The Trayvon Martin Case and the Far Right's Attack on VICTIMS WHO ARE MINORITIES!!

I've written a couple of posts on the Trayvon Martin case and received numerous emails from Bad Anon and others sending me examples of Black on White crime. I've also been watching Fox News, read the Alipac forum and listened to Conservative AM Radio talkshow hosts who are also up in arms about the media coverage of this case. They all question why the "Liberal media" and the Civil Rights organizations (e.g.: Rev Al,, Action News Network and the NAACP) are promoting this case when there is far more "Black on Black" crime and "Black on White" crime.

These groups totally miss the point of the issues surrounding this case. The primary issue surrounding this case is the fact that the police did NOT act on this case. They never investigated. They treated Trayvon's Death as that of a criminal; worse yet, an inferior, non-person criminal -- as some police do for all minority victims.

The police did not investigate nor charge the perpetrator, George Zimmerman.

Bad Anon sent me a few of his examples of Black on White crimes, as IF these examples were similar to what occurred in the Trayvon Martin case. However, in each of the examples sent, the Black Perpetrator was immediately investigated and charged with a crime. In fact, in ALL of the other examples by Fox or right wing talk radio, the perp was immediately investigated AND Charged!

THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TRAYVON MARTIN CASE.

Go back to the earliest days of the case. The shooting of Trayvon Martin occurred on March 26, 2012. The parents were not notified by the police of their son's death for 3 days -- 3 DAYS -- even though they called the police to report him missing.
The police had Trayvon's cell phone. His parent's numbers were on his call list. The police completed an autopsy on Trayvon immediately - without the parent's permission, just to see if he had taken drugs. They did not do the same for George Zimmerman. -- and all they found was Skittles and Iced Tea.
After more than a week of being stonewalled by police about the investigation into their son’s killing, Trayvon's parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, had to hire lawyers and hold a news conference before the Police investigated the case. During their press conference on March 8, they said, “We feel justice hasn’t been served,” Martin told reporters.
Police chief Bill Lee Jr. fought back, insisting that his department had conducted a thorough investigation and failed to find reason to charge Zimmerman.
“There is evidence that Zimmerman acted in self-defense,” Lee announced. Lee told a Sanford Herald reporter that arresting Zimmerman “would have been a violation of his civil rights.” In his public pronouncements he sounded more like Zimmerman’s attorney than a law enforcement official looking for the truth. Lee was eventually suspended.
It was only after the parents asked Minority Rights advocates and the media to become involved that action was taken on the case. Finally, the Prosecuting Attorney and the Governor became involved. Finally, the shooter has been charged.
This case is a clear example of Discrimination in America and in the American Justice system. These "errors" are perpetrated by local law enforcement, including Prosecutors. As is evident in this case, they view minorities -- even the victims -- as being at fault in most crimes. As in the Martin Case, the police failed to investigate the crime because the VICTIM WAS A MINORITY. As has happened so many times in Maricopa county, they refused to investigate the crime because the VICTIM WAS A MINORITY. Just look at all of the Rape Cases Arpaio REFUSED to Investigate -- ALL BECAUSE THE VICTIMS WERE MINORITIES!!!

This is the reason why the Martin case is so Important!! Trayvon Martin -- THE VICTIM -- his case was NOT acted upon because HE WAS A MINORITY!!
If a minority is the perpetrator (as in ALL the examples presented by the far right) the Police and the Prosecutor IMMEDIATELY begin the investigation.

This week, Special prosecutor Angela Corey’s decision to charge Zimmerman with second-degree murder in the killing of the unarmed Trayvon Martin is a POSITIVE first step in providing EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL -- REGARDLESS OF RACE OR ETHNICITY.
