In a news release, the Sheriff's Office said Deputy Louie Puroll was terminated for 10 violations of departmental policy governing ethics violations, incompetence and truthfulness (LYING). Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said in the statement that he stood by Puroll's controversial claim of being in an April shootout because the account was supported by evidence. However, Babeu said, comments made by the deputy to a Phoenix New Times reporter "brought discredit to himself and the men and women representing our sworn law enforcement profession."
Puroll suffered a minor flesh wound in a shootout that propelled him and Babeu into the national media spotlight in the heat of public debate over border security and Arizona's tough immigration law known as Senate Bill 1070. After the incident, numerous law enforcement experts and others contended that Puroll fabricated the entire incident based on physical evidence and inconsistencies in his story. Babeu stood behind the deputy's account, and a Pinal County Sheriff's investigation concluded that the incident was authentic.
Puroll was suspended last year for comments he made to New Times.
In one interview, he told the newspaper that he had been approached by Mexican cartel members and asked to help them. In another, he told reporter Paul Rubin that a friend had offered to murder Rubin in retaliation for critical news stories. Puroll, a search-and-rescue deputy with 14 years on the force, was placed under investigation because he had never reported those matters to his superiors or to other law enforcement.
Despite Puroll's questionable comments in the media, Babeu has maintained that the deputy's shootout with smugglers was validated by evidence. Puroll could not be reached for comment.
Something very odd is happening in Pinal County. Showman Sheriff Babeu (McCain's ad campaign buddy) is saying the murder of two Latino men shot earlier this week in his county could have been committed by the mysterious drug cartels that (supposedly) grazed his deputy the day after the May 1st Immigration marches. Now Babeu is saying he has a smuggling corridor in his county that stretches from Mexico's border through Pinal County up to metro Phoenix. As proof, he has brought out the tired old picture from 3/18/10 that he tried to pass off to a Phoenix blogger as pictures of the perps who (supposedly) shot louie puroll. In reality, as I previously reported, that picture was taken by "Nighthawk" surveillance. The AZ National Guard wears carharrt jackets as the men wear in the picture; they carry assault weapons and they wear ski masks - as sheriff arpaio's men wear; as are worn in the picture.
Babeu is NOT releasing the 911 tape, he merely released a 2 second clip and a transcript. Initially, Babeu's spokesperson went on and on saying the tape was in Spanish, very short and they were cut off. Now, all of a sudden, Babeu has a very long, "clear as day" transcript in English with the 911 operator calling the caller "Omar" (have you ever heard of a Latino named Omar??) with the caller going on and on saying his shooting was in the same place deputy puroll was shot. Imagine that. You are dying in the desert and you go on and on saying you were shot where the deputy was (supposedly) shot, over and over again, just like the spin originally provided by the sheriff's office.Detectives say next to the dead men was a Bushmaster automatic rifle used by police officers for patrolling. It does not appear to be stolen.
Now we get to the bottom line of why Babeu and his crew are making this announcement: "Babeu said he doesn't believe the drug cartel problems will not be solved when SB 1070 becomes a law, or with President Obama's promise of 1,200 troops spread out among four border states. It will fall short. What is truly needed in 3,000 soldiers for Arizona alone," Babeu said.
Remember, I previously reported that an AZ newspaper reported Babeu lied about crime increasing in his county when his department's own report indicate crime has gone down.
It all becomes clear. For Babeu, it's all about Fame for Babeu, fueling the ANTI Immigration Reform frenzy (for votes) and lining the county pockets with Federal money! "Fame...remember Babeu's name!"
Now READ the transcript that sheriff babeu "says" is from one of the two latino men shot in his county. Remember, they said it was short, in spanish and they were cut off and could not speak about it initially; and remember, in the early videos he was clutching his blood soaked birth certificate: 911 Call Transcripts Listed below are the 911 call transcripts from the double homicide that occurred on June 6th, 2010. Details of the investigation were sent out in the earlier release this morning. Date of Call: 06/06/2010 First Phone Call: (1931) Dispatcher: 9-1-1, what is your location? Hello? Hello? Hello? Omar?
BREAKING NEWS: As I reported, Barbara Coe, leader of the Hate Group California Coalition for Immigration Reform advised the attendees of the Phoenix Rising rally to "...Lock & Load." Yesterday, it appears two members of the rally may have shot two innocent Latinos with an assault rifle near a migrant camp not too far from where Deputy Puroll committed, what some say, his "fake" shooting. Local newspapers are already setting it up to make it look like it was committed by a drug cartel or something.
What I worry about is the shooting took place in Sheriff Babeu's county. Sheriff Babeu is focused on his own career and pushed forward Puroll's so called claim. Can anyone trust him to complete an HONEST investigation? One other sad note. One of the murdered men was clutching his Birth Certificate. It was smothered in his own blood!
Open Request to the FBI/DOJ: Please come in and investigate so we find out who commited this crime!
On April 22, 2010, AZ Gov. Brewer made the announcement below. She has staffed 250 National Guardsmen on the border and is using a surveillance technology, termed "Nighthawk Ground Surveillance." There will be an additional 150 missions per year. (meaning there are xx amount of current missions and now 150 more.) They are fully armed including AK-47s, nightvision goggles, etc. performing special night missions in conjunction with the Border Patrol. The National Guard and BPs will work with local law enforcement for this special missions. This is fine and good. I have always advocated trained Border Patrol / personnell on the border and the use of techonology. The National Guardsmen will be a good addition if their focus is on Narco-Terrorism. The BPs are trained to be non-violent towards workers who cross the borders. The National Guardsmen, if trained properly, should do the same. Since Gov Brewer's announcement, there have been some very odd occurrences, particularly by the Pima County Sheriff's department: 1. The so called shooting of Deputy Puroll which many deem as untrue or at a minimum, suspicious. 2. Puroll's boss, Sheriff Babeu, being a shill for the McCain campaign and appearing with McCain in McCain's political ads about the border, even though Babeu is NOT a border sheriff. 3. On an AZ Tucson Citizen blog, Babeu's office provided pictures of who they initially told the blogger were pictures of those that attacked Deputy Puroll. There was a 3/18/10 date on the pictures provided and the shooting took place on 4/30/10. When the blogger asked the sheriff's office, they initially said the 3/18/10 date on the photos meant 3 of 18 pictures. Commenters told the blogger it was a date. Then the sheriff's office made another correction, this time with Babeu saying in a letter to Law Enforcement Leaders: "I attached some recent Intel photos (taken in the past couple months) which clearly show numerous armed smugglers in Vekol Valley smuggling corridor along I-8. Yes, this is the very location of the shooting just 9 days ago." However, when you carefully analyze the pictures (see above), you see the word "Nighthawk" covered over with Black Marker. Each of the men in the night photos are wearing Carhartt jackets, just like the national guardsmen in Arizona. They are all wearing black ski masks, backpacks and carrying AK-47s, just as described in Gov. Brewer's letter below.
My questions: 1. Is Babeu misleading the Tucson Citizen newspaper/blog? 2. Is Babeu misleading Law Enforcement in this letter to them? 3. Is Babeu misleading in order to scare Americans so they will support sb1070? 4. If so, what is his motive?? (we can only guess) One added note: In studying a Border Watch groups videos, out of the dozens of videos which display workers crossing the desert, only one video shows so called "drug runners." All the rest show workers, in daylight, NO guns, carrying water and clothes only. The so called "drug runners" were video'd this year, at night and they all were wearing carhartts and ak-47s. Az Gov Brewer Announcement April 22, 2010: Today, I am here to talk about action. Let me take a moment to ask the members of my Security Cabinet to join me here as I review the steps we are about to take -- – Arizona Department of Corrections Director Chuck Ryan -- Department of Public Safety Director Bobby Halliday, -- My Adjutant General, Major General Hugo Salazar, -- and Homeland Security Director Gil Orrantia. Let me take this opportunity to thank you – AND your staffs -- for all your hard work and dedication to the security and safety of Arizona. I have already asked the President to approve funding for an additional 250 National Guard personnel for the Joint Counter Narco-Terrorism Task Force to support federal, state and local law enforcement drug interdiction efforts. Using existing resources, I have directed General Salazar, to create additional "Nighthawk" ground surveillance capability within the Joint Task Force. These teams are armed, covert, and use special night vision equipment in support of U.S. Border Patrol. The additional personnel performing ―Nighthawk‖ will result in an estimated 150 additional missions per year, and that number will continue to increase as federal funding becomes available. I have also directed General Salazar to augment current helicopter aerial surveillance operations by re-allocating existing funding to increase the number of flight hours. I am estimating we can increase our flight hours this fiscal year by 300 hours that would allow for an estimated 70-80 additional missions through September. These missions will be coordinated with law enforcement to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of this increased aviation support. I will also be asking the President to provide additional helicopters, pilots, and funding to address the shortage of aviation resources relative to the challenges and length of Arizona’s border with Mexico.
You will hear more from my office on this soon. In terms of National Guard training, I am asking General Salazar to aggressively explore where appropriate opportunities for Arizona Army National Guard units to conduct annual training in southern Arizona and to conduct joint training with law enforcement agencies in border security matters. The specific training missions would be developed in coordination with the U.S. Border Patrol, the Joint Task Force and National Guard Officials.
In addition to the above, I will also: -- Continue pushing for additional federal funding for the National Guard and Law Enforcement. -- We will continue to shift, Joint Task Force resources and personnel to the southern region for ―Nighthawk or sensor-camera room support of law enforcement.
We will emphasize that replacement personnel be assigned in southern Arizona, and any future growth in the Joint Task Force will also be shifted to the Border region. As part of this effort, I have asked General Salazar to evaluate all existing Joint Task Force assets to ensure we are engaged in the best use of what we currently have. With regard to federal policy, I am generally supportive of the plan announced recently by Senators McCain and Kyl. I look forward to additional details on the deployment of this force, the missions to be performed by the proposed 3,000 additional personnel and the ways these additional military efforts would be coordinated with law enforcement entities. Unlike ―Operation Jump Start‖ from the past, it would be my clear preference to have Soldiers and Airmen in a position to support not just federal law enforcement agencies, but also state and local efforts.
Former Marine Comments on Shooting: . Being an ex Marine Viet-Nam-combat-veteran and an ex MP after my tour of duty. The report of this shooting hit me very wrong for a number of reasons. Number one: I know first hand the damage that an AK-47 round does, an AK-47 round spins as it travels and even if it grazes the target it would do major damage (it would have ripped out half his organs on the side that was hit). Number two: As an MP (Military Policeman) I learned that you do not make contact with a suspect/s without first reporting to headquarters. The cop in question was not a rookie, he should have known this. I also have to question his calling 911 vs calling his own unit for back-up. This entire incident is suspect and since there were foreign nationals involved, the FBI should investigate. For the the Sheriff's department to investigate would be like putting the fox in charge of the chicken coup.
Breaking News: More evidence that Deputy Puroll LIED! A top law enforcement source says evidence does NOT support the account by Puroll. ITWAMA is covering this story because the ANTI Immigration Reform forces are using this story and the Rancher Krentz murder (which has 0 suspects) to scare the American Public into thinking Drug Cartel Violence is running rampant in border states and therefore there is a need for racial profiling laws like sb1070. The reality is this so-called crime was STAGED to scare people and in 2010, Phoenix has the lowest rate of violent crime in years and much lower than other American cities. PNT reports: Law Enforcement Source Says Evidence Doesn't Support Account by Wounded Pinal County Sheriff's Deputy Mum has been the operative word in recent days about the April 30 desert incident involving Pinal County sheriff's Deputy Louie Puroll until NOW...
Now, a top law enforcement officer familiar with details of the ongoing Arizona Department of Public Safety probe of the incident says, "That whole [crime] scene was just not right," adding that investigators "found zero evidence supporting [Puroll's] recollections of the incident." ================== People familiar with the case are saying: . no shell castings from the AK-47s have been found. Open desert. No way to lose these shell castings. . Purcoll made a call to 911 and did not use his own police radio to contact dispatch . though helicopters were immediately on the scene, no suspects were found in a 10 by 10 mile search even though Puroll reported they had no vehicle. (see above picture which shows an open area of desert; nothing for miles to hide behind, just tumbleweed) . Being an ex Marine Viet-Nam-combat-veteran and an ex MP after my tour of duty. Here is the Video of Deputy Puroll being picked in the desert after (what some are saying is a) staged attack. Does he look hurt? Where are the 5 bales of marijuana or the gun shells? A big Thank you to The IPCRESS Blog for their in depth investigation. Ipcress is continuing with the investigation until the complete truth is revealed: The Ipcress File Reports: (Highlights) Suspicious Shooting of Arizona Deputy . Drudge runs report, "AZ deputy shot in stomach by suspected illegal" -- the Officer was NOT shot in the stomach. . The illegals were hauling bales of marijuana through the desert, on foot? Armed with AK47s? What happened to the car chase down Interstate 8, where the drug runners “bailed out” and made a run through the desert, with Officer Puroll in pursuit? . This account, however, is quite different from the initial report given by Lt. Tami Villar, where it was stated that Puroll “confronted” FIVE armed illegals, not just one. These five illegals then got away in a vehicle, with Puroll in pursuit. What happened to this lone “rear guard” illegal with the AK47? Did he just run away on foot? After a ten minute gun battle, did the armed illegal just let Puroll get back into his cruiser so as to chase down his friends in the vehicle? Was there even a car chase at all? The statement mentions the helicopter, but leaves out the incident where the illegals were shooting at it. And if one illegal was “left behind” to fight rear guard, what were the bales of marijuana doing there? Why would his friends leave those? Were they planning on coming back for them? The story is quite a mess and nothing fits together. In the end you had five guys running through the desert (who had been spotted by one of the helicopters) and yet they all managed to get away even though over 200 various law enforcement officers had encircled them. . Puroll is ambushed by one of the smugglers, but exchanges fire with TWO. The gun battle is considerably shorter than previously stated. Noticeably absent is what exactly happened AFTER the exchange of gunfire. It seems that Puroll quickly ran out of ammunition (firing 46 rounds in a minute.) What happened at this point? Did the ambushers decide to run away just when Puroll ran out of ammo? All early reports mention a VEHICLE which the smugglers were using and which Puroll eventually chased down. Why is there no mention of this? How was Puroll LOST in the desert for over an hour and what was he doing during this time? . May 5: Press conference today with Babeu. He explains that armed bands wait in the desert to kidnap and assault the illegals carrying drugs. Seems to make some sense, although it’s kind of difficult to imagine armed units of illegals just wandering around the desert looking for people to attack. Not sure how this would apply to Puroll’s situation. Babeu also mentions that they recovered four AK47s from the desert, although no further details were provided (did they just toss them on the ground and run away?) . HOW MANY MEN DID PUROLL ENCOUNTER?? First he encounters FIVE men. Then, he encounters the single “rear guard” assailant. Then he encounters five OR SIX men. Then he encounters five men, but only one of them fired on him. And HOW was Puroll “patrolling” this “off-road area?” He must have been in an off-road vehicle, right? He wasn’t WALKING through the desert. So, he must have taken cover behind this vehicle. Right? Seems there would be a Pinal County Sheriff’s vehicle somewhere with bullet holes through it. Have there been any pictures of this? Sheriff Paul Babeu said Tuesday that the smugglers continued to fire in Puroll’s direction for 20 minutes after the wounded officer took cover. A TWENTY MINUTE gun battle? Yesterday, Babeu told Channel 5 that the gun battle “lasted about one minute.” . Now the story is different. NOW he encounters the main group of FIVE illegals first, but ten minutes later, receives fire from the “rear guard” guy who “circled around him.”
As at least two people fired on him, Babeu said, Puroll unloaded a 30-round clip from M-16 A1 assault rifle and then a full magazine from a .40-caliber Glock with 16 rounds in it. Then, he phoned dispatchers to advise that he had been shot. One of the wounds is a graze mark. The other clearly was caused by a bullet, Babeu said. Marks on his skin suggest Puroll was hit from at least 6 feet away.
6 FEET AWAY! If “one of the wounds is a graze mark,” what was the OTHER wound? It “clearly was caused by a bullet.” Obviously, they don’t want to say he suffered TWO “graze marks” (from SIX FEET AWAY!) . Babeu said DPS investigators, who handled the crime scene, have not yet provided information on the evidence they found. . Babeu merely recites the same drivel as before. He adds that Puroll has been “restricted” from speaking to the press because of the “investigation.” Puh-leez… What a load of crap. They can’t get their story straight, the press is starting to pick up on the fact that this was staged, and so they’re keeping Puroll far, far away from reporters. MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE: . Just 10 days before the shooting, Pinal County Sheriff, Paul Babeu gives this interview for MSNBC (see video). The banner, “Officers Killed by Illegal Immigrants” is prominently displayed throughout the interview, yet Babeu never cites ONE instance of an officer being killed by an illegal alien. In fact, NO officers were killed BY ANYONE last year in Arizona (and none, so far, this year.) . Babeu, along with Senators McCain and John Kyl are pressing for the deployment of 3,ooo National Guards along the border, as well as 3,000 more “Custom and Border Protection agents.”

By now, most people have heard about Sheriff's Deputy Louie Puroll being shot by an AK-47 type weapon around 4pm last Friday afternoon just South of Phoenix. Puroll suffered a flesh wound on his left side that tore off a small chunk of skin. He was treated and released on Friday night.
The Arizona National Guard said reports that one of its helicopters came under fire during Friday's search-and-rescue operation were not correct. A helicopter assigned to the state's Joint Counter Narco-Terrorism Task Force diverted from its mission on Friday after hearing radio calls to help Puroll and was first to locate the deputy. At that point, a clipboard or other metal object within the aircraft apparently fell to the floor, causing a clattering noise. Crew members were at first unclear about the source of the noise and put out an alert that there might be gunfire in the area. During a debriefing, Castillo said, the crew realized the falling clipboard caused the confusion. Villar said the clarification never reached Sheriff Paul Babeu, who told the media of a helicopter coming under fire during news briefings.
According to the sheriff, the incident began when Puroll was on patrol in an off-road area about 5 miles south of Interstate 8 around 4 p.m. Friday when he came upon five men, at least one of whom opened fire with an assault rifle. Puroll suffered two minor wounds as he ducked for cover and returned fire. Puroll believed he may have wounded one of the suspects. About 200 law-enforcement personnel scoured 10 square miles of the desert for more than 12 hours, using multiple helicopters and night-vision equipment. They arrested 17 people, none of whom were any of the five suspects. Today, four days after Puroll reported being ambushed and wounded by marijuana smugglers in the southern Arizona desert, investigators appear to be stymied in their search for suspects.
Today, maricopa.com said: Despite capturing 17 illegal immigrants during a two-day sweep of a 10-square-mile stretch of desert near Stanfield, 20 miles south of Maricopa, five suspects in the Friday shooting of a Pinal County deputy remain at large, according to Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Tamatha Villar.
Villar claimed three of the suspects the sheriff’s department picked up were key witnesses in the investigation. Villar claimed one of the shooters is a light-skinned Mexican male, with a Sinaloan accent (central Mexico..how could he recognize the accent so specifically while under fire????) who was wearing a green-brown, army fatigue-type long-sleeve shirt, tan-colored pants, ball-cap style hat and black hiking boots. The other suspect is a darker-skinned Mexican male last wearing a grey long-sleeve "hoodie" sweatshirt, green-colored pants and black-and-white tennis shoes. The only information available on the other three is that they were longer-haired Hispanics. (All these clothes, outside, in 100+ temperatures, in the middle of the desert, no vehicle, carrying 5 bales of MJ, assault weapons and rounds of ammo. And they got away after a 2 day search. Wow!)
The shooting occurred late Friday afternoon around 5 p.m. when Deputy Louie Puroll, 53, was patrolling the area near Interstate 8 and came across a stash of marijuana bales and five suspected smugglers. A firefight between the deputy and suspects ensued with at least 30 shots being exchanged, Villar said. At one point, the deputy discarded his pistol because it either ran out of bullets or jammed and began to fire with his tactical rifle. (Phoenix New Times article indicates no bullets found; no AK-47) During the fight, the deputy was hit in the back, the bullet ripping out a sizable piece of flesh (AZ Republic said flesh wound on left side; out of hospital same night). Puroll used his phone to call for help, setting off a frantic hour-long multi-agency search for the deputy in the remote desert, Villar said. Hundreds of both federal and state law enforcement officers, including those from Maricopa Police Department, took part in a two-day search for the suspects. Villar said Puroll was treated and released from the hospital, and he is home doing well.
Phoenix New Times is reporting about a dozen current and former local cops in the last few days (most of them initiated the contact), when mentioning Purcoll's highly publicized (and highly charged) incident near the intersection of Interstate 8 and Arizona Route 84 last Friday afternoon, every last one of them brought up the name Franklin Brown. (a previous Phoenix cop that staged a crime for his own purposes)
The Sheriff's Office is conducting an internal investigation into the shooting. They say this is standard procedure.
Readers: I make no judgement on this incident. I will wait until the internal investigation is complete. But you can see that the coincidences are mounting up, all surrounding the passage of racial profiling bill SB1070. Incidents like this are meant to instill FEAR in Arizonians in hopes they will support the racial profiling SB1070.

Hello. My name is Dee. I live in Texas. I am an American. My ethnicity is Hispanic. Many would call me Mexican or Mexican American. Some call me a female, PRO-Immigration Reform - Ann Coulter.
My parents, their parents and theirs were all born in the USA.
My husband and I have been happily married for over 20 years. My husband is a big, Irish-American. We have two grown sons. We are happy and my family is doing well. I have been employed as a mid level manager at a very large, well known corporation for over 25 years, now recently retired.
In May, 2006, after the Immigration Marches, I started seeing the cable news channels talking very negatively about illegal immigration. I found many internet sites were talking negatively about legal and illegal immigration issues as well.
Since I do research on the job, I started conducting Immigration research on the web. I joined several Immigration websites and I researched others. I´ve learned so much about Immigration issues over the last year.
What you don´t see on the internet is the Mexican American perspective.
I am here to share my views with you.
