Republicans like Jan Brewer Utilize Scare Tactics to Demonize Freed Latino Immigrants while Revealing True Reason for their Anger! Loss of Filled Private Prison Beds!!!

Jan Brewer unwittingly revealed the real reason right wing Republicans are ANGRY over the release of low-risk detainees. They are angry because of the loss of FILLED Private Prison beds! Brewer said, The news is especially concerning when coupled with DHS' acknowledgment today that it may not be able to maintain operation of 34,000 immigration jail beds, as mandated by Congress.”

Her statement reveals the True Reason for all of this Republican angst. Their friends in the Private Prison business are losing their government funding with every unfilled bed. These Big Business Owners pay their Republican Political Puppets plenty of campaign dollars to keep their Prisons full! Over the last few years, Arizona's Department of Corrections awarded more contracts for expansions of private prisons ordered by state lawmakers and signed by Gov. Jan Brewer.
Brewer considers these Latino Border Crossers as “jail bed occupants.” The Private Prison Owners pay big $$ to the Political Action Committees of many Republican politicians, particularly in Southern Border States like Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Atlanta and North Carolina – the states with Republican Governors and loaded with Private Prisons and their Lobbyists.
Now that sequester is underway and many government departments are forced to slash their costs, it is not surprising that the Department of Homeland Security has released two thousand detainees with plans to release 5,000 more by March 31, bringing the number down to 25,748 (as reported by AP). The detainees who are released are still expected to appear in Immigration Court when scheduled and potentially may be deported.

The Department of Homeland Security currently has 30,733 Immigrants in Detention Centers. The cost to house these detainees is $164 a day for each detainee. This equals a savings of approximately $60,000 for each detainee and approximately $2 Billion a year for the detainee population.

Though it is the Republican Party that is demanding the sequester budget cuts, they are talking out of both sides of their mouths! They are vocally opposing these releases even though these actions will save the country billions. Republicans Bob Goodlatte, chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Mike McCaul of the Homeland Security Committee, as well as Sen. Dan Coats of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Sen. Chuck Grassley of the Senate Judiciary committee are all attacking Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security for these releases. They are claiming these uncharged, primarily Latino Immigrants, who have no criminal records, will terrorize the streets upon their release. This is a Lie and a Scare Tactic, painting these Latino Immigrants as the Boogey Man. Those that are being released are NOT felonious criminals. They are students, passengers in cars, workers, many of them caught up in “Suppression Sweeps” in Latino neighborhoods – as often occurs in sleepy Arizona towns.
These Republican zealots are spouting the Tea Party rhetoric. They are spewing the views of the ANTI-Latino Hate Groups including F.A.I.R, NumbersUSA and Alipac who have pushed these scare attacks against Latinos for years. Republican Politicians are Lying to the American Public about SCARY LATINOS ROAMING THE STREETS AND TERRORIZING TOWNS.

What is mind boggling is that Republicans claim they are the party that wants to cut costs, yet they are willing to waste $2 Billion Dollars a year to detain Latino Students and Workers. Their antics make you shake your head and wonder why. These Republicans are alienating Latino Voters now and in the future.

Jan "La Bruja" Brewer's Puppet Masters: Private Prison Lobbyists from CCA

As I've always blogged, you have to FOLLOW THE MONEY in order to find the root cause for the actions of corrupt politicians.
This CBS5 Investigative report details how Private Prison Lobbyists are filling the pockets of political candidates --specifically of Jan "La Bruja" Brewer. This reports also sheds light on the sb1070 - Correction Facilities of America (CCA) Private Prisons connection:
. 23,000 Immigrants turned over to ICE, numerous detained at CCA facilities.
After this CBS5 investigative report, CCA cancelled all of the Governor's campaign advertising on CBS5-Phoenix.

CBS5-Phoenix reports:
Brewer Linked To Private Prisons Housing Illegal Immigrants
New Questions Raised About Lobbyist Advice
-Morgan Loew, CBS 5 Investigative Reporter
-- Gov. Jan Brewer’s campaign chairman and policy adviser is also a lobbyist for the largest private prison company in the country. Chuck Coughlin is one of two people in the Brewer administration with ties to Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). The other administration member is communications director Paul Senseman, a former CCA lobbyist. His wife still lobbies for the company. According to campaign finance records, CCA executives and employees contributed more than $1,000 to the governor’s re-election campaign. The company’s political action committee and its lobbyists contributed another $60,000 to Brewer’s top legislative priority, Proposition 100, a sales tax to help avoid budget cuts to education.

Caroline Isaacs from the American Friends Service Committee, which advocates for social justice issues, said the money is evidence of influence the company has on the governor. Isaacs said private prison companies have been buying influence in Arizona politics for years. The number of private prisons and jails operating across the state shows the result of that influence, he said. Currently, there are at least 12 for-profit prison, jail and detention facilities in Arizona. Isaacs said the state has something else that attracts these companies. “The other Holy Grail, if you will, of private prison construction is immigrant detention,” Isaac said.

Corrections Corporation of America holds the contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to lock up illegal immigrants picked up in Arizona. Tough immigration laws like Arizona's SB 1070 could send thousands of new bodies its way, and millions of dollars. But CCA’s lobbyist and Brewer’s adviser, Chuck Coughlin, told CBS 5 News and other media outlets that there is no connection between his client and illegal immigrants arrested by local law enforcement. Coughlin appeared on KAET TV’s “Horizon” two weeks ago. “When somebody gets arrested, they go to jail. There are no private jails. Those are public jails. ICE has said they are not taking prisoners arrested under that, so there would be no transport into the state prison system when this happens,” he told the host of “Horizon.”

But ICE’s spokesman in Phoenix told CBS 5 News the agency gets most of its detainees from local law enforcement. Records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act Request show Arizona agencies turned over 23,000 illegal immigrants to ICE over the past three years. Hundreds of them ended in up CCA facilities.
Anyone who is a serious criminal or is a flight risk is more than likely going to end up in detention here in Arizona,” said Vinnie Picard from ICE.

CBS 5 News invited Coughlin to explain what he told the governor about the effects of SB 1070 on CCA, but after weeks of negotiating through e-mail, Coughlin backed out of an on-camera interview. He sent CBS 5 News e-mail from CCA, which stated: “CCA has neither directly, nor indirectly attempted to influence immigration policy, including SB 1070, and absolutely did not engage anyone in the Governor’s Office on signature of that bill.”

People like Carline Isaacs, who study the private prison industry, said they don’t buy it. “My reaction to that statement is then why did they give them all that money?” she said. Chuck Coughlin’s company canceled all of the governor’s campaign advertising on CBS 5 News.

sb1070 - Root Cause: Brewer Accepted $$$ in Donations from CCC - Private Prison Detention Owners

Have you ever wondered why the Arizona authorities insist on JAILING the so called illeeegals (eg: the workers, their entire families including their children) for 6 months instead of sending them back to their home countries right away? As I previously reported, the root cause for SB1070, and jailing these folks for 6 months, is the Money these CROOKED Politicians receive from Private Prison Owners. These crony owned private prisons receive $100 A DAY for EACH person held in Detention.
PNT reports: Several months before signing SB 1070, Governor Jan Brewer accepted hundreds of dollars in "seed money" for her clean elections campaign from corporate executives and others with a possible stake in Arizona's "papers please" legislation becoming law.

In all, seven executives with the Tennessee-based private prisons giant Corrections Corporation of America contributed $980 for the governor's start-up fund with Arizona's clean elections system. A warden for one of CCA's Arizona prisons gave $100. A CCA shareholder gave $140. Lobbyists listed with the state of Arizona as having CCA as a client gave another $560, for a total of $1,780. In addition, CCA has contributed a whopping $10,000 to the campaign for Prop 100, the one cent sales tax heavily promoted by Brewer, which is up for approval by voters today. The success of Prop 100 is considered by many to be the linchpin for a Brewer victory in November. How does CCA stand to gain from SB 1070? CCA, which houses 75,000 offenders and detainees in more than 60 facilities nationwide, operates six prisons in Arizona, three of which list U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as a client: Florence, Eloy, and the Central Arizona Detention Center.

If SB 1070 is not stopped by a federal court injunction before it goes into effect late July, as a recently filed ACLU lawsuit aims to accomplish, all Arizona law enforcement will be required to check the immigration status of those they have "reasonable suspicion" of being in the country illegally. This, during any lawful stop, detention, or arrest. So the law could potentially mean a boon in warm bodies for CCA prisons, as those aliens turned over to ICE might find themselves in CCA facilities, even if for a short stay.

"The more folks that get pulled over and detained, the more money CCA makes," said Monica Sandschafer, executive director of the Phoenix immigrant rights group LUCHA, which stands for Living United for Change in Arizona. "It's a pretty disturbing connection between Brewer and this company." ..
Clean Elections holds contributors to the initial seed money fund to a $140 per person limit. Participating gubernatorial candidates must also raise thousands of $5 individual contributions. If they obey these dictates, they are rewarded with public funds: $707,447 for the primary campaign, and $1,061,171 for the general election. However, Sandschafer pointed out that each of the CCA executives and lobbyists in question gave the maximum amount allowed, save for the warden of the Eloy Detention Center Charles DeRosa, who gave $100.

"These are the people who stand to profit from this horrible racist legislation," Sandschafer asserted. CCA execs contributing to Brewer include the company's top brass: Damon Hininger, CCA President and CEO; "senior administrator" Anthony Grande; Gustavus Puryear, at one time CCA's general counsel; Todd Mullenger, executive VP and chief financial officer; and so on.
