I was doing my usual Immigration Blog search and I came across this article on another Blog. An American citizen of Hispanic descent was wrongly deported to Mexico.
"A U.S. citizen who had been in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department before he disappeared in May after being wrongly deported to Mexico was found this week and ordered released to his family.Pedro Guzman, 29, who is developmentally disabled, was taken into custody Sunday while trying to cross the border at Calexico, Mexico, said Michael Soller, a spokesman for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. The ACLU has represented Guzman's family in its attempts to get the federal government to help find him."
I am outraged by this story. I have been predicting incidents like this would happen.
The blogger mentioned her mother is getting a passport. She is a Hispanic American citizen but lives in fear of being wrongly deported. We are repeating history. This happened in the 1950´s. This is Operation Wetback all over again.
Hi Dee. Thanks for visiting my blog and directing me to yours. Your blog is incredibly informative; perhaps I can keep in touch and speak with you about the larger thesis project I'm working on.
ReplyDeleteBe well!
SOS,
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me.
I have a wealth of information I would be happy to share with you. I have been studying this issue for over a year and I have so much information to share.
Let´s stay in touch and if there is anything I can provide you, I will be happy to do so.
Also, be aware, I also invite ANTIs to my blog. I learn from them. If they visit you, be nice to them. They are ok except for this issue.
This is just plain silly to think that any large number of Hispanic citizens would get deported wrongly. The man was mentally retarded and probably didn't understand how he had to prove he was a citizen. One wrong deportation doesn't make for another Operation Wetback. All anyone needs to do is make sure their I.D. and papers are in order. Sounds like scare tactics to me being used to promote unfound fear by those with an agenda.
ReplyDeleteOne guy gets wrongly deported. Not a bad number considering there are 12 to 20 million illegals that could be deported and are not. This is a mentally retarded man whose family should be watching out for him. Let's blame this happening because the illegal invasion is going on. No one is allowed to ask "Are you legal?" I think everyone black, white, brown should be able to be asked are you legal and be prepared to prove it. Something has to be done.
ReplyDeleteAN, SOS is another Blogger. Her mother is a citizen and is Hispanic. She lives in fear of the same thing happening to her. She is getting a passport so she has ID on her 24-7.
ReplyDeleteThe fact authorities deported him because he was Hispanic is ridiculous. If your little brother has olive skin, he may be next.
This is the same thing that happened in the 1950´s. It is deplorable!!
This man was deported because he couldn't prove that he is a citizen. It was not based on his skin color.
ReplyDeleteWhy would any Hispanic citizen fear being deported when all they would have to do is have their I.D. and citizenship papers? You are not making any sense at all. No one gets deported if they have these documents. I know many Hispanic citizens personally and not one of them has said that they fear getting deported, in fact they laughed at such a ridiculous notion.
Sounds like someone is pushing some propoganda here. If there are some living in fear then I would say they don't have their documents in order and I would suggest that they do. End of problem.
Sos´mom has that fear and she is a legal citizen.
ReplyDeleteI think many people are nervous with all the media attention and anger going on.
Nothing to fear if your are a citizen and can show proof. If you are illegal, you should be deported.
ReplyDeleteHere are the parts of the story that were left out in here.......
ReplyDelete"The A.C.L.U. released a statement saying Mr. Guzman told family members on Tuesday that he had walked from Tijuana, Mexico, to Mexicali, across from Calexico, a distance of some 100 miles, and ate out of trash cans."
"A spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Lori Haley, declined to comment, because the family was suing the government. The agency has said it followed proper procedure in deporting Mr. Guzman."
"Mr. Guzman had served about 20 days of a jail sentence for misdemeanor trespassing and vandalism until May 11, when, in a screening of inmates’ status, he apparently indicated he was from Mexico and was turned over to the immigration agency, which deported him to Tijuana."
"An immigration agent, Pilar Garcia, said in a deposition that agents did not normally investigate whether someone claiming to be foreigner was a United States citizen."
Note that Mr. Guzman indicated to authorities that he was from Mexico and not the United States. Note that Mr.Guzman was deported based on that because agents do not normally check when someone claims to be a foreigner and not a U.S. citizen. Note that ICE followed proper procedure for deporting him.
