Breaking News: The US Army is offering A Golden Ticket, Instant (6 mos) Citizenship, to Temporary Immigrants in the U.S. who know one or more of 35 languages excluding Spanish!

New York, Feb 15 (PTI) The US military, stretched thin in Afghanistan and Iraq, will recruit about 550 temporary immigrants, including those from India who know Hindi and Tamil, offering them a golden chance to become US citizens in as little as six months.The pilot programme, for the first time since the Vietnam War, will open the armed forces to temporary immigrants if they have lived in the United States for a minimum of two years, The New York Times reported quoting military officials familiar with the plan.The Army's one-year pilot programme will begin in New York City to recruit about 550 temporary immigrants who speak one or more of 35 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Igbo (a tongue spoken in Nigeria), Kurdish, Nepalese, Pashto, Russian and Tamil. Spanish speakers are not eligible. It will also include about 300 medical professionals to be recruited nationwide. Recruiting will start after Department of Homeland Security officials update an immigration rule in coming days. Immigrants who are permanent residents, with documents commonly known as green cards, have long been eligible to enlist. Recruiters expect that the temporary immigrants will have more education, foreign language skills and professional expertise than many Americans who enlist, helping the military to fill shortages in medical care, language interpretation and field intelligence analysis.

New Report: F.A.I.R., NumbersUSA, C.I.S. HATE GROUPS!

The Southern Poverty Law Center has published a new report outing F.A.I.R., NumbersUSA and C.I.S., as being both funded and founded by the racist John Tanton (and his sidekick Ira Mehlmann), affiliated with the KKK, White Nationalist Groups and Holocaust deniers. As my frequent readers know, I have reported this information for some time. It is heartening to know a fine, reputable, long term civil rights organization, SPLC, has produced a report sharing this information.

New Report: Three Leading Anti-Immigration Groups Share Extremist Roots

Three Washington, D.C., organizations most responsible for blocking comprehensive immigration reform in 2007 are part of a network of groups created by a man who has been at the heart of the white nationalist movement for decades, according to a report issued today by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The Nativist Lobby: Three Faces of Intolerance describes how the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) and NumbersUSA were founded and funded by John Tanton, a retired Michigan ophthalmologist who operates a racist publishing company and has written that to maintain American culture, "a European-American majority" is required.
"These groups have infiltrated the mainstream by presenting themselves as legitimate commentators, when, in reality, they were all conceived by a man who is convinced that non-white immigrants threaten America," said Mark Potok, director of the SPLC's Intelligence Project. "They have never strayed far from their roots."
The report examines how Tanton, who still sits on FAIR's board of directors, founded the racist Social Contract Press and has corresponded with Holocaust deniers, white nationalist intellectuals and Klan lawyers for decades — correspondence documented by his own writings stored at a University of Michigan library.

It also shows that FAIR has been aware of his views and activities for years.
FAIR, whose members have testified frequently before Congress, has hired as key officials men who also joined white supremacist groups. It has promoted racist conspiracy theories. And it has even accepted more than $1 million from the Pioneer Fund, a racist foundation devoted to proving a connection between race and intelligence, the report found.
FAIR has been designated as a hate group by the SPLC.
The report also examines how the Center for Immigration Studies — which bills itself as a scholarly think tank — began its life as a FAIR program and continues to produce dubious studies furthering FAIR's anti-immigration agenda. It's a vision described by Tanton in a 1985 letter in which he wrote that CIS would produce reports "for later passage to FAIR, the activist organization, to remedy."
Similarly, NumbersUSA, a group that has achieved dramatic policy successes, began its life as a Tanton foundation program, the report found. NumbersUSA Executive Director Roy Beck has even been described by Tanton as his "heir apparent." He also edited The Immigration Invasion, a book by Tanton and a colleague that was so raw in its immigrant bashing that Canadian border authorities have banned it as hate literature.

WASHINGTON – House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), and Immigration Subcommittee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Constitution Subcommittee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), and Crime Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Scott (D-Va.) called on Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to investigate allegations of misconduct by Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Sheriff Arpaio has repeatedly demonstrated disregard for the rights of Hispanics in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Under the guise of immigration enforcement, his staff has conducted raids in residential neighborhoods in a manner condemned by the community as racial profiling. On February 4, 2009, Arpaio invited the media to view the transfer of immigrant detainees to a segregated area of his "tent city" jail, subjecting the detainees to public display and "ritual humiliation." Persistent actions such as these have resulted in numerous lawsuits; while Arpaio spends time and energy on publicity and his reality television show, "Smile… You’re Under Arrest!", Maricopa County has paid millions of dollars in settlements involving dead or injured inmates.
"Racial profiling and segregation are simply not acceptable." said Conyers. "Media stunts and braggadocio are no substitute for fair and effective law enforcement."
"The basic premise of our justice system is that people are innocent until proven otherwise," said Rep. Zoe Lofgren. "I’m concerned that in Maricopa County that basic premise appears to have been turned upside down and that Latino members of community are considered "undocumented" until proven otherwise. That’s not how our Constitution works and it’s time for the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security to take a closer look."
"We cannot tolerate vigilantes using the police power to violate the fundamental rights of anyone they can get their hands on," said Nadler. "Sheriff Arpaio has consistently abused his office in violation of federal law. It is time for the federal government to step in and uphold the rule of law in this country, even in Maricopa County." "Law enforcement is not a game or a reality show, it is a public trust," said Scott. "There is no excuse for callous indifference to the rights of the residents of Arizona, whether in their neighborhoods or as pretrial detainees."

The racial profiling case launched on behalf of several Valley residents by the American Civil Liberties Union against Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office has been allowed to proceed by a federal judge. In her ruling yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge Mary Murguia rejected a call by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to dismiss the case based on several legal arguments.
If you'll recall, this case involves a cross-section of Hispanics in America, including an aide to the mayor of Phoenix, a law-abiding green-card holder, and working-class, American siblings with criminal records. The lawsuit goes to the heart of the debate over Arpaio's anti-illegal-immigrant programs, alleging the sheriff's tactics are resulting in serious civil rights abuses...

The Judge ruled:

With respect to whether Plaintiffs have sufficiently plead a discriminatory purpose, the Complaint is replete with references to acts of intentional discrimination by Defendants against Plaintiffs on the basis of race. Examples of such intentional discrimination include allegations that Defendant Arpaio made a public statement that physical appearance alone is sufficient to question an individual about their immigration status (RACIAL PROFILING) that MCSO's crime suppression sweeps have been allegedly targeted at areas having a high concentration of Hispanics, and that the MCSO has used (masked) volunteers to assist in these crime sweeps who have known animosity towards Hispanics and immigrants.

Bernie Madoff and his wife get on my nerves! Madoff is the swindler investment banker who stole more than $50Billion in a Ponzi scheme from banks, charities, retired investors and celebrities worldwide. In some cases, he wiped out the savings of retirees in their 80s and 90s who were relying on that money to pay for their stays in retirement homes. Now they are out on the streets.

Today, news reports are saying his wife withdrew more than $15 million from one of his accounts just days before his arrest. Madoff is under house arrest in his luxury Manhattan penthouse. The U.S. Attorney's Office bought more time to probe his case. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 13.
I think Madoff should be thrown in jail pending his court case. Why not? The courts could do it. Why should he be allowed to use the money of those he cheated to post bond and to buy expensive lawyers while his wife makes every attempt to hide the stolen money.

What galls me most about this case is the so-called rule of law advocates are not upset about it. This man stole FIFTY BILLION DOLLARS. He wiped out the savings of thousands of people, especially of retirees. But the right wingers are not upset. Rush Limbaugh is not upset. Malkin and her minions are not upset. Alipac is not upset. None of those who moan and groan about their so called "rule of law" are not upset. They are not forming websites or deluging Congress with hate emails, faxes and phone calls. They are not frothing at the mouth as they do about "illegal immigrants."

Madoff STOLE $50 Billion Dollars! Countless number of elderly are being thrown out on the streets because they can no longer afford their rest homes. And he is using their money to post bond!

Where are all the ANTI websites clamoring to Congress to put this wretched felonious criminal behind bars?

Why is Madoff allowed to post bail with his ill gotten gains and allowed a bracelet to stay in his luxurious million dollar penthouse in Manhattan?

Where are the rallying cries of the costs? the Losses? the Rule of Law he broke and shattered?

Where is the outcry as his wife steals millions and hides these funds in some secret overseas bank accounts?

Shhhhh......Listen......You can hear a pin drop. The ANTI voices are SILENT!!!

But that is so typical. They were just as silent over the crimes committed by Blackwater, Halliburton, Big Business Employers, abuses in the Detention Centers, the Hate Crime deaths, the Drug Cartels in the US, the US being the Number 1 drug user, the 2000 guns a day being sent to Mexico from the US, and on and on.

The next time they whine about the dollars spent on Education of those they term "illegal immigrants" I am going to say, "Where was your "rule of law anger" about Madoff?"

WASHINGTON – The Senate voted on Tuesday to approve an $838 billion economic stimulus plan that stands to become the most expansive anti-recession effort by the United States government since World War II. Congressional leaders said they would immediately begin to work out the differences between the Senate measure and an $820 billion version passed by the House, with President Obama also likely to have a strong voice in the talks.

As the Senate voted on the recovery package, President Obama told an audience at a town meeting in Fort Myers, Fla.: “Doing nothing is not an option. You didn’t send me to Washington to do nothing.”
Despite numerous differences in the two bills approved in the Senate and the House, the overall scope of the economical recovery effort is now clear — sprawling in its reach, with tax cuts for individuals, families and businesses, assistance for jobless and low income Americans, aid to states, and huge spending on education, healthcare, energy and technology.

The bill passed on a mostly party-line vote of 61-37. Sixty votes were needed. Three Republicans joined Democrats in passage..Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter...The negotiations (to reconcile both the Senate & House versions of the bill)...could last through next week, potentially passing President Obama's Feb. 16 President's Day deadline.

Economic Woes Compel Workers to Repatriate with Help from Home Country's Consulate

The Guatemalan Consulate in Los Angeles paid for Pedro Pablos bus ticket home to Guatemala. He came to America seeking the American Dream. His first three years, he worked constantly in a variety of construction jobs. This year, he only worked 3 days. He can no longer afford to live in the U.S. He decided to return home to Guatemala, but wanting to avoid the violence of overzealous Arpaio type cops and inhumane treatment in the detention centers, he contacted his Guatemalan Consulate who provided him the ticket and sufficient documentation to return home safely and legally.

I commend the Consulate for providing this assistance. It is logical, voluntary but most of all, it is safe and humane. This is a model that workers, citizens and humanitarians can all support. As I earlier reported, other countries, like India, are providing the same repatriating services.

These type of programs cost the U.S. nothing.

Our country spends hundreds of millions of dollars funding privately owned detention centers full of non-felonious workers. They are farmers, seamstresses, meatpackers and technical workers. Sheriff Arpaio spends millions Racial Profiling and incarcerating non-felonious workers, humiliating them, as he marches them through the streets to gain media attention for himself. None of these tactics work. The costs are outrageous. They are abusive and inhumane.

ICE owns a fleet of Con-Air type planes they use to repatriate workers to their home country. Of course these flights are involuntary as the workers are swept away into the night and flown to some unknown town in their home country, no one waiting for them, no one knowing they are arriving, families in America only knowing they disappeared. ICE flew 367,000 of them "home" last year.

Then you have Tucson Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Robert Gilbert. He does not believe in repatriation. He prefers prosecuting and jailing them. He prefers "teaching them a lesson." He prosecuted 13,000 "illeeegals" last year, bloating his budget by jailing them for 180 days, then dumping them into some unknown location in the deep interior of Mexico. No family. No notice. Just an unknown dumping ground. The enigma about this man is he married an illegal immigrant from Peru and side stepped the standard immigration policies, expediting the process via marriage. His wife wanted the same thing the migrant workers want, the attainment of the American Dream.

Given the state of our current economy, there are those here that are willing to repatriate to their home countries. We have two options. We can treat people like human beings or we can treat them as subhumans.

I choose Humanity!
