected and pushes through Republican Laws as they've promoted through the Republican debates, all of us, WE THE PEOPLE, should be very afraid. They will change the world as we know it, and NOT for the better.

RACIST Arizona Judge Says Factual Mexican-American Studies Program Violates State Law

Arizona is the most racist state in the country. All evil state laws start there. Their state is rampant with evil, racist politicians and judges.

Yesterday, a racist Arizona administrative law judge, Lewis Kowal, has sided with the right wing extremist Tucson school chief John Huppenthal saying the district's very factual Mexican American Studies program runs afoul of the state law. The law in question was passed in May of 2010 amid controversy over Arizona's racial profiling bill sb1070. Another racist Arizona bill, hb2281, specifically targetted Latino studies programs taught by the high schools in the Tucson Unified School District. Now, Tuesday's ruling puts the Mexican American Studies program in jeopardy.

Latinos, one thing we must ALL note: the racsist Judge's ruling is MERELY a recommendation. HOWEVER, his recommendation is to the racist superintendent of schools, Arizona's John Huppenthal. Huppenthal was against the program to begin with. Now it's up to the racist Huppenthal to decide whether the programs should continue. If he stops them, NO MORE TRUTH will be taught. No more teachings about Cesar Chavez or Dolores Huerta. No more teachings about the history of Latinos in America. No more teachings about our roots. No more teachings about the hundreds of years of abuses that occurred. This is like denying Slavery existed or that the Holocaust occurrred. Expect all of American History to be whitewashed.

The First Christmas, Baby Jesus -- an "Illegal Immigrant"

In order to be in compliance with the census, Mary and Joseph traveled, as immigrants, to Bethlehem. It was not their home land. As immigrants, there was no place for them to stay. They tried to stay at an inn, but there was no room for them. Mary was pregnant, ready to deliver baby Jesus. The only place they could go that was dry and quiet was a stable. As the prophecies foretold, the promised Savior was born in another country. “But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.” [Matthew 2:6] Jesus - an anchor baby -- born in Bethlehem in order to claim the rights and privileges of being the son of David. Jesus, a Jewish child, dark haired with brown skin.

Shortly after Jesus' birth, King Herod ordered the killing of the innocent, all children under the age of two. So Jesus and his parents become fugitives -- illegal immigrants -- criminals under the law of the land. They flee once again, this time to Egypt. Jesus is now an illegal immigrant with a criminal record. The crime is sedition, being born a King when there was already a king in the land. The intent of overthrowing a kingdom is a felony.

When Herod is dead, Jesus’ parents return to their own country, not to Bethlehem where Jesus is a legal citizen, but to Nazareth, where Jesus grows up as an illegal alien where he takes the job of carpenter away from other Nazarenes. Jesus did all this. These are the same actions those of the extremist right wing call "illeegals."

If Jesus were born today in Arizona, Arpaio and his masked goons would arrest Mother Mary and Joseph and place them in pink underwear in vermin and disease infested tent city. They would be forced to eat green bologna or starve to death. Mother Mary would be placed in shackles and chained to her hospital bed as she gave birth.

Jesus would be an anchor baby because the teaparty has not yet been successful in changing the 14th amendment -- the bill that would stop him from becoming a citizen. Joseph and Mary are sent to a detainment facility to await ICE decision to deport them. Jesus, as an American citizen, would be sent to an orphanage. Or if the story unfolded a bit closer to the Biblical text, Joseph would have a dream to flee back into the desert and cross back into Mexico with Mary and newborn Jesus. The trek across the Arizona desert is as treacherous and dangerous as the trek from Bethlehem to Egypt. They would have faced starvation, dehydration, and possible death only to find a wall blocking their way.

This week, the week Baby Jesus was born, we must remember the message Baby Jesus brought to the world. His message is clearly defined in the Prayer of St. Francis:

Make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Arpaio Admits Guilt by Destroying Records! He's Going Down! Feds have him on the ropes!

HP Reports: PHOENIX -- A judge overseeing a lawsuit of racial profiling in Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's immigration patrols issued punishments against the agency on Friday for its acknowledged destruction of records in the case. The punishments issued by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow came in the form of "adverse inferences" against Arpaio's office that the judge may consider when deciding the case's facts.

The judge, for instance, may assume that among the destroyed documents were citizen complaints - some of which were racially charged and didn't allege actual criminal activity - that requested immigration patrols in spots where the sheriff's office later conducted patrols. Tim Casey, one of Arpaio's lawyers, said he expected the ruling. "I thought that the judge, given the facts, was very fair in his evaluation," he said.

Note from Me to the Judge: All you have to do is look at these pictures of Arpaio and his masked volunteer goons to prove the case against him!

The judge had found grounds in February 2010 to sanction the sheriff's office for throwing away or shredding some records of traffic stops made during Arpaio's immigration patrols, but held off on actually imposing the punishment until Friday.
(Citizen) Latinos who filed the lawsuit have said Arpaio's officers based traffic stops on the race of Hispanics in vehicles, had no probable cause to pull them over and made the stops so they (masked goons) could inquire about their immigration status. Arpaio has denied the racial profiling allegations, saying people pulled over in the patrols were approached because deputies had probable cause to believe they had committed crimes and that it was only afterward that deputies found many of them were undocumented immigrants.

During the patrols Arpaio calls "suppression sweeps," masked volunteer deputies flood an area of a city - in heavily Latino neighborhoods - over several days to seek out traffic violators and arrest other offenders. Undocumented immigrants accounted for only 57 percent of the 1,500 people arrested in the 20 sweeps conducted by his office since January 2008 - while Latinos taken into custody and made to PROVE their Citenship (drivers licenses were NOT allowed) accounted for up to 100% of those arrested!

Under other sanctions issued Friday, Snow said records suggested officers didn't follow a zero-tolerance policy requiring them to stop all traffic offenders and that the documents would have included a higher number of LATINOS arrested than records documenting ordinary patrol activity.

Some sheriff's officials have acknowledged deleting their emails about the patrols and throwing away and shredding officers' records of traffic stops made during the sweeps. The sheriff's office LIED and "said" the destruction (of the documents PROVING racial profiling) was an honest error that sprung from a top official not telling others in his office to preserve the documents.

The office ADMITTED the traffic-stop records (EVIDENCE) were thrown away after supervisors tabulated statistics from them and that thousands of other documents have been handed over. Those records completed during the sweeps contained the number of contacts with the public, criminal arrests and civil citations, and provided a short narrative section where officers can briefly summarize arrests or other incidents.

Some sweeps-related emails that were thought to have been deleted by the sheriff's office turned out to have been saved by the county when it was discovered that the county had backed up emails by the sheriff's office as part of a routine document-preservation step in an unrelated lawsuit. The Department of Justice (DOJ) released the results of a three-year investigation of Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his Masked Goon Squad. They concluded what we've been telling you all along. Arpyao and his deputies are the ones who've been breaking law.

According to the DOJ's investigation, Arpaio and his Goons routinely discriminate against Latinos and retaliate against anyone they view as their enemy. This is in violation of both the Constitution and the Civil Rights Act.

Thomas Perez, assistant Attorney General for the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, says the investigation uncovered rampant widespread racial profiling. "Our experts found that Latino drivers were four to nine times more likely to be stopped than similarly situated non-Latino drivers." Perez added Latinos were often stopped without cause. "This case involved the most egregious racial profiling in the United States that he had ever personally observed in the course of his work."

Federal investigators made two more critical findings regarding the Maricopa County sheriff's office.
1. An illegal pattern of retaliation that comes straight from the top of the department. "People opposed to the department's policies were frequently arrested and jailed for no reason or forced to defend against specious civil complaints or other baseless charges." Those retaliated against include local government officials, attorneys who raised the specter of discrimination by the sheriff and even some reporters in the community.

2. Arpayaso's Detention officers (goons) rampantly and maliciously punish Latino inmates, particulary those with accents, for failing to immediately respond to commands in English. The goons REFUSE to accept grievance complaints written in Spanish and they routinely FORCE Latino inmates to sign English-language forms that could waive their constitutional rights without offering translation help.

In the sheriff's jail, for example, detention officers invoked offensive slurs and profanities against Latinos, calling them "wetbacks," "Mexican bitches," and "stupid Mexicans," the Justice Department letter said. "Sheriff Arpaio's own actions have helped nurture MCSO's culture of bias," said the letter, written to the Maricopa County attorney. For example, the sheriff apparently endorsed one constituent's letter asking for a "round-up" at one Phoenix street corner of "dark-skin(ned)" people: Arpaio told a member of his command staff in a note to "(h)ave someone handle this," the Justice Department said.

Additionally, during today's press conference, the DOJ reported: "We are also reviewing allegations that MCSO has failed to investigate a large number of sex crimes." The sheriff's office has acknowledged to federal authorities that 432 cases of sexual assault and child molestation were not properly investigated over a three-year period ending in 2007, and many of the victims apparently were Latinos, the Justice Department said.

The DOJ said: "In short, MCSO is broken in a number of critical respects. The problems are deeply rooted in (Maricopa County Sheriff's Office) culture, and are compounded by (its) penchant for retaliation against individuals who speak out," The DOJ authorities are also looking at allegations of excessive force and a deliberate failure to provide law enforcement services in Latino communities.

The Republican Controlled Supreme Court took another step into the political fray this morning when it agreed to determine the fate of several key provisions in Arizona's controversial racial profiling bill - SB 1070. The case, Arizona v. United States, tests states' abilities to pass their own racial profiling type immigration measures. Immigration Laws are areas of the law typically reserved for the Federal government. This ensures these type of laws which have significant impact on minorities, are not swayed by corrupt and bias local governments.

Debates over the Extremist Conservative issues (eg: Immigration, Healthcare, Ending Regulation, Ending Social Security/Medicare, Ending Unemployment Benefits, Ending Child Worker Laws/Ending Minimum Wage, Ending Civil Rights Laws, Ending Women's Rights Laws, Ending Unions -- all in all, Republicans WAR Against the Middle Class) have dominated the Republican primary contest and will surely play an outsized role once the Republican nominee squares off against President Obama. The justices' decision to rule this term on the constitutionality of both SB 1070 and the Affordable Care Act will place the Court at the storm center of American politics.

The United States is hoping to preserve its victories over Arizona in the lower courts, which blocked four sections of the law from coming into effect. Two of the blocked sections would make it a crime under state law for an undocumented immigrant to be present in the state, fail to register with the federal government and attempt to obtain work or to hold a job without governmental authorization. Another section requires state and local police officers to check the immigration status of anyone who has been arrested, stopped or detained that the police reasonably suspect to be in the country illegally. The fourth provision at issue allows for the warrantless arrests of individuals that police officers have probable cause (RACIAL PROFILING) to believe have committed deportable offenses.

The 9th Circuit held that each of these provisions improperly invaded the U.S. government's comprehensive immigration regulation authority under federal law. Yet Republican Tea Party Arizona argues that these racial profiling provisions supplement, rather than step on, those federal laws. In its petition to the justices, Republican Tea Party Arizona characterizes SB 1070 as directing "state law-enforcement officers to cooperate and communicate with federal officials regarding the enforcement of federal immigration law." The Court's ruling in this case will likely impact similar immigration laws passed by Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Indiana and Utah.

To the detriment of all fair minded people in America, Justice Elena Kagan selflessly recused herself from the case because of her involvement as Solicitor General when the United States decided to bring suit against Arizona in 2010. Justice Kagan's absence raises the sad possibility of a 4-4 deadlock among the justices, which would uphold the 9th Circuit's decision for the United States (whew). If past is prologue, however, Kagan's recusal may not make a difference.

Last term, Kagan recused herself from another immigration case coming out of Arizona that many viewed as a trial balloon for SB 1070's legality. In a 5-3 decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy gave his crucial vote to the Court's conservative wing. Kennedy wrote a majority opinion that allowed Arizona to revoke the business licenses of employers that knowingly hired undocumented immigrants, and also allowed the state to require businesses to check their employees' immigration status on the federal government's electronic verification system. The three dissenters believed that federal immigration laws pre-empted Arizona's efforts.

For both Arizona v. United States and the review of the Affordable Care Act, the Court will hear oral arguments in March or April, and hand down decisions by the end of June -- just in time to insert itself as a political football for the general election.

The Root reports: ABC News' Jake Tapper talked to GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich about topics including a defense of his charge that child-labor laws are stupid because poor children need to "learn how to go to work." “Look,” Gingrich said, “at a time when you have up to 43% black teenage unemployment, you have entire communities that are devastated, you have neighborhoods where nobody has worked and nobody has any habit of work ... "

“Young children who are poor ought to learn how to go to work,” he continued. “What I’ve said is, for example, it would be great if inner city schools and poor neighborhood schools actually hired the children to do things. Some of the things they could do is work in the library, work in the front office. Some of them frankly, could be janitorial ... "

"[W]hat if they cleaned out the bathrooms and what if they mopped the floors? What if in the summer they repainted the school? What if in that process they were actually learning to work, learning to earn money, they had money on their own, they didn’t have to become a pimp or a prostitute or a drug dealer, they had money on their own?

“Now that’s not a casual comment,” Gingrich said. “It actually grows out of a lot of thinking over many years of trying to figure out who do we break out people trapped in poverty who have no habits of work."

"I am sure for [President Obama] it [whether he has done enough for the black community] has to almost involve cognitive dissonance because how can he look in -- how can he say, ‘This is the community I have done so little for?’ “I think as Americans, forget the president for a moment, Americans if you truly believe you are endowed by our Creator with the right to pursue happiness, one of my major goals, is to apply that to the poorest neighborhoods in America in very very different ways and try to break out of what we have trapped people into for the last forty years.”

Hmmm, so after "a lot of years" of thinking about how to harness the potential of inner-city kids, Gingrich's most innovative and inspired idea involves cleaning bathrooms, and he thinks he understands better than Obama what "our Creator" would like to see for the African-American community?

Also, we're confused -- why are black and poor kids the only ones who need to do manual labor, while their wealthier peers get ahead academically? Sounds like a great recipe for perpetuating inequality instead of changing the structures that cause it. If Gingrich keeps it up with this type of policy brainstorming, he might be just the person to reignite passionate black support for the president's re-election.

House Approves Immigration Bill that Brings Latino Families Together!

SignonSanDiego reports: The House measure to expand the number of family visas for relatives of U.S. residents hoping to make the U.S. home is expected to benefit, among others, Mexicans, who often wait roughly 10 years for permission to live here. Under a measure approved by the House Tuesday, with a 389-15 vote, family-based visa limits rise from 7 percent per country to 15 percent per country, an adjustment that could slightly ease the backlog for naturalized citizens, particularly from Mexico and the Philippines, trying to bring relatives into the United States.

The majority of immigrants in the United States are admitted through family-based visas. Mexicans account for about 30 percent of the U.S. immigrant population – that includes Mexicans of all immigration status – and nearly all Mexicans who are granted U.S. permanent residency, known casually as having a "green card," are admitted into the country on family-based visas.

Almost 60 percent of Mexicans admitted into the United States were immediate relatives sponsored by U.S. citizens, about 35 percent were non-immediate relatives. Immediate relatives of a U.S. citizens include a spouse, unmarried children under 21 years of age, or the parent of someone who is at least 21. Visas for these categories typically are not subject to caps.

So-called family preference immigrant visas are subject to caps, and that can affect the length of time between the day a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident submits a petition for admission to the United States, and the day that person ultimately may get admitted. These visas are subject to caps, and are the ones that would change under the House bill, which next will go to the Senate for a vote.

These visas cover such relatives as sons and daughters, over the age of 21, of U.S. citizens; spouses and minor children of legal U.S. permanent residents; and brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens, among others. The legislation was hailed by people on different sides of the immigration debate as a rare example of bipartisan accord on immigration, an issue that largely has been avoided during the current session of Congress because of the political sensitivities involved.

The measure also would eliminate the current law that says employment-based visas to any one country can't exceed 7 percent of the total number of such visas given out. Instead, permanent residence visas or green cards would be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

“This will significantly shorten the wait for the people in the family queues,” said Tamar Jacoby, president of ImmigrationWorks USA, a national federation of small business owners working for changes in immigration laws.

TeaParty Republican Sen. John Cornyn from Texas led the charge to defeat the Dream Act! This led a "straight A" Latino Dream Student to commit Suicide!

Before you read this story, please get out your handkerchiefs. This is a very sad story about a promising young Latino student whose life was shattered and ended early -- due to the hate-filled attacks led by Tea Party Republicans!

This is a true story about a young Latino Boy. His name was Joaquin Luna, aged 18, a straight A student. When Joaquin was six months old, he and his family, including his parents and five siblings, crossed the Texas/Mexico border without visas and travelled about 40 miles north to Mission, Texas, just on the US side of the border.

As a young student, Joaquin studied very hard. His parents taught him about the American Dream -- if he studied and worked hard enough, he could achieve the American Dream!

As Joaquin grew older, he heard all of the hate-filled rhetoric by the Republican Tea Partiers and he grew more and more concerned about not having a social security number. He became afraid that due to these Hate Mongers, he would never find a job. Joaquin talked about this often with his brothers and sisters, and often cried at night, realizing that even if he gained a good college education, he would never be able to find a decent job or be able to support a family of his own.

Joaquin followed the news and politics very closely. He read newspapers detailing all of the angry talk and hate filled rhetoric by the Republican Tea Party members and by Republican politicians like TX Senator John Cornyn who spewed his Hate Talk to defeat the Dream Act. He also read about the Hate Bills like sb1070 in Arizona and the Georgia and Alabama Hate Bills that passed harsh immigration laws that racially profiled ALL Latinos!

Joaquin's brother Carlos Mendoza said, "Joaquin became very sad. He said the people passing these laws had no heart! How could they leave so many kids without parents and destroy so many lives?"

Last year, when the Dream Act failed to pass the US senate, Joaquin's heart became saddened. Carlos said, "Joaquin got depressed real bad. Every one of us, we all get depressed. Some of us can handle it, some of us can't. Joaquin couldn't."

Last Friday, all of the Hate Filled rhetoric surrounding the Immigration debate became too much for young Joaquin. Early in the morning, Joaquin put on his best Sunday Suit, white shirt and black skinny tie, the same outfit he wore every Sunday without fail to the Pan de Vida church in downtown Mission, Texas. As his brother Carlos put it: "Joaquin dressed himself to go to God."

Then Joaquin went into the bathroom, into the shower, then shot himself.

Joaquin left behind a note that explained why he ended his young, promising life. Joaquin spoke of his desperation at the Hate Filled WALL blocking out his future and preventing him from attaining his Dreams.

United Nations Recognizes Mariachi Music!

Mexico City (CNN) -- The United Nations' cultural organization recognized mariachi music Sunday in a move that Mexican authorities hope will help preserve the well-known tradition.

The songs -- often played on festive occasions by groups of guitar, violin and trumpet performers wearing traditional clothes or wide-brimmed hats -- are sung throughout Mexico, and have become a key part of regional identity, officials said.

"The community and the family hand down musically their knowledge, history and the pleasure of singing to the nature surrounding them. They consider it their own," Mexican officials said in their application to the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), which added mariachi music to the organization's list of intangible cultural patrimony Sunday.

Putting mariachi on the list could increase awareness of the music, UNESCO said in a statement Sunday.

"Learning by ear is the main means of transmission of traditional Mariachi, and the skill is usually passed down from fathers to sons and through performance at festive, religious and civil events," the statement said.

Mexico's application notes that the music "has crossed borders and become a symbol of Mexico."

"Immigrants, descendants of Mexicans living abroad, as well as Latin Americans, have made the modern mariachi a symbol of community identity, because it is a bond linking them to their roots in spite of the distance," the application says.

I've lived a long time and I've never seen the world in the state of turmoil such as it is today. Now is the time that All Americans, ALL People of the World should be very vigilante.

Over the last several decades, the rich and powerful have succeeded in capturing enough political power to control the vast majority of economic capital in our country and in the world. They control 99% of the wealth. They want to continue to control this wealth. However, they can only do so if their programs continue, including tax breaks for the rich, ending health/environment regulations and outsourcing jobs to the lowest bidders. They know and understand that in order to fund their misdeeds, social programs have to be discontinued. Programs like Social Security and Medicare must end in order to pay for their programs.

The Rich/Powerful (e.g. Koch Brothers) have been wise. They already controlled Republican Conservatives. However, they realized, through the Bush years and after Bush, in 2008, allowed the economy to meltdown, the Public started getting wise to their dirty tricks. They had to stage a major coup to get the American Public on their side. They did it with the formation/funding of the Tea Party. With the help of Fox News, Glenn Beck and a few key Republican extremists, they formed/funded several Tea Party organizations and websites. Through grassroots campaigns, they somehow convinced White, Middle Aged, Rural Americans to champion their causes, including extending their tax cuts for the rich and cutting Social Security and Medicare. This was an amazing feat, considering most the of these Tea Partiers are (or know) someone on Social Security, Medicare or unemployment. The Rich/Powerful were able to manipulate their TeaParty members into supporting their causes primarily due to their hatred of our Black President.

However now, the rich and the powerful realize they have gone too far. They are seeing the American People and the People of the World AWAKEN! At long last, it is evident to the World that we are at a crossroads. We can either continue to go along this same path, the path of the past, the path that allows the rich elitists to control the world and stop this wonderful experiment we called America.

America! The land of Immigrants. The land of the Free! The Home of the Brave. Where ALL PEOPLE are created EQUAL and we ALL can Achieve the American Dream, regardless of race, color, creed, ethnicity, gender or sexual preference. A land where there is help for the helpless, hope for the hopeless and we care for our elderly and sick.

People in America and across the world have to make a choice. Will we continue down the road where the Rich and Powerful control the Economies of the World or will WE THE PEOPLE stand up to them and say NO?

The rich and the powerful realize their time of reaping and pillaging is almost over. They believe they have to put a stake in the ground and drawn a line in the sand if their power, their rule, is to continue. They need a Republican in power to carry out their Dirty Tricks. They will do it at ANY Cost!

I, for one, am not happy at the thought of losing My Social Security -- since I have worked over 40+ years -- my ENTIRE life, paying taxes and contributing to Social Security for all of these years.

Frankly, I don't understand how regular Americans -- so called Tea Partiers -- continue to support Rich Big Business and call our President a Socialist. Don't they use our interstate highways? Earlier this month, a subcommittee on Smith's panel subpoenaed the Department of Homeland Security for the information, claiming the DHS was "not acting in good faith." It was the first subpoena issued by Smith's committee since it came under GOP control.

The Tennessean.com Reports: WASHINGTON — Lee and Phyllis Campbell never thought a trip to the Murfreesboro driver's license testing center would take them all the way to Washington. But that's what happened Monday, when the couple testified before a panel of House Democrats on their experience with Tennessee's new voter ID law. A staffer on the House Judiciary Committee invited the Campbells to testify at the forum on new state voter laws after hearing about the ordeal Phyllis Campbell experienced while trying to get a photo ID at the Murfreesboro testing center in September.

"It was daunting," Lee Campbell, a retired guidance counselor at Smyrna High School, said at the end of the forum. Tennessee is one of six REPUBLICAN states that passed laws this year requiring a government-issued photo ID to vote.

Fourteen REPUBLICAN states have now enacted such laws, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

There's no charge for the IDs in Tennessee. But officials at the Murfreesboro testing station told the Campbells an ID for Phyllis would involve too much paperwork and they should pay at least $8 to renew her driver's license, Lee Campbell testified. He said that when he insisted they wanted the free ID, he had to speak to three different testing center employees before one finally got approval to renew Phyllis' driver's license with a photo, free of charge. The visit lasted 58 minutes, he said. The wait didn't bother the Campbells, and they could have afforded the $8 fee. But those factors could deter other people from seeking an ID, Lee Campbell said.

"The point was that the Tennessee legislature had emphasized that the photo was to be FREE," he told lawmakers. "Otherwise, in my opinion, the fees being charged could be considered a POLL tax. (REPUBLICAN DIRTY TRICKS TO STOP THE ELDERLY, THE POOR AND MINORITIES from VOTING in the Next Election!!) The workers should have automatically asked, 'Are you here for the free ID?'"

Some 230,000 Tennesseans hold a non-photo driver's license, including 126,000 seniors who are registered voters. Under Tennessee law, seniors like Phyllis Campbell can opt not to have a photo put on their driver's license after age 60. Another 47,000 Tennesseans are registered to vote but don't have a driver's license.

District Supervisor Amy Lackey confirmed in September that the Murfreesboro testing center encouraged people without a photo on their license to get a new license with a photo rather than getting a separate photo ID for voting, which creates more paperwork. People who want a free photo ID for voting must ask for it specifically, she said. Lawmakers and other witnesses at Monday's forum echoed Lee Campbell's concerns about state voter laws. Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, said Democrats want to get the state laws overturned, but acknowledged that might not be possible before the 2012 elections. In the meantime, he urged witnesses to "make sure that every voter in every jurisdiction can vote."

"We cannot afford to not have them able to vote come November 2012," he said. "This election is crucial to them, their families, and their country." It's also crucial to Democrats. Experts say photo ID laws disproportionately target minorities, low-income people and students — all of whom are more likely to vote Democratic.

They said fees for getting IDs or documents needed to prove citizenship or identity, such as birth or marriage certificates, resemble the POLL taxes that were used mostly in the South to disenfranchise blacks and poor whites. The laws also affect elderly, disabled and rural voters, who may have trouble traveling to get a photo ID or waiting in long lines. Lee Campbell said he's spoken to friends and former colleagues -- the Poor and the Elderly -- who said they might not vote next year because getting to the testing station and waiting in line was too difficult.

This month, Benita Veliz was SAVED from Deportation by President Obama's "Morton Memo" which saves Dreamers and Workers from Deportation. Benita is a 24-year-old college graduate from San Antonio who works in a church office. She is smart, self-sufficient and hard-working. She is bursting with academic and professional ambitions — DREAMS that were set aside because her paths to achieve them were temporarily shut down as she and her Immigration attorneys pleaded her case.

Benita arrived from Mexico with her parents in 1993 on a tourist visa. She was small child of 8 when she arrived and has lived nowhere else since. By any standard, Benita is an American, a Texan. She is also valedictorian of Jefferson High School. She graduated at 16. She went to St. Mary’s University in San Antonio on a full scholarship. She double majored in biology and sociology and fully deployed herself beyond the classroom in clubs, student government and choir. She volunteered in a children’s hospital. And she waited tables 45 hours a week in a Mexican restaurant.

Benita's honors thesis was about the Dream Act. The Dream Act: a Congressional bill that allows students to earn citizenship after going to college or serving in the military. Though the Dream Act was NOT passed due to Nay Votes by ALL REPUBLICANS plus 5 Rogue, Blue Dog Democrats, the President and the "Morton Memo" of June, 2011, saves young students like Benita.

Benita's immigration troubles began in January, 2009. A police officer pulled her over, saying she had rolled through a stop sign. Benita explained, that while she did not roll through the stop sign, she does acknowledges driving without a license. She had a Mexican consular identity card, and after a series of questions, the officer called immigration authorities. She was jailed overnight and released on bond. Her immigration lawyers said Benita met some of the requirements that might have allowed her to stay in the United States. She has been here more than 10 years and is demonstrably of good moral character. But without a qualifying parent, spouse or child to petition on her behalf, initially she was told she could not stay. Many of Benita's supporters petitioned for her support. Benita even took her case to You Tube. In video testimony on YouTube filmed in 2009, Benita said she had "absolutely no family in Mexico" and knows "absolutely no one" in Mexico. She suggested courts take into account how young she was when her parents brought her to the U.S.
Now, thanks to President Obama, Benita was spared deportation earlier this month under deportation guidelines established by the Morton Memo on Prosecutorial Discretion, issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement this past June.

But Benita's troubles are far from over. Benita still can't get a work permit — to apply for one, she'd have to leave the country and face a 10-year ban before she could come back — and the government can at any time pick up the deportation proceedings right where they left off.

Still, Benita was jubilant after her court hearing Wednesday morning. “This is my home, this is the only place I've known. I'm ready to work in the United States. I'm ready to give back to my community.”

HP Reports: WASHINGTON -- House Republicans on the immigration subcommittee voted on Wednesday to authorize a subpoena of the Obama administration over its deportation policies, arguing that immigration enforcers may be hiding their release of dangerous undocumented immigrants. "Are administration officials afraid the information will show that illegal aliens intentionally released by ICE have committed crimes that could have been prevented?" Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said.

"The American people have a right to know what crimes these 300,000 illegal immigrants committed after [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] intentionally chose not to detain them," he continued. House Republicans have been critical of the deportation policy, announced in August, under which the Department of Homeland Security will review its pending deportation cases and close the ones deemed low-priority.

Smith requested information on the deportation policy in August, and told Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano last week that he would take further action this week if he had not received data. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Calif.), chairman of the immigration subcommittee, said they have been "stonewalled" by the Department of Homeland Security in investigating the policy. "The administration is obviously not acting in good faith and is wrongly trying to keep crucial information from the American people," Smith said at the subcommittee meeting. "They are on the verge of obstructing the legitimate role of congress."

The Department of Homeland Security said its policy is based on the agency's limited resources, not a desire to let undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes off the hook. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton has said the agency has funding to deport about 400,000 people per year. Last fiscal year, they nearly hit that figure, removing a record 396,906 undocumented immigrants.

The Department of Homeland Security told Smith in a letter last week that the agency deported about 126,000 undocumented immigrants taken into custody through the Secure Communities enforcement program, out of the 629,000 people referred to them. Some of those matched by the program turn out to be naturalized citizens or legal immigrants, the department has said in defense of the program.

DHS says it is working to gather the information requested by the committee, some of which belongs to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "DHS has implemented common sense immigration enforcement priorities that focus our limited resources on convicted criminals, repeat immigration law violators, fugitives and recent entrants," Chris Ortman, a spokesman for the agency, said in a statement. "DHS is fully cooperating with the committee and is in the process of gathering information responsive to the Committee's inquiry."

Democrats, all of whom voted against the subpoena authorization, said the move would be premature when the Department of Homeland Security has repeatedly said it will cooperate. Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, said the committee only issued subpoenas under the last Congress when officials refused to appear in hearings. He said he understood the chairman's frustration that the August request had not yet been answered, but added that the issue involved multiple agencies and complex privacy issues.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), a member of the committee, said the subpoena effort was an attempt to undermine the Obama administration's deportation policy, which has been praised by supporters of immigration reform. "My angst with this subpoena is this is a way to attack the Obama administration on a policy that my friends on the other side disagree with," she said. "This is not a policy that can be shown to jeopardize the American public or the safety of the American public."

These words are the very foundation of our country. We are a land of Immigrants. We are a country of Equality for ALL. Why don't the Republican Tea Partiers support our forefathers words? Why do they continue to preach inequality and favoritism of the rich and big business? Why do they continue to demonize Latinos with words including "Build an electric fence!" "Shoot them like Pigs!" "Their Animals! Vagrants!"

Towards the Poor and the Elderly, the Tea Partiers say: "Go find a Job!" "End Social Security!" "End Medicare!" "End Regulations!" All of the words of their Rich, Big Business, Wall Street Backers. Why are these Teapartiers, many of them poor people on Social Security and Medicare, WHY on earth are they mouthing the words of their Rich Masters?

Our society has evolved. We live in a society in which money is increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few people, and the concentration of income and wealth has created tremendous power in the hands of a few. These "FEW" (aka Koch Brothers, Wall Street Bankers and Hedge Fund Managers) are bankrolling Tea Partiers. These RICH Power Brokers are able to make the Tea Partiers their puppets and mimic their agenda. The Tea Partiers are accepting their contributions because these dollars are fueling the Tea Partiers HATE.

The majority of Tea Partiers HATE!:
. Our President, primarily because he is Black. They will do ANYTHING to rid themselves of our President.
. They HATE Latinos and most people South of the Border. They've create State Laws which Target Latinos. Yet they say they are NOT racist.

Here's one example: One of my commenters refuses to acknowledge he is racist, yet he said about his state (Alabama) law: "if you choose to violate our borders, then you need the big, bad hammer of the Alabama authorities to come down on your little brown head." Then he became upset because I said he was racist. He responded with, "Racist? Dee, just because I use southern colloquialisms to reference illegals does not constitute racism." and "Then, as my fellow southerners so colorfully speak, those illegal bean-eaters wont have any choice but to return to their home country's and seek legally to return to the U.S."

What is amazing is that this racist doesn't acknowledge his own racism.

What is sad is that most of the Tea Partiers are NOT rich. They collect Social Securiy. They collect Medicare. They collect unemployment when not employed. They use the Interstate Highways. They go to the Emergency room when get into an accident or are sick. Their children and grandchildren utilize the Educational system. They use the Post Office. They call the Police or Firefighters when they get in trouble. Their Meat/Poultry is inspected so they don't suffer from disease. Their lands are protected from illegal dumping of toxic waste.

YET the Tea Partiers SAY they are against our Government. They are against Regulation. They are against ending Tax Cuts for the Rich. They MOUTH all of the words of their Big Business Puppet Masters!

Tea Party Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) made very RACIST Comments against Latinos calling them ANIMALS and VAGRANTS!! The South Carolina congressman participated in a Q&A event with Furman University students on Monday evening. The appearance generated national attention after he made an unusual tie between United States immigration issues and a house without doors.

Duncan said, "It's kind of like having a house -- and you're not homeowners, a lot of folks in this room, but your moms and dads are -- taking the door off the hinges and allowing any kind of vagrant, or animal, or just somebody that's hungry, or somebody that wants to do your dishes for you, to come in. And you can't say, 'No you can't come in.' And you can’t say, 'No you can’t stay all night.' Or 'No you can't have this benefit, using my deodorant.'"

Should Latinos Support President Obama in the 2012 Election without passage of CIR and the Dream Act? I say "Seguro Que Si"

As my long time readers know, I am a long time advocate of the passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR). I have supported CIR since 2006, prior to the introduction of the CIR Act of 2007, popularly known as the "McCain - Kennedy" Bill. The CIR Act of 2007 was a good bill. It was bi-partisan. However, it did not pass. The rabid ANTI groups, most Republicans, now turned Tea Partiers, rallied against it. They used derogatory language and misleading statements to derail this noble cause.

The Bill was beautiful and prolific in its simplicity. Here are the highlights:
1. Enforce our Borders with trained Border Patrol and technology
2. Employer Sanctions, especially for Exploitive Employers
3. Provide a pathway to citizenship for those here that are felony free.
4. Establish the Dream Act, allowing students to pay in-state tuition or serve in the Military.

While the Bush Administration said they supported the CIR bill, they also catered to the ANTI crowd by conducting massive ICE Raids all across the country, incarcerating whole families, including women and children. They conducted these raids in Poultry and Meatpacking plants, Construction, and manufacturing plants. Then, in 2008, as if to up the ante, they conducted MASSIVE raids in Postville Iowa and Laurel, MS. In Postville, they arrested nearly 600 workers, putting them in cattle barns - treating them like animals - as they shipped them off to unknown detention centers in Texas. They did the same in Laurel, MS, this time nearly 700 workers were shipped - most to the LaSalle Detention Center in Jena, LA. which is part of the GEO Group, one of the largest private prison owners and huge contributors to the RNC and to the Bush Administration.

These actions were over the top, blatant, and so flagrant in Republican's intent to fill the pockets of their political cronies - just in case McCain lost the 2008 Presidential election.

These actions were also obvious to many Human Rights and Latino groups who raised a rallying cry, "STOP THE ABUSE!" This rallying cry motivated Latinos to go to the polls in massive numbers, at the highest rate in history, to vote for Hope and Change - to Vote for Barack Obama in the 2008 elections.

President Obama has kept many promises.
1. Stop Worker ICE Raids: He has stopped the worker ICE Raids. He said "no mas" to the despicable, inhumane raids in Postville, IA and in Lauren, MS.
2. Focus and only deport Felonious Criminals: The INTENT of the "Secure Communities Act" was for ICE to focus on felonious criminals for deportation. These felonious criminals have been deported in massive numbers. No more "very long stays" to feed the pockets of the cronies. Instead these felonious criminals were deported. This caused the numbers of deportees to increase. Additionally, over zealous local police and ICE officers took it upon themselves to detain and deport Mothers and Students. They should not have been included in the deportations. Some in the media and local Humanitarians have been very vocal about these detainees. This resulted in:
3. President Obama, via his Presidential authority, to exclude non-felonious criminals and Dream Students from deportation. This just happened this summer.

President Obama has said he supports CIR and he supports the Dream Act. He also supports Jobs for All of us and an improved economy. However, we can all see the Republican opposition he is facing. All we have to do is Look and Listen to what is happening. Or as my mother would say "Mira Nomas!"

1. 2012 Republican GOP Debates: All we have to do is listen to what is being said in the 2012 Republican Presidential Debates. Hermain Cain wants to ELECTROCUTE US! They ALL have begged for Arpayaso's support! Other Republicanos want to shoot us like Pigs! "Mira Nomas!"

2. Republican Racial Profiling Bills and Latino HATE Crimes: All we have to do is see what the Republicans are advocating with their Latino Racial Profiling and Hate Laws in state after state after state. "Mira Nomas!"

3. Republican Arpayaso - Racial Profiling / Hates the President: Look at Arapio in Arizona - the new Bull Connor. Look how he has abused his power and abused Latinos. President Obama Tours the Country Promoting Jobs Bill; Visits with Hollywood and Latino Supporters

President Obama is travelling around the country, from East Coast, to the Heartland, to the West Coast. He has kicked off a new effort to urge Congress to pass the American Jobs Act, piece by piece, to put WE THE PEOPLE back to work and strengthen the Economy. The President declared “we can’t wait" for Republicans to pass a bill -- that is why he is taking his message to the People. On Twitter and Facebook, people around the country have been talking about why we can't wait and the issues they care about the most. From Education to Firemen, Policemen to Construction - jobs in every city and every town in America. The President is talking about real American Jobs. He is also talking about affordable financing programs for Mortgages and for Education.

With the Republicans doing all they can to roadblock his efforts, he is taking his message to all of us, the American People. Massive crowds of Americans are welcoming him into their cities, into their homes. The President's approval rating continues to rise.

Last week, the President was welcomed in Nevada and spoke to many small business owners, teachers and local workers. After his Nevada visit, President Obama visited Hollywood.Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith attended one of the L.A. events, as did Los Angeles Lakers basketball legend Magic Johnson.

President Obama also visited the home of Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith who hosted a Latino/Hollywood Stars event for President Obama. Eva Longoria introduced the President by saying he "speaks to the Latino community because he knows he's the President of all Americans. And we applaud you from our community. We thank you for everything you're doing." Also present were Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, activist Dolores Huerta and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.).

I agree with Eva Longoria. The President is NOT like the Republicans who continue to advocate Racial Profiling laws in every state and Mass Deportation. Instead, he supports jobs for ALL Americans and he supports the Dream Act. He has stopped the deportation of students and non-felonious workers, instead he is targetting Felonious Criminals for deportation. We know he needs to do more to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform. That is why it is so important that we register to vote and elect him and as many Democratic Congressmen as possible so CIR may be passed in 2013.

The President also spoke on the Tonight Show with host Jay Leno. The audience cheered and loudly applauded as he brought his JOBS message out to WE THE PEOPLE!

Jim Crow Lives On in Alabama: Hate Crimes Against Latinos Running Rampant Due to Alabama's Racist Immigration Law

It was a neighborhood basketball game. A team of Latino boys were playing basketball against a group of non-minority neighborhoods boys. The reaction was immediate and rooted in the state's new law on illegal immigration. One mother, witness to the incident said, "They told them, `You shouldn't be winning. You should go back to Mexico." Latino children are facing more bullying and taunts at school since Alabama's tough crackdown on illegal immigration took effect last month. Many blame the name-calling on fallout from the law, which has been widely covered in the news, discussed in some classrooms and debated around dinner tables.

The Department of Justice is monitoring bullying incidents linked to Alabama's law.
"We're hearing a number of reports about increases in bullying that we're studying," the head of the agency's civil rights division, Thomas Perez, said during a stop in Birmingham. The Justice Department has established a bilingual telephone hotline and special email account for residents to report any violence or threats based on racial or ethnic background that are linked to the law. Federal officials say some parents -- particularly Latinos -- may not report bullying to teachers and principals because they fear coming into contact with government officials.

Supporters of the law claim it is vital to reducing the cost of state and local government by getting illegal immigrants off public assistance, though they have no facts to prove their allegations. They also argue the measure will create jobs for legal residents by opening up positions that had been held by people living in the country illegally. However, Americans have shown little to no interest in the backbreaking, low-paying jobs at farms and poultry factories that are held by many of the Latinos they are targeting with the law.

Those that oppose this racial profiling law say the law is creating a climate of fear and mistrust in the state that's unsettling for all Latinos -- citizens and immigrants. Immigrants tell of dirty looks in grocery stores, and online forums are full of angry, anonymous comments from both supporters and opponents of the law.

Machine shop manager Hector Conde said his family has seen the problem firsthand. He Latino and his family are citizens. Conde, whose family lives in Autauga County north of Montgomery, was appalled when his 12-year-old daughter, Monica Torres, told him a schoolmate called her a "damn Mexican" during a school bus ride. "She is a citizen. She doesn't even speak Spanish," said Conde, a U.S. citizen originally from Puerto Rico. "The culture being created (by the law) is that this sort of thing is OK."

A Hispanic woman said her 13-year-old niece was called a "stupid Mexican" and told to "go back to Mexico" by a classmate in Walker County. "She said, `If you're not going I'm going to punch you."'

Courts have struck down sections of the law, including a provision that required public schools to verify the citizenship status of students. Other sections remain in effect, including a part that lets police check a person's immigration status during a traffic stop. Courts also can't enforce contracts involving illegal immigrants, such as leases, and it's still a felony for an illegal immigrant to do business with the state for basic things like getting a driver's license.

U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance, the lead federal prosecutor for north Alabama, said many Hispanic parents may be afraid to report bullying for fear of coming in contact with government officials. Under the law, authorities are supposed to detain suspected illegal immigrants found living in the state and hold them for federal immigration authorities. Parents may be afraid to even go to school teachers and principals, she said. "It seems likely to me that people are trying to keep their heads down and stay out of trouble," said Vance.

Charles Warren is school superintendent DeKalb County, where about 18 percent of the 8,900 students enrolled in public schools are Hispanic. He doesn't see much tension between Hispanic students and others -- Crossville High School has had a Hispanic homecoming queen the last two years, he said. "The kids get along great, it's the adults who are the problem," Warren said. "There are a lot of similarities to what went on back in the `50s and `60s with the civil rights movement. A lot of people are out of work now and they want to blame someone. I think the Hispanic people are catching a lot of that."

PROOF: Alabama Immigration Law is RACIST Against Latino Legal Citizens!

When Alabama's sweeping new immigration law went into effect last month, Birmingham business owner Steve Dubrinsky realized he had a serious problem. Dubrinsky runs Max's Delicatessen, a classic Jewish deli, in the city's Inverness neighborhood. In the kitchen he employs several Latino workers, all of whom, he says, provided the necessary documentation when he hired them, and none of whom have given him reason to believe they're in Alabama illegally.

And yet several of them have told Dubrinsky to start looking for replacements. Even though his employees say they're here legally, they've told him they either have undocumented relatives who they must leave with, or they simply no longer feel comfortable as Latinos in Alabama. The new law authorizes police to demand documentation if they have "reasonable suspicion" someone is in the country illegally.

Dubrinksy was so concerned about his burgeoning staff problem that he spoke to the Birmingham News about it last week. "They are scared and I can't blame them," he told the paper, speaking about his documented employees. "It is affecting a lot of restaurants. It's a mess." Suddenly, Dubrinsky had much greater problems.

The morning the article ran, Dubrinsky hopped in his car and turned on local talk radio, only to discover that the discussion topic was Dubrinsky himself. The host and his guests were trying to decide whether or not they should boycott the deli. Dubrinsky grabbed his paper and read the Birmingham News article just to make sure he hadn't been misquoted, perhaps voicing support for undocumented immigrants. Indeed, he was quoted accurately, showing sympathy for the area's properly documented workers.

It hardly mattered. Dubrinsky was being tarred as an illegal-immigrant lover. "People twisted what the story said," Dubrinsky told HuffPost. "I was under attack." The article had been shared on an anti-immigrant website, and Dubrinsky was soon bombarded with vitriolic hate email. One reads: "well u can bet your ass that i will never eat in your resturant agian and will tell everybody i know what kind of person you are for suporting those dam wetback that are ruining our country."
Another: "if you cant keep the doors open and employ legal people then it is time to close."
And another: "I hope your unamerican establishment closes down!!!!"

The assault on Dubrinsky and his restaurant shows just how risky it can be for a business owner to publicly stake out even a moderate position in Alabama's immigration debate. Dubrinsky's wife happens to be a U.S. citizen from Mexico, and he says he never imagined he could be attacked for supporting the Latinos who, like her, have every right to be in the country. The nastiness of the past week has left him shocked and saddened.
"This hatred being spewed anonymously," he says, "it's very scary."

Just as bad as the hate mail was the hit to his restaurant's reputation online. After the article ran, Google was quickly flooded with negative reviews of Max's Deli from people, many who had probably never eaten there. By Dubrinsky's count, it was more than 70 reviews in two days, and they all remain on the web today. His loyal customers tried to chime in with positive words, but they were drowned out in a chorus of hate from first-time reviewers, dropping his rating to 1.5 stars out of 5. One recent review reads, "You could not pay me to patronize this place!" "Not one American worker in the place. Move your Deli to Mexico," read another by a reviewer who was only identified as Cherie. "Food is marginal at best. Employs only Illegal immigrants. Owner and entire staff are rude. Don't go here!!!" reads a third review, which, like many of the recent reviews, came from first-time reviewers.

(The vicious reviews stood in stark contract to the reputation of Max's Deli at Urbanspoon.com, the popular foodie site, where registered users have given the restaurant an enviable 81 percent rating out of 49 reviews.)

Not all of the hatred has poured in from out-of-state. Last Wednesday, many businesses were closed as Latinos skipped work to protest the new law, which is the harshest of its kind in the country. Dubrinsky convinced his workers to come in for the day, though he decided to shut down early -- at 5 p.m., as opposed to the typical 8:30 p.m. -- in a show of solidarity with his staff. He hung a sign on his door explaining his compromise.
He was pilloried for the early closing, too, receiving more hate emails -- emails that, sadly, could have come only from his fellow residents who noticed the sign.

Dubrinsky has remained remarkably diplomatic through it all. After receiving a nasty email from a woman he didn't know, Dubrinsky wrote an email back to her, sending her a link to the story and explaining his side of things. They had a little back-and-forth, and the woman ended up apologizing and asking him for forgiveness. When he received a nasty phone call from a stranger in Michigan, Dubrinsky tried to explain himself rather than simply hang up. But the woman couldn't be reasoned with.

Regardless of what happens to his reputation, Dubrinsky says he's worried about losing longtime staffers who he describes as good workers as well as good people. "They're like family to me," he says. Despite a national unemployment rate above 9 percent, he says that finding non-Latino workers willing to toil in his hot kitchen for modest pay has not been easy, just as many farmers are having a hard time finding non-Latino workers willing to pick their fields.

"It's easier said than done," says Dubrinsky. To prepare for his vacancies, Dubrinsky offered a job to a woman at $8.25 per hour a couple of weeks ago. After initially accepting, she called back to say she couldn't take it because she'd lose her food stamps and government-funded health care. More recently, Dubrinsky hired a man to work the grill in the kitchen. He showed up on Sunday but didn't last long. Dubrinsky says the man disappeared after just two hours, leaving only an apron in his place.

Republican Debate PROVES Obama the Right Choice in 2012!

I've recently read reports about the increased number of deportations by the Obama Administration vs the number of deportations during the Bush Administration. Some in the Latino Blogger Community are upset by this. I'm not. Here's why. The Obama Administration has been focusing on deportation of felonious criminals. I support this. They have put in place measures to stop the deportation of Students and non-felonious criminals. I support this.
The Bush Administration was not so focused on the number of Deportations. What they were focused on was massive ICE Raids and arrest/detention of Latino workers. The largest ICE raids in US History happened during the Bush Administration. The highest rate was in Laurel, MS. The 2nd highest in Postville, IA. The next in meat packing plants, including Swift and Pilgrim, all across the US. Their focus was on ARRESTS, RAIDS, keeping those arrested in Detention Centers owned by their private prison owner Political Contributers. They arrested Moms and Dads and Kids and put them in deplorable, privately owned prisons.
During the Obama adminstration, we have seen NO massive ICE raids, no massive detentions. Instead, the focus has been on Felonious Criminals, then deporting them as quickly as possible.
I support our President.

Herman Cain in League with Arpaio (the Devil!)

PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he'll meet Monday with Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain before the candidate attends a GOP fundraiser in Phoenix.

Arpaio says Cain will be the fourth GOP presidential candidate who sought his endorsement this year.

The sheriff hasn't yet endorsed any candidate, but backed Mitt Romney in 2008.

Arpaio met with candidate Michele Bachmann last month and says he spoke on the phone recently with Romney and Rick Perry.

Arpaio says he has talked to them on subjects ranging from military service and family to the sheriff's jail tents and immigration enforcement.

He says none of the candidates has raised the federal civil rights investigation of Arpaio's immigration efforts and a federal grand jury that's investigating allegations that the sheriff's office abused its powers.

Herman Cain is OFF OF HIS ROCKER! He plans to put a Barbed Wire, Electrified Fence along the Border Warning "It will Kill You!" to all Mexicans/Latinos. So says the Ron Paul website.
"It’s going to be 20 feet high. It’s going to have barbed wire on the top. It’s going to be electrified. And there’s going to be a sign on the other side saying, ‘It will kill you!"

Reports indicate Cain, the leading Tea Party Republican Presidential Candidate in 2012, and his campaign is heavily influenced and funded by the Koch Brothers. Cain's economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.

Cain's campaign manager and a number of aides have worked for Americans for Prosperity, or AFP, the advocacy group founded with support from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending. Cain credits a businessman who served on an AFP advisory board with helping devise his "9-9-9" plan to rewrite the nation's tax code. And his years of speaking at AFP events have given the businessman and radio host a network of loyal grassroots fans. The once little-known businessman's political activities are getting fresh scrutiny these days since he soared to the top of some national polls.

His links to the Koch brothers could undercut his outsider, non-political image among people who detest politics as usual and candidates connected with the party machine.

AFP tapped Cain as the public face of its "Prosperity Expansion Project," and he traveled the country in 2005 and 2006 speaking to activists who were starting state-based AFP chapters from Wisconsin to Virginia. Through his AFP work he met Mark Block, a longtime Wisconsin Republican operative hired to lead that state's AFP chapter in 2005 as he rebounded from an earlier campaign scandal that derailed his career.

Block and Cain sometimes traveled together as they built up AFP: Cain was the charismatic speaker preaching the ills of big government; Block was the operative helping with nuts and bolts.

When President Barack Obama's election helped spawn the tea party, Cain was positioned to take advantage. He became a draw at growing AFP-backed rallies, impressing activists with a mix of humor and hard-hitting rhetoric against Obama's stimulus, health care and budget policies.

Block is now Cain's campaign manager. Other aides who had done AFP work were also brought on board.

Cain's spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael, who recently left the campaign, was an AFP coordinator in Louisiana. His campaign's outside law firm is representing AFP in a case challenging Wisconsin campaign finance regulations. 1. 9 % Income Tax: He would eliminate Income Tax and replace it with this Tax. He also would eliminate the earned income tax credit for the poor. The right is always talking about the 47% who don't pay taxes. These are the elderly, the sick, those making below the poverty level (who eat catfood). Now, he plans to eliminate their tax credits and force them to pay 9% of their meager pennies income. Meanwhile, the rich who pay 15 - 35% taxes will have their income taxes drastically reduced. This means, as a nation, we will collect Trillions LESS overall Federal Taxes and go further in debt.
2. 9% ADDED Federal Sales Tax: On top of the Income taxes he is raising on the Poor, he will enforce an ADDED 9% sales Tax. In Texas, we have an 8% Sales Tax. With Herman's 999 plan, he will add a 9% Federal Tax = 17% Tax on EVERY purchase!
3. 9% Business Transactions Tax: Drastically cutting them for Business Employers, NOT for the Workers!
Washington Post reports: The Facts
The “9-9-9” label is actually a bit of misnomer. Cain would toss out much of the current federal tax code and replace it, eventually and only temporarily, with three taxes — a 9 percent income tax, a 9 percent business transactions tax and a 9 percent federal sales tax. On paper, the first two look like cuts, because payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare (now nearly 15 percent, including corporate contributions) would be repealed. The sales tax would be new, on top of existing state sales taxes.

But note that we said the “9-9-9” would happen eventually — and then only temporarily. That’s because it is only the second step of a planned three-step process. The first step would cut individual and corporate tax rates to a top 25 percent rate (down from a current high of 35 percent). Then the final step would replace all of the taxes — even the 9s — with a national sales tax, known by proponents as a “Fair Tax.”

(As denizens of Washington, we find this three-step process to be highly dubious. It takes years, even decades, to fundamentally overhaul the tax code. Herman Cain is going to do this three times in his presidency? But we digress.)

Much attention has focused on whether Cain’s plan, in its 9-9-9 stage, would raise as much revenue as the current tax system. Bloomberg News had calculated it would collect about $2 trillion, thus falling short by about $200 billion a year. But Lowrie sent Bloomberg an analysis on Wednesday that asserted “9-9-9” would actually collect slightly more — $2.3 trillion.

We think the revenue question is beside the point. Anyone can turn the dials in their computer models to generate the assumptions they want.

Michael Linden of the left-leaning Center for American Progress, for instance, estimates the plan would generate just $1.3 trillion. The biggest difference between the two estimates is that Linden thinks the 9 percent business tax would yield $112 billion a year, and Cain says he would get $862 billion — a gap that simply demonstrates how a few different assumptions can generate extremely different results. (Linden on Thursday updated his analysis, saying he had underestimated how much revenue the business tax would raise.)

Cain’s proposal is so radical that it makes more sense to examine the potential impact on taxpayers. A key part of Cain’s pitch for the plan during the debate was this: “When you expand the base, we can arrive at the lowest possible rate, which is 9-9-9.”

“Expand the base” really means that more taxpayers will pay taxes under his plan.
Right now, nearly half of taxpayers don’t pay income taxes, but they do pay their share of payroll taxes, which amounts to 7.65 percent of wage income (though much of it is capped at $107,000). Cain would also eliminate the earned-income tax credit, which is intended to lift working Americans out of poverty. Many of these workers currently receive tax refunds.

On top of that, Cain would introduce the new sales tax, which would affect lower and moderate-income people who spend most of their income on purchases, not savings and investments. Depending on how you do the math, people now paying zero or negative taxes might be faced with a 27 percent tax on income.

In other words, while on paper Cain is promising a tax cut, in reality tens of millions of lower-income Americans would face tax increases. People in high tax brackets — 28 percent and higher — would likely see big tax cuts. (As part of his plan, Cain would also eliminate estate taxes and capital gains taxes, which, again, mostly affect higher-income people with stock and real estate investments.)

There have been several interesting analyses done on the “9-9-9” plan. Edward D. Kleinbard of the University of Southern California School of Law identifies several unusual quirks, including a “disguised one-time 9 percent tax on existing wealth — no doubt much to the surprise of Mr. Cain and his followers.” Kleinbard, former chief of staff of the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, says that “contrary to casual impressions, the Plan could be expected to raise substantial amounts of revenue, but does so largely by skewing downwards the distribution of tax burdens when compared to current law.”

Bruce Bartlett, a former Reagan administration official who now calls himself an independent, also offered a critical examination this week on the New York Times Economix blog. He (as did Kleinbard) noted that the business tax allows for no deduction for wages, which he said “is likely to raise the cost of employing workers, even with abolition of the employers’ share of the payroll tax.”

Cain, in his television appearances, glosses over such details. “The fact that we are taking out embedded taxes that are built into all of the goods and services in this country, prices will not go up,” he asserted on MSNBC. “They will not go up.” He then gave an example of a family of four earning $50,000.

“Today, under the current system, they will pay over $10,000 in taxes assuming standard deductions and standard exemptions. I've gone through the math, $10,000. Now, with 9-9-9, they're going to pay that 9 percent personal — that 9 percent tax on their income. So that's only $4,500. They still have $5,500 left over to apply to this sales tax piece. …They are still going to have money left over.”
We’re not sure how Cain calculates that this family now pays $10,000 in taxes, but the reliable Tax Foundation calculator comes up with a much more reasonable figure: a total tax bill of $3,515 — $690 in federal income taxes and $2,825 in payroll taxes. (The family gets a big income-tax savings from the child tax credit, which Cain would eliminate.)

So, in other words, under Cain’s plan, this family would instantly pay $1,000 more in income taxes. They would also pay additional sales taxes, probably more than $3,000, on their purchases. It’s unclear how the business tax would affect the family’s tax bill but it appears this theoretical family would get no tax cut but instead a 100 percent tax increase.

(The picture changes somewhat if you assume that all the employer-paid payroll taxes automatically would revert to the employee. We’re not sure that’s a good bet given the design of Cain’s business tax, but pro-Cain advocates make that assumption with their own tax calculator. But even under this scenario, the family appears stuck with at least a $2,000 tax increase.)

We take no position on whether it is good or bad to make the tax code less progressive. Perhaps in response to questions, Cain appears to still be tinkering with the plan. In Concord, N.H., he said on Wednesday that, among other changes, he would preserve the deduction for charitable donations and would exempt any used goods, including previously owned homes and cars, from the new 9 percent sales tax. Foxnews reports:Tennessee Republican state Rep. Curry Todd, who once compared undocumented immigrants to "rats" was arrested in Nashville, Tenn., Tuesday night and charged with drunken driving and possession of a handgun under the influence.

At around 11:15 Tuesday night, Rep. Todd was stopped in his GMC Envoy in Nashville. The AP reports that he allegedly failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer. A loaded Smith & Wesson 38 Special was also allegedly found in his vehicle. The AP adds that Todd is also a lead sponsor of a bill that would allow handgun carry permit holders to bring guns into bars.

Todd asked a panel of prenatal health care officials in November 2010 whether patients need to show proof of citizenship to be accepted for treatment. One woman replied that that was not allowed under federal guidelines, since children born on United States soil automatically become citizens under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, regardless of their parents' immigration status.

"They can go out there like rats and multiply, then," he responded (see video above). He later said that he was "wrong" to use that language and said he should have used the term "anchor babies" instead.

Todd was booked into a Davidson County jail after the arrest.

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- At least a half-dozen poultry plants shut down or scaled back operations Wednesday and many other businesses closed as Hispanics in Alabama skipped work to protest the state's toughest-in-the-nation immigration law.

The work stoppage was aimed at demonstrating the economic contribution of Alabama's Hispanic immigrants. It was unclear exactly how widespread the protests were, but a poultry company spokesman said officials were reporting unusually high absences at plants in northeast Alabama, where much of the state's chicken industry is based.

In the northeast Alabama town of Albertville, numerous Hispanic-owned businesses along Main Street had the lights off and signs that said they wouldn't be open. Mexican restaurants, a bank that caters to Hispanics, small grocery stores and supermarkets were all shuttered. Jose Contreras owns a restaurant and store on Main Street. He said he was losing about $2,500 in revenue by shutting down. "We closed because we need to open the eyes of the people who are operating this state," said Contreras, originally from the Dominican Republic and a U.S. citizen. "It's an example of if the law pushes too much, what will happen."

Republican supporters say Alabama's (Racist) strict new immigration law was intended to force undocumented (Latino) workers out of jobs and help legal residents find work in a state suffering from high unemployment. The law allows police to detain people indefinitely if they are suspected of being in the country illegally and requires schools to check the status of new students when they enroll.

Since a federal judge upheld much of the law two weeks ago, many frightened Hispanics have hid in their homes or fled Alabama. Schools have reported high absentee rates among Hispanic students, and officials said even more students were absent Wednesday, apparently because of the protest.

At Crossville Elementary School in DeKalb County, Principal Ed Burke said about 160 of the school's 600 students weren't in class. "We normally would have about 20 or 30out," he said.

The Obama administration is among the critics of the new law and asked a federal appeals court Wednesday to at least temporarily block enforcement, arguing in court documents the statute oversteps the state's authority. It's not clear when the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals will rule on the administration's request for a preliminary injunction.

Not far from Contreras' businesses, the parking lot was virtually empty at a Wayne Farms poultry plant that employs about 850 people. Company spokesman Frank Singleton said other plants were also reporting unusually high absences. "We know it's related to the immigration law. I don't think it's going to be just today," he said.

The protests were being promoted partly through Facebook and other social media, as well as a Spanish-language radio station in Birmingham. Supporters say they want to show the economic impact of Hispanic people in Alabama and demonstrate solidarity in opposition to the law. There are an estimated 185,000 Hispanics in Alabama. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 70 percent of the state's Hispanic residents are of Mexican descent.

I support the Wall Street Protesters. They are the only group in America attempting to hold Wall Street accountable for their wrongdoings. How many of us remember the stock market crash of 2008? On September 16, 2008, failures of massive financial institutions in the United States, due primarily to their promotion of securities of packaged subprime loans and credit default swaps issued to insure these loans and their issuers, rapidly devolved into a global crisis resulting in a number of bank failures and sharp reductions in the value of stocks worldwide.

How many of us were targetted by unscrupulous Mortgage Brokers with "Too Good to Be True" offers to refinance your home or offers to purchase a new one? Little to no money down! These predators targetted those who could least afford these unscrupulous, predatory loans; their bosses looking to package these loans into falsely high rated junk bonds and stocks.

They were able to accomplish these shenanigans because of the deregulations in their industry promoted by the billions spent on lobbyists and the Political Action Committees (PACs) on both sides of the political fence.

Their shenanigans wrecked the Economy and lost the lifelong savings of numerous citizens/retirees, yet our government bailed them out and held none of them accountable. Now, as they continue their wayward ways, as businesses continue to outsource jobs offshore, as businesses purchases more and more political power, backing Tea Parties and local politicians, we see them continuing their tactics and pushing their agendas. These same groups have reached the height of audacity as they attempt to blame the Middle Class, the Poor, the Elderly and the Sick. They aim to destroy Social Security and Medicare, end Universal Healthcare for all Americans, and massively de-regulate the very laws and oversight which keep us safe.

Now one group is finally standing up and saying "Enough is Enough!" These proud Patriots are standing up and saying "Wall Street - stop your shenanigans!" "Be held Accountable!"

Some naysayers from the extreme right try to ridicule the protesters. They try to call them hippie protesters from the sixties. They think this is an insult. The reality is, the protesters from the sixties were right. I was there in the 60s. I appreciate all that was accomplished in the Civil Rights Movement. We worked hard to ensure the Founding Fathers' Mission of Equality for All regardless of Race, Gender, Sexual Persuasion. For decades the Extreme Right Wing (like Peter King) have advocated the End of the Legislation that was established in the 60's. The extremists NEVER wanted the end to the Jim Crow Laws. They never wanted Equality for all, Civil Rights nor did they want Affirmative Action. Nor did they want the end to the wrongful war in Vietnam. We were the Peace, Equality and Love Generation. We are being revitalized today as we see the wrongs on Wall Street - going unpunished and the extremists pushing their agenda to END Social Security and Medicare for our elderly.

California Passes Dream Act!

California passed a new law, AB 131 - known as the California Dream Act and will become effective January 1, 2013. "Going to college is a dream that promises intellectual excitement and creative thinking," Brown said in a statement from Sacramento. "The Dream Act benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us."

Currently, Dream students in California must pay resident tuition rates if they graduated from a state high school and are actively seeking to legalize their immigration status, officials said. The other half of the California Dream Act was signed into law by Brown in July and allows undocumented immigrant students to receive privately funded scholarships administered at public universities and community colleges.

That law, called AB 130, was needed because the University of California and California State University systems avoided giving the private scholarships to their undocumented students, citing vagueness in laws, said the legislative aide to California Dream Act's author, state Assemblyman Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles).

Cedillo called Saturday's signing "historic" and path-breaking for the United States -- coming at a time when many states such as Alabama and Arizona are passing aggressive laws targeting undocumented immigrants. Some of those laws are being challenged in court.

"The signing of now both parts of the California Dream Act will send a message across the country that California is prepared to lead the country with a positive and productive vision for how we approach challenging issues related to immigration," Cedillo said in a statement.

"Today, Ana and Maria Gomez, Jaime Kim, David Cho, Pedro Ramirez -- and thousands of other students who are some of the best and brightest in California -- have been told by our governor and legislative leaders that you are welcome here, that you have something to contribute, that you can be proud of what you have accomplished and that your talents and ambition will not go to waste," Cedillo said.

Under AB 131, qualifying Dream students will be eligible for state Board of Governors fee waivers, student aid programs administered by a college or university, and the state aid Cal Grants program for state universities, community colleges, and qualifying independent and career colleges or technical schools in California, according to Cedillo.

The California Dream Act differs from a proposed federal bill called the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors -- or DREAM -- Act, which would create a path to citizenship for immigrants who entered the United States illegally as children under the age of 16 and have lived in the United States for at least five years, obtained a high school or General Education Development diploma, and demonstrated "good moral character," according to a White House fact sheet.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama's strict new immigration law is backfiring. It was intended to force "illeegals" out of jobs. Instead, it is driving away many construction workers, roofers and field hands in the country legally who do backbreaking jobs that Americans won't do. The vacancies have created a void that is dealing a severe blow to Alabama's economy and is slowing the rebuilding of Tuscaloosa and other tornado-damaged cities.

Some employers believe they can carry on because of the dismal economy, however they worry there isn't anyone to hire who will do these jobs. Here is what is happening: Many LEGAL Hispanic workers are fleeing the state because their family and friends don't have the proper papers and they fear they will be jailed. And there are NO "White Americans" willing to do these jobs.

Rick Pate, the owner of a commercial landscaping company in Montgomery, lost two of his most experienced workers, who were in the country LEGALLY! He spent thousands of dollars training them to install irrigation systems at places like the Hyundai plant.
"They just feel like there is a negative atmosphere for them here. They don't feel welcome. I don't begrudge them. I'd feel nervous, too," Pate said.

While it's not clear how many of an estimated 185,000 Hispanic people in the state have fled, one estimate figured as much one-fourth of the commercial building work force has left since the (RACIST) law was upheld last week, said Bill Caton, president of Associated General Contractors of Alabama. Commercial construction is a more than $7 billion-a-year industry in Alabama.

Legislators said the law would help legal residents suffering from nearly 10 percent unemployment, but they were wrong! One of the bill's authors, Republican Sen. Scott Beason, said he expected short-term problems, but he has received "thank you" calls from (only) two (racist) people who replaced illegal immigrants who fled their jobs. Beason predicts that trickle will become a rush. "We have the best law in the country and I stand by what we've done," Beason said.
Many farmers disagreed. On Chandler Mountain in north Alabama, tomato farmer Lana Boatwright said only eight of the 48 Hispanic workers she needed for harvest showed up after the law took effect. Those who did were frightened. "My husband and I take them to the grocery store at night and shop for them because they are afraid they will be arrested," she said. Farmer Chad Smith said his family farm stands to lose up to $150,000 because there are not enough workers to pick tomatoes spoiling in the fields. "We will be lucky to be in business next year," he said.

The financial toll will be extreme! This racist law allows police to detain LATINOS they racially profile INDEEFINITELY if they say they are suspected of being in the country illegally. Additionally, this racial profiling bill requires schools to check the status of new students when they enroll. These elements make it the toughest law in the nation.

The law targets employers by forbidding drivers from stopping along a road to hire temporary workers. It also bars businesses from taking tax deductions for wages paid to illegal workers and makes it a crime for an illegal immigrant to solicit work. A federal judge has temporarily blocked those sections of the law so she can study them more.

In Alabama, ALL Latinos FEAR for their safety! "We're afraid to go to Walmart. I'm afraid to walk the kids up there to get the bus. I am afraid to drive," Gonzalez said. Her husband worked as a brick mason and cook, but was recently unemployed. Now they have decided they probably will return to Mexico. "We're just trying to be here one more year, but with this law ..." she said, her voice trailing off as she shook her head.

In Tuscaloosa, there is still a lot of rebuilding to be done after Alabama's killer tornadoes in April. Without the Hispanic workers to help out, it will take even longer for neighborhoods to be fixed up. Blake Corder, the president of the Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa, noted that the workers had left the area and he even lost a few renters in the past week.

Likewise, schools are worried about their students who have suddenly stopped showing up for class. Out of 34,000 Hispanic students, 2,285 were absent Monday. That number increased from Friday by a few hundred.

The figures show seven out of every 100 Hispanic children were out of school, even though state school officials have tried to assure parents that they won't release their names to police and that no child will be denied an education due to legal status.

At Gonzalez' mobile home community, driveways were full of cars and trucks at midday Tuesday, a time when most residents used to be at work. A resident who didn't want to be identified out of fear of the law said people are afraid to venture out during daylight. "People are just not going to work. They don't want to be arrested," the woman said.

Builders have complained they can't find replacement workers and delays in projects are expected. Once the economy picks up and construction returns to normal, the impact will increase, said Russell Davis, executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Alabama.

"There is going to be a void. No question," Davis said.

Around 7:15 a.m. Monday, a Caucasian woman approached a 50-year-old Latino worker cleaning a brick planter bench area in downtown Huntington Beach and yelled racial slurs and profanities at him, including, "I fucking hate you beaners!" She then punched the Latino without provocation, causing his lip to swell. They did not know one another before the encounter.

Surf City police who responded to the scene arrested a woman identified as Jennifer Renee Vanveldhuizen, 36, of San Diego. The OCDA has charged her with one felony count of hate crime battery causing injury, which could lead to a maximum sentence of three years in state prison if she is convicted.

Vanveldhuizen has an amazing resemblance to convicted Minutewoman Murderer Shawna Forde.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Hispanic students have started vanishing from Alabama public schools in the wake of a court ruling that upheld the state's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration. Education officials say scores of immigrant families have withdrawn their children from classes or kept them home this week, afraid that sending the kids to school would draw attention from authorities.

There are no precise statewide numbers. But several districts with large immigrant enrollments – from small towns to large urban districts – reported a sudden exodus of children of Hispanic parents, some of whom told officials they planned to leave the state to avoid trouble with the law, which requires schools to check students' immigration status. The anxiety has become so intense that the superintendent in one of the state's largest cities, Huntsville, went on a Spanish-language television show Thursday to try to calm widespread worries.

"In the case of this law, our students do not have anything to fear," Casey Wardynski said in halting Spanish. He urged families to send students to class and explained that the state is only trying to compile statistics. Police, he insisted, were not getting involved in schools.

Victor Palafox graduated from a high school in suburban Birmingham last year and has lived in the United States without documentation since age 6, when his parents brought him and his brother here from Mexico. Message to my readers: Yesterday, our President, Barack Obama, hosted a meeting for Latino Voters. I asked a question re: the Arpaio "Abuse of Power" investigation and his Racial Profiling tactics in Maricopa County. I asked when will we hear the results of this DOJ Investigation. It was reported in Huffington Post as follows: "Senior Editor Gabriel Lerner asks a question from a HuffPost LatinoVoices reader concerning Sheriff Arpaio, Obama says he won’t speak to specific cases, but that he is concerned by Arizona’s laws in regards to racial profiling." Now, USA Today News is reporting further on the President's response to my question:
USA Today reports: President Obama and Arizona-based Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- noted for his roundups of illegal immigrants -- are mixing it up. In a roundtable on Hispanic issues Wednesday, Obama said his Justice Department challenged the Arizona immigration law backed by Arpaio because "we thought that there was a great danger that naturalized citizens -- individuals with Latino surnames -- potentially could be vulnerable to questioning." "The laws could be potentially abused in ways that were not fair to Latino citizens in Arizona," Obama said.

Arpaio, interviewed on Arizona television (see link), said he resented the president's suggestion that he engages in racial profiling. "I'm an equal-opportunity guy," Arpaio said. "I enforce all the laws."

During the Hispanic roundtable, Obama was asked to comment on a reported civil rights investigation of Arpaio's office. "Well, I have to be careful about commenting on individual cases," Obama said. "That's handled typically by the Department of Justice or these other agencies. What I will say is this: that the approach that's been taken to immigration in Arizona, I think, has not always been as productive as it's been."

Arpaio said:
"He's a lawyer; he is pretty sharp to avoid direct questions. ... He made some comments talking about people being stopped because of their name. He didn't like the 1070 law, he connects me with 1070. And my answer is: I am just doing my job, and I arrest everyone that violates the law, and I am not going to stop."

At lanta (CNN) -- "Go home!" she yelled at me. "Why don't you go back home to Mexico before you ruin this country like you ruined your own!" I was standing in a crowd at the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta, where I live. A few minutes earlier I'd met a group of five people who'd been standing in front of me -- here from Mexico City -- and I had begun speaking Spanish with them.

Atlanta has a growing Latino community, and I am actively involved. Whenever I get the chance to speak to someone in Spanish here, I introduce myself. My new acquaintances and I were talking about what a great time we were having and how remarkable the city of Atlanta was for bringing back the festival to Piedmont Park.

And that's when I heard the yelling woman next to me. As if "go home" wasn't clear enough, the woman -- a 20-something Caucasian -- repeated the words in Spanish. "Vete!" I froze. I didn't quite know what to say, and I didn't want to believe she was talking to me or the group of people I had just met.

Nick ValenciaAs a third-generation Mexican-American growing up in Los Angeles, I had never encountered such overt racism. In fact, because my family was long since assimilated, among my Latino friends I was always considered the "pocho" or "white boy" of the group. (As I write this, a part of me knows somewhere in L.A., a friend of mine will be proud to know someone actually considered me Mexican enough to yell "go home" at me.)

My Mexican friends remind me that I am American first, Mexican second and that my English is better than my Spanish. "Yes," I tell them. "But I can never walk into a room and be white."

Evidently, to some the brown color of my skin means I'm not even American. My friends and family tell me what I experienced that night is a microcosm of what is happening to Latinos across the country. You don't have to look hard to find it. In news stories, in political discourse, on talk radio, in everyday conversation it seems it has become OK to treat Latinos in a negative and antagonistic way -- whether they are new immigrants or longtime Americans. The anti-immigration legislation sweeping across the United States has made this plain. People in my Latino networks say they've noticed the change. And now I understand what they mean.

Like many Americans whose grandparents or parents came here from somewhere else, I live at the intersection of my two cultures. I eat tacos, but I love cheeseburgers. I go salsa dancing, and listen to rock n' roll. I speak Spanish and English, and depending on the crowd, sometimes Spanglish. I love my country and my cultural community. My duality is my reality, just like the 50 million other Latinos in the United States.

I have been luckier than many. Before this incident, the closest I'd ever come to blatant racism was in junior high. I was in the jazz band and played first trumpet. One day our jazz band teacher invited in his predecessor, a local legend who had made Eagle Rock High School's jazz program famous in the 1980s.

The visiting instructor pointed me out and asked me to play him 16 bars of music. I did, but he quickly interrupted. "Stop, stop, stop. I don't want to hear any of that mariachi music. This is jazz."

I didn't think anything of it. Instead I felt terrible that the legend standing in front of me didn't think I was good enough. I went home that night, and like every night, at 6:30 p.m. my family sat down for dinner to talk about our day.

"How was your day, Nicky?" my dad asked. So I told him. Outraged, the next day he went to my principal and filed a formal complaint. The legend didn't come back to visit the jazz program again. Weeks later we received a letter in the mail from him apologizing for his insensitive comments. My family saved the letter.

My father was hypersensitive to ethnic identity and deeply proud of his Latino heritage. The son of a naturalized immigrant from El Salvador and a Mexican mother from Texas, he grew up in Los Angeles during a time of racial tension. When I was young he would tell me stories of the race riots in his high school, violence against people of color, and awful accounts of the struggle he had to make it as a Mexican-American teen in the 1960s.

He died when I was 17 years old, but one of the phrases he implanted in my mind before he passed was a statement activist Cesar Chavez made famous: "Si se puede" -- "Yes you can."

And now, here I was, at 28, with this stranger yelling at me to "leave." I stood there in the middle of a damp crowd on a late Atlanta evening, not comprehending, the wind still and the vibrations of Coldplay's "Yellow" filling the space in the air. I didn't say a thing. I didn't have to.

The crowd around us looked in amazement at this woman. Some of them spoke up to her, telling her she was wrong to talk to us like that. The group of people from Mexico City looked at her in disgust and, realizing from the look on my face that I must not be accustomed to what I was hearing, they turned toward me to offer support.

One of them, a young man, grabbed my hand and raised it high in the air. "Estamos aqui," he said, which translates to "We are here." It was the "Si se puede" moment.

The (crazy) woman continued to taunt us for some minutes, but when we did not reciprocate her hatred, she stopped. The band played a few more songs before ending the set, and the crowd dispersed across the park into the Saturday evening.

As I walked away, the woman and I locked eyes. "I don't think you understand who you said that to," I told her. Thinking to myself, I am as American as you are. "What," she said laughing. "Are you some kind of celebrity or something?"

No. But like the Mexicans I was standing with, I am a human being. And I am home.

Upon information and belief Ms. Cortes has voted for Russell Pearce. Upon information and belief, Ms. Cortes has no campaign committee, no volunteers for her campaign, and her campaign is being financed and operated entirely by those who wish to dilute the vote in favor of Recalled Senator, Russell Pearce.

Contestant contests the right of Contestee Cortes to be on the ballot and to run in the Recall Election currently set for November 8, 2011 because Contestee Cortes is a fraudulent and diversionary candidate within the meaning of Arizona law.
While Cortes refuses to appear in public, answer media calls or return emails, and claims on her website that she doesn't know Pearce or his opponent Jerry Lewis, the Mesa educator and Republican moderate, Cortes certainly knows the Tea Party. It is a crying shame - what is happening to Herman Cain. He foolishly believes he is a viable candidate, not a token "Sargeant Waters" puppet. We all know the Republican Teapartiers have no intention of supporting Herman Cain. The Tea Partiers are using him as a puppet, a token, their "one black best friend" so they can say, "Some of my best friends are Black." He is like HINO Marco Rubio, with less of a chance.

Republicans and especially Tea Partiers are cheering Cain for one reason: He is their token black person. They are doing this on the same basis as Republicans selected Michael Steele as the head of the Republican National Committee (RNC). They kept him in this role for a scant 2 years. Republicans and Teaparties ridiculed and criticized him for the entire time! They USED Steele as a TOKEN! He was their "One Black Friend!" Look where Steele is now. He is a pundit on the very liberal - MSNBC. The Republican Teapartiers needed another TOKEN! They have chosen Cain.

Cain is hardly the man Michael Steele is. Steele was an accomplished man. He started out his career as an Attorney. He specialized in Financial Investments for Wall Street. As a businessman, he founded his own law group and legal consulting firm. He was Chairman of the Republican Leadership Counsel. He chaired the Minority Business Enterprise taskforce. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. Then he was named head of the RNC. Even with ALL of these accomplishments, Republican Teapartiers treated Steele with disrespect and finally kicked Steele to the curb.

The TeaParty Republicans mistreated their ONE BLACK FRIEND, so they had to find another ONE.. but this time, they needed to find a "Sargeant Waters" type of Black Man, one that thought like they did, just like "Sargent Waters." The TeaParty Republicans found him in Herman Cain. This time, instead of picking a brilliant, prestigious, Republican politician and businessman who had the ability to think on his own, they picked the head of Godfather's Pizza and a far right wing radio host. They needed someone who criticized his own peer group. He's never held public office, has NO Foreign Policy experience, and has only been involved in Big Business (with some scandalous activities). They also like his far right wing views including: Anti Women's Choice, Anti-Muslim, ANTI Gay, ANTI Immigration Reform/ANTI Latino, PRO Tax Cuts for the Rich, ENDING Social Security and ENDING Medicare as we know it!

But alas, even with all his extreme right wing views, the bigots on the Far Right will NEVER Vote for him (as they NEVER really, truly supported Michael Steele). Cain will soon find out (as Sargeant Waters found out) he is just their Token!

Arpaio and His Posse Allow Felons to Run Free While they are Busy Chasing their own Tails in their Racist Quest to Get the President!

azrepublic reports: To most of us, it was just another idiotic joke . . . at our expense. A recent supermarket tabloid featured a cover photograph of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio with a big, gaudy headline reading: "Cops probe Obama." The story, which is true, said that Arpaio is allowing his volunteer Cold Case Posse to investigate claims brought to him by the Surprise "tea party" that President Barack Obama's birth certificate may not be authentic.

To everyone but the most hard-shelled, slightly cracked conspiracy nut - and our beloved sheriff - the "probe" is a ridiculous exercise, a silly one-liner the rest of the country gets to tell. With Arizona as the punch line. But if the joke gets his picture in the supermarket-checkout lane, Arpaio will laugh all the way to the tabloid cover.

"I'm listening to my constituents," the sheriff is quoted as saying. "They asked me to look at it. When I get complaints on anybody, whether politicians or anyone else, I don't throw it in the wastebasket." Really? That isn't what Arlene Banks would say.

Some time back, Arlene was at a meeting of Parents of Murdered Children that I attended. Her 21-year-old daughter, Brittanee Monique Howard, who was eight months pregnant with a baby girl, was shot and killed on May 1, 2008.

Howard was murdered in the residence she was sharing with her boyfriend in Laveen. According to reports, there was an intruder, a struggle over a gun and shots were fired. Brittanee was hit. No one has ever been arrested or charged in the case.

Brittanee's family members say they had to nag the Sheriff's Office for more than a year to get information on how the investigation was going.

"It's been really, really bad," Arlene said.

Brittanee was her only child, a happy, healthy young woman who was working at a credit union when she died.

"The last meeting we had with the Sheriff's Office was last year, when they finally decided to release a copy of the initial report to us," Arlene said. "Before that, they kept telling me that there was no report. There were things that struck us as odd, and to this day, we hardly ever hear anything."

Arlene Banks is not alone.

There are many other mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters who have lost someone to a crime that has never been solved.

To victim families, having a sheriff that allows a volunteer Cold Case Posse to stage a silly investigation of the president's birth certificate is no joke.

It's a tragedy.

It doesn't matter that the posse is made up of unpaid volunteers, as the sheriff's public-relations staff is quick to point out. It doesn't matter that no county resources or money are being wasted.

What matters is that the lives of victim families have been turned upside down and they haven't gotten any answers.

They don't want their loved ones to be forgotten.

"It's been awhile since I've been to a meeting of Parents for Murdered Children," Arlene told me. "It is difficult to sit through. Sometimes, you have to have the energy to listen to everyone's story and not leave there feeling so very down. A lot of people are looking for answers."

To victim families, a sheriff who is interested in the needs of his constituents would tell his volunteer posse that its time would be better spent investigating the many unsolved crimes in this county.

The sheriff said of his posse's investigation into Obama's birth certificate: "I'm not going to spend hours and hours looking at volumes of information. Give it to them, they're not being paid, they're doing it for nothing."

Fine. If posse members prefer to search through documents rather than search for felons, the sheriff would do taxpayers a big favor if he asked them to find out what happened to the $99.5 million in restricted jail funds that county officials say he misspent over the past eight years.

PHOENIX (CN) - Sheriff Joe Arpaio's deputies working off-duty security at the Phoenix International Raceway mercilessly beat and Tasered a man and his son "without provocation or cause," the family says.
Michael Wyman, his wife Jan and his son Wade "were enjoying a day with friends at the NASCAR race at Phoenix International Raceway" on Nov. 13, 2010, according to their complaint in Maricopa County Court. The family decided to go to the racetrack's Speed Cantina, where Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies provide security.
Michael Wyman said he was approached by a friend who he had not seen in a long time, and after he greeted the friend with "a high five and bear hugs," Deputy Preston Boyer "without verbal warning or command and without provocation or cause, approached Michael from behind and began to choke Michael using a choke hold."
Michael, "disoriented and unable to see his unidentified attacker, grabbed onto his assailant's arm to try to loosen the choke hold so he could breathe and to free himself," he says. Another sheriff's officer then pushed his wife aside "and Tasered Michael in the back," according to the complaint.
As Michael lay on the floor, the family says, a second sheriff's officer Tasered him again. His wife "begged the MCSO deputies to stop, but a deputy shoved Jan in the chest with both of his hands and ordered her to get back," the complaint states.
When the Wyman's daughter, Melissa, also pleaded with the deputies to stop, a deputy threatened to Taser her too. A deputy threatened to Taser the friend that Michael had high-fived, as well.
Jan Wyman says she went to her husband, who was lying face-down on the ground, "to hold his face off of the ground, his mouth foaming and his body still rigid and convulsing from the electrical shocks," and deputies ordered her away and threatened to Taser her again.
Although her husband "was disabled and immobilized by the Taser shocks, the MCSO deputies then stomped on Michael's arms, kicked him, and handcuffed him," according to the complaint.
The Wymans' friends told the deputies "there was no reason for the deputies' conduct," and one friend, a Phoenix firefighter, told deputies "that they could not continue to Taser Michael after Michael was handcuffed." Ron Wilson identified himself as a Phoenix firefighter, but a deputy told him "he did not 'care who the fuck' Wilson was and then threatened to Taser Wilson, too," the complaint states.
When the son, Wade Wyman, asked the deputies why they were assaulting his father the deputies "began to shove Wade backwards, and continued to shove Wade even after he raised his hand to indicate that he was not resisting nor was he attempting to touch the MCSO deputies." Then the deputies Tasered Wade, and one deputy "kicked and kneed Wade in the ribs as he handcuffed Wade," the lawsuit states.
Michael and Wade were moved behind a gated area, where they sat for an hour before the deputies decided to search them. In response to orders, Michael stood up and spread his legs to be searched, but one deputy "laughed and said, 'Oh, I guess you aren't listening!' and kicked and stomped on Michael's right leg and foot."
Two deputies restrained Michael's arms "while the first deputy continued to kick him; the kicks and stomps struck Michael's Tasered leg and the inside of his foot," the Wymans claim.
Michael Wyman says he was hospitalized after the "unprovoked and unjustified attacks," and underwent multiple surgeries "on his Tasered calf and broken foot."
Criminal charges were filed against Michael, and dismissed; no criminal charges were ever filed against Wade.
The Wymans seek punitive damages for gross negligence, assault and battery, false arrest, intentional infliction of emotional distress and malicious prosecution.
Defendants include Sheriff Joseph Arpaio, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Preston Boyer, William R. Cox, George Inuaki, Michael Martinez, Ryan Neville, Nicholas Perez, and Dominick Reaulo.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN 2: Extremist Paul Ryan Agrees with Rick Perry about Social Security being a Ponzi Scheme! Should we be Surprised?

WASHINGTON -- Speaking on (extreme right wing) conservative radio on Tuesday, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) agreed with Texas Gov. Rick Perry's (R) claim that Social Security is a "Ponzi scheme." When asked by host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday whether the country's social insurance program is a Ponzi scheme, Ryan replied, "That is how those schemes work." "So if you take a look at the technicality of Ponzi -- I would -- it's not a criminal enterprise," he said, according to a transcript. "But it is a pay-as-you-go system where ... earlier investors or, say, taxpayers, get a positive rate of return and the most recent investors -- or taxpayers -- get a negative rate of return."

Democrats immediately criticized Ryan's comments.

"Republican Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's belief that Social Security works like a Ponzi scheme proves -- once and for all -- that House Republicans have really declared war on seniors," said Jesse Ferguson, a spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, in a press release. "A Ponzi scheme is Bernie Madoff ripping off Americans -- not Social Security benefits that seniors earned and depend on during retirement."

Ponzi schemes, made famous in 1920 by Charles Ponzi, are predicated on delivering large returns to investors with money received from new investors. The Securities and Exchange Commission definition of a Ponzi scheme is, "an investment fraud that involves the payment of purported returns to existing investors from funds contributed by new investors."

Perry called Social Security a Ponzi scheme in his 2010 book Fed Up!, and he defended the characterization in a Sept. 7 GOP presidential debate. Since then, some Republicans have come out in support of the governor, including Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) who said, "As far as it [Social Security] goes, absolutely it is a Ponzi scheme."

Additionally, this past June, Reps. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) and Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) introduced legislation that would allow workers to partially opt out of Social Security immediately and fully opt out after 15 years.

A volunteer posse who aids the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the authenticity of President Barack Obama's birth certificate. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio turned over the documents to his "Cold Case Posse", a group of five volunteers who have prior law enforcement experience. Some were police officers and some were lawyers, Arpaio said, adding that their investigation will not cost the taxpayers a cent.

An MCSO spokesperson confirmed that the Sheriff's Office is not conducting the investigation. Arpaio said the move is not political (LOL) and he is only doing it because it is his duty to investigate the allegations of Maricopa County citizens. "I don't have anything personal or official about it (LOL). They came to me," Arpaio said. "I report to the people. They come to me and ask for something to be done, the lease I can do is look into it." Arpaio said no decision will be made on the next step until the investigation is complete.

Republicans have vowed to End Social Security and Medicare. During their last Presidential Debate, Ron Paul and his supporters cheered at the thought of letting a 30 year old DIE if he was ill and didn't have Health Insurance. Years ago, Ron Paul would have been booed off the stage. Nowadays, he is CHEERED by Tea Party Republican supporters.

I have a close friend who works in Medicare Enrollments. Today, Hundreds of Thousands of Seniors live on their monthly Social Security checks. They have NO OTHER INCOME! NO OTHER SAVINGS! They save their pennies. Their stories are heart breaking. They live month to month waiting by the mailbox for their monthly checks.

As a Consultant in the Financial arena, I see what is happening to those with private Retirement Accounts. The vast majority do not maintain substantial savings, and many borrow from their accounts. As long as they have access to the money, they take it - by any means necessary.

What does this tell me? We as a Nation should NEVER, EVER consider privatizing Social Security. We Can NOT do this to our Seniors, now or in the Future. We will ALWAYS need a Social Security system in place. We need a system that people CANNOT touch in their youths. We need a system that CANNOT be accessed or borrowed from. We need a system with guaranteed monthly payments for our seniors. We need this system - Social Security.

When you are a Senior, you often become ill. Sometimes you cannot take care of yourself. What will happen to our Seniors if we take away their only guaranteed source of income? Prior to Social Security, Seniors starved to death or were shipped off to an asylum or to the Poor House. They were left to DIE and many did DIE prematurely.

Do we want to revert to Pre-Depression (pre 1930s) America? Do we want our Seniors left to starve in the streets? America. We cannot afford to let any of these extreme right wing Tea Party Republican Candidates become President!

For your sake! For your Grandmother's sake! For your kids' sake! Register to Vote and Vote Democratic in 2012!
