Glory Hound Sheriff Arpaio Costing Taxpayers Millions!

The Phoenix News Reports:

Inhumanity Has a Price
Corpses, a flesh-eating virus, the most-sued sheriff in America. Lawsuits against Joe Arpaio have cost us $41 million, so far
By John Dickerson Published: December 20, 2007
(summary)
Maricopa County's sheriff Arpaio has a vivid history of ignoring the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He's trampled the rights of prisoners, political enemies, and media critics. In partnership with the county attorney, the pair have expanded their enemies list to include the judiciary and immigrants. Private citizens and their Internet-viewing records were merely the latest victims in a long line.

The Sheriff´s antics include:
1. Establishing an Sheriff´s Enemies List
2. Identifying the identity of anyone who looked at New Times online in the past four years.
3. Vermin, filth, medical care suggestive of POW camps, chronic mismanagement, the wanton destruction of records, and a steady parade of corpses in Maricopa County jails have cost taxpayers an astonishing — and until now, undisclosed — 41.4 million dollars.
Read the entire Phoenix News article for the entire expose!

this has minutemen written all over it

I would think, if the people of Maricopa County had a problem with the Sheriff, that they would not re-elect him. This is up to the people of the county and there election process. It also tells me, not to become a criminal in Maricopa County, for my own sake.

And ANON above, it has nothing to do with the Minutemen AT ALL, you should be called MORON instead of ANON.

Leave it to dee to try and demonize any anti she can by propaganda opinion pieces. She just can't stand anyone who is for the rule of law and deporting her illegal amigos.

Dee said...

This is an article by their newspaper Liquid.

I expect there are many, many people upset by the antics of the Sheriff.

I posted this expose because it is on a number of blogs, especially the AZ blogs.

Dee said...

Liquid, I do agree. You do not want to be arrested in his county.
Yikes!!

It doesn't matter of the newspaper or the local, the PEOPLE keep re-electing him because of his achievements. It can be an expose, a hit piece, just someones opinion, it doesn't change the fact that he was and has been re-elected by the people of the county of which he protects. If the people get tired of him, I'm sure they will re-elect somebody else, but until then, they have who they want in charge of their criminals.

I say:
I expect there are MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAPPY with the outcome of the Sheriff. It's that "re-elected to his position thing" that seems to be on my side at this time.

I live in Tulsa.

The enforcement of the law is pretty aggressive here as well.

There have been some pretty spectacular results from the law so far

The popularity of the law in Tulsa has only grown as its effects have started to be felt

I would be happy to serve as a fact gatherer on the ground here in Tulsa. Perhaps you can add to your blog the ability for people like me to post photos - then i can drive around Tulsa taking photos of the positive impacts of the law.

I note that the article doesn't give any details regarding the $41 million. Is this just the amount requested by the law suits or are these actual awards from jury trials? Let's see the list of the actual awards and a one line summary of the court's findings. What newspaper is this anyway? It's not the Arizona Republic. What is its paid circulation? Or is it just a rag?

Most American, I believe, are in favor of better law enforcement and better court decisions. Few believe in coddling criminals. If Sheriff Joe has stepped over the line, the voters will hold him accountable. If he is doing the kind of job the voters want him to do, he will be rewarded with re-election. In the meantime, criminals beware! A strong sheriff is needed if the Maricopans don't want their county to become like Mexico in terms of lawlessness and corruption.

dee can i simply e mail you photos - then you can post them to your site

i don't want to do the work to create my own blog

i figure the most relevant photos are of job sites where the undocumented folks that left tulsa were replaced with us citizens of all races.

any other suggestions from the group here of relevant photos to show what is happening in tulsa

dee isn't going to like those photos, anon. lol.

look,

respected professors and academics have interviewed hundreds and hundreds of the employers of unskilled people

Most of these employers have a choice between hiring unskilled African American Citizens OR hiring immigrants from Mexico.

The overwhelming majority of the employers have said that they prefer to hire immigrants from Mexico

Even when african americans are eager to work for the same wage, employers will choose the mexican immigrants.

It is not racist to accurately report on the work of respected academics

More than half the african american males who can't make it through high school are unemployed

take a look at the academic work. Take a look at the statistics. They are all there.

The obvious conclusion is, if 20 million illegals left the usa, employers would hire african americans to fill some of the jobs left empty in construction

Anonymous said...

Dee, would you like to see photos of restaurants in tulsa that refused to hire african americans before that just started to hire them due to the tulsa law booting out undocumented workers?

Would you like to see photos of house construction sites where the % of african american workers went from 5% to 50% ?

Dee, be direct, what photos do you need in order to prove to you that the Oklahoma law was a god send to to unskilled african americans ?

I will send you all the photos you need as long as you post them

Anonymous said...

Dee,

We have on the list photos of restaurants, construction sites, etc.

What other sorts of photos would you like to see from Tulsa

We all on this board want to have an honest discussion so be direct about what photos can advance that discussion.

Let's follow the truth

Dee said...

Anon,
Yes. Please email me the photos and articles and research (studies) you are referencing. I would like to study them.

I will post a blog on them once I receive and confirm the stats.

Thank you Anon.

Dee said...

As indicated, my email address is: dee_perezscott@yahoo.com

Don't you see anon-dee will say she can't prove illegals held those same jobs? She'll want pictures of the illegals before doing the jobs. And even if you can provide those pictures of the illegals, she would want absolute proof that they were illegal. She is not interested in unskilled Americans citizens getting jobs due to the illegals leaving.

From one anon to another

Dee, here is the book -available for about $6 on half dot com

Basically, the two professors responsible for this book actually rolled up their sleeves and went in to the locations where unskilled people work. They interviewed the employers.

The employers basically said that their workplaces are already filled with spanish speaking unskilled employees. Their current spanish speaking uwork force hates working with african american male citizens, and if the employer hires an african american male citizen, the spanish speaking workers somehow make it so that the male african americans are forced out. The employers have therefore thrown in the towel and will hire only spanish speaking workers.

Let me repeat that - the employers say that when african american male citizens apply for jobs their resumes are basically thrown in the garbage.

Now of course the employers may be rationalizing why they refuse to consider hiring male african american citizens. They could have other reasons for not considering job applicants who are african american.

But the bottom line that comes through, page after page, is that the message has gone out to african american males that they are not wanted as employees. This message is reinforced whenever an african american male sticks his head up and seeks a job.

This book is a heart-breaking read for anyone who cares about young african american unskilled males getting a foot on the employment ladder.

Let's be direct. Even if the 20 million undocumented workers voluntarily go home, there will still be employers who prefer things the way they are, and try to hire the spanish speaking folks who are here in the US legally. Let me repeat that - the book shows that if an employer is given the choice between a spanish speaking person, a recent immigrant LEGALLY in the US, the employer will choose the spanish speaking person over the african american.

However, with the exodus of the 20 million, there will be enough of a shortage of labor that those employers that today refuse to consider african american males for jobs will be forced to consider them and hire them.

Read the book - it is a powerhouse

"[An] authoritative study of Los Angeles's low-wage labor market. . . . Drawing upon a mountain of data, the book documents the process by which immigrants have come to dominate some employment niches in L.A. Along the way, Waldinger and Lichter explode any illusion that today's employers seek to empower workers in the service sector, where the labor market may be fluid but hierarchies are scarcely flat."--Joseph A. McCartin, Washington Post Book World

"In this masterpiece of field research into the social processes that structure America's economy, Waldinger and Lichter unveil the most original and powerful theory ever advanced to explain how 'unskilled' immigrants have come to work at remarkably high rates while inner city blacks continue to languish. Like Wilson's When Work Disappears and Massey and Denton's American Apartheid, How the Other Half Works will set the stage for a new era of poverty research. In its focus on Los Angeles as the quintessential suburban metropolis and as an exemplar of multi-ethnic America, it may also one day be seen as the founding text in a new LA School of Urban Sociology."--Mitchell Duneier, author of Sidewalk and Slim's Table
"How the Other Half Works is unreservedly one of the most important works on immigration and its relation to the social nature of work in contemporary America. Addressing several of the most vexing 'race' and labor issues of our time, it offers original and persuasive answers that challenge the prevailing wisdom of economists. Grounded in the best tradition of empirical sociology, the work is richly documented, vigorously argued, and clearly presented. With this landmark study, Roger Waldinger (working in tandem with co-author Michael Lichter) confirms his stature as the nation's leading sociologist of immigration."--Orlando Patterson, author of The Ordeal of Integration: Progress and Resentment in America's "Racial" Crisis

Put this book in the context of this whole discussion

(1) There are undocumented workers working on residential home construction

(2) There are African American males who are willing to work on residential home construction - this is not "a job that americans won't do"

(3) Today, the general contractors choose to hire undocumented folks instead of African Americans

(4) We are debating on this blog whether the exit of 20 million undocumented would benefit African American unskilled men

(5) I think both pros and antis agree that the exit of the 20 million would create a severe labor shortage

(6) It seems obvious that a severe labor shortage would lead the contractors to do two things - raise wages and offer the available jobs to african american males.

(7) Somehow, some people on this board have claimed that if the 20 million left, that job opportunities for African American men would NOT open up. I just don't understand what they are thinking, what they are saying. I am befuddled. I mean, a desperate employer who has just seen many of his workers exit the US, how could you imagine that this employer won't advertise in the neighborhood where there are thousands of underemployed african americans and at least try to replace his missing work force?

What is the logic of arguing that african americans won't be offered some of the jobs that the 20 million leave behind

Anon,
You said you live in Tulsa, the immigration laws are strictly enforced and you have pictures, proof that the law is working. You said you wanted to post these facts that you witnessed yourself. I ask you to email me this info for a blog and you send me to a book written in 2003 about a study conducted in the 1990s about Immigration in Los Angeles? Anon, you are leading us astray here. Where are the Tulsa pictures and the facts you promised to provide? Please send me the email if you have the pictures and the facts.

Please send me an email: dee_perezscott@yahoo.com
I will wait for your email.

Yes, i do live in Tulsa. I just sent you an e mail. please confirm that you got that e mail.

I guess i noticed that as of now there are many more african american faces at the restaurants i eat at, where six months ago these restaurants had no african americans -

I want to have a fair and open discussion, and i look to you Dee to lay out what you think would be an open and honest way to show the impact of the new laws in Oklahoma on the unskilled african american males in Oklahoma.

I mean i can send photos of restaurants selected by me but i am not sure how much weight you will give them.

In the interest of getting the truth out, i invite you and your readers to treat me like a journalist and just send me out on assignments to get you photos

I only ask that if i do the work and get you the photos and e mail them to you that you post them on your blog

By the way, I would hope that a few people, pro and anti, in Arizona volunteer to gather photographic evidence.

Let the truth enlighten all of us

Anonymous said...

Again, what i mean is the staff of the restaurants i eat at has changed. Many more young african american males on the staff now.

on the surface it seems this is a good thing - no one wants to work in a restaurant forever but restaurant jobs are good stepping stones in to the work force for these young men.

Again, I will gather facts w my camera as i am directed to by people on this blog (of course, be reasonable, don't send me to do crazy things )

Anon, please see email response.
here is what I said:

Hey xxx,
I did receive your email. You did confuse me when you posted a reference to a 2003 book about immigration studies in LA in the 90´s.

You said the immigration laws were recently strictly enforced in Tulsa and now you are are seeing a change in the number of citizens hired. I thought you were going to write an article providing some supporting urls to your story and perhaps a picture or 2. I will look for some Tulsa urls. Send me the names of the restaurants you see the differences in and I will check out newspaper articles for reference.

Dee

thanks for your e mail

I am not sure what you are asking -
I mean, nothing has been published in Oklahoma that i know of that addressess this.

No reporters have gone in to the african american community and asked them about new employment opportunities that have come their way (or not come their way) as a result of the new immigration law.

So i am happy to take photos of any location in Tulsa that you want photos of, since in the absence of newspaper articles, I guess we all have to do our own reporting.

Do you have any articles that deal with the impact on African Americans in arizona of the new law? If not, can you get someone on the ground to gather info on that for you

An Interview

Dee said...

Anon,
Here are some articles that talk about the impact of HR4088 in OK.

I´ve been trying to locate articles that tell me there have been increases in the number of American Citizens obtaining jobs and that their salaries have increased due to the change in law. I am not having any luck so far. Just articles talking about the loss of business and jobs. Please let me know if you find any urls in OK that provide your perspective.

Capitol Hill feels effect of HB 1804

Arguments heat up over new immigration law

State immigration bill requires some corrections

Hispanics feeling heat of enforcement

how can i, as a lone individual living in oklahoma, on the ground, contribute to the fact gathering here?

i live my life, drive by construction sites and eat at restaurants and see things.

I can document what i see with my camera.

i don't think any reporter wants to write an article supportive of the new law since the businessmen that own the media are in favor of lower wages / in favor of mass immigration

so i think the job falls to people on the ground to gather the facts, i don't think we can count on the media
