I can't expect certain people to understand what it's like to be racially profiled. And this is not about the race card, it's reality. I can count numerous occasions when I was profiled and stopped by police for nothing. I never got a ticket out of those occasions, but I was humiliated when I had to lay down in the street at gun point, or I had to keep my hands on the hood of my car while it was searched, and no arrest or citation was issued after the ordeal.
I'm a black, college grad who makes a six-figure income, and has never been in trouble with the law, nor who has ever worn clothing, or drove cars that fit the profile of a gang member, and I'VE BEEN PROFILED when it's supposed to be illegal!!
Now there's a law that gives any crooked cop the green light to profile someone and get away with it??
This is not China. Yes we have an illegal citizens problem. Yes the Feds are not doing their jobs to protect the border, BUT THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM!
Whites who make comments like get over it, or stop playing the race card are being disengenuous about this issue because they don't have to worry about getting stopped by that crooked cop.
Arizona has moved that much closer to a police state. SAD...

"First they came ..." is a famous statement attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group.
"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up."
Arizona can pass race base laws, pass Birthers laws and the state can continue to boycott Martin Luther King Day, well the rest of the Country can boycott the state of Arizona and spank them where it hurts them the most their pocket book. Their phony patriotism is sickening, they are just racists going by another name. We all know you are just itching to put a sheet on their head? Let’s face it the Republicans had eight years to deal with health care, immigration, climate change and financial oversight and governance and they failed. It appears that the Republican Party is only good at starting wars (two in eight years, with fat War profiteering contracts to friends of Cheney/Bush) but not at winning wars as seen by the continuing line of body bags that keep coming home. The Republicans party will continue turned inward to their old fashion obstructionist party (and their Confederacy appreciation roots) because they continue to allow a small portions (but very loud portion) of their party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” to rule their party. I will admit that this fringe is very good at playing “Follow the Leader” by listening to their dullard leaders, Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush, Savage, Sarah Bailin, Orly Taitz, Victoria Jackson, Michele Bachmann and the rest of the Blowhards and acting as ill programmed robots (they have already acted against doctors that perform abortions). The Birthers and the Tea party crowd think they can scare, intimidate and force others to go along with them by comments like “This time we came unarmed”, let me tell you something not all ex-military join the fringe militia crazies who don’t pay taxes and run around with face paint in the parks playing commando, the majority are mature and understand that the world is more complicated and grey than the black and white that these simpleton make it out to be and that my friend is the point. The world is complicated and people like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt believed that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now it’s about dancing around the claim of government is the problem. The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. For a party that gave us Abraham Lincoln, it is tragic that the ranks are filled with too many empty suits and the crazy Birthers who have not learned that the way our courts work is that you get a competent lawyer, verifiable facts and present them to a judge, if the facts are real and not half baked internet lies, then, and only then, do you proceed to trial. The Birthers seem to be having a problem with their so called “facts”. Let’s face it no one will take the Birthers seriously until they win a case, but until then, you will continue to appear dumb, crazy or racist, or maybe all three. I heard that Orly Taitz now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC), she wants to re-establish a family values party, that’s like saying that the Catholic Church cares about the welling being of children in their care, too late for that.
ReplyDeleteOne wonders, given the description of the circumstances and the individual involved, what could have moved an officer to stop and mistreat this man. I view this action with complete disgust and abhorrence.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that we need another law on the books that holds officers personally liable if they detain anyone without probable cause and without ever issuing even a ticket.
As I indicated in an earlier post both my son and I have been stopped, questioned, and asked to produce ID. No one likes to under suspicion when he or she has done nothing but apparently that is a price one has to pay for protection from the criminals in our midst. In my case, I apparently resembled a man who had just been involved in a domestic disturbance. I was just out for a walk after getting square eyeballs from watching too many bowl games.
I was not handcuffed or mistreated but in some sense I was profiled because the miscreant was a white male of about my age and build.
I agree the way M. Gray was treated is not the way to deal with this problem. I note that he had no suggestions on how we improve the effectiveness of our enforcement efforts without handcuffing or forcing people to lay on the ground. Some of that is probably required by the police procedures manual in the wake of the deaths of officers who allowed potential criminals to much latitude.
Thanks for the laughs, the Tea Party conservatives said nothing and did nothing while Bush and the Republican Congress were getting the country into deeper and deeper trouble. The conservatives who organize the Tea Party protests sat on their hands and did nothing. They did nothing when the balanced budget was destroyed by Bush, nothing when Bush exploded the deficit, nothing when Bush cut taxes instead of raising them to pay for the war he started. So honestly who cares what your small group says or wants your phony patriotism is sickening.
ReplyDeleteSurfing Boards for Republicans in Arizona : Big Economic Backlash and a Big Economic "Blowback" for those that promoted the Racial Profiling Law.
ReplyDeletePeople from India, Pakistan, South Asia, China, Indonesia, Latin America, Africa, Polynesia, Oceania, etc .. won't want to go to Arizona to make Business, or for Touristic, Vacation or Convention Reasons. Even Southern Europeans are in danger of being Racially Profiled and imprisoned, probably without Habeas Corpus ( which is the last fashion lately )
What is the purpose of going to Arizona to suffer humiliations ??
When Hawaii was an independent nation ( before the Americans arrived in full force ) the Hawaiian Crown Prince visited the United States and was kicked out of trains, and of many places for belonging to the "Lower Races", he was mistreated in the most racist form.
If you are not Milk White, a Viking of Blond Hair and Blue Eyes, then you should not go to Arizona for any purpose. "Virginia is for Lovers" but "Arizona is for Nordics, Anglo Saxons and Aryans".
For Medical Treatment, for Historical or Academic Research, For Fun, Go Elsewhere but avoid Arizona like the stench of a Dead Rat, like a corpse filled with worms.
This Arizona is a interesting but miserable chapter in my History Book of :
DeWesternization and DeWhitenization of the World.
This seems like the last kicks of a drowning man of Racism, Segregation, Apartheid and Hate.
And "colored people" and the "Lowest Races" should avoid buying products or services from Arizona. Only the Top Echelon of Evolution should consume products or services of that cursed land.
The mayor of Phoenix, the Cardinal of Los Angeles, the House Representative of Arizona called Raul Grijalva, Al Sharpton ( Super Important Black Leader ), the American Civic Liberties Union, all of them and many others feel repugnance and revulsion before this idiotic law that goes against the arrow of History.
And I am not counting the Big Super Tsunami of Latino Babies and Latino Voters that is going to sink Arizona in a few years. These Republicans will have to swim or surf that Big Wave.
Where are they surfing boards ??

Montana,
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the discussion.
I disagree with the Racial Profiling bill and I think the best way to respond is by a peaceful protest; A Boycott of their state and their businesses.
All Americans who disagree can Hit them in the pocketbooks.
We can also register to vote and then vote against their candidates and their party.
Ultima,
ReplyDeleteWe do have laws on the books for Racial Profiling and for Law Enforcement abusers. These masked goons are just not being charged or held accountable for their wrongdoings.
Ultima,
ReplyDeleteYou FAIL to understand Racial Profiling.
Racial Profiling begins with Law Enforcement (LE) holding an ethnic group or a race in contempt, then allowing their personal prejudices to influence them in their day to day job responsibilities.
MGray was racially profiled because he is Black. He was not stopped because he looked like anyone else. He was stopped because the LE allowed their personal prejudices against minorities to regulate their actions. They viewed MGray in contempt and in suspicion; therefore they stopped him, had him lay on the ground, searched and handcuffed him. Not once or twice, but many times. This happens frequently, every day, in minority neighborhoods. This is called Racial Profiling. Check the books. Racial Profiling towards Blacks and Latinos is rampant; but especially in Maricopa County.
If a minority complains about it, or even goes to the media, the corrupt police committing these racial profiling acts respond like arpaio did and say, "Just regular police work."
Then in the evenings, they smoke their cigars, Hardy Har Har, and drink their scotch.
What are ways to STOP Racial Profiling?
ReplyDeleteMy recommendation is to Bring National Attention to it, then a peaceful Boycott. Reporting it locally, escalating it, gaining local Mayors and Sheriff's support and reporting it to the DOJ/FBI, JUST DOESN'T WORK! The only way is a NATIONAL BOYCOTT and VOTING OUT THOSE IN POWER THAT ABUSE THEIR POWER!
I HOPE THE HISPANIC PEOPLE IN ARIZONA WAKE UP AND REGISTER TO VOTE,AND GET THE MONSTER (ARPAIO)OUT OF OFFICE.HE IS A POOR EXAMPLE FOR THE LAWENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY.VOTING HIM OUT WILL BE GREAT,BUT HISPANIC NEED TO UNITE.UNITY AND YOUR VOTE CAN ACCOMPLISH GREAT THING FOR THE HISPANICS IN ARIZONA GOOD LUCK
