AZ Gov Napolitano Vetos Immigration Bill - Some Say Due to Arpaio´s Racial Profiling!

Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano has vetoed AZ´s lates immigration bill. This is upsetting many of the local AZ ANTI politicians.

Napolitano vetoes bill on enforcing immigration
April 28, 2008 - 10:35PM
PHOENIX - Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed legislation Monday to require police departments and sheriff's deputies to do more to crack down on illegal immigration despite its bipartisan support. On one hand, Napolitano said HB 2807 is unnecessary because nothing in state law precludes local police agencies from entering into agreements with the federal government to have their officers certified to stop, question and detain people not in this country legally. She said the only thing they need is the proper federal training. "Many of these have already entered into these agreements on a voluntary basis,'' the governor wrote. "A legislative mandate to that effect is unnecessary." She also said the legislation could end up being a $100 million drain on the already overtapped state treasury. The measure mandated that police agencies have some sort of program to deal with violations of federal immigration laws...
Prezelski said he believes Napolitano's real reason for vetoing the bill had less to do with what it says and more to do with the politics surrounding the whole issue of illegal immigration and the role of local police agencies. "I don't think there was any problem with the bill legally, any problem with what the bill said in black and white,'' he said. But Prezelski said there were "larger political implications'' at hand. "It's happening in the context of what (Sheriff) Joe Arpaio is doing in Maricopa County,'' he said. The sheriff, who has had many of his officers certified to enforce immigration laws, has done a series of "sweeps'' of certain neighborhoods, looking for minor traffic violations as an excuse to pull people over and question them about whether they are in this country legally. In some circumstances that has occurred over the objections of officials of the cities where he is operating. Napolitano has repeatedly refused to take a public position on whether she believes the sweeps are legal or even good public policy. But Prezelski said this may be her way of expressing her concern. "Maybe this was an opportunity to say, 'No, this is not a local matter,'" he said. The activities of Arpaio clearly were on the minds of Hispanic activists who urged Napolitano to veto the legislation. "Racial profiling and targeting a sector of the population based on race, color of skin and national origin will only multiply as has been demonstrated in the Maricopa County Sheriff Office's operations,'' officers of Somos America wrote to the governor last week. The group, whose name translates as "We Are America,'' said the legislation "will amplify sweeps of this style, violate (individuals') civil liberties and often result in costly litigation.''

  1. Napolitano is an un-American traitor and needs to be removed from office. This isn't the first time she has showed a total lack of respect for our immigration laws and is probably in the back pockets of the greedy employers. She has shown her true colors over and over for the past several years.

  2. You left out the best parts as usual.

With HB 2807 now dead, that could provide impetus for a more comprehensive ballot measure being pushed by Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa.

That measure spells out that anyone who entered this country illegally or remained here after a visa expired is guilty of the state crime of trespass, whether on public or private property.

And that clearly would give all police - and not just those with the special federal training - the power to arrest them.

HCR 2039 already has gained preliminary House approval. Nelson said the requirement Napolitano found objectionable for the state to fund training for police agencies was put in at the behest of local governments. He said they did not want an "unfunded mandate.''

I'm betting it's just like last time, this is a back door deal, and Napolitano will sign the Bill 2039 when it comes up. This Bill, 2039, doesn't even appear to cost any money, like that of Bill 2087. So, if she is saying 2087 costs to much and 2039 doesn't necessarily cost anything, guess what, 2039 will become law.

  3. Sorry Liquid.
    The tide is turning.
    Politicians are finally getting it.
These type of restrictionist laws do not work.

It is time for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and for Arpaio to retire!

  4. Do you remember why AZ got the last Bill through. Pearce had one lying behind the one she signed that was worse then the one she signed. Either you have forgotten, or you have no idea how politics work. Watch and see, 2039 will be signed within the next few months.

  5. Phoenix Police Back Arpaio in Re-Election Bid

There's no love lost between Mayor Phil Gordon and Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but rank-and-file Phoenix police have cast their lot with the sheriff.

The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association has announced that it will support Arpaio in his re-election bid against former Buckeye Police Chief Dan Saban.

  6. Dream on, dee. The tide is turning in our direction, not yours. They are aren't called "restrictionist laws" they are called immigration laws and we have had them on the books for some time now. Call them what they are dee, "immigration laws". Time to pass the Save Act and hold both the employers and the illegals accountable for their actions. Each state will be taking their own action now also. A few more Sheriff Joe's and we will be taking our country back.

  7. Just curious dee, will you be in the marches on May 1? If so, will your husband and family be marching with you?

  8. Dee:

You denounce "restrictionist laws". That implies you want unrestricted immigration. What else can we believe but that your CIR is just a ruse for getting as many of your ethnic peers into the US as possible?

  10. Deputies arrest 21 people in Phoenix raids

The Sheriff's Office took over the investigation of the safe house at 51st Avenue and Thomas Road after receiving a tip from Phoenix Police, Arpaio said. Deputies contacted and arrested the seven men outside the home-a good decision, according to the Sheriff, because deputies discovered an arsenal of dangerous weapons inside.

Deputies found an AK-47 assault rifle and several other rifles and revolvers, thousands of rounds of armor-piercing ammunition, body armor, and a small amount of drugs and money inside the home.

Arapio said he was upset because the Sheriff's Office has recently taken heat from politicians and activists for its crime suppression operations in Phoenix and surrounding areas in the last month.

He pointed to the mound of contraband deputies had confiscated from the houses as an example of what good can come from the Sheriff's Office's enforcement practices.

"I have taken heat from the mayor and activists over my crime suppression operations. But this is crime suppression," Arpaio said.

None of the arrests Tuesday were a direct result of the crime sweeps that have generated recent criticism.

Arpaio said the Sheriff's Office would carry out its next crime suppression effort in Mesa.

  11. She says local police are in many cases doing this already. If so, why does she put a multi million dollar price tag on this. The police should be doing this anyway consistent with budget limitations and the feds willingness to reimburse locals for any extra costs. When you're talking about costs, racial profiling is a good thing because it enables the police to zero in on the most likely locations of illegals. There is no sense in pursuing an 80 year old grandmother in tennis shoes even if she is illegal. She's just not likely to be a significant part of the problem.

One can only hope that the voters give Napolitano the boot at the gubernatorial election.

But I thought you were in favor of border security! Laws work if properly enforced. That's what Sheriff Joe is trying to do. One has to wonder about those who find this objectionable.

  13. Hran,
As Ive often said, I believe in CIR. Secure Borders. Employer Sanctions. Bring the 12M out of the shadows.

    What must stop:
    . Racial Profiling
    . Family Detention Centers
. Restrictionist Laws that promote racial profiling.

  14. Liquid,
It is not surprising some of the union would be behind arpaio. I said the tide is turning. In months-years past, the sheriff received majority support for his tactics. Now, more and more leaders, people and groups are being brave and voicing their concerns for his heinous racial profiling tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Liquid,
Of course there is always Immigration legislation occurring at the local and national level. The legislation is both PRO and ANTI and NOT all your sided. I said the tide is turning. Where your side was gaining momentum, not it is ebbing.

  16. Ulty,
I am in favor of CIR, not Arpaios racial profiling tactics.

  17. The Governor does not want to foot the bill for Arpaio any longer. If the bill passes, she knows Arpaio and any other like minded cops will send in a big fat bill for their overtime and she knows, as in the past, arpaio will start his rampages and charge an arm and leg for all of his mugging before the media!

  19. Pat,
Are you an ANTI shill who goes to various PRO blogs and discussion boards to disrupt things?

    Just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually Pat, what I do to shock new PROs is to give them the alipac.us link. I let them know it is a very extremist ANTI site comprised of their neighbors next door. VERY SCARY!!!
They don´t believe it until they see it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Then for a hoot, I will give them VDare, Stormfront or the mm website. Then they really go into shock!
They cannot believe all that hate is out there!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. dee

When you march tomorrow spread the word to all the hispanics in the crowd not to believe the rumor about the emergency rooms. But on the other hand, encourage the people to go to the doctor's office with their insurance cards when they have a cold or other minor illness and leave the emergency room open for true emergencies.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I post in a couple of blogs but I don't know what you mean by disruption. Is giving another point of view, disruption? I thought it was called debate.

    ReplyDelete
  24. There are some extremists in the alipac site just as there are extremists in the pro sites. Why do you only focus on and harp about the extremists in the anti sites but not the pro sites?

    ReplyDelete
  25. dee, the thing to remember is the part where I said that "some" are extremists in both the anti and pro sites. They don't represent the majority in them most of the time. Well, I can think of an exception or two, however. But lets stick with the rational and normal members of those forums and blogs who are the majority.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You sure like slinging around the trigger word "hate", don't you dee? I don't see hate. I see many Americans who are frustrated over the illegal immigration mess we are in with no relief in sight. That isn't the same thing as hate. But you always did exaggerate with your little trigger words as liquid has pointed out many times.

I keep wondering why there are some Americans who "hate" this country and it's traditional society so much that they are advocating an illegal invasion of our country.

  27. Pat, Go back and look at your description of HB forum.

    ReplyDelete
  28. dee, the HB forum is akin to the KKK. Neither one of those two groups represent ANYTHING rational. There are other pro and anti blogs where there are sane people posting in them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Patriot, I'm still taking in the HB forum.

But Dee, as for lumping VDARE in with Stormfront: no, they're not even close. However, the Stormfront people do very good work for the brown nationalists by giving them something to point to.

ALIPAC is extreme? Kind of liberal if you ask me.

  30. Hran,
    Please share your opinion of
    VDARE:

    Stormfront:

    KKK:

    Minutemen:

    - Gilchrist

  31. Pat,
I totally disagree with you about HB. I think they have a core group of PRO people who frequently post who are very comfortable with one another. There is another group of Alipac members that go in there and harass them. Sometimes, both groups get into arguments where they taunt each other.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The problem with the HB forum is that they no longer debate, they rather chastise and ridicule anybody with a different point of view or perspective. The mods. in there do as they please, say what they want, are just as much to blame. Each and every topic that is created is turned into a your a racist and go somewhere else, deport from this forum. The HB forum, isn't worth the effort to post in, as they have no reasoning, its their way or no way, period.

AliPac does the same thing. However, the persons will debate you and voice there views, only once the other side calls them racists, xenophobes, etc. do they then get banned.

Both forums are only good for reading, once in a while you obtain some perspective of what they are about, with a rational view.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The problem with HB is that they have biased moderators. I know a couple of anti's who have or still do post in there and they are threatened by the moderators if they step out of line at all and yet the pro's in there can insult away all day. Let me give you an example. One of the anti members in there made a remark to one of the pro's (which I didn't see anything particularly offensive) as I read that forum and one of the moderators threatened to ban him. Yet one of their hard core raza members told another member to "go F yourself" and not one word of warning to her or threat of being banned.

Moderators should never take sides. They should just moderate and make sure that EVERY member both pro and anti follow the forum rules.

If an anti goes in there and just merely shows his/her objection to illegal immigration, the raza in there all gang up on them including the moderators. They attack their personal lives also without even knowing them. Calling them unemployed, lazy and not caring about their families and other nasty remarks. Do you find that acceptable, dee?

    ReplyDelete
  34. This same raza-pro who said "go F yourself" also said that if it weren't against the law she would stab an anti in the gut and smile while they bled and died. The moderators didn't say one damn word to her. Oh, and that is just the tip of the iceberg with this vile b@tch. I posted in there long ago but I will never ever go in there again until they get rid of their biased moderators. But I guess the sh@t stinks all the way to the top because their Admin have been made known what is going on in there and they don't seem to care. They all give Hispanic Business Magazine a bad name and all Hispanics in general.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh and their moderators continue to delete any anti remarks whereby they are defending themselves from the initial personal attack by a pro-raza in there. They allow the pro-raza's personal attacks and insult of the anti's to stand while they delete the reply from the anti who retaliates.

Yeah, real fair and unbiasd moderators. What gets me is one of the moderators is in law enforcement and the other is the mother of several kids. How can they have such low morals and scruples? How can they even look themselves in the mirror or look their kids in the face? Absolutely disgusting! They have no consciences nor no souls. May they burn in hell for their sins.

  36. Gosh Pat, tell us how you really feel about HB.
Actually, from my perspective, I like to visit HB, Alipac, and about 3 other sites each day to check in on the latest Immigration news. I also search Google News and Google Blogs. I do this so I can post the very latest and hottest Immigration news on my Blog.
I love to be on the leading edge or be the one with the Breaking News. Then I love to gain both the PRO and the ANTI perspectives.
I am now linked on some of the hottest boards in the country so I think I owe it to my readers to share the latest news.
I also love the fact I have some of the smartest PROs and ANTIs in the country participating in civil discussions on my Blog.
I believe that any media outlet in the nation or in the world can come to my blog and get the latest scoop on what is happening with Immigration in the US by viewing my blog each day. And, I owe it all to the commenters and to the various forums I visit!!
