Breaking News!! Soap Opera Politics Vol 1 Issue 22: John Edwards Confesses Affair But Says He Didn´t Love Her!

John Edwards finally confessed!! He told ABC News he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. (What a stupid thing to say!) He is also saying he did not father her baby (riiigghhht) although no blood tests have been taken.
As I reported last year, the Enquirer was the first "rag" to report Edwards affair early last summer. This week, they headlined with pictures of Edwards visiting Hunter in a hotel and carrying their "love child."
Ordinarily, I pay no attention to these headlines, however, this case is different!
In many cases, it is usually the cover up, but not the crime that gets you. However, this case puts a particularly bad taste in your mouth because Mrs. Edwards has been so brave throughout her fight with cancer. She is a very strong and respected woman. She was there fighting for him on the campaign trail. She was using her much needed energy to stand up for him, to defend him and to take on his adversaries. AND, this is most important, he LET her!! Secondly, he lied to us, the American Public and to his many supporters.

At least he dropped out of the Presidential Race and hopefully from Politics!

I refuse to judge Edwards, but I am mad at him!!

  1. My other question is, why on earth is he outing himself to ABC News and why now? Very odd!! There must be some underlying reason.

  2. I wonder if he was told to out himself before the conventions so the GOP would not use him for target practice and distract from the election.

  3. Oh No! Extra (tabloid show) is on MSNBC right now and they are showing clips of the Bimbo saying Edwards was "so real" and "so willing to try new things." This is going to get ugly!!

  4. The National Enquirer? LOL! You can't be serious to believe their garbage, do you?

My wife's neice was accused of stalking Garth Brooks in another one of those gossip rag magazines. She is somewhat of a celebrity and is only a fan of his music. She has never even met him!

  5. All the News Channels are discussing it Pat. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. All of them. It is the HOT HOT HOT headline of the Day. Very sad. He and the Bimbo probably deserve the heat. His wonderful, courageous wife does not!! All Women Agree!!

  6. Actually, after seeing the Bimbo on Extra again, I think she set him up. He was an Idixt for Falling for it, especially since he wanted to be President!!

  7. The media is saying 50 - 80% of men cheat.

  8. Frankly, who cares. He turned out to be human after all, and I'm not surprised. But, for the sake of debate....

He's coming out because major news media outlets picked up the initial story, and found out that The National Enquirer was right about some things.

I didn't trust him anyway. A lawyer from the south with presidential ambitions caught cheating with his wife. Sound familiar?

  9. Ok, apparently Edwards admits that he had an extramarital affair. I think just about every politician has. Goes to show you how immoral and untrustworthy those we elect are.

  10. Arizonian,
Women care much more about these type of issues than men do. That is very clear.
We admire Elizabeth Edwards. She is a role model for anyone who has had the disease. She was a strong advocate for her husband.
This is what hurts so much for all of us, her supporters.

  11. Think about how much stress he put his wife through while she was already in the battle for her life. It's a proven fact that stress can affect health. He should know this, being the ambulance chasing lawyer that he was. I'm sure his actions contributed to her relapse.

  12. I have no doubt his actions contributed to her relapse.

I saw him on Nightline last night. At least he didnt have her sitting there next to him.

He was an absolute fxxl to do what he did. The woman had to be a set up. She was 44 years old and he met her in a bar. No one, especially at that age, gets pregnant by accident.

The whole problem besides what he did to his family is this will distract from the election. Hopefully a small distraction. It appears his friends paid off the woman. Also the woman had helpers and it looks like the Enquirer was called by them or someone close to them. The last visit was a pure set up and Edwards was a fxxl to go there. I think that is the sole reason he finally told the truth. He got caught.

  13. Comment from a MALE Blogger in the American Chronicle:
"many politicians have trouble remaining faithful to their spouses. We know that President John F. Kennedy had numerous affairs, as has his brother Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA). We know that Gov. Elliot Spitzer (D-NY) as well as Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) have kept company with prostitutes. We know that former Congressman Ed Schrock (R-VA) was looking for sex partners on gay chat lines in Washington D.C., and that Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) pled guilty to disorderly conduct, after being arrested inside an airport bathroom, where he was accused of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer."

"Is the stress and angst brought on by tragedy an excuse for abandoning your marriage vows? Of course not, but it is understandable and actually fairly common.

According to a University of California (San Francisco) study conducted in 1998, 24 percent of men and 14 percent of women have had extramarital affairs. The Associated Press has reported that at least 17 percent of U.S. marriages end in divorce. While other studies and researchers suggest that the number of Americans cheating on their spouses is much higher, the very nature of an affair makes it difficult to document. However, it is safe to say that a great deal of us have done or are currently doing the same thing for which John Edwards is now being condemned.

While so many claim to be appalled by the details of Edwards´ affair and by the fact that a married man would cheat on his sick wife, I believe the truly appalling facts are that the Great American Pastime seems to have become passing puritanical judgment upon others, even worse…We now have a mainstream press which holds itself to a standard no higher than does a supermarket tabloid."

  14. "Women care much more about these type of issues than men do. That is very clear."

My problem isn't discussing the issue of infidelity, my problem is with who cares about the infidelity of John Edwards? Seriously.

Why, is this news? What real impact does this have on the U.S.?

I put this "story" in the same category as Brittney Spears not wearing panties. It has no real value as a news story. Only ratings.

Meanwhile China is re-living the '36 Olympics, and Russia has invaded Georgia.

But it's all about Edwards and this alleged "love child".

  16. One has to wonder about the effect of the quiet acceptance by the wives of philanderers like Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, JFK, FDR and now Edwards. What message do they send to other husbands who may have wayward tendencies? The example they need is a nasty divorce with high priced lawyers battling over all of the assets of these clods. that might send a message that philandering is not without costs, not just in reputation but in treasure.

  17. A resident of Edwards' home town in North Carolina calls him an unethical malpractice lawyer who would sue his own mother if he could make a buck. All this while he sanctimoniously preached about helping the poor and down trodden as he went about the country in his $1000 Armani suits. Seems like the top leaders of the Democratic party are having a hard time with their zippers.

  18. This guy was known to be on Obama's list for a nice cabinet position, like Attorney General, if not VP. And, it ain't too cool for an Attorney General to be a liar. Not the baby's daddy? Yah, right.

Huffington tears him apart today..a good read.

  19. I expect any day now that we will see a story about McCain's marital infidelity so I guess we might as well get used to it and recognize that men away from home and subject to the adulation of their followers are almost certain to find their way into someone's bed other than that of their spouse. I suspect Edwards followers feel that they have been plucked some by his betrayal but will turn right around and focus their adulation on the latest pretty face and charismatic candidate. Of course, to devoted party groupies, every candidate that exudes power and magnetism is worthy of their adulation and sexual favors even if there is some hint of the real snake oil salesman sifting the through the candidate's public facade.

This is similar to the adulation and attraction CEOs feel from some of their subordinates who think of them as gods.

  20. "Is the stress and angst brought on by tragedy an excuse for abandoning your marriage vows? Of course not, but it is understandable and actually fairly common."

Why is it understandable? Why is it fairly common? Is there "still" different standards for male and female? Why? Why is this wrong? To some it is morally wrong, but even if it isn't to others, it still causes pain for too many, not only the spouse but the children, and others. Is getting pregnant at 44 unusual? No. For many years, among married women, this is called a 'change of life' accident. Calling the other woman a bimbo, is demeaning, and blames HER, not the male. It takes two to tango, or tangle. To say they met at a bar means nothing. The bars today are equally full of male and female.

Why is he outing now - because too many already knew, and the Democrats wanted to wash 'their' hands of any part of it - like he's the only bad apple. Add Gary Hart and Rep. Condit and Bill Clinton to the list. No conspiracy here.

"He was an idiot to fall for it"? As one comedian once said, a male uses his brain or his you-know-
what, but not at the same time. So, who will we hear about next?

    Not ultima.

  21. LOL! These philandering husbands need to be placed in a room and forced to watch the movie "Fatal Attraction" over and over for 24 hours straight.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Arizonian, I agree with you. This topic has no place in the political debate. I also got wrapped up in it due to the focus on this issue by Fox, MSNBC and the MSM and papparazzi.

  23. Ulty,
I heard one late night comedian on a cable channel say "With the Dems, at least their philandering is with Women!"
Doesnt say much about the Republicans (eg. Craig, Foley, etc ). I think that is why some of the shock jocks are tredding lightly.

I have to admit I have responded as a "female first" on this particular blog. Most married women cannot abide by cheaters or bimbos, regardless of the excuse. That is why so many of us sided with Hillary and now with Elizabeth.

Fox reported today that Ms. Hunter kept a diary of her emails and is about to make them public. Soon she will be as famous as the rest of the Bimbos. Perhaps as rich. We all know about these kind of women and the lengths they will go to "trap a man."

Men who get trapped have their own selves to blame. Edwards was an Idiot!!
Like Pat said, philandering husbands need to be placed in a room and be forced to watch "Fatal Attraction."

  25. "This topic has no place in the political debate."

It has no place as "news". It's gossip and nothing more. Any entity that dares call itself a news-organization should never have picked this dribble up. Leave it on TMZ, The National Enquirer, and Extra. Save the time allocated for news program to actuallt report some NEWS.

  26. Arizonian, I agree, however the MSM is still reporting and salivating on it. Hopefully it will die down in the next day or two.

Still, my heart goes out to Mrs Edwards. She should dump the bum!! Same with Hillary!!

I put racism and infidelity right up there with each other.
