President Obama takes Measures to Thwart Racial Profiling in Arizona and Protect Latinos Impacted!

President Obama has taken measures to PROTECT LATINOS from Arizona's Racial Profiling law sb1070. The Republican Supreme Court overturned most of sb1070 but allowed the most heinous portion of the bill to stand - the Racial Profiling portion.
The following two programs are the protection measures President Obama has put in place to minimize the impact of Racial Profiling attacks against Latinos in Arizona:

1. End 287g Program: The Obama administration said Monday it is suspending existing agreements with Arizona police over enforcement of federal immigration laws, and said it has issued a directive telling federal authorities to decline many of the calls reporting illegal immigrants that the Homeland Security Department may get from Arizona police. Administration officials, speaking on condition they not be named, told reporters they expect to see an increase in the number of calls they get from Arizona police — but that won’t change President Obama’s decision to limit whom the government actually tries to detain and deport.

2. Racial Profiling Hotline: The Justice Department has set up a hotline for the public to report potential civil rights concerns regarding the Arizona law that requires police to check the immigration status of those they stop for other reasons. The hotline phone number is 1-855-353-1010. The email is: SB1070(at)usdoj.gov.
Latinos, IF YOU ARE STOPPED BY POLICE IN ARIZONA, for any reason, and YOU BELIEVE YOU WERE RACIALLY PROFILED, be polite to police, but get their name and call this hotline and report them.

Republican Agenda REVEALED:

PROOF OF VOTER SUPPRESSION FROM THE LIPS OF A REPUBLICAN!
Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Bradford Woods, made a very revealing remark Saturday at a right wing Republican meeting of the Republican State Committee in Hershey, PA. In this video, Turzai leaks the intent of their state's voter suppression law. Turzai provides his list of accomplishments of the Republican state House and Senate for this far right extremist Tea Party crowd. Turzai pointed to the new requirement for ALL voters to show a photo ID card as one example.

The PROOF of VOTER Suppression came from Turzai's own lips. Turzai said: "Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it's done. First pro-life legislation -- abortion facility regulations -- in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is going to allow Governor [Mitt] Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done."
Luckily for America, loyal patriots video taped Turzai's trechorous remarks. This video PROVES Republican's intent of Voter Suppression to help Romney hoodwink his way to Presidential Office.
Patriots who revealed the trechorous video said: "Pennsylvania already had sufficient safeguards in place to protect against voter impersonation." The Republican Agenda is clear. The reason for these trecherous Voter Suppression laws is to CON Romney into office.

THE REPUBLICAN SUPREME COURT’S RULING ON SB1070: WHAT ROMNEY WOULD LIKE TO SAY!

The Republican Supreme Court has upheld the Racial Profiling aspect of Arizona’s sb1070. La Bruja Jan Brewer and Arpayaso are laughing and gloating about it. Yet, Mitt Romney is very, very quiet. So are his cohorts. Though Romney isn’t saying anything, here are my thoughts on what Romney is saying privately to his Tea Party extremist Right Wing base:

“Shhhh… let’s not aggravate the Latino base. Let’s not say a word. (wink wink) I know our Republican Supreme Court has passed the best part of sb1070. Now, Sheriff’s like Arpaio can racially profile ALL the Mexicans, all the Brown People, anyone of color because OUR Supreme Court said so. ”
Romney continues: “Our Republican Sheriffs are going to take sb1070 into high gear, especially during Election Time. We are going to scare the hell out of ALL LATINOS who dare to vote. We’re going to stop everyone in the car. We are going to ask their kids for their papers. We are going to make them so nervous, they will be very afraid, they’ll be afraid to leave the house. They’ll never vote.”
Romney laughs: “If any of them try to vote, OUR VOTER SUPRESSION LAWs will really STOP THEM from Voting. We won’t let them use their College Ids or their Medicare Cards. If they don't have OUR Official Ids, like Gun Permits, then we will make them drive 20 or 30 miles into non-Latino neighborhoods so they can try and get them (Good Luck!) We’ll have them running scared and hiding. With No Vote, Who Cares What the Hell they Do!”
Romney finishes: “Like I’ve been telling you! My plan is to VETO Obama’s Dream Act on Day 1. My plan is to force ALL 11M of those illeegals out of the country by making them Self Deport themselves. My plan is to Make them take their kids with them. My plan is to Change the 14th Amendment so that their spawn are No Longer Citizens.”
Romney Concludes: “Tea Party and Extremist Republicans, my pledge to you is to STOP the Census Bureau’s prediction that OUR USA is going to be Majority Minority in 2030. Nope. Not on OUR Watch. We are going to make it so difficult for those Beaners to be here that ALL of them, including the Legal Ones, Self Deport themselves OUT OF OUR COUNTRY. Once we get rid of the Beaners, we’ll target the Blacks and the Asians…. Majority Minority? Not on my watch!”

The Tea Party gives Romney and his HINO VP a Standing Ovation!

Humanitarians Protest the Torturous Conditions of Arpaio's Tent City!

Phoenix: Several thousand demonstrators gathered in front of Arpaio's "Tent City" last night. They rallied for the closure of the most heinous prison in the country. The conditions at "Tent City" complex are inhumane. The canvas tents provide little protection from the 115 degree heat during Arizona summers. Vermin and disease surround the prisoners. Last year, temperatures inside the temporary structures hit 145 degrees, more than 30 degrees hotter than the outside high for that day. The canvas jail, which has been criticized by an Amnesty International report, can house up to 2,000 inmates, all of whom have been convicted of non-violent crimes or are detainee undocumented immigrants, uncharged. Arpaio forces them to wear pink underwear and striped uniforms, laughing and mocking the detainees' misery. The sheriff has said he doesn't see any problems with housing inmates and detainees in tents and often points out that some members of the U.S. military live in tents.
The protesters, voicing their compassion for the inmates chanted, "We are with you," in hopes that inmates could hear them. Most protesters held candles and wore yellow T-shirts that read "Standing on the side of love," a slogan of the Unitarian Universalist Association, which was holding its annual convention in Phoenix this weekend, to support those Arpaio holds in these deplorable conditions. The rally was the latest effort by the association to promote social justice. The Unitarians organized the rally along with the immigrant rights group Puente Arizona. Both groups stood together in solidarity.

They also gathered to protest the racial profiling bill sb1070 which the Republican Supreme Court is currently reviewing. "We wanted to stand in solidarity with the immigration groups," the groups said. "We just wanted to be there to have a big presence and say this is wrong."

Uncovered Video: Issa's Real Reason for Holder Witch Hunt!

Now we have Darryl Issa's true reason for his Witch Hunt against A.G. Eric Holder. Last April he spoke before the National Rifle Association (NRA) and he was video taped revealing his true reasons for this Witch Hunt against Attorney General Eric Holder.
As I've reported, Project Gunrunner and "Gun-Walking" was started under the Bush Administration and continued under the Obama Administration using the name "Fast & Furious." The ATF started these projects to try and find the leaders of the Cartels who were purchasing Hundreds of Thousands of guns from the US and other countries. The ATF lead agent in Phoenix became frustrated because he wasn't getting the leaders of the Cartels, just the underlings, so he "went rogue" allowing 2020 guns to be gun-walked from 2009 - 2010 and lost track of 1000 guns. A Cartel member killed a Border Agent in 2010, and one of the dozens of guns he had was a gun-walk gun.

Even though members of the Phoenix ATF testified to these events, Issa is using the Congressional Hearings as a political means to destroy A.G. Holder. Holder hasn't been cooperating with the Republican Agenda. Holder has taken sb1070 to the Supreme Court, he is indicting Arpaio, he is investigating the Republican Voter Suppression policies in 17 states, he is opposing the anti-gay marriage laws, and more. Republicans despise A.G. Holder and they want to get rid of him. Their plan: Create a Bogus Conspiracy Theory and force him to resign.

Now we have video evidence of Issa, speaking to the NRA faithful, advancing his baseless and reckless conspiracy theory that the Obama administration intentionally lost track of guns sold through the program in order to boost gun violence and clear the way for an assault weapons ban. Issa posed this as a rhetorical question and then answered it:
"They've never answered the question, "What were they thinking of?" Could it be that what they really were thinking of was in fact to use this walking of guns in order to promote an assault weapons ban. Many think so. And they haven't come up with an explanation that would cause any of us not to agree."

Issa's video proves his irrational allegations. Issa believes he is the Thought Police? He is suggesting that Congress prosecute our Attorney General based on this bogus theory of his? This video proves that Issa is pandering to the NRA and that his Thought Police claims are outright silly!

BTW, nutcase extremist Ted Nugent, famous for his racist attacks against our President, also spoke at this NRA Convention.

Joe Arpaio's Gulags on Lockdown for Candlelight Vigil

PNT.com reports: Yep, you read the headline right. Because a group of interfaith leaders and activists plan a candlelight vigil near Tent City on Saturday, June 23, starting at 8 p.m., "America's toughest most cowardly sheriff" will be placing his vast incarceration complex on lockdown for the day, preventing inmates from receiving visits from friends or family for 24 hours.

Is Sheriff Joe afraid that the Unitarian Universalists leading the demonstration will pray those jail doors open?
Nah, he just wants to punish his prisoners because his cruelty and bigotry is being opposed. Makes you wonder if the beatings at Fourth Avenue increase whenever church folk assemble nearby.
An MCSO press release states that Arpaio "will be present at the demonstration Saturday in order to defend Tent City and his jail policies."
Um, from whom, God?
Evidently Arpaio ain't a believer, because if he were, he'd be worrying about one day having to justify all the wickedness he's promoted all his life.
Technically, Arpaio is Catholic, but then, so was Torquemada.
Not that I'm religious, but if I ascribed to some form of Christianity, I'd reckon Arpaio will be keeping Saddam Hussein company in hell once the octogenarian croaks of natural causes.
Nor am I holding my breath waiting for Arpaio to shuffle off this mortal coil. The guy's living proof that only the good die young.
In any case, the vigil will take place at West Durango Street and 35th Avenue in Phoenix at the aforementioned time and date.
The Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, which is currently holding its general assembly in Phoenix, will congregate there along with other religious groups, the human rights organization Puente, and numerous other organizations and individuals.
On a related note, Puente organizer Carlos Garcia has written a powerful essay describing what needs to be done to counter the hate of Senate Bill 1070, Arpaio, and so on. I encourage all to read it, and to check out the HuffingtonPost's recent interview with Garcia on the same subject.

BREAKING NEWS: NRA Threatens Republicans in Congress: "You Don't Vote For Holder' Censure, You're Done!"

Breaking News in the Republican Witch Hunt Against Eric Holder: The NRA is THREATENING Republican Congress!!
NRA Memo to Republican Congress:

This is an issue of utmost seriousness and the NRA will consider this vote in future candidate evaluations."

Breaking News: I was just on the Michael Medved Show and Asked Him Why the Witch Hunt Against Eric Holder!

Breaking News: I was just on the Michael Medved Talk Radio show. I often listen to his show on my way home from my Consulting job. I frequently disagree with Michael, but he is likable and I listen to hear the opposition's perspective so I can write about them on my blog.
I never call in to talk radio shows but I decided to do so today because he was talking about Eric Holder and the President and he was clearly uninformed regarding the facts about "Fast and Furious." Since I just completed research about this issue, I asked why he and Republicans are on this witch hunt against Attorney General Holder and the President. He started spouting his talking points. I shared the history of events, starting with Project Gunrunner. What was amazing to me is, he was totally unaware, and admitted this, about: ATF William Newell and his operation in Phoenix going "rogue," allowing "Gun-Walking."  THIS IS THE CORE OF THE CASE!
Michael was also unaware of Agent Newell's testimony last July, 2011, during the Congressional Hearings when he testified and apologized the "Gun-Walking."
Michael is very good at overtalking, but he was clearly stumped and he admitted he was not aware that Newell's role was the CORE of the Case.

And he is also totally unaware of the reason for the contempt charges. It is clear that Republicans Grassley and Issa's motives are political. Holder has provided over 7,000 documents and has said he will sit down and detail these documents. However he will not include documents that identify undercover informants or documents related to pending cases that may jeopardize the prosecution of those indicted.
The only core/kernel that Republicans Grassley/Issa are standing on is THIS LETTER sent to Grassley in February, 2011 by the DOJ representative responding to Grassley's questions about the program after the whistle blower asked Grassley to investigate. Grassley interpretted th letter as saying the DOJ was LYING and DENYING "Fast & Furious" existed. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT THE LETTER IS SAID. This letter talks about Project Gunrunner and NOT about the rogue operation "Gun-Walking" committed by Agent Newell and his crew in Phoenix.

Michael admitted he was unaware of so many CORE issues, but kept over-talking me. I wrote to him afterward encouraging him to read my article about this subject.
Deep inside, I think Michael has good intentions, but it's too bad he doesn't personally investigate the history and the facts before he goes on Witch Hunts. He is just like so many other Republican pundits.

I hope they start studying the facts.

Republicans on a Witch Hunt against Attorney General Eric Holder

The Republicans are at it again. They are attacking Eric Holder and threatening him saying unless he resigns they will bring a formal "contempt" vote against him.
I decided to study the "Fast and Furious" program the Republicans are so up in arms about. After my studies, I am very concerned that the Press hasn't shared very much about the actual issues. The news stories suggest this is a recent issue about the "Fast and Furious" program and some type of cover up perpetrated by the Attorney General. However, this is totally wrong. Here is what I found out.
The reality is, this issue is actually about the decade long Drug War in Mexico, the weapons the US and other countries are sending to the Cartels that are fueling the War, and the ATF's mission to identify the Leaders in the Gun Running Operations. The ATF's mission is actually called "Operation Gun Runner" and started in 2005 during the Bush Administration. Operation Gun Runner used a new software search program called "eTrace" which enables identification of the weapon's original owners.  The ATF's mission was noble. They wanted to stem the flow of the weapons by identifying the Gun Running Leaders. They started a new program titled "Fast and Furious" in early 2009 because one of the key targets worked out of a Chop Shop -- similar to the popular movie. As the program progressed, some local ATFs became frustrated because they didn't believe the program was going fast enough or enabling them to identify the higher ups in the Gun Running operations. They were able to reach the lower levels, not the Leaders.  One local group in Phoenix led by ATF Special Agent William Newell went rogue. In late 2009, he started using a procedure called "Gun-Walking."
We've all heard of "stings." Gun-Walking is a type of sting. The ATF group in Phoenix utilized certain Gun Shops to sell ATF weapons and they watched the bad-guys purchase the guns so they could follow them and identify their leaders. This was not standard procedure. They were supposed to arrest the buyers and not allow the guns out of their sights. Newell wanted to follow the guns to their leaders. He was successful in some cases and arrested a few leaders. He allowed these procedures to continue. While some arrests were made, they lost track of many of the weapons. In total, 2020 firearms were "Gun-Walked" and the vast majority were from Agent Newell's group.  While these 2020 firearms are but a small fraction of the weapons shipped to the cartels in Mexico, not all of these weapons have been recovered and one of these weapons was identified in the death of a border agent shot in 2010, about a year after Newell initiated the "Gun-Walking" project.
After the agent was killed, a whistle blower agent wrote to Sen.Grassley to report what happened. Grassley, on the Judiciary Committee contacted Darryl Issa who initiated an investigation who then began the Congressional Hearings.
Agent Newell testified about this before Congress last July, 2011. The NY Times wrote about his testimony here. Agent Newell was under oath as he testified to what happened as were many of his associates.

Though Issa and Grassley know what occurred, for political reasons, they are continuing this Witch Hunt against Attorney General Eric Holder. Even though AG Holder has provided over 7,000 documents, they are demanding more. They've even asked for the names of confidential informants and evidence for future arrest cases of those arrested.
As Issa and Grassley continue to attack AG Holder. Here is what they are forgetting:
1. Project Gunrunner started in 2005, under George Bush
2. The "Gun-Walking" aspect they disagree with occurred in one location by one lead agent
3. The ATF's main objective: Stop the Gun Running to the Cartels in Mexico. Root out the Leaders of the Gun Runners.
4. The Bad Guy shot the gun that shot the agent, not one of the ATF agents. And the gun was one of a huge number of assault weapons carried by those that shot him.

Unfortunately Issa and Grassley and Republicans continue to pander to their Political Benefactors - the NRA and the 1%. They would like to dissolve the ATF. Many may even wonder if they would like to see the expansion of more guns/arms selling.

True Blood's Vampire King patterned after Republican Tea Partier Rick Santorum

True Blood creator Alan Ball talked about Season five and how he got the idea to mix religion with the vampires, fairies, werewolves and shape-shifters already taking up residence in the swampy Louisiana town. The answer? The Republican primaries. It was the religious right that got his creative juices flowing, and it was Rick Santorum that was his inspiration for Roman.

"For me the jumping off point was watching the Republican primaries, watching Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and asking what would it be like to have a theocracy in America – which is way more terrifying than any fictional monster could ever be," he said. "You don’t really see vampires being religious creatures. They are excluded from God. But what if there was a vampire bible? A religion? Theocracy? How would that impact our human characters, or vampire characters?"

Roman, played by Law and Order's Christopher Meloni, aims to intensify the divide between humans and vampires by instilling the notion that humans are inferior and vampires were created in God's image.
About Roman/Rick Santorum: "What’s terrifying is how many people agree with him," he said of the ultraconservative candidate with the strong religious following.

Romney Hiding From Previous Statements About Vetoing Dream Act! Right Wingers Up in Arms Against Dream Policy!

Watch this Video. A few months ago, while he was still pandering to the far right crowd, Romney brazenly stated that if he was elected President and if President Obama passed the Dream Act, he would VETO it on his 1st day of office. Since President Obama announced his Dream Policy, Romney - who has been attempting to pander to Latinos, has been ducking questions on whether he will VETO the President's decision. On this morning's "This Week with George Stephanopolous, Tim Pawlenty claimed Romney never said it. These Republicans forget about videos when they try to etch a sketch their lies.
We all know the Republican's agenda. Romney said he wants all 11M to Mass Self Deport themselves. That's on video too, but Pawlenty forgot that comment as well.
In fact, most of the right wingers are ANTI Latinos and against the Dream Act. They strongly support the racial profiling bills like sb1070.
Right now, many of them are up in arms against the President's new DREAM policy. Romney's Immigration Advisor Kris Kobach is angry. Kobach said the new policy is “illegal” because it violates a section of the 1996 Immigration Reform Act. “What the president is describing is a policy that we will refuse to initiate deportation proceedings,” which Kobach said goes against current law.
HINO Marco Rubio is rescinding his Bogus DREAM Act proposal. As we all know, his Bogus proposal would have never been introduced due to the hate-filled rhetoric of Anti-Latino Republicans and it was merely Rubio's attempt to pander to Latino Voters.

To be expected, Arizona Republican Governor (La Bruja) Jan Brewer calls the Dreamer Policy "Outrageous" and "backdoor amnesty." Racial Prsaofiler Arpaio has denounced it.
Republican former Prez Candidate Rick Santorum said President Obama was "arrogant" and this was a "grab for power."
Nutty Republican Sarah Palin said our President was "pandering."
Zealot rep. from Iowa Steve King said the policy "meets the definition of amnesty."

For these Republican zealots who are opposed to this new policy, President Obama said he called on Congress Friday to send him a bill that would address the issue. "I've said time and time and time again to Congress, send me the Dream Act, put it on my desk, and I will sign it right away," he said. "Both parties wrote this legislation."

Thank You Mr. President for New Dream Policy! Meanwhile - Romney/Rubio are getting Nailed by their ANTI Latino Supporters!

First, Thank You Mr. President for standing strong against Republican zealots who oppose the Dream Act. We know that in 2010 you strongly supported and pushed forward "The Dream Act" and ALL Republicans and 5 turncoat Dems voted it down.
Now, you used your own powers to bring forward this Dream Policy. Thank you! The Policy, as detailed on the Homeland Security website, allows young Dreamers to gain legal status. While this policy is not the Dream Act, it will afford us time to continue to petition Congress to pass the Dream Act. It will also provide us time if the Republican Supreme Court allows the racial profiling provisions of sb1070 to be enacted. All American Latinos in Arizona should be very afraid if the Republican Supreme Court allows these provisions to be enacted. As a popular Republican radio pundit has been saying "It's not racial profiling if you fit the profile." We all know what that means in Arizona as Arpaio and his masked volunteer goons so clearly demonstrated in quiet Latino towns. Let us all be vigilant in these very trying times. Let's stand strong and respond with our votes.

I've also been reading many hate filled comments on various news sites that are discussing President Obama's policy change. It is clear that all those that hate our President are particularly up in arms right now. This policy is making them more angry at our President and it is also getting them angry at Romney and Rubio for not shouting down our President. We all know that Romney and Rubio are attempting to pander to the Latino Vote. Even though Romney said during the Republican debates that he would Veto the Dream Act if it were enacted under Obama. He and Rubio have changed their tune lately and have said they "may" propose a watered down version of the President's Dream policy. Of course we all know their fake dream act would never have come to fruition because their hate-filled backers would never allow it. Now we see proof positive in the many news articles on-line about this story. I've also been reading the website of the Hate Site Alipac. They are extremely angry at both Romney and Rubio for not attacking the President and Latinos right now.
I hate reading these websites or the comments sections because that is where these zealots pour out their true feelings. They call us "cockroaches" and they claim we are from "3rd world countries."

That reporter from Europe was rude to our President during his news conference. He must have been a White Nationalist, rudely interrupting our President during his news conference. If that biased reporter does not like our President or our policies, he should move back to Europe where he came from.
We are a free society in America. We are the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave where each of us, of any color, of any ethnicity, are able to achieve the American Dream. I say "THANK YOU Mr. President for again standing strong in the face of adversity."

Latinos In Arizona, Be Careful! If Supreme Court Rules Against Us, You May Be In Danger by Rogue Anti Latino Enforcers!

East Valley Tribune Reports: Just days before an anticipated Supreme Court ruling, the American Civil Liberties Union wants state officials to warn possible “rogue” officers from enforcing the state’s immigration law before they are legally entitled to do so.

In a letter to the Peace Officers Standards and Training Board on Thursday, Alessandra Meetze, executive director of the Arizona chapter, said even if the Supreme Court upholds part of SB 1070, that does not free officers to immediately start checking (Racially Profiling) the immigration status of those they have stopped.
At the very least, she said, the high court would order U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton to dissolve the injunction she issued nearly two years ago barring the state from enforcing several key provisions while the legality of the law is debated. And that process could take some time.
But Meetze also reminded Lyle Mann, the AzPOST executive director, that there are other challenges to SB 1070 pending which are not linked to the current case before the Supreme Court — and not based on the arguments of the Obama administration that federal law preempts the state statute. And Meetze said her organization is considering “all options” if the court sides with Arizona, including seeking a new injunction based on its own claims that SB 1070 will automatically lead to illegal racial profiling.
Mann was out of state on Thursday and an aide said he would respond to Meetze’s letter today.
The letter comes days after Gov. Jan Brewer ordered Mann’s agency to update the training video and materials it had prepared in 2010 in anticipation of SB 1070 taking effect.
Much of that surrounded the section which requires officers who have stopped someone to verify if that person is in the country legally if there is reasonable suspicion that he or she is not. The law allows the use of the person’s race to be used as a factor in making that determination, though it cannot be the only factor.
Mann said at the time the information is designed to ensure that officers do not engage in racial profiling. The training materials include guidelines that Border Patrol officers use when determining who to question.
Meetze said she fears that these new materials, being sent out now, amount to an invitation for officers to start making these inquiries the moment the Supreme Court issues its ruling, assuming it upholds the legality of what foes of the law have called the “show me your papers” provision.
She also pointed out those other pending lawsuits raise significant claims, including not just racial discrimination but constitutional questions that touch on the First and Fourth Amendments.
“Any law enforcement agency that attempts to enforce the enjoined provisions of SB 1070 before those provisions are deemed legally enforceable would expose itself to considerable scrutiny,” she wrote to Mann.
Meetze was more blunt in a separate statement.
“Rogue police officers who take it upon themselves to demand people’s papers before any part of the law even goes into effect will inevitably leave their communities highly exposed to lawsuits brought on by victims of these discriminatory practices,” she said.
Meetze also said that the training materials themselves are flawed because they are based on what courts have said the Border Patrol is entitled to do. She said those rulings involve people near the border and have nothing to do with normal interactions that state and local police have with those they stop.
For example, those materials list a host of factors that can be considered in determining whether there is reasonable suspicion someone is in this country illegally, such a travelling in a group, being in an overloaded car or being unable to speak English. Meetze said there are many people who are in this country legally who might fall into those categories.

Guest Voz - Latina Lista: Texas teen creates special college scholarship for her undocumented peers

LatinaLista — By her own admission, 18-year-old Audrey Vivar has always been a “little ambitious and nerdy.” Two qualities that helped this recent high school graduate of New Tech Manor High School outside Austin, Texas finish her senior year with a distinctive list of accomplishments — Key Club president, Student Council member, National Honor Society co-historian, Valedictorian of her class and — creator of a scholarship for undocumented students.
“I would sell the bracelets and advocate for the DREAM Act at the same time,” Vivar said.
Not starting until spring to raise the money, Vivar was crunched for time and created a Facebook page where she posted pictures of the bracelets and kept people informed of her goal. It wasn’t long before Vivar surpassed her goal of $500 by selling about 200 bracelets. Yet, she didn’t yet have the scholarship application available.
Creating a separate website in May, weeks before graduation, where students could go to apply for the scholarship, Vivar was thrilled that four students applied. A committee judged the applications and chose Manor High School student Nelly Reyna as the first recipient of the scholarship.
“I didn’t help select the winner because I would have been biased,” Vivar confessed. “But I did review the applications.”
In an ironic twist of fate, both Vivar and Reyna are heading to the University of Texas in Austin in September. Vivar plans to major in advertising and communications and has a special interest in marketing, but her dream job is to one day be a director of a non-profit.
Her other dream is to keep her scholarship active and she wants to raise $1,000 to award next year to Manor high school students. “I’m not sure if we would award one $1,000 scholarship or give two scholarships,” Vivar said. “But I know I can raise even more money at UT because there are more people who have already been advocating for the DREAM Act.”

Republican Groups Pushing to End BirthRight Citizenship especially for Latino Children!

Two Republican groups are promoting a Bill to End Birthright Citizenship - the 14th Amendment. The groups wants to force a reinterpretation of the 14th amendment to prevent children of undocumented immigrants from obtaining citizenship, thus removing (in their view) an incentive for people to cross the border illegally.

The two Republican Groups seeking this change are:
1.  the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC)
2.  the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), the legal arm John Tanton's Hate Group F.A.I.R. IRLI's proposal was written by Romney's Immigration surrogate Kris Kobach.

ALEC has numerous Republican Congress and Big Business members and is infamous for drafting ANTI Minority and ANTI Union = extremist bills for both State and Federal government. Examples include Florida's infamous "Stand your Ground" law (remember Trayvon Martin) and Big Corporation/ANTI-Union bills for various state governments, including Wisconsin.
IRLI's Kris Kobach has a long history of drafting Hate Bills including Arizona's sb1070 and other state ANTI Latino, Racial Profiling bills

ALEC and IRLI's primary reason in this hate-filled crusade is to model a bill that says children must have at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen (or resident alien) in order to be eligible for state citizenship. Their drafted bills, which run contrary to over 100 years of legal precedent, are designed so that legislators could take them back to their home states, work to get them passed, and then get sued with the hope that the case makes it all the way to the Republican Majority Supreme Court which would then overturn that 14th Amendment. This is exactly the same method Republicans used to get the Republican Supreme Court to overturn the "Citizen's United Case." The case in which the Court held that the First Amendment prohibited the government from restricting independent political expenditures by corporations and unions. The Result: They CHANGED the 1st Amendment which safeguarded against "the improper use of money to influence the result [of an election] is to deny to the nation in a vital particular the power of self protection".

When you get right to it, the Republican /Tea Party agenda is based on Racism. They are threatened by the Census Bureau's prediction about a minority majority in the years ahead and are doing all in their power to reduce the number of minorities in our Country, beginning with the President. You see in the racial profiling bills, the voter suppression laws, the destruction of unions, and now changing the 14th amendment.

Republican Congress Passes Secret MASS DEPORTATION & FAMILY SEPARATION BILLS and Hate Group BRAGS About It!

Anti Latino Hate Site - John Tanton's NumbersUSA BRAGS that the Republican (Tea Party) House has passed a slewof ANTI-Latino, ANTI-Immigration Reform bills AND ANTI DREAM ACT. They are bragging about the future Mass Deportation and separation of Latino Families. They are LAUGHING at Latinos and CHEERING their Hate Filled Republican representatives!!!
From NUMBERSUSA: House approves amendments to Homeland Security bill that increase interior enforcement and help secure the border Last night (Thursday), the House passed the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2013, and with it, eight amendments with the intent to increase interior enforcement and secure the border were approved and added to the final bill. Under House Leadership of the last few Congresses, it's been tough to get recorded votes from the full House, but the DHS spending bill is annual measure we can count on!
In total, there were eight immigration amendments that we (Anti Latino Hate Group) supported, and you helped support with your phone calls to Congress on Thursday. We were only able to get roll call votes on three of the eight, but those three votes will have an impact on our Congressional Grade Cards.
The first amendment to pass with a roll call was offered by Rep. Ted Poe (R-Texas) and Rep. Jason Altmire (D-Pa.). The amendment would reallocate $10 million from the Office of the Under Secretary of Management to Border Patrol for the sole purpose of building cell phone towers on the Southwest border with Mexico.
The need for cell phone towers along the border came during the aftermath of the murder of Arizona rancher Robert Krentz who was killed by an illegal alien on his property that runs adjacent to the border in early-2011. Kretnz's wife, Sue, believes that her husband was trying to call for help when he encountered the illegal alien on his property, but he was in a cell phone dead spot. Krentz was represented in Congress by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords who authored a bill to build the cell phone towers. Reps. Poe and Altmire wrote the amendment based on the concept of the Giffords' bill. It was approved by the House on Wednesday night by a 302-to-113 margin with 81 Democrats voting with the GOP majority.
The second amendment to pass with a roll call vote was offered by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) and would PROHIBIT the implementation and execution of the Morton Memos. ICE Director John Morton wrote three separate memos in 2011 that instructed immigration agents to use prosecutorial discretion when they came in contact with illegal aliens. The memos prioritized criminal illegal aliens over non-criminal aliens and specifically protected illegal aliens that could benefit from the DREAM Act. The memos, in effect, offered an administrative amnesty to certain illegal aliens. The amendment passed the House on Thursday by a 238-to-175 margin. The vote was split along party lines - ALL REPUBLICANS AND 10 DEMS.
The final amendment to pass with a roll call vote was offered by Rep. John Sullivan (R-Okla.) and would PROHIBIT the Department of Homeland Security from TERMINATING 287(g) agreements with local law enforcement agencies.(MUST PARTNER WITH ARPAIO LIKE AGENCIES) The 287(g) program allows local law enforcement to partner-up with ICE and facilitates the training of agents so they can enforce federal immigration laws. In Pres. Obama's 2013 proposed budget, he removed all funding for 287(g), but the DHS spending bill added the funding back in. Rep. Sullivan's amendment was offered to prevent the Administration from ending the program by simply terminating all the contracts. The amendment passed by a 250-to-164 margin with support from 18 Democrats.
The other amendments to pass without a roll call vote include:
Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) and David Schweikert's (R-Ariz.) amendment to prevent funds from going to sanctuary cities. As the former mayor of Hazleton, Pa., one of the first cities to pass immigration-enforcement ordinances, ending sanctuary cities is a priority for Rep. Barletta and he also has offered legislation in Congress to prevent federal funding from going to sanctuary cities. It's important to note that this amendment would only prevent DHS spending from going to these cities.
Rep. Diane Black's (R-Tenn.) amendment to prohibit the funding for a Public Advocate position within ICE. In February, the Obama Administration announced plans for this new position that would speak on behalf of illegal aliens. We believe that funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement should be used to enforce immigration laws instead of being used to advocate on behalf of illegal aliens.
Rep. Chip Cravaack's (R-Minn.) amendment would keep criminal illegal aliens in jail until they're deported. Rep. Cravaack also offered this amendment last year, and it was approved by the House. Certain criminal illegal aliens who are awaiting execution of their deportation orders are, by federal law, required to be detained until deported. But two years ago, a criminal illegal alien who had been convicted of multiple drunk driving charges and had deportation orders was released. He got behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol and caused an accident that killed one and injured two in Northern Virginia.
Rep. Sam Graves' (R-Ga.) amendment would prohibit funds from being used to implement or execute the "Provisional Unlawful Presence Waivers of Inadmissibility for Certain Immediate Relatives" rule proposed by DHS. (SEPARATE FAMILIES) The proposed rule was entered into the federal register earlier this year and proposes to allow immediate relatives of U.S. citizens to remain in the country while they await a waiver decision from DHS. Because the process to receive a green card for immediate family members can often be a lengthy one, some family members decide to enter the U.S. illegally and wait it out, however, they must apply and get processed for their green cards outside of the United States. When their number is called, they risk being detected by immigration agents when they leave the country, and that could result in either a 3-year or 10-year bar from entering the United States. In special cases, DHS will offer a waiver to the 3-year and 10-year bar, but this proposed rule would make most illegal aliens that fall under this category eligible for the waiver.
Rep. Tom Price's (R-Ga.) amendment would prohibit funds from being used to circumvent the enforcement of immigration laws. This amendment was actually combined with two other amendments to create an En Bloc Amendment. These amendments are usually grouped together because they receive unanimous support from the House.

Republicans' Plan to Demonize Latinos and their Families!

WASHINGTON -- The Republican House voted on Thursday to kill nearly every action by the Obama administration to reform the immigration enforcement system, approving amendments that would separate U.S. citizens from their undocumented spouses and end prioritization of deporting dangerous unauthorized immigrants.

"The administration is now saying, 'I don't like the laws, I won't enforce them,'" Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.) said in support of an amendment proposed by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). "It would be equitable to an officer saying, 'I'm not going to enforce any drug laws, because I want to wait -- I may see a bank robber.'"
That Republican amendment, and the 11 others offered and adopted by the GOP, stripped funding from government programs meant to make the immigration process, and treatment of immigrants, more humane and targeted toward the most dangerous. Many of the adopted measures transferred funding to border security, even though Customs and Border Protection would receive a $208 million increase in funding under Obama's proposed fiscal year 2013 budget.
Republicans have generally opposed every action by the Obama administration on immigration, even though deportations increased to record levels under his watch.

King's amendment -- one of the two that were introduced by the immigration hardliner and later approved -- promotes deportations and splitting up Latino families -- it would prohibit funding to implement the "Morton Memo," a document from Immigration and Customs Director John Morton in June 2011 that lays out priorities for deportation based on the fact that funding is too limited to deport all of the estimated 11 million undocumented people in the country. ICE took up a review in August 2011 under those guidelines to close deportation cases deemed low-priority -- an effort that so far has been less fruitful than expected.
Still, the administration and advocates argue that with limited funding, this type of prosecutorial discretion is necessary.
"You're going to go after the dangerous gang member before you're going to go after someone that is double parked or jaywalking," Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said in opposition to the amendment. "That is what police do all over the United States."
Another adopted amendment, proposed by Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), would ban the administration from granting waivers that would allow some undocumented family members of U.S. citizens -- spouses, parents and children -- to stay in the country while applying for legal status, which was proposed by Obama in January. Under current policy, those immediate family members must leave the country before they can return, without knowing when exactly they will be reunited with their U.S.-citizen families.

"This proposed rule ... makes it easier for illegals to stay in our country unlawfully," Graves said on the House floor. "But the core impact of the proposed rule would be to encourage relatives of U.S. citizens to come to the U.S. illegally."
Other adopted amendments included cutting funding for the ICE public advocate, a position created in February to work with stakeholders on their concerns about the system; blocking funding for a 2000 executive order that would aid non-English speakers; and banning so-called "sanctuary cities," which instruct police to avoid asking about immigration status because it is a federal duty.
Two Democratic amendments were adopted: Rep. Keith Ellison's (D-Minn.) amendment aimed at preventing racial profiling and a measure from Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.) to limit the use of unmanned drones.

Dream Student Elizabeth Olivas Earns Legal Status and Graduates with Honors!

Dreamers: You too can earn Legal status. Read about Elizabeth Olivas. If you are like Elizabeth, talk to an Immigration attorney. If you don't know an Immigration Attorney, go to your local Catholic Church and ask for their recommendations to find one.
(CNN) -- The Indiana high school student who was in danger of missing her graduation ceremony because of a visa mix-up in Mexico returned home early Friday morning. The smiling teen was met at the Indianapolis International Airport by her Dad and all of her family members, balloons and signs.

"Now I can continue to pursue my dreams," Elizabeth Olivas, 17, told reporters.
High school student Elizabeth Olivas had faced a three-year ban from the United States. Her attorney, Sarah Moshe, had said the U.S. State Department approved a waiver, allowing Olivas to return home and deliver the salutatorian speech at Frankfort High School on Saturday.

Elizabeth was an undocumented immigrant who was brought to the United States by her parents when she was 4. She traveled to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, last month to beat a deadline to apply for a visa. According to immigration laws, children of immigrant parents have until 180 days from their 18th birthday to leave the United States for their country of origin and apply for a visa. The consulate in Mexico granted Olivas an appointment for May 4. Her attorney, Moshe, calculated on two different legal calendars that the 180th day would fall on April 17, so Olivas departed for Mexico that day so not to miss many of her classroom courses in America. But at her May 4 appointment, Olivas was told she had left the United States on the 181st day.
The calendars her lawyer Moshe used did not account for the leap year. The mix-up could have meant Olivas would be banned from the United States for three years, living with her grandparents in Juarez until she could apply again.
"The waiver was approved, and we just finished issuing and printing her visa," read a statement from the U.S. State Department, according to Moshe. "We gave her the visa packet and she will be left the Consulate Thursday, visa in hand!. Congrats and best of luck to Elizabeth and her family! She is very lucky to have such a great team working on her behalf."
Olivas' father is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He filed an immigrant visa petition for his daughter to gain legal status. The petition process began years ago, but the process was slow, Olivas said. She said she had been "essentially begging for an appointment."
"The problem was we couldn't secure an appointment at the consulate," Moshe said.
In the six weeks since Olivas' arrival in Mexico, she participated in classes remotely with her laptop and kept her grades up during the final weeks of school.
Her only hope to return to Indiana quickly was a 400-page parental hardship waiver that she presented to U.S. consulate officials Thursday. Her appeal argued her diabetic father would suffer from being apart from his daughter.
Now back in the United States she plans to apply for permanent resident status.
Steve Edwards, principal at Frankfort High School, called Olivas a "phenomenal kid."
"She is a mentor to those younger than her," Edwards said. "There is just not a bad thing to say about Elizabeth. She's an awesome girl."
Olivas' medal and diploma were presented to her on Saturday, he said.
"Regardless of this whole process, she graduated on Saturday," Edwards said. "She gave her speech in front of the crowd. We are all so proud to see her graduate."
