Romney is attempting to backpaddle away from his comments at an Arizona debate in February, though widely read as an endorsement of SB 1070, refer specifically to the separate E-Verify law. "I think you see a model here in Arizona," Romney said at the time. "They passed a law here that says that people who come here and try to find work, that the employer is required to look them up on E-Verify. This E-Verify system allows employers in Arizona to know who's here legally and who's not here legally. And as a result of E-Verify being put in place, the number of people in Arizona that are here illegally has dropped by some 14 percent."
Pearce said Tuesday that he hadn't heard anything to indicate Romney did not believe SB 1070 should be a model. Romney has said repeatedly that he supports the Arizona's right to pass such a law and would drop a federal lawsuit against it were he elected -- perhaps not an explicit endorsement, but one that implies he supports the law, at least for Arizona. Romney also has advocated for what he called "self-deportation," or making things difficult for undocumented immigrants until they decide to leave, one of the central tenets of the Arizona law. One of his informal advisers on immigration, SB 1070 architect and Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach, supports the law as a model for nationwide enforcement.
"[Self-deportation] is in SB 1070," Pearce said.

Russell Pearce's Lying Substitute Teacher Friend A Wife and Dog Beater!
Russell Pearce's friend, State Congresswoman Lori Klein, read a letter from a substitute teacher, Anthony Hill, on the floor of the Arizona Senate. Klein read the letter from this sub teacher to "prove" that ALL Latino Students are a threat to all White Americans and to suggest these students "Hate America" and support "Reconquista." Klein did not name the sub teacher nor the school, nor any PROOF that the allegations in the letter were true. Yet, they READ the letter into the State Congressional Record, as FACTS to support their supposition that ALL Latinos are a "Threat to WHITE America." AZ Rep Steve Gallardo stood up to Klein and immediately repudiated her racist rant into the Congressional record. However, State Senator Russell Pearce supported both Klein and the sub teacher, Anthony Hill claiming Hill's accusations were TRUE. Pearce even challenged Gallardo, providing the name of the teacher, Anthony Hill. Hill himself, continued to spout his allegations about what happened on that one day as substitute teacher in the one day class. He went so far as to say to those who accused him of racism, "How can I be racist? I have a Latino wife." Now, investigative reporter Paul Rubin, reports the results of his research into the background of sub-teacher Anthony Hill. Rubin's research includes court documentation that says the teacher: 1. Choked his Latino ex-Wife (legally separated) 2. Abused their pet dog 3. Required "Anger Management" training 4. Awarded his estranged Latino wife with SOLE Custody of their children 5. Awarded his estranged Latino wife a RESTRAINING ORDER Hill also: 1. Threatened his work supervisor 2. His estranged wife "fled the marital home with the minor children and all pets! (That's why the restraining order was granted) 3. All the children are in fear of their father and agreed their father was NOT sincere about his past behavior! 4. Court files indicate he was suspended from his job at a supermarket for his "Irrational behavior" and he was hospitalized for depression. This is Senator Pearce's friend. This is the man whose words were read, by State Rep Klein into the Congressional Record. It is clear that Pearce and Klein's agenda is to instill FEAR and HATRED into their WHITE Supporters AGAINST All American Latinos! The Arizona Senate has defeated bills intended to force a Supreme Court ruling against automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants. Three other major bills aimed at illegal immigration — one to require hospitals to check legal status of patients, another that would require schools to do the same of its students and an omnibus bill that would strip rights ranging from owning a vehicle to getting a marriage license — also went down in defeat in the state Senate.
The automatic citizenship bills were defeated on votes of 12-18 and 11-19 as majority Republicans split on the issue. That’s right folk, a solid win for human and civil rights as the hateful agenda of Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce was rejected on a bi-partisan vote.
The bills defeated were:
SB1611– “Immigration Omnibus” or the “Throwing Arizona Under-the-Bus”bill –Sponsored by Senator Russell Pearce, this bill is a 30-page, measure requiring business owners, police officers, apartment renters, school employees, and others to verify citizenship, notify immigration and in some cases, failure to do so could result in loss of licenses, certification or imprisonment.
SB1308 and 1309 – “Eroding Children’s Futures and the Constitution” bills. Two bills introduced by Senator Ron Gould to create a new Arizona Citizenship that excludes children born to parents in the U.S. without immigration authorization. The bills were an attempt to ignite a national legal battle challenging the 14th amendment of the Constitution’s recognition of birthright citizenship.
SB1407 and 1141 – “Schools as Immigration Checkpoints” bills. Two bills introduced by Senator Steve Smith that would have required K-12 schools to report on the immigration status of their students. Failure to comply would have resulted in loss of funding.
SB1405 –“Turning Health Providers into Health Deniers” bill. This bill introduced by Senator Steve Smith would have required hospital employees to verify the citizenship of people seeking emergency and non-emergency medical attention and to notify immigration agents if someone could not prove they are authorized to be in the U.S.

60 Arizona Executives say 'NO' to Russell Pearce and "NO" to more Immigration Bills
So much for Latinos, Immigrants and "Illeegals" being a "drain" on States' Economies! Today, 60 Arizona Businesses sent a direct message to Arizona's ANTI-Latino/ANTI-Immigrant (legal or not) State Rep. Russell Pearce.azcentral.com reports:
More boycotts, more protests, more lost business. Arizona doesn't need this. The state Senate is looking at a reckless, costly and counterproductive package of immigration bills. Senate President Russell Pearce said, in a meeting with the Editorial Board, that he saw no downside to last year's misguided Senate Bill 1070.
Sixty top Arizona executives know the reality. In a virtually unprecedented move, they sent a joint letter to Pearce urging him not to pass any more immigration bills. These are the leaders who cross the economic spectrum in Arizona, from health care and development to tourism and automotive. Their company names are familiar: US Airways, PetSmart, Sunbelt Holdings, Intel Corp. They include The Arizona Republic. They can point to the cancellations, the missed opportunities and the lost jobs.
They know how much Arizona, a state that depends so much on tourism, feels the bite of controversial legislation that clouds our reputation. SB 1070 created such a noxious cloud of bad P.R. that Gov. Jan Brewer put $250,000 into repairing the state's image. And now the Senate is deciding whether to give Arizona another self-inflicted bad eye. Imagine the spectacle of mass protests as Arizona hosts Major League Baseball's All-Star Game for the first time in July.
Arizona is getting a global brand, and it's not the Grand Canyon State, but the place that is hostile to Hispanics and immigrants. The latest package of bills is profoundly divisive in a state with a Hispanic population of 30 percent - and growing. There's a problem: The federal government hasn't dealt with illegal immigration. But it requires a federal solution.
The unintended consequences are breathtaking. And so risky that 60 executives are sounding the alarm. The Senate should listen.

When the AZGOP dropped SB1070 onto the heads of migrant and Latino communities, there were immediate calls for a boycott. Rep. Raúl Grijalva bravely joined the movement, putting his political future at risk but ultimately won his reelection in November 2010. Unfortunately, that election also saw a huge wave of conservatism sweep a veto-proof GOP supermajority into both the state House & Senate chambers. The agenda is now driven by the author of SB1070 himself, Russell Pearce (R-National Alliance), who was installed as Senate President in January.
When Pearce took the reins, he declared that Arizona would have the country's first Tea Party Senate.
A blog from Pearce picked up by the Sonoran Alliance website is signed “Russell Pearce…Tea Party Senate President-Elect.” He said in the blog, “I consider this to be the Tea Party Senate and we intend to take back America one state at a time.” - AZCentral.com
That threat - and it is a threat - is becoming reality. Yesterday, the state's Senate Appropriations Committee became the first in the nation to advance a repeal of birthright citizenship for a full vote.
After a rocky start, the birthright legislation finally received committee approval on Feb. 22, overcoming the initial hurdle before the full Senate can debate and vote on the measure that is stirring so much raw emotion and is solidifying Arizona’s reputation as ground zero in the struggle to confront illegal immigration. By an 8-to-5 vote that hewed nearly along party lines, the Senate Appropriations Committee gave the green light to a two-bill proposal whose ultimate aim is to get the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit the issue of American citizenship, though critics question whether the judiciary would actually answer this exact issue and not dismiss the legislation on some other grounds. - AZ Capitol Times
Yesterday's hearing was packed with a passionate audience on both sides. Interestingly enough, the Chamber spoke out against the bill because they fear an even worse backlash than the one from SB1070, proving that the boycott is working. There's an opportunity to drive a wedge between them if an economic populist message starts entering the conversation as to why voters should reject the AZGOP's extremist agenda.
"Russell Pearce's vision for Arizona is killing jobs, etc etc" ...because it's clear that the moral argument falls on deaf ears in this state. Of course, it's vital that it continues to be made strongly, and it will.
There's really no end in sight to what these Tea Party bigots have planned for the state. From banning race-based abortions to saving the republic from the threat of healthcare for the poor, it's no wonder that Baja Arizona is starting to organize a secession of its own.

Sitting here reading the latest but of trite propaganda from Willy Gheen and ALIPAC, I see irony in what Stephen Lemmons of Phoenix New Times wrote about the decision of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down a decidedly racist provision of Prop 200, that sought to make proving one’s citizenship a prerequisite for voter registration.
The unelected governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer made the normal statement of outrage, which we expect every time their attempts to usurp Federal law fails.
“The decision is an outrage,” Governor Jan Brewer and Secretary of State Ken Bennett announced in a joint statement, “and a slap in the face to all Arizonans who care about the integrity of their elections.”
The statement continues, “Arizona voters have made their will crystal clear — non-citizens do not have the right to vote.”
PNT clarified:
Which is a classic straw man argument, because non-citizens didn’t have the right to vote in federal elections before Prop 200, any more than they do after this ruling. As the decision itself points out, the National Voter Registration Act, which supersedes Prop 200, requires registrants to sign and attest under penalty of perjury that they are citizens.
The NVRA details federal penalties for voter fraud and voter registration fraud, making such activities punishable by up to five years in prison. Moreover, voting by an illegal alien is expressly forbidden by 18 USC 611, and punishable by up to a year in prison.
You see, Prop 200 had nothing to do with preventing non-citizens from voting. In fact, in the year or so before it was passed, it was widely reported that instances of voter fraud involving non-citizens were practically non-existent.
At the time, Maricopa County elections director Karen Osborne told the Arizona Republic that, “If we have one case a year, it’s an amazement.”
Why I bring up the whacked out President of ALIPAC is he constantly tries to convince the know nothings in American society that that the world is ending because millions of illegals will be voting in the mid terms.
Even Steven Camorata, director of research for the nativist Center for Immigration Studies, admitted to the Republic that very few illegal immigrants actually attempt to vote for the obvious reason: They don’t want to tip off authorities to the fact that they are here and undocumented.
Prop 200 also required proof of citizenship when applying for non-federally mandated programs. But the impact of that provision was minimal. Illegal immigrants were already prohibited from receiving most public assistance by the 1996 welfare reform signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
Indeed, the nativist Federation for American Immigration Reform itself notes the following on its Web site:
“llegal immigrants are barred from the following federal public benefits: grants, contracts, loans, licenses, retirement, welfare, health, disability, public or assisted housing, post secondary education, food assistance, and unemployment benefits. States are barred from providing state or locally funded benefits to illegal immigrants unless a state law is enacted granting such authority.”
ALIPAC proudly associates itself with another section of the nativist Tanton network, NUMBERSUSA.
Lemmons goes on to explain the expected outrage by the right wing loons, and no doubt with ALIPAC in mind.
Only the part of Prop 200 pertaining to showing “documentary proof of citizenship” was struck down. Folks are still required to show ID at the polls. The suggestion by some right-wing blogs that the court has opened the gate to massive voter fraud is complete hooey.
Right-wingers don’t want eligible Latinos to register to vote. That’s because they’ve spent so much of their time of late alienating Latinos by spewing nativist rhetoric. They want this state to continue to be dominated by a white, reactionary elite.
Racist laws such Prop 200 and SB 1070 help them maintain their political hegemony by keeping the brown folk at bay. For the moment, that is. For the moment.
And that is exactly what is happening now as the ALICRAPPERS are calling for charges of treason against former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner who was part of this righteous decision.

If you thought AZ's STATE senate bill1070 was bad, wait until you hear this. Nativist AZ senator and friend of White Supremists - Russell Pearce is partnering again with extremist (Hate Group FAIR Member) Kris Kobach with a new STATE bill...this time to deny Citizenship to the CITIZEN CHILDREN of Latino Undocumented Immigrants in the STATE of Arizona.
Kobach this week confirmed that he is working with Pearce to write a STATE bill that would develop a STATE law to change the way children born in ARIZONA to illegal immigrants are granted citizenship. Kobach helped Pearce write STATE senate bill 1070. Pearce has said he will propose the STATE bill when the legislative session starts in January. Kobach would not say what that STATE bill might look like but we can only expect the worst.
Pearce and Kobach, both Teaparty members, who SAY they are supporters of the Constitution, SHOULD try to remember the first bullet from the 14th ammendment of the Constitution:
"No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States"

While not new, the term is increasingly part of the local vernacular because the primary authors of the nation's toughest and most controversial immigration law are targeting these tots — the legal weights that anchor many undocumented aliens in the U.S. — for their next move.
Buoyed by recent public opinion polls suggesting they're on the right track with illegal immigration, Arizona Republicans will likely introduce legislation this fall that would deny birth certificates to children born in Arizona — and thus American citizens according to the U.S. Constitution — to parents who are not legal U.S. citizens. The law largely is the brainchild of state Sen. Russell Pearce, a Republican whose suburban district, Mesa, is considered the conservative bastion of the Phoenix political scene. He is a leading architect of the Arizona law that sparked outrage throughout the country: Senate Bill 1070, which allows law enforcement officers to ask about someone's immigration status during a traffic stop, detainment or arrest if reasonable suspicion exists — things like poor English skills, acting nervous or avoiding eye contact during a traffic stop.
But the likely new bill is for the kids. While SB 1070 essentially requires of-age migrants to have the proper citizenship paperwork, the potential "anchor baby" bill blocks the next generation from ever being able to obtain it. The idea is to make the citizenship process so difficult that illegal immigrants pull up the "anchor" and leave.
The question is whether that would violate the U.S. Constitution. The 14th Amendment states that "all persons, born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States." It was intended to provide citizenship for freed slaves and served as a final answer to the Dred Scott case, cementing the federal government's control over citizenship.
But that was 1868. Today, Pearce says the 14th Amendment has been "hijacked" by illegal immigrants. "They use it as a wedge," Pearce says. "This is an orchestrated effort by them to come here and have children to gain access to the great welfare state we've created." Pearce says he is aware of the constitutional issues involved with the bill and vows to introduce it nevertheless. "We will write it right." He and other Republicans in the red state Arizona point to popular sympathy: 58% of Americans polled by Rasmussen think illegal immigrants whose children are born here should not receive citizenship; support for that stance is 76% among Republicans.
Those who oppose the bill say it would lead to more discrimination and divide the community. Among them is Phoenix resident Susan Vie, who is leading a citizen group that's behind an opposing ballot initiative. She moved to the U.S. 30 years ago from Argentina, became a naturalized citizen and now works as a client-relations representative for a vaccine company. "I see a lot of hate and racism behind it," Vie says. "Consequently, I believe it will create — and it's creating it now — a separation in our society." She adds, "When people look at me, they will think, 'Is she legal or illegal?' I can already feel it right now." Vie's citizen initiative would prohibit SB 1070 from taking affect, place a three-year moratorium on all related laws — including the anchor baby bill — to buy more time for federal immigration reform. Her group is racing to collect 153,365 signatures by July 1 to qualify for the Nov. 2 general election.
Both sides expect the anchor baby bill to end up before the U.S. Supreme Court before it is enacted. "I think it would be struck down as facially unconstitutional. I can't imagine a federal judge saying this would be OK," says Dan Barr, a longtime Phoenix lawyer and constitutional litigator. Potentially joining the anchor baby bill at the Supreme Court may be SB 1070, which Arizona Republican Governor Jan Brewer signed into law in April. It is set to take effect July 29, but at least five courtroom challenges have been filed against it. Pearce says he will win them all.

White Supremist supporter Pearce EXPLOITS Good Samaritan's Untimely Death for their Racial Profiling, Anti-Immigrant Agenda!
Russell Pearce, Arpaio and other like minded, white supremist supported extremists are promoting the death of rancher Robert Krentz as the reason their xenophobic and restrictionist laws should be passed. This is an aberration.Let me tell you the story of Robert Krentz. Rancher Krentz was known among fellow ranchers as a good Samaritan who often helped injured illegal immigrants trying to cross the boiling desert border into Arizona. He was a churchgoing man who routinely went out of his way to help those in need. He said, " if they come in and ask for water, I'll still give them water," he said. "I -- you know, that's just my nature."
Rancher Krentz owned a ranch about 35 miles outside of the Mexico Border town of Douglas, Arizona. His family has been ranching in southern Arizona since 1907.
On Saturday, March 27, 2010, while tending to his ranch, he was shot and killed. Police have not made any arrests and they do not have any suspects.
That Saturday morning, Krentz radioed his brother Phil between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. He said he encountered an illegal immigrant, and was supposed to meet Phil on the ranch at noon. Hours later, when Krentz didn't show up, Phil called police, and a search team was soon scouring the sprawling desert 15 miles north of the border, near Douglas, Ariz. At around 11 p.m. that night, over 12 and a half hours after the morning call, a state police helicopter found Krentz slumped over his ATV, the engine and lights still on. Nearby, his dog lay critically wounded, also hit by a bullet. The dog died the next day. The police, utilizing tracker dogs, discovered footprints which trailed 15 miles southward, into Mexico.
The police have arrested no suspects and have no idea who committed the crime. They do have some potential scenarios which include:
1. Drug Cartel Scout: The Chirachua mountains in southeast Arizona are 11,000 feet tall, rugged and remote. It is a popular drug corridor and the killer may have been clearing the way for a load of drugs moving north when Krentz surprised him.
2. Suspect belonged to a Band of Thieves: A band of thieves have been terrorizing the remote ranches spattered around the Douglas area. Not only is this a Police scenario, this is a scenario supported by other ranchers. Rancher Krentz was shot with a 9mm Glock. Coincidentally, a 9mm Glock was stolen from a home in Portal just a few miles away," said rancher Roger Barnett. "There is no way to know for sure it was the murder weapon. But the bullet that killed Rob and his dog was a 9mm."
3. Retaliation: The day before the killing, Krentz's brother Phil stopped a caravan of illegal immigrants carrying 280 pounds of marijuana. All eight were arrested by the border patrol and the pot was impounded.
These potential scenarios are all GUESSES by the police and local ranchers. They actually have NO IDEA who shot Rancher Krentz. The odd part, according to local land owners, is that the killer was apparently alone. Illegal immigrants crossing the border usually hire coyotes to help them pass and travel in groups or 5, 10, 20 or more. They NEVER cross alone.
None of these FACTS deter the xenophobes like Russell Pearce, Arpaio or J.D. Hayworth who are pushing the ANTI Immigrant, ANTI Latino agenda. They exploit Rancher Krentz's sad and untimely death for their own political purposes and to push their own xenophobic agenda. For them to do this totally denigrates Good Samaritan Krentz's image. He was known as a Humanitarian and died an untimely and sad death. For the xenophobes and white supremist supporters to use his name and his death for their unscrupulous purposes is WRONG! They PRETEND to support the Constitution and the Bill of Rights but yet they rush to judgement, accuse an ENTIRE RACE of being GUILTY of this crime, and Rush to Judgement by imposing unconstitutional Racially Profiling Laws all in pursuit of their own xenophobic agenda.
The TRUTH IS, the Police and local Law Enforcement DO NOT KNOW who murdered Rancher Krentz. All we know is he called his brother at 10:30 am on that Saturday morning, and was not found until 11pm that night. He was shot and killed by a 9mm Glock. The police found footprints who they suspect might be the perpetrator, leading into Mexico. Was it the murderer? Was he part of the group committing robberies in the area? Was he an illegal immigrant? Police suspect a lone person. If it was a lone person, then that lone person is the perpetrator, NOT all Latinos and NOT ALL undocumented people in the U.S.
ANTIs should follow their own advice. Don't Rush to Judgement. Let the police do their job. Find the perp. Charge him. He and he alone is Innocent until proven guilty. If found guilty, he will serve his time. DO NOT exploit this man's death for your own Racial Profiling agenda!
