Guest Voz -Geraldo Rivera: After the Tucson Safeway Murders -- What Happens Now?

Guest Voz - Geraldo Rivera: What Happens Now? (A Republican Perspective)
Despite calls for civility, and reduced decibel politics, the debate rages loudly over whether accused mass murderer Jared Loughner was inspired, motivated, instigated and/or encouraged by the acrimonious political climate in Tucson and the rest of the country. Or, was he simply an aberrant, insane, psychotic, sociopathic nut job who would have acted out violently even if he lived in Cape Cod or San Francisco? My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the ultimate answer will be both. He’s clearly crazy, but as the records show, he was also obsessed with targeting Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords (‘my assassination’ he called the pending attack) and had been obsessed with her since 2007.

Why her? Did she in some way ‘insult’ him by replying to his nutty inquiries with a form letter? Maybe? But remember, I went to college in Tucson. It is essentially a small town where the race for Congress dominates the newspaper, talk radio and local TV scene in a way the mayoral race does New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Anyone who thinks this one particular loon was somehow insulated or isolated from the impassioned and sometimes ugly 24/7 shouting that accompanied her hotly contested congressional campaigns in 2008 and 2010, not to mention her vote in favor of health care, is in denial.

Could that be considered political? Does it have anything to do with the Tea Party or Sarah Palin? Probably not. Given the disturbing revelations of his twisted mind, he might have otherwise been obsessed with fluoride in toothpaste or 9/11 as an ‘Inside Job’ or, illegal Mexican immigration into Southern Arizona where that searing hot button issue is debated emotionally everyday/all day. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter why he did it because every fruit cake mass killer has a reason justifying his hideous criminality. Timmy McVeigh in Oklahoma City murdered 168 of his fellow Americans because of his twisted political vision of government over-reaching. Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas murdered JFK, the young and gracious 35th president because of Oswald’s professed distress over our policy toward Cuba and the Communist world. And Major Nidal Hassan massacred 13 GI’s in Fort Hood, presumably because of our wars against his fellow radical Islamists.

But Jared Loughner is more like Seung-Hui Cho, the murderer of 32 fellow students at Virginia Tech. Cho was also pissed off at life and, like Loughner, choose to vent his apocryphal frustration on any innocent in his disgusting path.
Some predictions:
1- The mass murder in Tucson will cause us to re-consider the treatment of the mentally ill. We won’t return to the bad old days when husbands could get their wives institutionalized because of a domestic squabble, or grandma because she has a boyfriend and is threatening to squander the inheritance. But when evidence is amassed that someone is a danger to themselves or others, as the unequivocal record shows in the case of Jared Loughner, there will be more of a legal and moral burden on schools, and more importantly, families and friends to report aberrant behavior to mental health authorities or law enforcement. Processes are already in place, and sufficient statutory authority already exists to intervene.

2- However unfairly, this event will have at least a short-term negative effect on the presidential aspirations of Sarah Palin. Her discordant and horribly mistimed ‘blood libel’ video response to those seeking to link her to the Tucson shooter will be played and re-played as an example of intemperance under fire.

3- Again, however inequitably, the Tea Party movement will be diminished because the anger it musters at government will be viewed as unseemly, again, at least in the short-term. With that roaring tiger marginalized; pragmatic, innovative professionals like Mitt Romney, Governor Mitch Daniels, Senator Scott Brown and Jeb Bush will quietly re-take the soul of the Republican Party. I mention former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who is now my favorite politician for reasons other than his Mexican wife, fluency in Spanish, or rational stance on immigration reform. The work done during his tenure in office and more recently by his educational foundation has wrought a miracle in terms of educational attainment by Hispanic youngsters. I’ll have more on that next week. But here’s what he told me Thursday regarding the events in Arizona during my exclusive interview on the eve of his Hispanic Leadership Network conference in Miami. Regarding the aftermath of the Tucson shooting: “It has given people a chance to maybe pause and think is it appropriate to be jabbering at each other; yelling and screaming at each other as we are prone to do in politics when these things happen? Or going forward, is there a lesson to be learned that maybe we can be more civil?” he said, adding, “I think we have really gone beyond the pale as it relates to personalizing political discourse, not focused on the substance of the conversation. So if this, even though it is not necessarily related, gives people a chance to pause on the left and the right and say we can have a conversation and then defend our views without raising the decibel level…I hope that happens.”

I do too, and so do most Americans, left, right and center.

Geraldo - Dobbs FaceOff: Will Geraldo Quit If Dobbs Joins Fox?

ThinkProgress reports:
The New York Daily News reports that a “well-placed source” claims that Geraldo Rivera has told Fox News president Roger Ailes that he’ll quit if former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs is hired by the network. Rivera has denied by the rumor, but has also made clear that Dobbs would not be welcomed with open arms:

Rivera, who has blasted the nativist Dobbs for his “slander” against Latinos,
tells us [New York Daily News], “I never threatened to quit.” But he did let
Ailes know he wouldn’t welcome working with the man who has called him a
“cowardly liar.” Says Geraldo: “The last time I checked, no one here was
talking to the a——.”
Still, Ailes is said to be considering Dobbs for the Fox Business Channel. “The trouble is Dobbs wants too much money – like $8 million a year,” says an insider. “But Dobbs doesn’t have much leverage.
Since he quit CNN, he can’t go to CNBC.” Hiring him at Fox Business is bound to irk that
channel’s Dobbs-phobes, John Stossel and Stuart Varney. But a rep for Ailes insists he isn’t eyeing Dobbs for anything.

Chances are Rivera’s spat with Dobbs has become deeply personal. In October, Rivera credited Dobbs for being “almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of the young-Latino-as-scapegoat for everything that ails this country.” Dobbs responded by describing Rivera as “annoying” and full of “vile stupidity and ignorance that he spews everywhere he goes.”
Curiously, Rivera doesn’t seem to have a big problem working with other Latino- and immigrant-bashers at his network. The blame doesn’t just rest on Dobbs’ shoulders when it comes to generating an atmosphere of hate, misinformation, and fear that surrounds the immigration issue. Fox News anchors
Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and many others have all served up a daily dose of slander. While Rivera has heatedly challenged his colleagues’ views, he certainly hasn’t put his job on the line over such differences.

Loco Lou Dobbs Claims he was Shot At! Blames Geraldo! ANTI Websites Reporting LIES as Truth!

Ole Dobbs had his feeling hurt when Geraldo Rivera said of Dobbs “he's almost single-handedly responsible for creating, for being the architect of 'the young-Latino-as-scapegoat' for everything that ails this country.” Geraldo's statement is SO TRUE! However, this made ole Dobbs loco. Dobbs responded by SPINNING STORIES/LIES so Tall of a 3 Week Old Magic Bullet that Never Was!!
Advice to Lou: Try telling the TRUTH for a change and tell Geraldo you are sorry!

On Lou Dobbs' 10/26/09 radio show, ole Lou starts out his show by saying "I want to tell you a STORY!" And what a creative story he tells. It changes and metamorphosizes throughout the tale weaving. First he says this STORY happened 3 weeks ago. "A shot was fired at my HOUSE." Dobbs then starts weaving this unbelievable tale. Later in the story, he says his WIFE was standing 15 feet away from the bullet. Let's get this straight Lou. You start out your tale by saying your HOUSE was shot at. Then you say your wife was 15 feet away, so now the tale becomes "My WIFE was shot at while she was standing next to the car."

Then you continue your tale. You then say "Your Car, Your House, Your Wife, You, and your Driver" were shot at with that one crazy bullet THREE Weeks ago.

Then you go on your diatribe blaming (as you say --little fools like) Geraldo Rivera, "La Raza", LULAC, MALDEF, and America's Voice for telling the truth about your extreme ANTI Immigration Reform propaganda you spew.

Tell me this Dobbs. They are using their 1st amendment rights to tell the truth about you. You say they are destroying you. Then you weave it into "they take their best SHOT at me." Then you weave your unbelievable tale about your car, no your house, no your wife, no your driver, no YOU, Lou Dobbs were shot at THREE WEEKS ago. (As if anyone could believe you could keep a grandiose story like this quiet for 3 weeks!) How can you blame them Silly Dobbs? How? Did you forget you live in elitist, rural New Jersey? It is deer hunting season and you do live near the woods. No one would shoot you. The police surely would have caught them if they did. You surely would not have kept this story hidden for three weeks.

You've lied before Dobbs, with your leprosy stories, scares, scams. We don't believe you now!

But don't worry Dobbs. You have instilled your fear and your lies in your little band of ANTIs (sheeple).
. Alipac is making it their leading cause.
. The Post Chronicle is reporting this piece of crap, reporting the story as if it happened yesterday, and blaming PRO Information Reform groups for the murder attempt:

Shots fired at home of CNN Reporter Lou Dobbs
We have just learned that someone has fired a gun at the home of Lou Dobbs, with his wife just a few feet away from the incident. The gunfire followed a series of threatening phone calls.
Lou Dobbs is being targeted by the pro-illegal alien groups and pundits who feel that Dobbs is stopping Amnesty from passing.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti Defamation League, the National Council of La Raza, Media Matters, and Geraldo Rivera of Fox News are using false information to foment hatred towards Lou Dobbs or any American who speaks out against Amnesty or illegal immigration. The lies and hate coming from these radical pro-illegal alien groups is now manifesting in the form of gunfire fired into the occupied home of an innocent multi-racial family.

At least media bistro got the story right:
Police Investigating Shot Fired at Lou Dobbs' Home
By Chris Ariens on Oct 29, 2009 11:03 AMOn his radio show this week, Lou Dobbs told his listeners that someone fired a shot at his remote New Jersey home earlier this month, while his wife was standing outside. "My house has been shot and hit... This shot was fired, with my wife not 15 feet away," said Dobbs. "It's part of life. The anger, the hate, the vitriol." Somehow the story turned to "little fools like Geraldo Rivera." There is no comment from CNN on the security scare.

WTF Headline: "Geraldo Shills for McCain"

As unbelievable as it may seem, Geraldo Rivera is shilling for John McCain. Geraldo spoke with Brian and the Judge where Geraldo admits he is a "John McCain Republican."

During this interview, Geraldo takes on the Right Wing shock jocks like Limbaugh, Dobbs, Malkin, and Coulter.
Geraldo saying the Moronic Mavens of Maliciousness aren't doing themselves any good with their irrational hatred of John McCain. From what he says, they are simply becoming a laughing stock.

Geraldo goes on to say he believes Hillary will be the Dem candidate because he thinks the Latino Community will vote for Clinton by a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 majority. Geraldo says John McCain is the only Republican that can beat Hillary and the Dems. He says McCain should select Condoleeza Rice as his VP. He says that she will gain him both African American and Female voters.

Many of the Right Wing and ANTI sites are FLAMING with responses to Geraldo. Needless to say, Malkin is beside herself with anger. She has already written several posts on her blog in response and retaliation. The ANTI sites are just as angry.

My view is Geraldo is a blowhard and speaks for himself. I used to be a fan of his when he had his own show and was a Liberal. Since he has been on Fox and turned into a McCain Republican, I don´t often agree with him anymore. Geraldo made one more very controversial statement, "Any hispanic that votes for an anti illegal immigration candidate is an uncle Tom." I totally disagree with this statement. I have some nephews in the military who support ANTI candidates. I don´t agree with who they are supporting but I would not call my nephews by the term "Uncle Tom" either.

My question to my readers is:
I don´t understand why McCain is leading. I read so many blogs and most ANTIs and Republicans hate McCain. Read Rush, Malkin or Coulter. They hate McCain. Read any of the anti sites like alipac or fair or numbersusa. They hate McCain. How on earth is McCain leading? I don´t get it. The only guess I can make is:
1. There actually is a "right wing conspiracy" (RWC) and they believe McCain is the only one that can beat the Dems.
2. If this is true, I would guess someone like Jeb Bush (or as Geraldo suggests, Condoleeza) will be named as VP and McCain will be taken ill soon after the election.
Can someone explain to me how McCain is leading IF there is no Right Wing Conspiracy? And please do not provide the explanation that Huckabee is the Romney "spoiler" because the ANTIs hate him even more than McCain.
