The Republicans are LYING again! They are calling "Reconciliation" the "Nuclear Option." Sen. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) and other republicans refer to the use of the reconciliation process as "an unprecedented power grab," and the "politics" of Hugo Chavez. They are using these terms to scare the American Public and demonize the passing of Healthcare Reform. These Republicans are puppets for the Healthcare Industry.
Sen. Gregg has a short memory. He forgets that the Republicans have used Reconciliation 13 times. Examples include: They used it in 2001 and 2003 to pass the GIANT Bush Tax Cuts (especially to the rich/big business which has led us into our current economic tsunami!). They used it again in 2005 to permit oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
In fact, Sen. Gregg spoke on the floor of the Senate in 2005 to support the use of Reconciliation by the Republicans. He said it was "in the Senate Rules" and it was fine for "Majority to Rule." He said, “The president asked for it, and we’re trying to do what the president asked for.”
If the President and the Democrats decide to use Budget Reconciliation, they need only 51 Votes. There are 58 Senators. This is good news for the American People. Healthcare Reform can pass afterall. The Republicans who are long time supporters of the Healthcare Lobby and the party of NO do not even have to participate.
Are you saying it's time for tit-for-tat, or admitting that the Dems are no better than the Rep's?
ReplyDeleteWatching the Healthcare Summit right now. Sen Alexander (R) Tenn is talking.
ReplyDeleteAlexander: We need to scrap the bill and start from scratch.
What is wrong with these Repubs!
As George Lopez would say, "'Ta Loco!"
High on the Republican agenda is Tort Reform. They want to stop our ability to sue doctors; they want to change the malpractice lawsuit system.
ReplyDeleteWhen talking about the Massive Profits of the Healthcare Industry, Alexander said, "Their profits only account for 2 days of the costs of Healthcare for our country. Whatcha goin to do for the other 363 days." These Republicans are in the pockets of the Healthcare Industry.
Healthcare Summit quotes:
ReplyDelete1,000 people a week DIE in America because they don't have healthcare.
Senior Citizens Cannot Afford Drugs.
People/Babies are being denied healthcare for "pre-existing conditions."
Healthcare Summit quotes:
ReplyDeleteMake Healthcare Companies more accountable.
Stop their ability to DENY insurance for "pre-existing conditions."
"1,000 people a week DIE in America because they don't have healthcare.
ReplyDeleteSenior Citizens Cannot Afford Drugs.
People/Babies are being denied healthcare for "pre-existing conditions."
No, Dee more of your lies. People are not denied emergency healthcare so no they don't die because they lack healthcare. If they choose not to go to the hospital and die because of that then its their own fault.
"Some" seniors take a dozen medicatations and their costs rise above what is covered by Medicare. Most seniors medications are covered with only a small co-pay and it is affordable.
No, insurance companies can deny coverage for pre-existing conditions but anyone with a chronic illness can get care at the hospital and won't be denied care.

Notes from the Trail
by Juan Rodriguez
We are four students from Florida – Felipe Matos, Gaby Pacheco, Carlos Roa, and Juan Rodriguez – who were brought to the United States by our families when we were young. This is the only country we have known as home. We have the same hopes and dreams as other young people, and have worked hard to excel in school and contribute to our communities. But because of our immigration status, we’ve spent our childhoods in fear and hiding, unable to achieve our full potential. We walk in order to share our stories and to call on our leaders to fix the system that forces people like us into the shadows, stripping us of the opportunity to participate meaningfully in society.

Notes from the Trail - Contradictions
http://www.trail2010.org/blog/2010/feb/20/contradictions/
Some excerpts :
Today we drove to Nahunta, GA where the Ku Klux Klan was organizing an anti-immigrant demostration, under the premise that “God put each race in their respective continent and they were meant to stay there. “ I can’t help but keep being amused by these concepts that the very organization can’t seem to be able to uphold appropriately. Is the KKK secretly on a campaign to reclaim all lands back for the indigenous people of North America and preparing for the voyage back to Europe? I find this highly unlikely.
It is disappointing that after so many years of social reformation, we still have organizations filled with so much hate convening and gaining the support of communities. When will people actually listen to BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY. I was there too! Hello!? Anybody willing to listen to MY story? I promise I won’t try to convince you of something as obviously absurd as “immigrants are the cause of unemployment and global warming.” How did we do that? With JalapeƱo peppers? I’m very confused about this.
Ultimately, the success of today was to be able to stand hand in hand with our friends from the NAACP; singing liberation songs together and acknowledging our united struggle for racial justice. We ALL deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We all deserve to be acknowledged for our humanity.

Anon,
ReplyDeleteWrong again!
These are NOT my quotes. As I said earlier, these are QUOTES from the Healthcare Summit today.
The FACTS are the FACTS.
You cannot dispute them!
Also, stop sending so many comments...especially all of them with name calling! I am NOT going to post them.
Why don't you go over to alipac. They like you there.
Charlie Rangel quote:
ReplyDeletetoday we understand that we all agree on at least 70% of the Healthcare bill.
So it is ridiculous to even suggest to start over.
why can't we take what we agree and say so.
let's leave here and at least say what we agree on.
Healthcare summit quotes:
ReplyDeleteThe American Public wants action taken on healthcare.
Reconciliation is simply Majority Rule. Majority Rules are within the rule of the Senate.
What the American People actually say is, they want action, not inaction.
Disallow rejections for pre-existing conditions.
We agree on 70% of the Healthcare bill. Let's walk away from the table saying so.
Here are 2 good links for you.

You seem to only be putting up the (D) talking points, which really do nothing more than show you can't think for yourself.
If we do nothing premiums are going to go up, simply because, as Wellpoint is demonstrating so well, they can and will charge whatever the market will bear and have no conscience about it, all the time eliminating from coverage anyone who will cost them money. The insurance companies have no vested interest in containing their own costs, it's only profit they are after. Bigger and bigger profit.
ReplyDeleteLiquid,
ReplyDeleteI am ok with both of your links. Anyone who reads them sees that the Democrats, for the most part, are accurate. It is the Republicans that are attempting to mislead the American Public.
Glad for your reaffirmation!
Anyone who reads them sees that the Democrats, for the most part, are accurate. It is the Republicans that are attempting to mislead the American Public.
ReplyDeleteHow are the (R)'s attempting to "mislead" the American Public? I see it as the Progressive (D)'s attempting to mislead the American Public. To quote the "fact check".
the Kaiser survey cited by Reid was hardly a cheer for what Democrats have come up with so far, although there was no telling that from his remarks. Less than one-third wanted Congress to send Obama a final version of the legislation approved by the House and Senate.
More than 40 percent wanted Washington to put health care on hold or pull the plug. Overall, people were split 43-43 for or against health care legislation. That's in keeping with other surveys that have found Americans evenly divided or leaning against Obama's effort, even while wanting something done about the system.
None of the "facts" point to pushing the Congress HCR through, in "fact" the above specifically wants a different version brought forward, a "new start", if you will.
We have health care. This isn't the jungles of the Amazon.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, people are confusing health care with health insurance.
What scares me is how many times this bill says 'taxes' and 'fees', and yet the words 'doctor' or 'patient' aren't listed once in the whole bill.
What kind of reform is this?
And to say that "well the Repblicans did it thirteen times means we can do it" makes it no better than the regime we just disembarked from.
Where's the change? Where's the hope? Where's the end of the war(s)?
Yes We Can (be duped).
