Soap Opera Politics Vol 1 Issue 14: Immigration Issues Coming to A Head in the Political Debate! Sleeping Giant Awakens!

The Immigration issues are coming to a head. Various politicians are taking sides, PRO vs ANTI, pandering to either side of the political debate. Some States are instituting restrictionist laws. The supporting politicians are backing these unenforceable laws purely for political gain.
Case in Point: Matt Blunt, the unpopular and defamed boy Governor of Missouri. Severely unpopular, he desperately
signed a bill promoting sanctions against “community leaders” while providing employers relief, pandering to the ANTI racist extremists. His political opponents (Talboy) publicly chastising him for the error of his ways. (and rightly so) Meanwhile, the Presidential candidates are staying amazingly neutral. Then, in Oklahoma, home of Randy Terrill´s HB:1804, Workers and Businesses are leaving in droves. Litigation is blocking any future immigration restrictions. This is due to the Latino groups being energized into action. No More Racial Profiling! No more demonizing of ALL Latinos!
As AOLNews reports:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Vowing to become more politically active, Latino groups Monday praised a federal judge's decision to block enforcement of parts of a state law that targets illegal immigrants and promised to support state lawmakers who have opposed the measure. A coalition of Hispanic organizations said momentum against the law, House Bill 1804, is building seven months after parts of it went into effect. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Robin J. Cauthron issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting enforcement of other provisions scheduled to go into effect on July 1."Countless thousands of families have been separated, torn apart," said the Rev. Victor Orta of the Coalition of Latin American Ministers. He said the anti-immigrant law and its harsh penalties sends a message that immigrants are not wanted in the state.

"This must stop. Enough is enough," Orta said.
Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, author of HB1804, has said he was disappointed but not surprised by Cauthron's ruling, which he labels "a blatant act of judicial activism" and predicted an appeal if the ruling is made permanent.
Franco Cevallos of the Hispanic Action Coalition said the law's effect on Oklahoma's economy "has been catastrophic.""Hundreds of stores have closed their doors permanently. Houses have been abandoned," Cevallos said. He said Latino workers are skilled and hardworking and "are the energy behind the motor that sustains the economy.""Their presence in the state has proven to be good for the economy," Cevallos said.Coalition members said Latino organizations are conducting citizenship and English courses for Hispanic immigrants and have registered as many as 17,000 Hispanic citizens to vote.
"There will be more Hispanics going to the polls in November than ever in the history of Oklahoma," Orta said. "And thousands of us can influence non-Hispanics to vote."We will see a difference. There will be a change in Oklahoma (and the US)," Orta said.

  1. 2008 Oklahoma Economic Outlook - April Update

Here it is directly from OSU. Complete contradiction of your biased article and hypothesis.

"U.S. Conditions Weaken, State Continues to Outperform"

× The story in Oklahoma and much of the central region of the country is much different, as broad economic conditions remain quite strong relative to the nation.
× Twelve month job growth in Oklahoma is currently running at a 1.6% rate, ranking the state among the top ten nationally along with other energy states.
× The central region of the nation is outperforming the U.S. as a whole, especially those states receiving a net boost from energy. Texas and Colorado continue to post job growth rates in excess of 2.0%.
Wyoming remains the fastest growing state.Louisiana’s recovery from hurricanes Katrina and Rita continues to benefit from high energy prices.
× The bordering states of New Mexico, Arkansas, and Kansas continue to trail Oklahoma job growth by at least 0.5%. Arkansas and Missouri are experiencing
the slowdown at roughly the same rate as the nation and trail Oklahoma job growth by a full 1%.
× The traditional fast growth states of California, Arizona,
Nevada, and Florida are all likely in meaningful recessions and are exerting most of the negative impact on the national numbers. Many of the rust belt states are also likely in recession and
continue to suffer from manufacturing job losses and the housing collapse.
× Twenty-one states reported job losses in the first two months of 2008. Oklahoma ranks fifth with nearly 8,000 jobs added on a seasonally adjusted basis in the first two months of the year.

  5. "The Immigration issues are coming to a head. Various politicians are taking sides, PRO vs ANTI, pandering to either side of the political debate. Some States are instituting restrictionist laws."

You mean like enforcing our immigration laws? Laws are meant to be "restrictive" for God's sake!

"The supporting politicians are backing these unenforceable laws purely for political gain."

They aren't "unenforceable" obviously because it is making the illegals leave those areas. More conjecture on your side that they are doing it for political gain. So hard for you to believe that there really are politicans and Americans out there that truly are for the rule of law and have morals and scruples, isn't it?

"Case in Point: Matt Blunt, the unpopular and defamed boy Governor of Missouri. Severely unpopular, he desperately signed a bill promoting sanctions against “community leaders” while providing employers relief, pandering to the ANTI racist extremists."

Race card pulling duly noted yet again with "racist anti's" remark.

"His political opponents (Talboy) publicly chastising him for the error of his ways. (and rightly so) Meanwhile, the Presidential candidates are staying amazingly neutral. Then, in Oklahoma, home of Randy Terrill´s HB:1804, Workers and Businesses are leaving in droves."

Good, we don't want businesses in our country thriving on cheap illegal labor and not hiring Americans instead. The best part is those illegal workers are leaving. That was the intent! Mission accomplised!

"Litigation is blocking any future immigration restrictions. This is due to the Latino groups being energized into action. No More Racial Profiling! No more demonizing of ALL Latinos"

These Latino groups are citizens, right? Why would they want illegal aliens to stay in our country? No need to answer we already know the answer to that one. Still repeating your racial profiling nonsense? Demonizing ALL Latinos? LOL! Is your nose growing yet?

  6. "Vowing to become more politically active, Latino groups Monday praised a federal judge's decision to block enforcement of parts of a state law that targets illegal immigrants and promised to support state lawmakers who have opposed the measure."

Wow, sounds like ethnocentric sedition to me!

"He said the anti-immigrant law and its harsh penalties sends a message that immigrants are not wanted in the state.
"This must stop. Enough is enough," Orta said."

Anti-immigrant? Who is anti-immigrant? Note the Spanish surname claiming that "immigrants" are not wanted in the state. Is his nose growing too?

"Franco Cevallos of the Hispanic Action Coalition said the law's effect on Oklahoma's economy "has been catastrophic.""Hundreds of stores have closed their doors permanently. Houses have been abandoned," Cevallos said. He said Latino workers are skilled and hardworking and "are the energy behind the motor that sustains the economy.""Their presence in the state has proven to be good for the economy," Cevallos said.Coalition members said Latino organizations are conducting citizenship and English courses for Hispanic immigrants and have registered as many as 17,000 Hispanic citizens to vote."

I think Liquid already laid to rest this lie about Oklahoma's economy and job situation. What a pompous %$^. As if illegal alien workers are more hard working than Americans. My, how was our economy "driven" before illegal aliens came into the picture? Guess we were all living in a cave waiting for them to rescue us? Yeah, we all know why he is pushing for Hispanic citizens to register to vote. It is for all the wrong reasons.

  7. So if Govenor Blunt is pandering to the so-called "racist anti's" is it fair to say that Orta and Cevallos are pandering to the "racist pro's"?

  8. Pat,
What you are missing (as you usually do) is the fact that these restrictionist laws promote Racial Profiling against ALL Latinos in the community. People do not want to live and work in an oppressive environment in which they are routinely stopped, watched, monitored ala 1984. So they move, as they did in Oklahoma and Arizona. Therefore much business is lost.

There are ways to make positive change vs the restrictionist, racial profiling way being used today in those states.

  9. Liquid, I found a better link. It is from the
    Ok Employment Security Commission.
    http://www.oesc.state.ok.us/LMI/

This provides the 10yr outlook and shows trends from 1984 thru to projections to 2014. As you will see, there were dramatic increases due to Clinton policies then dramatic decreases through the Bush years. The projection thru 2014 seem inflated due to the restrictionist laws. When I look at Bureau of Labor statistics most recent report, it indicates Oklahomas Employment growth has dropped to 1.5%.

  10. Your link only shows info for the month of June 2008. It falls pretty much in line with what mine showed and stated, which doesn't fall in line with your article and the opinions stated by the Hispanic Group.

  11. You are full of it as usual, dee. There is no racial profiling per se. It is no different then when a white male has committed a crime that white males would be questioned. 1984? LOL! Don't me me laugh. You and your false melodramatics!

Good, we don't want any businesses to thrive if they have to do it will illegal alien labor. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW! They need to go out of business then.

That it has, however you should be looking at its top 10 national ranking, and how long Oklahoma has been in this position.

  13. Liquid,
Here is another report forecasting losses:

For Oklahoma, the Perryman report said enforcing a hard-line immigration policy would result in 13,371 lost jobs, $686 million in lost output and $441 million in lost income.

"We're not training our kids for sheet rock," Houston interior construction contractor Stan Marek told a Tulsa audience Wednesday. "We're sending them to college. We're giving them every opportunity in the world. But who's going to do the work?"

Houston-based Americans for Immigration Reform commissioned the study as part of its goal to educate Americans on the realities behind today's immigration debate. Although it takes a definite stance on the issue, Cardenas said AIR sees itself more as an educational arm, seeking to help form a consensus compromise at the national level.

The group chose Tulsa to hold its first public meeting outside of Texas because the Sooner State has already felt repercussions from the enactment of its own immigration reform. After that Wednesday morning meeting, the group took its public education campaign to Oklahoma City, launching a $20 million fundraising campaign to carry its message across America.

"It is through meetings such as these that meaningful change can occur," said Kell Kelly, president and chief executive of Tulsa- based SpiritBank. "We need to prioritize our leadership nationally so that frustration doesn't boil over into the radical positions others espouse."

There's no bias there, right??!!How can they attribute it to "Immigrants" and not the national economy?? I don't buy there argument, sorry!! Try again. Like i said, Oklahoma ranks in the top 10 nationally of job creation, growth, and state economy. You even showed that with your link about Oklahoma, now your trying to argue from a biased view?
