Herr Congressman Terrill Pushing Official English in Oklahoma Next!

Herr Terrill is at it again. He is the Oklahoma Congressman, part time Minuteman, who pushed through (with NO popular vote) the restrictionist HB1804 Immigration Bill which promotes racial profiling, has caused many Latinos (legal and illegal) to leave the state and has had a significant negative impact on Business and State Revenue. Now he is pushing an Official English Bill.
English is and continues to be the National Language of our Great USA. All loyal Americans support English, learn know and understand English as our National Language. As new people immigrate to our nation we know, in general, it takes one generation to assimilate and learn the language fluently. We also realize that many older citizens who immigrated here may have difficulty in adapting as quickly to English to the level needed in complex situations. Therefore, many businesses and government offices support the use of Spanish and other languages
Many people ask me, "Why do so many ANTIs constantly insist on the passage of an Official English bill when the government has already passed English as our National Language bill?"
There are two reasons the ANTIs insist on passage of the Official English bill:
1. The bills say: "all government business must be conducted in English and prevent the government from delivering government services in any language but English." Many ANTI groups are pushing this bill NOW. Why? Because many ANTI groups DO NOT want any Voter materials printed in Spanish. They do not want translators available to assist Spanish Speaking voters. These bills are specifically aimed against Latino voters. Notice the language in the Oklahoma bill being presented by Herr Terrill. His aim is purely to pass an ANTI Latino bill. (see article below)
2. Many ANTIs believe once a National bill is passed, all states will be forced to enforce the Offical English bill´s within their states to the letter of the National Law. Approximately 30 states currently have an "Official English" bill within their states. Some states do not enforce and some states do not require the printing of materials in English only, particularly California does not. The ANTIs want this changed, with forced National Enforcement. Additionally, once these bills are strictly enforced, they look for more stringent measures going forward, as in the Judge´s ruling in my other post.
Remember America, as with the Patriot Act, once we open the door to the passage of these types of bills, the Flood-Gates will be open for even harsher measures and enforcements! This is only the beginning of the loss of our Civil Liberties and we should be aware of the impacts.
As reported in the Norman, OK Transcript:
TIM TALLEY Associated Press - March 18, 2008 04:05 pm
The author of Oklahoma's sweeping anti-illegal-immigration law said Tuesday he plans new legislation that would ask voters to make English the official language of the state. Rep. Randy Terrill, R-Moore, said the measure will seek a constitutional amendment requiring that all official state government business be conducted in English similar to proposals adopted by 30 other states that have made English the official language. The legislation addresses government speech and recognizes the state's right to control the way it communicates with citizens and how citizens communicate with it, Terrill said. If approved by voters, the measure would prevent the state from having to deliver taxpayer services in a language other than English and avoid the cost of providing services in multiple languages by using translators and publishing state documents in various languages. "Translation costs money," Terrill said. "We know the costs are significant." The measure also adopts a federal government policy that encourages immigrants to assimilate into American society by speaking English. The bill carves out exceptions for American Indian languages and would not interfere with tribal language programs. English-only legislation died last year after it was opposed by tribal officials.

Cost is a huge issue. Who is paying the bill for all the translation services? Of course, the taxpayers.

In the UK the same concerns exist and it's not for Mexicans.

And in Scotland

And I could "google" on as there are the same problems all across Europe.

Dee, this is a real cost concern. We cannot AFFORD all these services in this country. The immigrants must take their responsibility to assimilate seriously.

I just want to say one thing. I hired a lawn care company to do some landscape work for me in the past couple of days. I just met the owner (white) when I got the bid and when the work started out came this Hispanic guy along with the owner to do the work. I don't know if he was illegal or not, but he spoke English quite well except for a few words and he was a very, very nice young man. He and I had some nice conversations and he did a very good job. Being able to communicate makes all the difference in the world.

I agree that English is and should be our National Language.

I do not believe we should pass a bill titled "Official English" for the purpose of STOPPING to print voting materials in Spanish or to assist those who require assistance when voting. That is the purpose of the Bill. We know this. It is wrong.

"Herr" Terrill? I thought his name was Randy Terril. Sounds like a disgusting insult from our ethnocentric racist dee.

Dee, how can you say that about voting. It is completely erroneous. You must be a US citizen to vote and to become a US citizen, you must know English enough to take the citizenship test. I'm sorry, you do not make sense.

dianne, ethnocentrics like dee can't stand the thought of English being our official langauge, bottom line. They want Spanish to be equal to English in this country and their most utopian dream would be to make Spanish our official language.

Also she and those who think like her want the continued flow of illegal aliens from Mexico to continue and she wants to make them as comfortable as possible. They fool no one with their screams of racism.

Dianne,
You are incorrect regarding Language and Citizenship.
Here is the .gov website
Language and Citizenship

Language
Applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ORDINARY usage in the English language. Applicants EXEMPT from this requirement are those who on the date of filing:

1. have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for periods totaling 15 years or more and are over 55 years of age;
2. have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for periods totaling 20 years or more and are over 50 years of age; or
3. have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment, where the impairment affects the applicant’s ability to learn English.

I suppose you all have seen or will soon see the Absolut Vodka Reconquista ad. To say the least, I am pissed and have left my message with the company. Go to Michelle Malkin's site for further info.

So there are hundreds of thousands of LEGALLY Exempt CITIZENS.

The entire issue is the ANTIs pushing these bills want to EXCLUDE Spanish speakers from Voting.

Dee said...

Pat, As usual, your arguments are ludicrous. Please re read the article and read the .gov website. (please try to catch up)

Pat, Every time I read your posts, I get this adorable picture of you! So cute! Squaaaacckk!!

Dianne, I went over to Malkins website and didnt see your comment. I thought she closed down her comments to only her long time like minded visitors.

I generally dont believe anything Malkin says. She hates Hillary and has such ugly pix of her posted on her website. Very hateful!!

Also, Malkin has no compassion for Asian or any other minorities.

I am going to investigate that ad she has posted and see if there is any truth to it.

Dee said...

Well the Ad is NOT on the Absolut website and it is NOT on the magazines website (from MX) that they said it was on.The only other reference to it was on a few ANTI blogs which reference each other and Malkin only.
Malkin is famous for this kind of inciting treachery. She never takes the blame or apologizes when proven wrong either because she always lists the source BLOG in her references.

Just more JUNK from MM.
No one pays attention to her anymore!

I shoulda been a detective. Guess what, an original ad is for sale on Ebay. It was used in 2007. I wrote to the seller and asked him where it came from. His response was that it was on the back cover of a Mexican movies magazine. The seller is from Mexico. I can send you his e-mail if you tell me where to send it.

Now, as far as your comments concerning English requirements for US citizenship, there are always exceptions for laws and I would think somebody who has been in this country for 15 or 20 years should at least be able to know enough English to recognize names and put an x in a box even if he/she can't pass a citizenship test.

More of you lies, dee. It is about saving billions in tax dollars. Why would you mention just Hispanics who can't speak English? There are Asians and other ethnic groups who don't speak English in this country either. Are Hispanics special? I don't think so.

I already told you the solution to the problem. They can get someone to interpret government documents for them and that includes voting ballots. We can no longer afford to accomodate every ethnic group in this country in their native langugage.
