NY Times Reports: Governors around the country said Friday that they had received letters from an extremist group warning that they might be forcibly removed from office if they did not step down within three days. Officials from the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that they had sent out an intelligence note with information about potential threats to governors from a group calling itself the Guardians of the Free Republics. The note was sent to state police officials in the last few days. In a joint statement, the federal agencies said: “The F.B.I. and the Department of Homeland Security are not aware of any immediate or credible threats of violence as part of this group’s plan. Threat assessments are issued on a regular basis and out of an abundance of caution to inform our federal, state, local and tribal partners about possible threats to the homeland.”
It added that the agencies were “working with state and local authorities and continue to assess the matter.”
State officials said they were taking the threats seriously because they came at a time of increased attention to antigovernment groups.

In a federal indictment unsealed on Monday, nine members of a Christian militia group were accused of plotting an uprising against the federal government. The indictment said the group, based in Michigan, was planning to kill a local law enforcement officer and use explosive devices to attack police officers from around the country who would attend the funeral.
Federal officials said that at least 30 governors received the threatening letters this week. State officials in Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Utah and Virginia said they were examining the letters. Officials in several states said security for governors had been increased.
On its Web site, gotfr.com, the Guardians of the Free Republics sets forth a plan to “restore America.” It describes the plan as “a bold achievable strategy for behind-the-scenes peaceful reconstruction of the de jure institutions of government without controversy, violence or civil war.”
The federal government told state police officials that the group could provoke violence by others because its members “advocate for their views through the use, support or facilitation of violence or illegal conduct.”
About this militia group:
ReplyDeleteGuardians of the Free Republics is a Texas-based group that is regarded as a part of the sovereign citizen movement. The group has been linked to Sam Kennedy, a Texas talk-show host,[1] as well as to Clive Boustred, a British-born conspiracy theorist living in California.
Talk Show host Sam Kennedy is on Republic Broadcasting Network based out of Round Rock, Tx. It is well known to those who study extremism, as well as to the FBI. It's a rabble-rousing station that trafficks in conspiracy theories – part of a long-standing American tradition of underground radio.
ReplyDeleteRepublican Broadcasting Network is a satellite, shortwave, and Internet radio station that features 31 shows with names like "Cutting Through the Matrix," "Govern America," and "Road Warrior Radio." It has loose ties to the American Free Press newspaper, which is called "the most important newspaper of the radical right."
ReplyDeleteThe Republic Broadcasting Network? is not a Republican ran station. The American Free Press newspaper is a Libertarian rag, of which there are Libertarians of Liberal and Progressive to include Moderate and Conservative ideals. I would also direct you to look at the Libertarian Socialists as the backers of this militia group.
ReplyDeleteWhat? You mean you aren't going to falsely accuse them of being tea partiers, birthers or anti's? Is there hope for you yet? Maybe Easter Sunday made you beg forgiveness for your sins and to see the light? Let's hope so. Time will tell though, won't it?
ReplyDeleteMilitia group?
ReplyDeleteNow just where did you come up with that?
"It's a rabble-rousing station that trafficks in conspiracy theories – part of a long-standing American tradition of underground radio."
ReplyDeleteLet's hope you never hear Coast to Coast AM......
"It describes the plan as “a bold achievable strategy for behind-the-scenes peaceful reconstruction of the de jure institutions of government without controversy, violence or civil war.”
ReplyDeleteAnd what's so wrong about that?
"The federal government told state police officials that the group could provoke violence by others because its members “advocate for their views through the use, support or facilitation of violence or illegal conduct.”
Ok, so one group says it is for a peaceful, non-violent restructuring of the Fed, and the Fed says they are a violent group....
Sounds like the Fed is concerned that their frat party is getting shut down......
If this group provoke violence then the governors should be extra careful and how come the government is not doing anything against this group

One point he did not make is how illegal immigrants enrich the social security system by making automatic contributions without ever being able to receive any benefits.
About Tea Parties : "The number of fools is infinite" - "The Goddess Stupidity goes everyday to the palaces of the Gods and wastes their time"
ReplyDeleteWe live in times of "Glorification of Imbecility", otherwise Fox News would not have a big audience and top ratings.
So it is no surprise that there are fools, and even Blacks, Browns, "Colored", etc ... that attend Tea Parties.
The same Whites in Tea Parties are fools, and yes they are racists.
"Opponents have branded the Tea party as a group of racists hiding behind economic concerns - and report that some tea partiers were lobbing racist slurs at black congressmen"
Nowadays, Racism is more covert, hidden and hypocrite, there is Racism with masks of economic ideas ( very poor "economic ideas" indeed ) - Post-Racism and post-Raciality employ a lot of simulation and dissimulation, that is deception, deceit, disguise, fakery, misrepresentation.
These Tea Parties have a lot to do with frustration, failure, losers, unemployment, and in some cases with madmen filled with inferiority complexes and family dysfunctionality.
Those few people ( the dysfunctionals ) feel at home in an aggressive movement, apocalyptic and eschathological, filled with paranoia and hysteria.
Other members of Tea Parties are old people that feel defeated by the changes in America. They were raised in a very different world and want their America back. An America of "Elmer Gantry" or "The Great Gatsby", an America that no longer exists and won't return.
That America is "Gone with the Wind". Even if there are many people that believe that the South won the Civil War.

ReplyDeleteThey only way they would be able to do that is if they stole someone's Social Security number, a felony I might add.
AZ,
ReplyDeleteMaking up a number is NOT stealing an identity. If you look up the top 10 identity thieves, number 1 is "Family Member". Illegal Immigrants are NOT EVEN ON THE LIST!
Making up a SS number to be used for fraudulent purposes is still a crime, dee.
ReplyDeleteIt is NOT identity theft. It is a civil infraction.
