John and Cindy McCain Meet the Press to defend against accusations of McCain´s marital and lobbying indiscretions.
The New York Times Reports:
For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk
By JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON
Published: February 21, 2008
WASHINGTON — Early in Senator John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers. A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity. When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s client, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
note: The NY Times says this story has been a long time in the works. The story speaks for itself. No one has challenged what their report says.
Wikipedia Reports:
McCain Spouses:
1. Carol Shepp (1965-1980) (divorced)
2. Cindy Hensley McCain (1980-Present)
In April 1979, while attending a military reception for senators in Hawaii, McCain met and fell in love with Cindy Lou Hensley, 17 years his junior, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona who was the daughter of James Willis Hensley, a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor, and Marguerite Smith Hensley...McCain filed for and obtained an uncontested divorce from his wife Carol in Florida on April 2, 1980. He gave her a generous settlement, including houses in Virginia and Florida and financial support for her ongoing medical treatments resulting from the 1969 automobile accident; they would remain on good terms. McCain and Hensley were married on May 17, 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona, with Senators William Cohen and Gary Hart (another well known cheater) as best man and groomsman. McCain's children were upset with him and did not attend the wedding.
3. Ms Vicki Iseman (illicit affair) (1990´s)
NY Times reports said affair with Ms. Vicki Iseman. Salon.com reports that during this same period, Cindy McCain confessed her Percocet and Vicodin drug addiction to Jane Pauley on Dateline and Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America and the fact that she stole the drugs from her own nonprofit medical relief organization.
Dee, I am not a McCain fan but I'm going to defend him on this one and I think you should consider it too. After all, you are a researcher. That was nothing but a hit piece with NO facts, NO names, NO verified sources. Furthermore, McCain came out this morning and vigorously denied it.
ReplyDeleteThe NY Times has a history of not only being an extremely liberal paper but also providing false stories.
But, I guess the damage is done when the hit is made because there will be those people that will believe it irregardless the facts.
By the way, don't you find it strange that the NY Times endorsed McCain all the while supposedly having this story??? Hmmmm Pretty strange to me.
Dianne,
ReplyDeleteI agree it was a hit piece, but,
1. Did he do it?
2. Who is doing the Hitting? (I don´t think its the NY Times.
The blogs are ALL OVER THIS STORY! Hundreds of them! Thousands! And do you know what else? The ANTI blogs and discussion boards are the ones pushing it. This interesting piece of gossip by an ANTI blogger that supports Ron Paul.
Well, I still won't believe something without facts. I did read the piece you referenced but who knows if the spin on it is true (I did know the story about Rx drugs before).
ReplyDeleteIf McCain is guilty, then he deserves to lose the nomination and be replaced. If it's not true (and I still think that's the case) and the NY Times did this to smear McCain and taint his election bid, then I think they should be sued and put out of business.
What if this was Barack Obama and the hit piece was by the Washington Times. I bet there'd be hell to pay, charges of racism, the whole 9 yards.
Well, I don´t know for sure either Dianne. All I know is it is on thousands and thousands of blogs. Just go to Google Blog search and put in the name McCain and see for yourself.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing is, the Cindy McCain drug reference and Diane Sawyer, Jane Pauley articles are accurate. Cindy did go on those shows and say what she said.
The only thing that confounds me is, why are the ANTI blogs busy posting all this stuff. I can understand it from the Dems, but why the GOP ANTIs? Befuddling!!
Geez, dee you obsessed with anti blogs. Seek help. The anti's who are in large part Republicans, don't like McCain. We don't have a dog in this race right now for either party.
ReplyDeleteFinally....a Republican sex scandal that involves a man and a woman.
