Another "Walking While Brown" Hate Crime Murder in New York!

Another "Walking While Brown" Hate Crime Murder happened in New York last Sunday and the poor victim, a young Businessman, died today. Four thugs went "Beaner Jumping" yelling anti-Latino, anti-gay slurs at him as they beat him with beer bottles and a baseball bat. The ANTI Immigration, ANTI Latino HATE Crimes and Attacks MUST STOP!!!
May Jose Sucuzhanay rest in Peace.
Tuesday, December 9th 2008, 12:50 AM
An Ecuadorean immigrant died today, two days after four thugs yelling anti-gay and racist slogans beat him to a pulp in an attack city cops and politicians declared a hate crime.
Jose Sucuzhañay, 31, clung to life at Elmhurst Hospital Center as the Hate Crimes Task Force combed the streets of Bushwick, Brooklyn, looking for the suspects. "He's always been a fighter," Sucuzhañay's younger brother, Diego, said last night, expressing hope his brother, one of 11 siblings, would pull through.
Sucuzhañay was walking arm and arm with his brother Romel Sunday morning near their home on Kossuth Place, officials said. An SUV drove past packed with thugs. One passenger yelled anti-gay remarks, officials said. The driver yelled, "f-ing Spanish," said a police source. The men in the SUV, described as African-American, then chased the pair. One clubbed Romel with a beer bottle while the others beat Jose with a bat.
Romel Sucuzhañay managed to escape and Jose Sucuzhañay "was left for dead," said an angry City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. His bloodied brother returned to the chaos, clutching his cell phone, telling the attackers that he had just phoned 911. The attack pack then sped off. People who know Sucuzhañay were shaken at the brutal attack. "He is a peaceful person," said Julia Osman, who works as a listing agent at Sucuzhañay's real estate agency in Bushwick. "He wouldn't hurt a fly. We don't know why it happened." Ramona Estavez, 40, said Jose Sucuzhañay was the landlord at her Ridgewood, Queens, home and treated his tenants kindly. "He was a good person," she said. The attack came less than three weeks after seven Long Island teenagers were charged in the fatal stabbing of another immigrant from Ecuador.

  1. AZ,
    You are missing it.
The volatile and contemptuous rhetoric surrounding this Immigration (legal and illegal) debate has created an environment that incites HATE thereby reactions by certain HATE Groups who are conducting these "Beaner Jumpings." That is WHY we are seeing such an increase in LATINO Hate Crimes!!

  2. Most Americans do not have a problem with legal immigration, so why even mention that?

So if we didn't debate illegal immigration, those who hate illegal immigrants would no longer do so? How else are we to resolve this situation in our country unless it is debated and talked about? What are we to do, just ignore the situation and then all the hate crimes will just go away?

There will always be hate crimes against every ethnic group by certain individuals. This has been human behavior since our creation.

  3. We should NEVER tolerate HATE Crimes. Never! We have to talk about it! We have to make sure the perpetrators are punished to the fullest extent of the law. I believe these crimes have been happening for some time as a result of all of the racist rhetoric and increase in Hate Groups. We have to stop and say this is not acceptable! These criminals have to go to prison! Be punished! Be displayed in every news forum!! The HATE has to stop!!

  4. Thanks Dee for wonderful website and Ethics Issues.

This is incredible ! ... Two Latinos have been brutally killed in New York City in less than a month :

Jose Sucuzhanay and Marcelo Lucero in Long Island, New York City.

Add these to the brutal beating and kicking that took the life of Luis Ramirez in Shenandoah Pennsylvania last July.

These Brutal Murders are repugnant. The special Cruelty, Sadism and Inhumanity. The victims were all hard working, peaceful, honest and nice people.

I would consider all these attackers as perfect Terrorists and Cowards.

I have a blog to denounce Racial Murders and Racial Hatred. And to profile the good things of the Victims and their Poor families :

  8. I also suspect there are many more than are reported. So many are afraid to report these crimes. Additionally, until lately, the news media has not reported these crimes.

  9. I would be willing to bet that there are even less crimes reported when it is a minority on white crime. Not PC, I guess.

  10. Just two years ago, the hate crimes against Whites were much higher than for Hispanics. How much concern was there for that and how much reporting was done on those hate crimes? Not much, I am sure.

7,722 hate-crime incidents were reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2006 -- an 8% increase from 2005.

    2,640 were anti-black (up from 2,630 in 2005).

    967 were anti-Jewish (up from 848 in 2005).

    890 were anti-white (up from 828 in 2005).

    747 were anti-male homosexual (up from 621 in 2005).

    576 were anti-Hispanic (up from 522 in 2005).

    156 were anti-Islamic (up from 128 in 2005).

    163 were anti-female homosexual (up from 155 in 2005).

  11. I agree that brutal crimes on a white person should be reported, specially when there might be a "hate" element like when the New York Rabbi was killed in Mumbai, this is Ethnic or Nationalistic hate, perhaps religious hate. Or the Twin Towers of New York City. I think that September 11 hate was more religious fanatism than skin color.

The killing of Matthew Shepard had a horrible element of hate against gays, and recalled the Crucifixion of Jesus. It was not racial but it was heinous.

It may be that a white person is killed by a gang of blacks or latinos or others anywhere in the World.

Should it be reported or deserve our attention. Of course !

But when we are reporting lots of hate, murder, terrorism, of many different sorts then it could be necessary to have several websites and not only one.

Robbery Murder ?? .. Money Related ?? Sexual Passion ?? ... Religion or National Revenge ?? ... Ethnic Cleansing ???

    We have to consider that.

That is why I am studying to see how to proceed. For the moment I make a mix here :

  13. You know I am not trying to play down the terribleness of hate crimes but when you take into account that in 2006 there were only 7,722 hate crimes committed in a population of nearlly 300 million peopele, that isn't that much. I am sure that crimes such as murder, rape that were not racially motivated are much higher numbers. Also, gang related crimes are at an all time high in our country.

  14. All crime is wrong. Hate crimes are particularly heinous and they are on the rise, as are Hate Groups. Many of these crimes are underreported due to fear. If I can help reduce them by bringing attention to them until the perpetrators are brought to justice, I will continue to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How about reporting crimes against other races in here then?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Posting crimes about other races and not just Hispanics would show that you care about the hate crimes against all humans and not just your own ethnic group. As per the stats that I posted, Blacks are the largest group targeted for hate crimes and Whites were more targeted than Hispanics in 2006.

  17. I can't believe it. So disturbing. Jose was double-guilty: he appeared hispanic and gay. I guess for that crime he deserved death.

Some commentors have been saying Dee should report all crimes on this blog. Why would Dee do that, on a blog specifically about immigration? The only reason to suggest that, on a blog specifically about immigration from the perspective of a latina person, would be to try and downplay crimes against immigrants and latinos.

Super classy, using the murder of an immigrant to bellow "what about the poor whitez??" That's right, because if on a blog about immigrants whites aren't the main topic, whites are discriminated against!!!

    I'm being facetious.

  20. I want to point out several impressions :

    1) These three murders of Latinos : Luis Ramirez, Marcelo Lucero, and Jose Osvaldo Sucuzhanay seem to come straight from the Clockwork Orange, Dee was the first to note this and I have been studying this Orange Movie.

2)The authorities of New York have been complacent, tolerant and ineffective against this wave of hate that started in year 2000. There are dozens if not hundreds of reports of beatings, kickings, stabbings and insults against Latinos and most went unreported. Most have not ended in Murder. The Police, Authorities and Judges did nothing and sinned by omission if not by sympathy.

    3) There has been "Ethnic Cleansing" in America as millions of Mexican-Americans of several generations born in the U.S. were kicked out to Mexico during the 1930s.

If you want more studies of the Clockwork Orange, and the Ethnic Cleansing then you can go to my site :

  21. Vicente,
There is something about the Clockwork Orange theory. That is the Young, racist brainwashed by hate groups and bored, attacking the new group to hate, Latinos.
There was another case of this in California this week. In this case, "Three Mountain View teenagers are in custody on hate crime and other charges after allegedly shouting racial epithets and threatening to kill four 11-year-old Latino boys on Mercy Street." No deaths this time, but it is the same type of crime.

It is my belief that the Hate Groups (NSM/neo-nazi) and KKK-(skinheads) have ramped up their recruiting efforts on the internet and targetting young people to hate "Mexicans" they view as illegals and recommending "Beaner Jumping."

  22. I don’t have the words I need right now to express my grief, outrage and sorrow over the brutal murder of Jose Sucuzhañay. Like Marcelo Lucero, Mr. Sucuzhañay was from Ecuador. These killings of innocent men are having international repercussions as people the world over question what it is about our American culture that tolerates and gives rise to such horrific violence. During the funeral for Mr. Lucero in his hometown in Ecuador, the Rev. Jorge Moreno described Mr. Lucero’s death as “the product of a feeling of xenophobia that makes some people believe they are worth more than others.” Ecuador’s ambassador to the United States, Luis Gallegos, called it a lynching. This is the xenophobia that gets displayed on this blog day after day (ANTIs). It is no different from the xenophobia that was displayed towards earlier groups of immigrants to the United States. In the wake of The Immigration Act of 1924, there were massive raids and deportations of Italians and Jews from Southern and Eastern Europe. As Yave writes in his blog on the history of immigration:

“The laws put in place in response to the Ellis Island period helped to ensure that hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees fleeing from German persecution before and during World War Two did not enter the U.S., instead meeting their deaths in the gas chambers.”

Many immigrants who come to the United States are fleeing violence. It is true that some come here for economic reasons…but they are fleeing a different kind of violence: the violence of U.S. trade policies that throw them off the land, depriving them of the basic means to make a living – policies that lead to hunger and desperation. How cruel and ironic that when they finally arrive in the “land of the free,” they are often met with the most vicious and hateful xenophobia that often escalates into further violence. Dear Antis, please take note: Hateful words often have hateful consequences. You may think you can rationalize it or sweep it under the rug, but the whole world is watching. Enough is enough!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am also troubled by the fact that the attack may have been motivated by homophobia. Some of the most courageous people I know are gay. When I think of them, I'm reminded of the saying by ee cummings:

"To be nobody but yourself in a world that's doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting." -ee cummings

  25. This could explain the rise in hate crimes in America. Multiculterism combined with an illegal invasion is a recipe for disaster.

"We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon ---- all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

  26. U.S. House members seek tougher hate crime law - House Judiciary Committee wants Tough Legislation

    From NewsDay.com :

    http://www.newsday.com/news/local/suffolk/ny-ushate115960440dec11,0,4640487.story

"In the wake of alleged hate crimes in Patchogue and Brooklyn, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said yesterday he would push for tough legislation in the next Congress targeting ethnic and racially motivated violence."

Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) said attacks against Marcelo Lucero in Patchogue and Jose Sucuzhanay in Brooklyn - both of Ecuadorean descent - underscore "the threat still faced by some in our society." Attackers also reportedly made anti-gay remarks at Sucuzhanay as he walked home arm-in-arm with his brother.

Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) joined Conyers in the call for elected officials to seek out the root causes of ethnic and racially motivated violence.

"When hatred is allowed to build and fester, it eventually finds its way onto our streets," Bishop said. He added that the attack in Brooklyn early Sunday "demonstrates that hatred is not just limited to one community and that it will require a sustained, united effort to combat."

I am studying the Complacency of the Authorities and Police, the similarities with the Clockwork Orange Movie, and the legal matters.

Only repression and tougher laws can put the thugs in jail. Otherwise Clockwork Oranges everywhere.

  29. Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton co-sponsored the Matthew Shepard Hate Crime Act, which passed the House in May 2007 and the Senate in September of 2007. The White House threatened to veto the bill and everything stopped.

The bill passed the Senate on September 27, 2007, as an amendment to the Defense Reauthorization bill. President Bush indicated he might veto the DoD authorization bill if it reached his desk with the hate crimes legislation attached.

Ultimately, the amendment was dropped by the Democratic leadership because of opposition from antiwar Democrats, conservative groups, and President George W. Bush. However, Barack Obama's website outlining the goals of his new administration cites passing the Act as a priority.

So nothing has been achieved ! ... The Republican Religious Extreme Right does not want the Act because they want to continue railing and ranting against Homosexuals.

In Harris County, Texas, in June 2008, a Grand Jury absolved a man that shot two latino detainees ( in custody in a farm ) on their backs, both were murdered. There is a 911 recording, telling that he is going to kill them because that is his right under Texas laws.

  32. Duque suggests " ...repression and tougher laws can put the thugs in jail."

I wonder what he thinks is necessary to secure our borders, apprehend the illegals already here and repatriated them as quickly and humanely as possible at their own expense, and assure that they never return without proper authorization.

Dee feels that apprehension and detention are inhumane but has no suggestions on how this job might be done in any other way. Perhaps if this problem was solved first, it would lessen the number of hate crimes but without excusing those that do occur or have occurred.

    What do you think Duque?

    ReplyDelete
  33. While one can subscribe to the punishment of those who commit violence against others, this does not solve the basic problem of illegal aliens. The only way that can be solved is if all American citizens band together to insist that their government apprehend, detain, and repatriate illegal aliens and their minor progeny, regardless of citizenship.
If such a policy were to be implemented and widely publicized, any problem other than the normal level of violence would disapppear. So one has to wonder whether the anti-America crowd is really interested in solving the problem? Apparently not. They prefer to shoot the messenger.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mr. Ultima,

Don't look for any of the pro-illegals in here to agree to enforcing our immigration laws. They want hate crimes to stop against Latinos but they nor the illegals want to have to adhere to our immigration laws which as you pointed out would go a long ways in decreasing them. All they want is amnesty for these illegals and that will actually fuel more hate crimes against their ethnic group out of resentment for rewarding them for breaking our laws.

In short, they want their cake and to eat it too. Its not going to happen, nor should it.

  37. Remarks of Senator Barack Obama to the National Council of La Raza
    Miami, FL | July 22, 2007

    Some excerpts :

"But the American people also know that we are a nation of immigrants - a nation that has always been willing to give weary travelers from around the world the chance to come here and reach for the dream that so many of us have reached for. That's the America that answered my father's letters and his prayers and brought him here from Kenya so long ago. That's the America we believe in.

But that's the America that the President and too many Republicans walked away from when the politics got tough. Now, there are plenty of people opposed to immigration reform for principled reasons that I happen to disagree with. But this time around, we saw parts of the immigration debate took a turn that was both ugly and racist in a way we haven't seen since the struggle for civil rights.

Well we didn't walk away from injustice then and we won't walk away from it today. I'll keep fighting, and I'll keep attending immigration rallies, and I'll keep believing that we can have a civil debate about immigration where we begin to recognize ourselves in one another. And when I'm President, I will put comprehensive immigration reform back on the nation's agenda and I will not rest until it is passed once and for all.

But you and I know that the struggle we share goes far beyond immigration. We don't expect our government to guarantee success and happiness, but when millions of children start the race of life so far behind only because of race, only because of class, that's a betrayal of our ideals. That's not just a Latino problem or an African-American problem; that is an American problem that we have to solve."

"But this time around, we saw parts of the immigration debate took a turn that was both ugly and racist in a way we haven't seen since the struggle for civil rights."

Here is where Obama goes wrong. Our government allowed the problem of illegal immigration to fester for decades and did nothing to secure our borders and deport illegal aliens. They allowed our tax cofers to be emptied for services for illegal aliens. Many states are going bankrupt and Americans are losing their jobs to cheap labor and he wonders by the debate turned ugly? He is wrong to claim racism. Racism hasn't a damned thing to do with it. Hispanics are a big target only because they make the huge majority of illegal aliens in our country. Americans can't tell which of that ethnic group are in our country legally or illegally because the legals are sticking up for the illegal ones. What does Obama expect? The thing is that hate against Latinos or any other ethnic group you will only find in the fringe groups or individuals. Latinos wishing to push their CIR agenda are the most guilty of bringing these non typicial crimes to light. Not that they should be downplayed or overlooked but they must be kept in perspective that they don't represent the majority's actions.

I do admit however that since illegal immigration has grown to monstrous proportions and most of them are Latinos and Latino citizens are taking sides with them that it has fueled the feelings of animosity towards to the Latino population in this country. Is that a surprise based on the above?
