Examples of Arrests with sb1070

Some of my readers have been writing me about specific aspects of sb1070. One of my readers is married to a so called "illeegal." His mother brought him to this country in the 90's from El Salvador. He was just a child. The country was a war torn shambles and they sought escape and the American Dream. He went to school and did well. Today, he is a hard working father of two. He married a mexican american citizen. He and his wife have hired an Immigration lawyer and they are attempting to correct his status. The courts are so backlogged, they have been in limbo for some time now.

Her parents live in Arizona and are having a family reunion over Thanksgiving. They want to go but realize if sb1070 is enacted, they will all be in jeopardy. If stopped, they both would be arrested. He would go to a detention center for six months then deported to El Salvador. He barely speaks Spanish and doesn't even remember the country. She would have her car confiscated and be charged with a Class 3 misdemeanor and forced to pay a $1000 fine. If they made it to her parents house, they too would be charged a $1000 fine and charged for harboring.

I got to thinking about the girls basketball team in Illinois. What if one of their players was like my reader's husband. What if she was brought to this country as a child and is now on the basketball team. If she went on the trip, she would be jailed in a detention center for 6 months then deported. The entire team would be arrested/charged a class 3 misdemeanor. If they drove, their vehicle(s) would be confiscated. They would be forced to pay a $1000 fine. Perhaps this draconian law and the personal impacts it would have on each of them is why they are boycotting the state.

And let's look at arpaio's detention center/tent city. He has lost $40M in lost civil suits due to wrongful deaths/abuses in his jails. He dresses them in pink underwear, houses them in tents, and has them eat green bologna. He charges the state $100 a day for each detainee, that is why he jails them for 6 months before deporting them. Arpaio just reported that his jail/tent city is infested with chicken pox. He doesn't blame himself for the deplorable, disease/vermin infested unsanitary conditions in his facility. He blames those that are sick for their illnesses, even though they have very poor medical assistance in his deplorable jails.

  1. Video : Big Boycott in Mexico against Arizona - Mexico buys 4.5 billion dollars from Arizona and spends 2.5 billion dollars in tourism inside Arizona

Mexico is number one foreign customer of Arizona, far surpassing Canada and China. Latin America buys more from the USA than the European Economic Community.

Activists in Mexico City are organizing a Big Boycott of Arizona Products and Services. Don't buy from Arizona, Don't travel to Arizona.

The North American Free Trade Agreement prohibits the Mexican Government from participation and organization, but not the citizens of Mexico, they can vote with their dollars ( by not spending them in Arizona ).

AlJazeeraEnglish — May 19, 2010 — A new law in Arizona targeting illegal immigrants has given police broad powers to stop anyone they suspect of being in the state illegally and detain them if they cannot prove their immigration status.

The introduction of the law has angered activists in Mexico say the law is discriminatory. In response they are trying to organize a boycott of Arizona.

Al Jazeera's Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City.

  2. That's why I have long been an advocate for a rigid set of criteria for immigration decisions and appeals so that cases can be decided within 24 hours and appeals within a week.

I assume from your post that the mother was an illegal and brought her child to the U.S. in violation of the law. Do you think that type of behavior should be excused and thereby encouraged?

Early detection using E-verify seems to me to be the answer. Had the mother obtained work using a duplicate or fraudulent ssn, she would have been detected and sent back to her homeland with her child. There must be millions of impoverished people in Latin American countries. By excusing one we encourage all the others to behave in a similar fashion. It is not reasonable to expect the U.S. to take in all of the poor people of the world.

How did the mother get here with her child? We need to find the point of entry and put an end to it. But in the end, we cannot stop border violations without laws like SB 1070 and without E-verify. It is as simple as that.

If you oppose SB 1070 and E-verify, then you are for open borders and can no longer tout secure borders as part of your preferred CIR.

  3. ultima,
as i've said numerous times, the US did not enforce immigration laws south of the border and employers readily hired workers until 2006/2007, after the May 2006 marches when the ANTI CIR advocates became emboldened and pushed their restrictionist agenda. For a while, the Minutemen were supported by Fox news until they started all of their in-fighting which led to the demise of their national MM organizations; they also fell out of favor with Fox news.

We see the same thing happening with the sb1070 supporters. They are beginning their infighting again, as I recently reported.

As I said in this blog, the family came in the 1990s. I don't if they applied for sanctuary. There were many families from war torn El Salvador that apply and were not granted it.

  4. Ultima,
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. SB1070 is racial profiling and draconian. As Kobach said, the aim is to make life hell for illeeeegals; it also makes life hell for latinos.

You CANNOT say if you do not support racial profiling bill sb1070 you support open borders.

That would be like me saying if you support sb1070 you support the KKK.

  5. Ultima,
One thing I noticed about your comment(s) that I am sure my readers have also noticed: You have NOT refuted one single word. These actions will happen once sb1070 is enacted.

That is another reason to Boycott AZ. For the 1st time in history, the relatives or friends of people whose papers have lapsed will have their cars confiscated, charged with a misdemeanor and fined $1,000. This includes anyone riding in a car, visiting, going to church, etc.

Why would ANYONE go to AZ with these draconian measures put in place? Each citizen will be forced to act as a Border Patrol agent or risk these fines/charges.

  6. Video : Russell Pearce and his best friends J. T. Ready and the Nazis at Arizona State Capitol - Swastikas, SS symbols, Salutes of "Sieg Heil" with extended arms

It is hard to believe after watching this video that the USA fought a war to end the Nazi Power of Hitler. And that hundreds of thousands of Americans died in that struggle.

Aren't republicans ashamed of having those bedfellows ??

Russell Pearce, Republican and State Senator pushed the Racist Laws in Arizona Legislature.

He is the best friend of Nazis, there are many photos of this guy embracing his Nazi Friends - Russell Pearce has also been accused by his wife of beating and abusing her.

  7. No, I would not be so foolhardy as to suggest racial profiling will not happen or that there might be other unfair and unfortunate incidents. I do maintain that such incidents are unlikely to affect citizens unduly if they are willing to carry their proof of citizenship. I don't see this as a major imposition. It is just the logical thing to do when this law takes effect. I have also made positive suggestions on how the impact of SB 1070 might be ameliorated such as a way for a person to present his proof once and then get a new forgery proof drivers license that indicates one's citizenship or legal presence has been verified. I also suggested an addition to police cruiser communication devices to enable on the spot check of bona fides against a national date base.

I don't like the idea that white supremicists may be involved in this in any way. I believe if we focus on solving the problem of the illegal aliens already present and crossing the border every day, draconian bills like SB 1070 will go away.

You have not refuted to the proposition that the borders can never be secure without vigorous internal enforcement. This is the point at which you should fully and officially endorse E-verify as a less intrusive way to a solution to the overall problem. That I think is the key. We can begin by just using it to register illegal aliens who are in jobs in the U.S. Then we can take the next steps to see how many must be deported to secure the borders by creating an adequate discentive.

Although I have admitted the possibility of some imposition on Mexican Americans, I don't believe, if handled correctly, it need be severe. We need to find the appropriate balance between enforcement and civil rights. If Mexican Americans are unwilling to cooperate with the former than their will be less sympathy regarding civil rights. All I am suggesting is that the proof of citizenship is really a very minor thing when you get right down to it, especially if you put that in the context of helping to solve a national problem. It is the absence of that kind of cooperation and assistance in solving the problem that results in laws like SB 1070. There has been absolutely no positive and effective suggestions from the Mexican American community on how to solve this problem. They simply don't want it solved. That is the crux of the problem. What do those folks expect Arizona lawmakers to do in the absence of that fundamental indication of their loyalty to the U.S. as opposed to their illegal ethnic brethren.

A janitorial service lost a law suit today in Boulder, Colorado against another service 75% of whose employees were illegal alien. This enabled the second service to underbid the first. This was a case where the miscreant employer got off the hook by the ridiculous claim that he didn't "know" they were illegal.
    Do you see the problem?

Pray tell how are we supposed to do that. I don't think Mexico would tolerate that. Isn't that Calderon's job? Hasn't he shirked that duty from the begining? No one should listen to him. He has a huge conflict of interest that has nothing to do with intolerance, etc. It has to do with taking millions of his poor off his hands and getting billions sent back to Mexico.

It is clear that the U.S. needs some Mexican labor but we should not be seeking it at the expense of our national sovereignty. I think this problem can be solved but it requires a lot of give from the supporters of illegal aliens. Once we have that we can set up a process for excluding those who are or would be surplus to our needs, decide what penalties and conditions we should impose on those who are allowed to stay.

If one removes the hype, what remains is the need for people to know the situations of those they choose to transport or ride with. A little more documentation and checking is all that is required to avoid this problem.
The real issue is whether folks wish to cooperate with the authorities or shelter their potetially illegal friends and relatives. If the former, there is an easy solution. Just make sure you know the status of those you transport or ride with.

When papers have lapsed, it is time to leave. These must be the visa overstays. They need to honor their visas rather than treating them as a technicality that means nothing.

Hype! Hype! Hype! Let's set the record straight. Some racial profiling may occur; the bill does not prescribe or condone it. It may indeed make life difficult for illegals but keep in mind they are illegal, they violated our borders, they take jobs Americans will do, they cost us tons of money for welfare for their American-born children, education, and medical care. Latino citizens don't have to worry. They just need to carry proof of citizenship just like their drivers license. Seems like a reasonble request from their state and their country to help solve this massive problem before it is too late. That is what I would do. Sometimes it is just good policy to keep a low profile when there is a bully in the area. Kids deal with that every day in school. Why are adults unable to do so? A piece of paper won't protect a kid but will a citizen or other authorized person.

  15. Millions of people come to this country because corporate America is addicted to cheap labor. We have seen a lot of jobs shipped overseas to satisfy corporate America's addiction to cheap labor. It is a drug that our corporate backbone cannot live without — or can it?
