Sarah, the Word is Caricature! The Palin Couric Interview

Here is the transcript of the Palin-Couric Interview. We can see why McCain-Palin are doing everything possible to avoid the VP debates, including suspending the campaign.
COURIC: You've cited Alaska's proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?
PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land-- boundary that we have with-- Canada. It-- it's funny that a comment like that was-- kind of made to-- cari-- I don't know, you know? Reporters--
COURIC: Mock?
PALIN: Yeah, mocked, I guess that's the word, yeah.
COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.
PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our-- our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia--
COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?
PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We-- we do-- it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where-- where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is-- from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to-- to our state.

  1. All of the English Only proponents should be angry at McCain´s VP choice. She does not speak English properly. She is frequently grammarically incorrect. She uses excessive slang (e.g. excessive use of the word "yeah", "guy", "kind of", etc.) To think she could possibly be our Next President is not only embarrassing but scary.

  2. With her type of grammar, she would not qualify as a reporter, in most Businesses, and few restaurants.

  3. And possibly a very good one!
I know Britney´s mom likes her!

  4. It is isn't English ONLY it is English as our official langauge. Many countries have an official langauge. Do they expect every single one of their citizens to speak that language with perfection? Of course not, what a lame argument against having an official langauge!

  5. As far as I am concerned, Sarah Palin kicked Katie Couric's ass. She was sharp with her answers and they were her views. Couric tried to take it to Palin and ended up looking like an idiot.

No, but the head of the country should be a grammatically correct as possible, with proper use of slang. I agree, how embarrassing and scary.

  7. anon, I agree that those in high office should be able to speak our language proficiently but I think it petty to pick on every grammatical error. It still is no excuse not to have an official language just because everyone doesn't speak it perfectly. There are highly educated people in every country and those who are not and it should have nothing to do with allowing a country to have an official language.

  8. Anyone who represents the country should be able to communicate effectively. But that's a separate issue from whether everyone in a country should speak and write the language perfectly in order for that country to have an official language.

That assertion is simply preposterous as no country in the world could meet that standard, certainly none from South of the border. Many of the folks coming here from that area are illiterate in their own language and yet their country(ies) all have their official language. So let's just dispense with that specious argument once and for all.

  9. Wow, seems like Rick Davis has a bank of computers sending out posts. These identical words appear on a number of sites. "As far as I am concerned, Sarah Palin kicked Katie Couric's ass. She was sharp with her answers and they were her views. Couric tried to take it to Palin and ended up looking like an idiot."

  10. Anon,
I think you are right. I did a google search and these same exact words were copied on many blogs writing about the palin couric interview.
Here, they used the screenname Babel in Brunswick.
On Jossip, they used the screenname SteveJJ.

  11. I haven't changed my position on Palin. I think she was a bad choice but I don't like all the hateful rhetoric being spewed about her by the Dems and their followers.

  12. Pat,
I am not spewing anything. I merelly posted the video and her verbatims.

  13. Did I mention you specifically, dee? However, in many of your topics on Palin you have demonized her. There is no point it denying in what you yourself have written about her.

  14. Hateful rhetoric, patriot? What do you expect? It's nothing personal to Palin, but she's a VP candidate! She's a "heart beat away". It's hard to watch her speak, grammar errors and slang aside, more so because she doesn't know what she SHOULD know. She's got a lotta cramming to do before Oct 2, if she even lasts that long. We've had 8 years of Bush, and she didn't even know what the Bush Doctrine was! There are many republicans even that concede that the Iraq war was a mistake, and she gets on ABC news with Charlie Gibson, and basically says that George Bush did an excellent job! Just how did you expect people to react to her, patriot? Or do you think we shouldn't be so mean to a woman?

  15. No, it has nothing to do with her being a woman. She was called trailer trash in here and even accused of lying about her own son's birth. She was accused of it being her daughters and not hers to pull off some insurance fraud scheme. Her morality and ability as a parent were even questioned just because her daughter got pregnant at 17. Those are the things that I am talking about that go beyond criticizing her grammar. Her personal life was attacked and that is the hateful rhetoric that I am talking about. I guess when that didn't work, those who opposed her started in on her grammar then and that is petty IMO.

I think she is a bad VP choice but to stoop so low as to go on the personal attack and pick on petty grammar errors is just plain childish and uncalled for.

My reasons for opposing her is strictly based on her lack of experience especaily with foreign policy and she just doesn't come across well to me in interviews, etc. I would question her ability to lead this country if McCain died during his presidency.

  16. Well, on that regard, I totally agree, patriot. IMO, there's so much to not like about her as a VP candidate without having to attack her personal life and views.

  17. Patriot,
You are my hero. You are so right. We should elect Palin as president. She is so smart. She is smarter than McCain. We need to get a real person in as president. Who cares what anyone thinks. I live in a trailer too. Do you? What matters is we get a new president that is smart as us and thinks like us. Go patriot!

    ReplyDelete
  18. anon, what are you talking about? I said Palin was a poor choice for VP, so why would I want her as president?

No, I don't live in a trailer and even though Palin was accused of being trailer trash, I don't think she does either being govenor of Alaska and all. I don't think she has a trailer trash mentality either but she is not VP or presidential material IMO.
