Palin is a Slap in the Face to Hillary Supporters!

I do not believe ANY Hillary supporters will vote for scandal soaked, former Beauty Queen (as Pat Buchanan repeated so often today) Sarah Palin.
Here is why:
1. Hillary is a brilliant diplomat, well experienced in foreign policy, Palin is not.
2.Hillary is an excellent, knowledgable speaker and holds her own in the toughest debates. We know nothing about Palins debate style.
3. Senators, Congress, political leaders around the world know and respect Hillary. Not even Kay Bailey Hutchinson (who would have made a far better, more credible choice for VP vs Palin) knew who Palin was when she was interviewed on CNN this morning.
4. Palin is wrong on Pro Choice, Wrong on Gun Control, Wrong on Gay Rights, Wrong on Equal Pay for Equal Work, Wrong on Global Warming (but Pat Buchanan says she is a former Beauty Queen!)
5. Palin supported Pat Buchanan in his last Presidential Bid! (and is a former Beauty Queen)

What a slap in the face to ALL WOMEN to have someone with Palin´s lack of knowledge, skills, experience, so far less than Hillary, in line for President! What an insult to Hillary and to ALL Women!! (How dare Palin invoke Hillary´s name today during her VP acceptance speech merely pandering for female Democratic voters to support her.)
Even her own state questions her V.P. Candidacy.
The Anchorage Daily News reports: Palin candidacy raises eyebrows in Alaska
By DAN JOLING / Associated Press Writer Published: August 29th, 2008 11:45
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a comely candidate with a reputation for fighting corruption, but lately her reputation within the state has been bit by allegations of mixing political and family business, and by mistreating one of the state's premier marine mammals.
. Palin's catch-phrase of "openness and transparency" has been tarnished by revelations that staff members tried to have Palin's former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper. (hear Palen´s staff use insider influence to get brother in law fired)
. Also, the governor of the only state with polar bears has adamantly opposed listing the animals as a threatened species, despite strong evidence that global warming has devastated their sea ice environment off Alaska's coast.
. And despite John McCain's claim Friday that Palin is a budget-cutter, the governor this year oversaw 6 percent increase in Alaska's operating and construction budget, fueled by a revised tax structure and skyrocketing crude oil prices.
Dermot Cole, a longtime columnist for Alaska's second largest newspaper, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, called McCain's choice of Palin "reckless" and questioned her credentials.
"Sarah Palin's chief qualification for being elected governor was that she was not Frank Murkowski," Cole said of her enormously unpopular predecessor, who lost favor with Alaskans in part because of unpopular budget cuts. "She was not elected because she was a conservative. She was not elected because of her grasp of issues or because of her track record as the mayor of Wasilla."
Her enormous popularity in the state took a hit this summer over her firing of her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, a former Anchorage police chief. State lawmakers launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Monegan because he would not fire the governor's ex-brother-in-law, Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten, who has been involved in a messy custody battle with Palin's sister. (some integrity!!)
In 2005, before Palin ran for office, the Palin family accused Wooten of drinking beer in his patrol car, illegally shooting a moose and firing a Taser at his 11-year-old stepson. The Palins also claimed Wooten threatened to kill Sarah Palin's father. Wooten was suspended over the allegations for five days in 2006 but still has his job.
Palin denied the commissioner's dismissal had anything to do with her former brother-in-law and denied orchestrating dozens of telephone calls made by staff and family members to Wooten's bosses. The investigation launched by state lawmakers is expected to take at least three months.
State Sen. Hollis French, D-Anchorage, said Palin's candidacy does not change the investigation. "I think it raises its profile. I don't think it changes the steps you go through. It is what it is. You have to find out what happened," French said. The investigator hired by lawmakers two days ago told the Department of Law it was time to schedule Palin's deposition, French said.
Palin, in a move that shook up Alaska's Republican party, took on the state's long-term congressional delegation, U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young, calling on them to explain why they're the target of federal corruption investigations. But she has been just as dogged trying to protect Alaska's main industry and cash cow, petroleum extraction, from the side-effects of Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne's decision to list polar bears as a threatened species. "Listing polar bears under the Endangered Species Act has the potential to damage Alaska's and the nation's economy without any benefit to polar bear numbers or their habitat," Palin said, a statement environmental groups call ridiculous. Polar bears use sea ice as a platform to hunt seals and the listing has the potential to disrupt future offshore drilling in polar bear territory. The disappearance of ice at such an alarming rate forced Kempthorne, who had not added a U.S. creature to the endangered species list since he took office, to declare polar bears threatened. Summer sea ice last year shrunk to the lowest level since the beginning of satellite observations, about 1.65 million square miles, nearly 40 percent less than the long-term average between 1979 and 2000. The National Snow and Ice Data Center said this week that 2008 could break that record. Most climate modelers predict a continued downward spiral, possibly with an Arctic Ocean that's ice free during summer months by 2030 or sooner. Palin contends climate models are unreliable, polar bear numbers have not crashed and they've survived other periods of warming. She has also claimed polar bears could adapt to living on land - a contention most international polar bear scientists find specious, given that grizzly bears already occupy that niche on land and polar bears have shown little ability to feed on land, other garbage or the occasional whale carcass. Palin is suing to overturn Kempthorne's decision.
Palin also claims to be a fiscal conservative, but watched this year as Alaska reaped the bounty of high oil prices and a revised tax structure. The excess has spared her from any sort of challenge to make tough budget-cutting decision, but did spur her to come to the rescue of Alaskans facing the nation's highest energy costs. Palin championed a $1 billion energy assistance package that will send each resident $1,200 to help offset energy costs, which runs to more than $9 per gallon for gasoline in rural Alaska. That will be on top of dividends from the Alaska Permanent Fund, checks to each qualified resident that are expected to exceed $2,000 this year.

  1. Ok Arizonian. You know I like you and think you are a very intelligent poster. I will respond to your questions even though I know you are a staunch Republican and will probably disagree with everything I say.

Palin is a slap in the face because the Republicans believe she is comparable to Hillary Clinton and would be a viable 2nd choice to those Hillary voters so disgruntled to the Dem ticket that they are willing to choose a viable female candidate in the Republican party. Pail is NOT even a close 2nd. A viable choice for your side may have been Condoleeza, Kay Bailey, but Palin? Come On! Don´t be ridiculous!

  3. My stance on Firearms?
    I believe in Civil Liberties.
However, I have a former friend who committed suicide.
I do not believe that person would have killed themselves except for the fact they were depressed that night and had access to a gun.
If you do have a gun, it should be licensed. I do not believe there is a need for assault weapons.

What is scary to me is all those angry people who go to those gun shows and have dozens of guns at their disposal.
I believe in Civil Liberties, but gun ownership troubles me.

It is one of those areas I do not have a solution for and merely live by the Bill of Rights.

For me personally, I do not allow guns, weapons in my home and my family, children, extended family do not have guns nor have access to them.

  4. My view on Abortion?
I do not support Abortion. I have never had nor have I ever considered an Abortion.
However, I believe women should have a choice and they themselves, with their family, with their counsel, should have the opportunity to make a choice based on the cirucumstances.

I say this very lightly, however, because I believe in Life!

I love Children! I love Family!

This issue is very troubling for me. I am so often torn on this issue. I think each case should be viewed individually.

  5. I am against division (wedge issue) politics. I think the demands are more on the Republican side vs the Dems.

The Dems believe in Choice for Abortion, for Gays, for Religion.

Personally, I do not advocate Gun Control. I only demand none in my home or around me.

    ReplyDelete
  6. AZ, Gun Registration to you is like eVerify for me. I continually flip flop on the issue. I know it is the right thing to do but I also think it is a violation of civil liberties.

Regarding the person I know who committed suicide, I know for a fact, no gun, no suicide. Kinda person they were. It was spur of the moment when that person thought all was going wrong and choices were limited.

I hate guns, even though my Dad was a deer hunter.

  7. AZ, the more I think about it, it is more handguns and assault weapons I oppose.

Keeping the hunting weapons in a locked gun case requires time and thinking. Perhaps that is an important differentiation.

  9. re: gun control

The problem is not guns per se, but Hispanics and blacks with guns.

Notice that Vermont (white persons not Hispanic, 2006 95.7%) allows citizens to carry without a permit.

Whereas Washington D.C. (black persons, percent, 2006 (a) 56.5%) had one of the most restrictive gun laws (before being struck down in the recent Supreme Court decision).

It is also very difficult to get a carry permit in Los Angeles County (white persons not Hispanic, 2006 29.2%) ...

  10. Dee, I often agree with you, but your opinion seemed pretty much prejudiced (in the pre-judge someone before you get to know them way).

You'd seem more balanced if you waited a few days and came up with pros and cons after you researched her record and listened to her. I still think most of us are in the getting to know her stage. Don't just go by Democrat party talking points (or Republican ones).

Who knows, I may dislike her after I find out more, but for now I'm keeping an open mind. I especially like her anti-corruption record. That's just what we need in Washington if we're going to get our government back in order.

  11. I don’t understand why the dems are so worried about Palin. They have so much to be proud of and confident in. ..a guy with less than a term of Senate experience, most of which spent on the campaign trail; a guy who probably never held a gun in his life, yet who would command the greatest armed forces in the world; a guy who left wreckage behind him in the community he “organized” in Illinois; a guy who associated with terrorists; a guy who attended a racially divisive church for over 20 years; a guy who believes in sucking the brains out of a living baby if the mother decides she doesn’t want it for whatever reason;

    but

    who gives a good speech.

  12. The article linked under your DNC talking points is quite biased. The pic of the polar bear with the photo chopped tongue is a bit hilarious though. Just maybe Governor Palin is correct, now wouldn't that be grand!

We all have to watch the environmental groups, especially when they have 'other than' motives behind what they do, and we all know what that is...$$$$$$$. Many reports I have read say the polar bears are doing just fine and that they have actually lived and survived in tougher times.

Is the Polar Bear Endangered, or Just Conveniently
    Charismatic?

    CONCLUSION:
At present, polar bear populations are robust and,
according to native people, are considerably larger than
they were in previous decades.29 Predictions of polar
bear endangerment are based on two sets of computer
models: one set predicts how much Arctic sea ice will
melt as a result of global warming, and the other predicts
how polar bear populations will respond. But computer
models of climate are known to be fraught with
problems, and the ecological models used to predict
polar bear response are equally limited.
Because of extreme limitations in data, it is essentially
impossible to decide whether polar bears are endangered
and whether their habitat is threatened by man-made
global warming or other natural climate cycles. This is
acknowledged by the experts themselves—the actual
IUCN/SSC report is more broad in naming causes and
more conservative about estimating their effects.
What we do know about polar bears is that, contrary
to media portrayals, they are not fragile “canary in the
coal mine” animals, but are robust creatures that have
survived past periods of extensive deglaciation. Polar
bear fossils have been dated to over one hundred
thousand years, which means that polar bears have
already survived an interglacial period when temperatures
were considerably warmer than they are at present
and when, quite probably, levels of summertime Arctic
    sea ice were correspondingly low.30

  16. Arizonian,
I said I oppose Abortion for myself. I never even considered it. I am proud to say I raised two very fine sons.

I looked at the pictures before. However, I cannot make choices for other women. They each have to make their own choices based on their own circumstances.

I do know two women who had abortions in their youths. They were very troubled women at the time. The vast majority of women who undergo this procedure are not married. Unlike men who walk away, they cannot walk away. They have to make a decision based on what is happening to their lives, what they can or cannot do to support the child, and on and on. You as a man do not know what happens to a woman and the amount of time and responsibility it takes as a woman. You cannot say men do not walk away. Perhaps if we had laws saying if you have sex with a woman you are committing to a lifetime of responsibility and accountability, not just child support IF you catch them.

The article is from the Anchorage Daily News, their main newspaper. The link to the phone call was the actual recorded phone call where her right hand man hounded the local cops to hang her ex brother in law. Then she fired the guy who didnt fire her brother in law. 20. Where is Liquid’s logic here?

War is also a tool for population control. So, if Dee chastises Tanton for one version of population control, then in fact, it seems she agrees with all of his teachings. Maybe after all, Dee might be the Tanton Puppet.

    If… then, in fact… it seems… maybe… might

Pretty definite conclusion, for so many probabilities.

War as population control?? I guess in the end it may be, however in the beginning it is not.

Wasn't it your post in re-writing my post where you came up with the "If… then, in fact… it seems… maybe… might", probabilities?

  22. "Hillary is a brilliant diplomat, well experienced in foreign policy..."

My how easily one can acquire credentials as a brilliant diplomat. Hill has never served as an ambassador, never been a member of the cabinet, and never worked in the State Department. She has made a few junkets to various countries for minor purposes, a little like reporters on the society or home and garden beats -- that's all. The quote above is a gross exaggeration like those foreign relations credentials Obama acquired in his brief stops in several countries.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Hillary is an excellent, knowledgable speaker and holds her own in the toughest debates. We know nothing about Palins debate style."

Since Hill is out of the picture I fail to see the point of these pre-judgments. We do know that Palin is a tough competitor with higher ethical standards than the Clintons ever had. I suspect she is a quick study and a lot more than a pretty face. She is the VP candidate, not Hillary.

I suppose we will hear that she is only a heartbeat away from the presidency. That margin might be more than Obama's margin since he is potentially only an election away from the presidency with equally unimpressive foreign policy credentials. That is why he picked Joe "Motormouth" Biden isn't it? Because he knew as we all do that a few visits to foreign countries does not a foreign policy expert make.

  24. "scandal soaked, former Beauty Queen..."

Sounds like a kind of catty remark to me. The question is what would Dee have done in Palin's position? I guess she would just ignore the plight of her sister and make no effort to get this miscreant husband off the payroll. It's unfortunate that unions sometimes of often feel impelled to support members even though they are not the kind of people who deserve such support. I hope there will be more governors who will take a principled stand against such miscreant officers and do what they can to get rid of them.

  25. Whether Hillary's supporters will I think the last of these categories will see her as a very successful woman executive with guts, perserverance, resilience and tenacity. I think they will see a woman who if called upon will rise to the challenge and perform magnificently, at least as well as Obama, Mc Cain or Biden.

It really wouldn't make any difference to Dee if Rice was the VP nominee. She would be railing about Rice's connection with the Bush Administration and would have nothing positive to say about the superiority of her foreign policy credentials over those of either Hill or Nobama.

  26. '"Palin is wrong on Pro Choice, Wrong on Gun Control, Wrong on Gay Rights, Wrong on Equal Pay for Equal Work, Wrong on Global Warming"

My what a heavy indictment when we don't even know her yet. It's interesting on the first item how easily without any qualms of conscience Dee ignores the teachings of her church. Shouldn't she be ex-communicated?

Dee who often touts the 14th amendment seems ready to abandon the 2nd if that serves her purpose.

Arizona has the right position on gay rights.

Equal pay for equal work is not that simple. Where is the experience factor? Where is the longevity factor? Where is the seniority factor? Where is the recognition that most women do work that is different from that done by men. Having written that, I believe in equal pay for equal work, ceteris paribus.

  38. The news media is coming around to the conclusion that McCain's choice of Sarah Palin was NOT to try and get Hillary voters. It was to solidify his base (checkmark) and to reach those blue collar voters in toss up states who voted for Hillary because she related to their real world, as opposed to elite, life (checkmark). I heard that on CNN and now while I'm listening to George Stephanopolis this morning.

Sarah Palin would NEVER attract NARAL Hillary voters nor would she attract any died in the wool democrat such as Dee.

And, Sarah Palin will hopefully attract many of those Reagan democrats who are fiscally conservative and who are tired of government corruption and waste. This is critical for McCain and a big risk.

I like what I see in Sarah Palin except I do have concern for her lack of foreign policy experience. It would be a lie if I said otherwise. However, I have the same concern for Barack Obama's lack of foreign policy experience and I wouldn't vote for him any more than Dee would vote for McCain.

Palin is NOT a slap in the face to Hillary supporters. She was chosen to appeal to social and economic conservatives as well as those regular Joe Independents.

Undecideds Don't Like The Palin Pick
    30 Aug 2008 08:34 pm

The headlines are about the broad polling reaction to Palin. But the most fascinating part of the first Rasmussen poll on the matter is how those who are currently undecided in the election feel. They, after all, are the votes both campaigns are trying to win over with their veep picks. The key data is in the cross-tabs, which have been missed in some of the coverage so far.

On the critical question, "With Palin As Vice-Presidential Nominee, Are You More Or Less Likely To Vote For McCain," there's a striking result. Among those already for McCain, 68 percent say it makes them more likely to vote for him; only 6 percent say less; and 23 percent said no impact. Among those already for Obama, Palin made only 9 percent of them more likely to switch to McCain, 59 percent less likely, and 30 percent said it would make no difference.

But among the critical undecideds, the Palin pick made only 6 percent more likely to vote for McCain; and it made 31 percent less likely to vote for him. 49 percent said it would have no impact, and 15 percent remained unsure. More to the point: among undecideds, 59 percent said Palin was unready to be president. Only 6 percent said she was. If the first criterion for any job is whether you're ready for it, this is a pretty major indictment of the first act of McCain's presidential leadership.
