Guest Voz-- Mitchell Bard: Why Sarah Palin's North Korea Flub Matters!!

Guest Voz-- Mitchell Bard: Why Sarah Palin's North Korea Flub Matters
Sarah Palin provided prime material for news outlets and comedy programs when she said on Glenn Beck's radio show Wednesday: "But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies."
If she hasn't already, I'm sure Palin will say that the "elitist," "lamestream" media is doing her wrong, and that she is once again a victim of "gotcha journalism." And Palin's small but passionate group of supporters will undoubtedly argue that Palin made an honest slip of the tongue, something that could happen to any of us. Her supporters are right. Saying "North" instead of "South" is something that any of us could easily do.

But here's the thing: Any of us did not stand up two years ago and claim we were qualified to fill a job that is a heartbeat away from the American presidency. We haven't written books, made speeches, endorsed candidates and spoke to the (mostly right-wing) media as if we were policy experts. And we haven't been scouting office space in Iowa for a 2012 presidential run. In short, more should be expected of Sarah Palin than any of us, based on how she has portrayed herself, and how she is treated by the media.

The real story, though, isn't that Palin said "North" instead of "South." Let's be honest: Vice President Joe Biden could have just as easily blown a line like that. No, the real story is that Palin was discussing a complex, precarious, highly dangerous issue as if she were an expert, even though she clearly isn't. Does anyone outside of Palin's relatively small group of smitten followers honestly believe that she is competent to act as an expert on Korean policy? That she knows the intricacies and risks of engaging with the North Koreans? That she understands the possible leadership struggle going on there? Do you think she has the first clue about the history of Korea over the last century? Do you think she's ever heard of Syngman Rhee, the Bodo League massacre, the Battle of Inchon, or National Security Council Report 68, or that she knows about the decades of Japanese rule in Korea? Do you think she's ever read about the role the propaganda efforts of the post-Stalin Soviet government played in the eventual armistice that ended the fighting?
Doubtful, at best.

Now, do you doubt for a second that Joe Biden could reel off a dissertation-level analysis of these issues from the top of his head? That's the real story about the Palin flub about North Korea that the media isn't covering. It's not that she misspoke, but that anyone cared what she had to say on the issue in the first place. Sarah Palin, with her reliance on spouting talking points, simplistic approach to issues and complete lack of experience beyond a half term as governor of a state the size of Columbus, Ohio, is not competent to be discussing North Korea. And shame on any media outlet that treats her opinions as if they're worth anything.

The real damning Palin quote in the Beck interview is the one in which she worries if "the White House is gonna come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea's gonna do." Putting aside her usual butchering of the English language, she takes a complicated problem facing the United States (and the world) and reduces it to a talking-point political attack on the president.

Her comment reveals that she has no understanding that we are dealing with a North Korean leadership that may not be rational and may even be self-destructive. And one with the firepower to kill legions of South Korean civilians. To her simplistic, politics-driven approach, it's only about how the Democratic president isn't tough enough. (As an aside, she is talking about a president who has increased troops in Afghanistan, stepped up drone attacks on the enemy, and taken out more Taliban and al Qaeda leaders than George W. Bush ever did, but I digress... )

She recklessly portrays the North Korea crisis as one that is simple and only requires American strength, when, in reality, it is a difficult-to-solve issue fraught with danger. It is complicated and nuanced, and one wrong move could lead to an attack on Seoul. I wonder if Palin would be so cavalier in her approach if North Korea's missiles could reach Anchorage, Dallas or some other city in Real America?
And this person wants to be president? It's a joke.

Palin's "North"-for-"South" flub matters, but not because she misspoke. It matters because we, as a country, are acting as if she is some kind of policy expert, when, in reality, she is simple-minded and ignorant. She can say the wrong name, just like us. But just like most of us, she has no business acting like she understands the North Korea crisis in the first place.

Breaking News: Mitt Romney CHANGES HIS MIND About Immigration Reform!

Mitt Romney, known during his Presidential campaign as a flip-flopper, has CHANGED HIS MIND about Immigration Reform.
The HILL Reports:
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) said Wednesday that his party needs to take a fresh approach to government regulations in the wake of the economic crisis that has rattled the U.S. and world economies. Romney said, “We as Republicans misspeak when we say we don’t like regulation. We like modern, up-to-date dynamic regulation that is regularly reviewed, streamlined, modernized and effective.” Romney’s comments come as he mulls another run at the White House and the Republican Party grapples with how to come up with producing solutions to the housing and financial crises that were triggered by a variety of factors, including a lack of government regulation and enforcement.
“Someone shouldn’t be able to just call themselves a doctor without going to medical school,” Romney said.
“You have to have regulation, and we value regulation. What we don’t like is when you have regulation that was written in the 1920s or the early 1900s that hasn’t been updated for modern events.” Romney added that regulations on some parts of the financial sector are “overly burdensome” while others are “nonexistent.”
Romney, who was a successful businessman before running the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and winning election as the Bay State governor, said Congress was right to pass the controversial Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) last fall, but drew a distinction between preserving the nation’s financial system and bailing out companies. “Had TARP not been passed, you would have seen a cascade of collapses of banks in America,” he said. “It’s not the jobs of bankers that TARP was designed to save; it’s the jobs of all of us.”

Similarly, Romney is among the many Republicans who support a stimulus plan, but not in the form Congress passed in February. “The best stimulus with the highest multiplier effect is one which gives money back to people rather than having government spend more, and so I think they got it wrong. It’s too much weighted toward spending, too little weighted toward tax reductions,” Romney said...
Romney believes that one way to attract more minorities to the GOP is to pass immigration reform before the next election, saying the issue becomes demagogued by both parties on the campaign trail. “We have a natural affinity with Hispanic-American voters, Asian-American voters,” he said. Speaking in his Ritz-Carlton room with a pair of blue jeans on the dresser, Romney declined to criticize immigration hard-liners like former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.), who backed Romney after he dropped his own presidential bid. Romney argued that all 2008 GOP candidates — including Tancredo — strongly favor legal immigration.

With the economy remaining a top concern for the vast majority of Americans, Romney’s experience as a businessman could come in handy as Republicans search for a credible voice to rebut President Obama.
And if Romney is able to fill that niche, he could again emerge as one of the leading contenders for the GOP presidential nomination. He is arguably the top contender for the nomination, especially as the stars of both Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) have dimmed in recent weeks...
But what gives Romney a leg up on Jindal, Palin and/or most other potential presidential candidates is the network of high-profile associates who aided his campaign, and who appear ready to go back to work for their old boss. From experienced Washington hands like Ron Kaufman, Ben Ginsburg and ex-Rep. Vin Weber (R-Minn.) to lower-level staffers, former Romney backers remain loyal. With Myers and Fehrnstrom, along with Peter Flaherty, a former deputy chief of staff in the governor’s office, and several other employees on the payroll, Romney would presumably be able to restart his (Presidential) campaign on short notice.

Joe Biden - A Good Man with a Nice Family and our Next Vice President!

I always say, you can tell a man´s character by his relationships with his mother (see pix of Joe and Mom). By my standards, Joe is a 10! Joe´s mother loves him. His sister and brothers love him. He has raised two fine, outstanding sons! He has lived through difficult, tragic times. His constituents love him! He loves America! I believe the more America learns about Joe, the more America will love Joe!
Joe was born in 1942. He was born into an English-Irish heritage family (like my husband), the oldest of 4, with 2 brothers and a sister. He was raised in Delaware. Educated, became a lawyer and was elected Senator at the age of 30. His family was his campaign staff.
He met his first wife Neila in Law School in 1966. They had three children, two sons and a daughter. He suffered a family tragedy when his wife and children were in a car accident around Christmas time of 1972, right after he was elected Senator. In that accident, his wife and baby daughter died. He thought about dropping out of political life forever, but his family and constituents encouraged him to stay. When he decided to stay, he made a BIG sacrifice. He commuted (1 and a half hours each way) home every night, to the suburbs, to raise his brave young sons, Beau and Hunter, who survived the accident. In 1977, he met a schoolteacher, Jill, who became his second wife. Together they raised a family, with their two young sons and a new daughter, Ashley. In 1988, Joe suffered from neck pain. By the grace of God, the doctors found the two aneurysms that caused his headaches and removed them.
Joe raised a fine family! Joe's son Beau became a partner in a law firm, captain of the National Guard, serves in JAG, and will be deployed to Iraq in October. His son Hunter is a lawyer in Washington, on the board of Amtrak and has worked in the Commerce Dept.
Since 1991, Joe has also been a professor at a Law School.
As a Senator, Joe has remained very popular among his constituents. He has been re-elected since his first run in 1972, winning each election with at Least 60% of the popular vote!
The opponents of Joe only discuss his passions. Sometimes he speaks with his passion and is not politically correct. No dishonesty, just too honest!

Book Review: "Obama Nation" is an Abomination! Another Swift Boat Attempt, Full of Lies!

The Right Wingers are at it again! They swift boated John Kerry. Now, with the abomidable rag, "Obama Nation," they are looking to swiftboat Barack Obama. Jerome Corsi, the swift boat author, wrote the pack of lies in "Obama Nation." What type of author credits does Corsi have? He writes for the extremist, right wing, ANTI rag, "Worldnet Daily." He may as well be writing about Martians on the Moon. This so called author is a hate merchant. The timing is meant to be the August - October surprise. He is nothing but a Swift Boat Liar!! Anyone who buys the book is looking to purchase racist Lies!! Corsi, who helped put Bush and Cheney into the White House, was responsible for the swift boat campaign. The American people will NOT allow this to have an impact on our November election. I predict this book will only be purchased by the right wing, racist smear lovers who have this mindset anyway! It will change no ones minds.
As Media Matters reports:
In the preface of his recently released book, The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality, author Jerome Corsi writes: "My intent in writing this book, as was the case in coauthoring Unfit for Command (Swift Boat book against Kerry), is to fully document all arguments and contentions I make, extensively footnoting all references, so readers can determine for themselves the truth and validity of the factual claims." Indeed, Corsi's comparison of the two books seems quite apt: Just as Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry contains false and baseless attacks on Sen. John Kerry's military service, a Media Matters for America review finds that Obama Nation similarly contains numerous falsehoods about Sen. Barack Obama. Media Matters previously documented false and baseless charges Corsi made in Obama Nation about Obama's positions on the Global Poverty Act of 2007 and nuclear weapons. Media Matters also pointed out false statements Corsi made while discussing the book with Fox News host Sean Hannity, concerning Obama's position on abortion and Obama's memoir Dreams From My Father (Crown, 1995).
Media Matters goes on to cite over 80 falsehoods in this book. I recommend that all "truth minded" people NOT purchase or read this pack of lies. If you do, remember the author and his history of lies all in pursuit of selling more books! So much for McCain´s and the Republicans commitment to run a "Clean" campaign!!

Breaking News!! Soap Opera Politics Vol 1 Issue 22: John Edwards Confesses Affair But Says He Didn´t Love Her!

John Edwards finally confessed!! He told ABC News he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. (What a stupid thing to say!) He is also saying he did not father her baby (riiigghhht) although no blood tests have been taken.
As I reported last year, the Enquirer was the first "rag" to report Edwards affair early last summer. This week, they headlined with pictures of Edwards visiting Hunter in a hotel and carrying their "love child."
Ordinarily, I pay no attention to these headlines, however, this case is different!
In many cases, it is usually the cover up, but not the crime that gets you. However, this case puts a particularly bad taste in your mouth because Mrs. Edwards has been so brave throughout her fight with cancer. She is a very strong and respected woman. She was there fighting for him on the campaign trail. She was using her much needed energy to stand up for him, to defend him and to take on his adversaries. AND, this is most important, he LET her!! Secondly, he lied to us, the American Public and to his many supporters.

At least he dropped out of the Presidential Race and hopefully from Politics!

I refuse to judge Edwards, but I am mad at him!!

BREAKING NEWS!!! Soap Opera Politics Vol 1 Issue 15: Jesse Jackson Bad Mouths Obama!

According to CNN, Jesse Jackson (JJ) said something despicable about Obama while not knowing he was on Live Mike. (JJs live broadcast is over) FOX is staying MUM! Jackson feigns Amnesia of his exact words.
In a nutshell, JJ was angry because Obama said, "If Black Americans were more responsible for their actions, they would not suffer so negatively in Jobs, Health Care, Economy." JJ responded (apparently with bad words on a live FOX mike) "Barack does not know or understand the Black experience in America."
I am sure Hannity and his heinous Fox cohorts are drooling, absolutely drooling over this live mike video and are waiting for just the right moment to release it. Personally, I can understand both perspectives. From Obama´s perspective, we DO all need to take personal responsibility and be resilient, regardless of how many times we are knocked down. From JJs perspective, I can understand that the younger generation has not walked the walk and doe sn´t understand the barriers that have been overcome.
In either case, I think this is a WIN for Obama! After all, He is the candidate of Change!
Here is what AP is reporting about this story:
Jackson apologizes for his comments about Obama
CHICAGO (AP) — The Rev. Jesse Jackson apologized Wednesday for comments he made about Barack Obama's speeches in black churches during what he thought was a private conversation with a reporter.
Jackson told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday that his comments made Sunday were in response to a question from a Fox News reporter about speeches on morality the Democratic presidential candidate has given at black churches. The civil rights leader said Wednesday he felt there were other important issues to be addressed in the black community, such as unemployment, the mortgage crisis and the number of blacks in prison. He was being interviewed about health care by a Fox News reporter on Sunday when he was asked his opinion about Obama speaking in black churches. Jackson said Wednesday he was not aware that his microphone was still on. Jackson told The Associated Press he doesn't remember exactly what he said Sunday but that he was "very sorry" for his comments about Obama. He called his comments "a side light in a broader conversation about urban disparities." "My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility," Jackson said in a written statement. Jackson said he has called Obama's campaign to apologize and that he supports the candidate unequivocally. Messages seeking from Obama's campaign and a Fox News spokeswoman were not immediately returned.

Soap Opera Politics Vol 1, Issue 5: Is John McCain Still Up for the Job?

John and Cindy McCain Meet the Press to defend against accusations of McCain´s marital and lobbying indiscretions.

The New York Times Reports:
For McCain, Self-Confidence on Ethics Poses Its Own Risk
By JIM RUTENBERG, MARILYN W. THOMPSON, DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and STEPHEN LABATON
Published: February 21, 2008

WASHINGTON — Early in Senator
John McCain’s first run for the White House eight years ago, waves of anxiety swept through his small circle of advisers. A female lobbyist had been turning up with him at fund-raisers, visiting his offices and accompanying him on a client’s corporate jet. Convinced the relationship had become romantic, some of his top advisers intervened to protect the candidate from himself — instructing staff members to block the woman’s access, privately warning her away and repeatedly confronting him, several people involved in the campaign said on the condition of anonymity. When news organizations reported that Mr. McCain had written letters to government regulators on behalf of the lobbyist’s client, the former campaign associates said, some aides feared for a time that attention would fall on her involvement.
note: The NY Times says this story has been a long time in the works. The story speaks for itself. No one has challenged what their report says.

Wikipedia Reports:
McCain Spouses:
1. Carol Shepp (1965-1980) (divorced)
2. Cindy Hensley McCain (1980-Present)
In April 1979, while attending a military reception for senators in Hawaii, McCain met and fell in love with Cindy Lou Hensley, 17 years his junior, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona who was the daughter of James Willis Hensley, a wealthy Anheuser-Busch distributor, and Marguerite Smith Hensley...McCain filed for and obtained an uncontested divorce from his wife Carol in Florida on April 2, 1980. He gave her a generous settlement, including houses in Virginia and Florida and financial support for her ongoing medical treatments resulting from the 1969 automobile accident; they would remain on good terms. McCain and Hensley were married on May 17, 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona, with Senators William Cohen and Gary Hart (another well known cheater) as best man and groomsman. McCain's children were upset with him and did not attend the wedding.
3. Ms Vicki Iseman (illicit affair) (1990´s)
NY Times reports said affair with Ms. Vicki Iseman. Salon.com reports that during this same period, Cindy McCain confessed her Percocet and Vicodin drug addiction to Jane Pauley on Dateline and Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America and the fact that she stole the drugs from her own nonprofit medical relief organization.

Soap Opera Politics Vol 1, Issue 4

My observations and what the Blogs are saying:
Democrats:
All the Democrats have asked for is a candidate that can win in 2008. It appears they have their man.

OBAMA (BHO): The Only Candidate Now! Not only does he have the support of the 50% of Americans (Democrats) who voted in the last election, he also has many who did not vote or who voted Republican. He has young people, all minorities, Hollywood and, the most critical of all, the Independents. Biden, Dodd, Kucinish and Richardson have asked their followers to support Obama. My advice to Obama: Wait until the Dem Convention to name your VP. That way, the GOP will not attack him yet. My predictions: he will pick someone completely different for VP, none of the other Dem candidates. I believe he will pick a man and someone under 50. I expect the GOP will start massive attacks against him now! They will have a bit of a problem however. The media, especially the MSM, already like him.

For those of you who are not Obama believers, I read something on the internet yesterday that absolutely convinced me Obama has the election in the bag. I was reading some ANTI discussion boards and one of them had this huge debate about Obama. One of the old "Dee Haters" (my frequent readers might remember "WMM") was on his soapbox preaching many kudos in favor of BHO. The ANTIs (including our buddy STI) were just bashing WMM, yet he continued even through all the bashing (he probably got banned). WMM said about BHO: "Frankly, I don't feel anymore sorry for him because he's black any more than I do for Hillary because she's white, why would the fact that he's black be a reason to "feel sorry for him" or anyone else that is black for that matter? There are plenty of black people who feel sorry for white people who risk cancer trying to emulate the skin color black folks. He's worked hard to become who he is, no white daddy with tons of money, connections and big business corrupting the system behind him to slither him into the highest office of the US. If Boosh had been a black guy that was cheated into office, he would have been assasinated 7.5 years ago. As for his brilliance, Obama is a Harvard graduate. A former attorney and rock star at Sidley and Austin one of the top firms in the US, so you can't dismiss him or discount his achievement because he's black either. No legacy or daddy with money, no brother in Florida rigging the votes, just hard work and determination." Afterwards I thought, "Wow!! If some of the ANTIs are true believers, then BHO has this election in the bag!"
BTW, I will make a peace offering to WMM. Come visit my blog. Talk to us about your BHO views and any new insights you may have on CIR. The only rules I ask we keep here are, keep it civil and "Don´t Tase me Bro!"
Hillary: UPDATE: HILLARY is the COMEBACK KID and CAME IN 1st in NH! Monday night, she cried during an interview. (Showing her Human Side Helped!) To put the cherry on this disaster, her husband Bill is quoted as saying, "I can't make her younger, taller, male.'' When Hillary heard he said this, I´m sure she thought, "And I can´t make this idiot shut up!" The bad news for Hillary, the talking heads are saying Hillary is bringing on the old Carville, Begala team to lead them out of this mess. I do not think this will help. I only hope they don´t try too much mud slinging. That never works. We need Hillary to stand strong as the good Senator from NY.
Edwards: It is over! Polls are saying he is a distant 3rd in NH. He was on MSNBC saying he is not giving up until the Convention. I hope he gives up soon so his wife can take a rest.

Republicans:

Two and three times as many Americans are coming out to participate in the Democratic primaries vs Republican, even in the Red States. The New Hampshire polls are saying McCain will win this one, Romney will come in 2nd and Huckabee 3rd. The rest of the candidates are completely out of the running. Guiliani is still holding on to his strategy of chaos lasting until late January, when he thinks he can clobber his rivals in Florida. I think the American people are Voting for NONE of the ABOVE.

If the GOP wants a viable candidate, they are going to have to find a totally NEW Candidate. My advice is, the new candidate should look like this guy.

Stop New "Amexico" Enclaves with Comprehensive Immigration Reform

This week, my sister visited me. She decided to take a bus here from San Antonio. She took a different bus line (vs Greyhound) She emailed me the address to the Bus Station however it was the wrong address. I mapsco´d it. I drove to the wrong address and I wound up smack dab in the middle of “Amexico.” (As some ANTIs would term it.)

I had never been to this part of Dallas before. All the colorful shops had signs and music in Spanish. When I stopped and asked for directions, all the store employees spoke Spanish, not English. This section of town reminded me of my visits to Tijuana or Piedras Negras, Mexico. Not traditional Mexico, but not the USA either, focused on sell, sell, sell to the new arrivals.

I eventually found a young man who spoke Spanglish and he sent me to the right address. It was about 40 blocks away.

Getting lost got me thinking. This section of town was very different than my suburb or San Antonio. San Antonio, southside, is an older section of town. Many people call it the Mexican section, however, there is a big difference between Southside SA and the Dallas section I visited. Sure it is colorful and musical, but South San Antonio is primarily comprised of Mexican Americans. Everyone speaks English and Spanish. The store signs are in English with some Spanish. The Mexican restaurants are Tex-Mex, not old Mexico (I don´t like the taste of old Mexico food) . In South SA, the teenagers listen to Rap Music, pants hang low, cell phone and Ipod in hand, just like other American teenagers.

In the Dallas section of town, it was clear, these folks were recent arrivals, at least within the last 10 years. They were very poor, not the long timers of the USA. I am not sure they were Mexican. They may have been Central or South Americans, very new arrivals. Now don´t get me wrong. I have been to similar sections of town in other cities, just not in Dallas.

When I asked for directions, it seemed to me they were shying away from me acting as if I was the alien or perhaps La Migre.

I can easily tell the difference between Mexican Americans and new arrivals from south of the border. Mexican Americans are very much American. We talk loud. We swagger a bit. We talk with our hands. Our women are very outspoken, almost cocky, not at all shy. In other words, WE ARE JUST LIKE YOU! ASSIMILATED!! My old friend Lupita would laugh at me for saying all this. She always said I was a Gringo.

Since this happened last Tuesday, I have been thinking about this every day. Please allow me to explain the immigration issue keeping this "enclave view" in mind.

Since Reagan´s so called Amnesty, we have had an extremely high rate of illegal immigration, particularly over the last 10 years. Obviously the immigration laws have gone unenforced. We went from 3M to 12M in that time. I believe these numbers.

It is AMERICAN MERCHANTS who have set up these little enclaves to cater to the new arrivals. Don´t kid yourself and think these business owners are illegal immigrants. These mini enclaves are polka dotted throughout many cities.

These Enclaves are totally different than the Hispanic American neighborhoods many of us are accustomed to. We have towns like Miami, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego and LA. They are populated with our 40M Hispanic legal citizens of all ethnicities (e.g. Mexican American, Cuban American, Puerto Rican, etc.)

The problem most ANTIs have is, they see these enclaves and they mix them up and combine them with the traditional Hispanic neighborhoods and believe them to be the same. They are not.

When the ANTIs confuse the two and confront citizens angrily (as some do) the Hispanic citizens react and become angry as well. That is where the majority of the disagreements between ANTI and PRO is based.

If we are serious about resolving Immigration issues or illegal immigration, we do need to stop the anger and begin real discussion and develop some agreed upon form of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR).

CIR should include:
1. Secure Borders. New illegal immigration stops and there is no longer a need for these growing enclaves.
2. Employer Sanctions
3. Bring the 12M out of the shadows and assist in their assimilation (Enhanced Assimilation)
Reduced New Immigration (legal and illegal)

Let´s all stop the anger and discuss this civilly. We can make a difference.

Ron Paul´s V for Vendetta = $4Million in 24 hours

A landmark moment in online political fundraising was made on Nov. 5, 2007. Presidential Candidate Ron “Dr. No” Paul from Texas passed $4 million in online fundraising in less than 24 hours.

Monday's drive was coordinated by an independent Web site but received the endorsement of Paul. Ron Paul's devoted believers chanted, in cult-like fashion, "Remember, Remember, the fifth of November" and “Power to the People” in their call to arms and cash. They utilized the “V-For Vendetta” chant recalling the feats of famed anarchist Guy Fawkes.

Guy Fawkes was a 17th century crusader who became famous for his attempt to “blow up the government.” On the eve of the impending coup, Fawkes was caught in the basement of parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. He failed his mission to blow the place up. He was caught, gave up the names of his fellow anarchists and was hung for treason.

I saw candidate Paul on MSNBC this morning, congratulating himself for raising so much internet money so quickly. Paul, looked straight into the camera and actually said, "I never saw “V for Vendetta,” not sure what it stands for and Fawkes name was invoked just as a fund-raiser method." (Something that makes you go "hmmmm.")

Candidate Paul, as we know, is running an ANTI Comprehensive Immigration Reform, ANTI War and ANTI George Bush campaign. Sounds a lot like Fawkes to me.
