Dolores, along with César Chávez, co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers (UFW). Dolores has received numerous awards for her valiant community service and advocacy for workers, immigrants, and womens' rights, including the Eugene V. Debs Foundation Outstanding American Award, the United States Presidential Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights and  yesterday, she was received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Dolores is an exemplary role model for women and for our Latino community.

Today Rush Limbaugh responded to RNC Chairman Michael Steele's comments on Afghanistan by talking about Steele's race, and the race of President Obama. Even Oprah got brought into the mix when Limbaugh tried to explain how African-Americans benefit from the color of their skin.

According to Limbaugh, President Obama never would have become President, and Oprah never would have become wealthy if they were not African-Americans. Limbaugh attributes their success to "white guilt." For those not familiar with the nuances of racist rhetoric, "white guilt" is the idea that whites feel the need to make up for previous injustices to minorities by rewarding minorities today.

However, a closer look at the biographies of Oprah, Limbaugh, and President Obama seem to not mesh well with Limbaugh's "white guilt" theory.

Winfrey hardly grew up in a privileged manner. She was born in rural Mississippi to a teenage single mother and grew up in poverty in Milwaukee's inner-city. She landed a meager job in radio at the age of 19. Eventually she would get a local day-time television show in Chicago. Oprah worked 13 years in the industry before earning a nationally televised talk show.

Limbaugh, like Winfrey, had no formal education in broadcasting before getting his first radio job at the age of 16. He was born to a family with significant political connections with the Republican party. It took Winfrey over 13 years before she gained a national syndication. Limbaugh was in radio broadcasting on and off (from being fired or quitting) for approximately six years in the talk show host business before he would obtain a national broadcast. This means Winfrey had to work twice as long as Limbaugh before being "handed" her wealth by guilty white people under Limbaugh's reasoning.

President Obama was also hardly born into a privileged home. As has now been well-documented, the President's parents divorced when he was young and he saw very little of his father. He was raised by his mother and grandparents in what could optimistically be called a middle-class lifestyle. He graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and political science. He then worked as a community organizer on the streets of Chicago performing, among other things, duties related to job training and tenants' rights. He was then admitted to Harvard University Law School (not an easy task for anyone white, black, orange, or purple) where he was editor and president of Harvard Law Review. Later he would serve as a civil rights attorney and assistant professor, before becoming State Senator for eight years, and a U.S. Senator for four years. Anyone who watched the hotly contested primary battle between Hillary Clinton and President Obama knows that he was not exactly handed the nomination by the Democratic elite.

Yet, under Limbaugh's reasoning, President Obama was able to do all these things simply because he was African-American. All of President Obama's college professors gave him good grades because of his color. The Harvard Law Review installed President Obama as editor, and later promoted him to President because he was black. The President won every election because of the color of his skin (despite the failures of people like Jesse Jackson to do the same).

This is the philosophy of Rush Limbaugh, and those who attribute black success to white guilt. Essentially, they claim whites earned their rewards, while blacks were given whatever they have.

Limbaugh says to those without Healthcare: "Get Rich or DIE Trying!"

Right Wing/Republican Pundit, the NEW Leader of the Conservative/Republican party, Rush Limbaugh is laughing and LAUGHING at the plight of the 80 million Americans without health insurance.


According to Rush Limbaugh, if you don't have the money to pay for dental care, then you should eat applesauce. Limbaugh said on his Feb. 25 radio show, "well, what's wrong with using a dead person's teeth? Aren't the Democrats big into recycling? Save the planet? And so what? So if you don't have any teeth, so what? What's applesauce for? Isn't that why they make applesauce?"


While the Democrats bring up example after example of American Citizens in trouble due to lack of coverage/the growing expense of coverage, Limbaugh laughs. Limbaugh mocked the story of transplant patient on Medicare who will have to pay, out of pocket, their own healthcare bills after three years, without the help of insurance. Limbaugh said, "This guy is -- he about had an emotional breakdown 'cause he was told he's gotta start paying his own medical bills after three years. He gets a free transplant; he gets a free after-care for three years and then he's on his own, and he's mad and thinks he's getting screwed."


Limbaugh is advocating people get rich and pay for their own healthcare, forget insurance. He said, "I'm one of the 47 million uninsured, and I'm -- look at me in one way, I'm providing leadership. I'm advocating a system get reformed so that people can afford it." Limbaugh told one caller who can't afford $6,000 to treat his broken wrist: "Well, you shouldn't have broken your wrist."


Limbaugh, equating Americans to Dogs said, "There's no federal dog health care plan out there and healthcare for pets is working fine."


It is clear. Conservatives/Republicans DO NOT CARE about the American People when it comes to Healthcare! Healthcare costs continue to rise out of sight! Healthcare coverage continues to diminish! And the Conservatives/Republicans, JUST DO NOT CARE! Or as Limbaugh says, "Let them Get Rich!"

Duplicitous Palin: Palin Considering 2012 Run, Defends Limbaugh's Use Of 'Retard' On Fox News Sunday

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin didn't cage her answer when pressed Sunday morning as to whether she would consider a run for president in 2012. "I would, I would if I believe that is the right thing to do for our country and the Palin family. Certainly I would do so," she told "Fox News Sunday," in an interview that was taped before she addressed a Tea Party convention the night before. "I think that it would be absurd to not consider what it is that I could potentially do to help our country ... . I won't close a door that perhaps could be open for me in the future."

Palin also used her platform to continue a call for the president to rid himself of one of his closest advisers, Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel. She said his comments calling liberal groups "f-ing retards" was "indecent and insensitive" and cause for his dismissal. Last August, Emanuel "showed up at a weekly strategy session featuring liberal groups and White House aides," the Journal's Peter Wallsten reported last Tuesday."Some attendees said they were planning to air ads attacking conservative Democrats who were balking at Mr. Obama's health-care overhaul. 'F—ing retarded,' Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to several participants. He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items." Emanuel has since apologized to Tim Shriver, the CEO of the Special Olympics.

But Palin went to great and sometimes awkward lengths to defend conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh when he called the exact same liberal groups the same term "F-ing retards" in the same context. Palin said, "awwww. He was just kiddin'. They are kooks, so I agree with Rush Limbaugh," she said, when read a quote of Limbaugh calling liberal groups "retards." "Rush Limbaugh was using satire ... . I didn't hear Rush Limbaugh calling a group of people whom he did not agree with 'f-ing retards,' and we did know that Rahm Emanuel, as has been reported, did say that. There is a big difference there."

President Barack Obama hs been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The Nobel committee said the award was for Obama's efforts to bring "a new climate in international politics," for which the American leader is "the world's leading spokesman."

Speaking in the White House Rose Garden, President Obama said he was "deeply humbled" by the decision of the Nobel Committee. "I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize — men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace. But I also know that this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women, and all Americans, want to build."

In the meantime, Republican advocates are slitting their wrists and lamenting the award. Treasonous Rush Limbaugh said he is on the side of the terrorist Taliban groups: "Folks, do you realize something has happened here that we all agree with the Taliban and Iran about and that is he doesn't deserve the award. Now that's hilarious, that I'm on the same side of something that the Taliban, and that we all are on the same side as the Taliban." Republicans Praying for Great White Hope to Defeat Obama in 2012

In response to a question from a conservative constituent concerned about the future of the Republican party, freshman Republican Lynn Jenkins said: “Republicans are struggling right now to find the Great White Hope. I suggest to any of you who are concerned about that, who are Republican, there are some great young Republican minds in Washington.” She then went on to name a handful of younger Republicans who are, well, WHITE. (No Minorities)

The phrase "Great White Hope" was coined by writer (”Call of the Wild”) Jack London, who, like many whites of his day, was incensed by the athletic prowess of black boxer Jack Johnson. After Johnson beat a Canadian to claim the world heavyweight boxing title in 1908, London called for a “Great White Hope” to defeat him.

Rep. Jenkins' comment has made the rounds of the talkshows. And now Jenkins has given a half-hearted apology saying she "apologizes if her words have offended anyone. That was not the intent in any way, shape or form."

Would Jenkins have made this comment if our President was White? Probably Not. This reminds me of Palin's comment about "True Americans" being from rural, lily-white Mayberry towns. This certainly makes you realize both Jenkins and Palin as well as most Republicans consider Michael Steele a mere token and not one of their Leaders or their Hope!

As the Republicans continue to dig this hole for themselves, it appears their only figures of hope at this time are the lollipop kids, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh! Shame! PS: Don't look for any minorities to vote Republican any time soon!

Limbaugh said in March, "Before it's all over, it'll be called the Ted Kennedy Memorial Health Care Bill." Limbaugh, perhaps the most callous, evil, harbinger of death, LAUGHed about his prediction today. Meanwhile crybaby Beck pleaded for his audience to turn terrorist and attack our President! U.S. New Home Sales Jump 9.6%, Most in Four Years
Purchases of new homes in the U.S. jumped more than forecast in July, adding to signs that the economy is rebounding from the worst recession since the 1930s. Sales increased 9.6 percent, the most since February 2005, to a 433,000 annual pace, figures from the Commerce Department showed today in Washington. The number of houses on the market dropped to the lowest level in 16 years.

The gain in sales, together with rising purchases of existing homes and steadying prices, indicate the housing slump may be ending as Federal Reserve efforts to thaw credit and the Obama administration’s first-time homebuyer incentives lift demand. Job losses and mounting foreclosures mean any rebound in construction may be limited. “We’re seeing a clear pickup in housing activity,” said Michael Moran, chief economist at Daiwa Securities America Inc. in New York. “The correction phase is essentially over and we expect continued improvement, though not a vigorous pickup.”

Homebuilders’ stocks surged after the report, with the Standard & Poor’s Supercomposite Homebuilding Index gaining 3.7 percent as of 10:23 a.m. in New York. The broader S&P 500 Stock Index was up 0.4 percent at 1,031.95. Benchmark 10-year Treasury yields were little changed, at 3.45 percent.

Loser Limbaugh Jealous of the President's and Congress's Successes!

Poor Loser Limbaugh. Poor Loser Dobbs. Though they dreamed of Failure for our President and for our Country, their dreams are shattering. The economy is improving. The nation's gross domestic product declined 1% in the second quarter, less than expected and better than the first quarter's drop. The S&P 500 Index has risen 12 percent during earnings season. Many aspects of our President's Stimulus package are extremely popular.

I saw an interesting poll today. Our President Obama's popularity numbers are rising in the North, in the East and in the West. Over 90% believe he is a citizen and think the Birther's are nutcases. His numbers are rising among young people and educated people.

Bring it On Racist Tancredo! Silly Smear Machine Republicans Like You Who Live in Glass Houses Should NOT Call the Honorable Judge Sotomayor a Racist!

Racist Tom Tancredo, the guy who called Miami a 3rd world country, the racist who told people in El Paso concerned about a fence dividing up their land to move to Mexico and, to top it off, in March he admitted the Immigration issue IS about Race.
In March, Tancredo said, "Throughout history, people who are NOT white Anglo-Saxon have become American by adopting a white Anglo-Saxon culture." He insists all minority immigrants have to become white northern Europeans if they want to assimilate to become Americans. What a racist nutcase!

Now this evil nutcase has the absolute gall to call the honorable justice Sotomayor a racist. I say to the evil Tancredo, "Bring it on Racist!"

Why is this nutcase (and others like him, like Beck and Limpbaugh) saying this?

Apparently they got their chonies in a bunch because the honorable Judge Sotomayor said, "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
Not that racists like Tancredo care, Sotomayor was specifically discussing the importance of judicial diversity in determining race and sex discrimination cases. As a former Bush Justice Department lawyer John Yoo similarly stressed, the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas "is a black man with a much greater range of personal experience than most of the upper-class liberals who take potshots at him" and argued that Thomas' work on the court has been influenced by his understanding of the less fortunate acquired through personal experience. Additionally, Justice Sam Alito has talked about the importance of his proud Italian heritage when he has made his decisions.
Are racists like Tancredo, Beck and Limpbaugh in a time-warp? Do they not consider other Justices' comments when they make their blantant accusations? Do they not remember their own racist diatribes?

It is times like these that I appreciate the sanity of comments by Senators like John McCain in supporting a very qualified candidate like the Honorable Judge Sotomayor. Comments by the likes of Tancredo, Beck or Limpbaugh are not needed and instead, prove to divide vs rationalize. I almost feel sorry for these extreme Right Wing zealots. They do not have a clue. They only make the wedge between Latinos/Women VS Republicans even wider.

As long as the Republican party is controlled by these right wing extremists, we Latinos will NEVER, EVER Vote for your Candidates Again!!!

Republicans Are In Turmoil: Arlen Specter Switches Parties to become a Democrat Creating a 60 Seat Filibuster Proof Majority!

As I have frequently reported, Republicans are in a turmoil! Many are predicting a demise to the current Republican Party due to the extremist Right Wing of their party attempting a take-over of their agenda. These right wing extremists do not consider Michael Steele, the head of the RNC, as their leader. Instead, many of the extremists consider Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck their leaders with Sean Hannity and Michelle Malkin their primping queens.

Now, to add to their misery, Senator Arlen Specter, the staunch and powerful Republican from Pennsylvania, has switched parties. He will run in 2010 as a Democrat. Specter said the Republican Party has slanted too far to the Right and it is impossible for a moderate Republican to survive in their ranks. He said, "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans."

Specter's decision will give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate once Democrat Al Franken is sworn in as the next senator from Minnesota.

President Obama was informed of Specter's decision at around 10:25 a.m. today, according to White House officials, and reached out to the senator minutes later to tell him "you have my full support," and we are "thrilled to have you."

The move is a huge blow to the Republican party. Many are in an uproar over Specter's decision. Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell said one party rule posed a danger to the country and accused Senator Specter of acting in political self interest. South Carolina senator, Lindsay Graham said: "We got a problem.''
The extremists celebrated the purging of another moderate from the Republican ranks. Rush Limbaugh said, "Arlen Specter should take John and his daughter Meaghan McCain with him.'' Michelle Malkin, another right wing extremist said, "Don’t let the door hit you on the way out."

From my perspective, I often wonder about the Republicans. Why are so many of their stances on the wrong side of Humanity? From Economic recovery to Healthcare to Education to Immigration Reform to Civil Liberties. This makes me think of JFK. Did they hate the fact that he was introducing Civil Rights and the end to the Jim Crow laws so much that they despised him to the level they did? Do the extremists hate progress, equality for all and humanity so much? I question the agenda of the extremists on their side. Every time I read a comment section, their websites and their un-editted responses, I question their morality and their Americanism. Perhaps, like the pyramids of old, that type of thinking has run its course.

He forgets that the reference column was written by Ehrenstein in March, 2007, when Obama initially began his Presidential Campaign, long before his brilliant performance in the Presidential debates or his numerous interviews and close up discussions with the American people. The March 2007 article had NOTHING to do with Racism, rather the public's not knowing Obama well enough. (the debates cleared this up)

What Ehrenstein was talking about was the American Public not knowing Barack well.

4. His limp attempt at chastising the left for Racism, is actually Racism on his part for putting the racist "sharpton" immitating CD together!

5. The only Racist is Limpy! We know and understand Obama is a knowledgable and well informed, qualified elected candidate. Limpy on the other hand continues to raise these unsubstantiated accusations! He should be ashamed of himself.

As recently as 2006, McCain was schlepping with ACORN, attending their meetings, looking for their help promoting his Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill and for their support for his future Presidential bid. Now, as ACORN comes under investigation for a few Voter Registration anomalies, Sara Palin is trying to make a case that Obama is responsible for these anomalies. How ridiculous. Right Wingnut Shock Jocks like Limbaugh and Beck are trying to make the same ludicrous connection. The only vague connection they can come up with is back in 1992, when Obama was encouraging voter registration (prequel to Rock the Vote), one of the many organizations also encouraging voter registration was ACORN. It is abundantly clear that the kitchen sink dirty politics strategy the Republicans are currently promoting is both desperate and NOT WORKING!

Racist Limbaugh Calls Mayor Villaraigosa a "Shoe Shine Boy!"

Rush Limbaugh appeared on Fox News this week and insulted Los Angeles’ Hispanic mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Limbaugh said the first time he saw Mayor Villaraigosa he thought the Latino was a "Shoe Shine Boy." He was shocked to learn this Latino held such a high office and was, in fact, the Mayor of Los Angeles. Limbaugh repeated the same comment yesterday on his show.
I guess we should not be surprised by any outrageous, sexist or racist statements Limbaugh makes. As a reminder, some of Rush´s famous quotes include:
- Barack Obama a "Magic Negro."
- "I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark. "
- We're not sexists, we're chauvinists — we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want.
Limbaugh has made numerous outrageous remarks. These media zealots! They make a mockery of all Journalists.
Today, Penn Jillette was on Morning Joe. He joked and called Hillary the B word. Why are misogynistic insults ok? Why are racist terms ok? Have we degenerated to such low levels of communication that we view them all as ok? Are Sad Times Ahead?

Hey, you know what's a riot? Comparing one of the country's foremost Latino politicians to "a shoeshine guy" because of his race.
A spokesman for Antonio Villaraigosa says the Los Angeles mayor is planning a statement in response to an ethnically-flavored drive-by served up by Rush Limbaugh yesterday.
Limbaugh recalled in a segment about Hillary Clinton, the right-wing radio blabber recounted meeting Villaraigosa, who became the first Latino to head his city's government in 130 years in 2005, when Bill Clinton introduced the two of them in a restaurant last year.
"I shook [Clinton's] hand, he left, comes back [with] the mayor of Los Angeles," he told listeners. "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"
Oh my gosh indeed! He's just like a real-live mayor, but pigmenty. Who'd a thunk? Maybe Limbaugh will claim he was actually lampooning racist stereotypes, as Don Imus did after he called then-New York Times reporter Gwen Ifill "the cleaning lady." (Ifill's black. Get it?)
Update, 2:08 p.m.: Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, says: "What can I tell you? It's the same kind of nasty, bigoted, racist type of comment that has become so prevalent in today's society, as practiced by Lou Dobbs, as practiced by [Sean] Hannity, [Bill] O'Reilly, [Michael] Savage -- all these guys who are appealing to a particular bigoted audience, and fanning the fires of bigotry and racism by doing these kinds of things without real concern about the consequences of their words. And the consequences are that these kinds of comments have helped in raising the rate of crimes against Latinos 35 percent in last three years." (He attributes that figure to the FBI.) "These guys have no civility in their makeup, no compassion, and very little intelligence when it comes to opening their mouths."
