Racist Limbaugh Calls Mayor Villaraigosa a "Shoe Shine Boy!"

Rush Limbaugh appeared on Fox News this week and insulted Los Angeles’ Hispanic mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Limbaugh said the first time he saw Mayor Villaraigosa he thought the Latino was a "Shoe Shine Boy." He was shocked to learn this Latino held such a high office and was, in fact, the Mayor of Los Angeles. Limbaugh repeated the same comment yesterday on his show.
I guess we should not be surprised by any outrageous, sexist or racist statements Limbaugh makes. As a reminder, some of Rush´s famous quotes include:
- Barack Obama a "Magic Negro."
- "I mean, let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back; I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark. "
- We're not sexists, we're chauvinists — we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want.
Limbaugh has made numerous outrageous remarks. These media zealots! They make a mockery of all Journalists.
Today, Penn Jillette was on Morning Joe. He joked and called Hillary the B word. Why are misogynistic insults ok? Why are racist terms ok? Have we degenerated to such low levels of communication that we view them all as ok? Are Sad Times Ahead?

Mixed Media Reports:
Hey, you know what's a riot? Comparing one of the country's foremost Latino politicians to "a shoeshine guy" because of his race.
A spokesman for Antonio Villaraigosa says the Los Angeles mayor is planning a statement in response to an ethnically-flavored drive-by served up by Rush Limbaugh yesterday.

Limbaugh recalled in a segment about Hillary Clinton, the right-wing radio blabber recounted meeting Villaraigosa, who became the first Latino to head his city's government in 130 years in 2005, when Bill Clinton introduced the two of them in a restaurant last year.
"I shook [Clinton's] hand, he left, comes back [with] the mayor of Los Angeles," he told listeners. "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"
Oh my gosh indeed! He's just like a real-live mayor, but pigmenty. Who'd a thunk? Maybe Limbaugh will claim he was actually lampooning racist stereotypes, as Don Imus did after he called then-New York Times reporter
Gwen Ifill "the cleaning lady." (Ifill's black. Get it?)
Update, 2:08 p.m.: Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, says: "What can I tell you? It's the same kind of nasty, bigoted, racist type of comment that has become so prevalent in today's society, as practiced by Lou Dobbs, as practiced by [Sean] Hannity, [Bill] O'Reilly, [Michael] Savage -- all these guys who are appealing to a particular bigoted audience, and fanning the fires of bigotry and racism by doing these kinds of things without real concern about the consequences of their words. And the consequences are that these kinds of comments have helped in raising the rate of crimes against Latinos 35 percent in last three years." (He attributes that figure to the FBI.) "These guys have no civility in their makeup, no compassion, and very little intelligence when it comes to opening their mouths."

As usual you spin the truth, dee. Rush didn't call the mayor of L.A. a "shoeshine boy", he said that he thought he could be or a secret agent. That isn't the same thing as "calling" him one. Maybe he was dressed so casually that he didn't look like a mayor. You immediately go off on the race card of course.

IMO, we have become way to PC in this country. We should be past racism enough to the point of being able to poke a little fun at each other. I have heard a lot of comical remarks made about White people to and just as long as I know they are making a joke it doesn't offend me.

Of course I object to the "N" word and there is fine line between being insulting and just ribbing each other a little. We have become so PC in this country that we have lost our sense of humor. It really is a shame.

Pat,
Hah! My how you spin!
Everyone knows Villaraigosa as the Dapper Mayor! For you to ATTEMPT to rationalize the racist Limbaughs comments due to the way the honorable mayor was dressed is absolutely ludicrous!

Dee said...

Admit it Pat.
Limbaugh is a misogynist and a racist!

dee. you left out 'drug addict'.

You are right George!
Thank you for reminding me!
Glad you finished your Finals and Survived!!

I get what patriot is saying about the effects of PC in today's society. Still, it floors me when people who ought to know better say something completely moronic. Don Imus' nappy-fiasco, Kramer's melt down, Ferraro's racist comments about Obama, Mel Gibson's anti-semitic tirade, etc... It makes you just wonder what in the heck were they thinking! BTW, being drunk or high on oxycodone does not excuse racism.

You sure do miss a lot of pertinent information.

From your own link

Update, 12:52 p.m.: Villaraigosa's press secretary, Matt Szabo, says the mayor "has no plans to issue a statement." He says it was a miscommunication that led another member of the press office to tell me a statement was in the works.

All worked up over nothing, you are.

Wrong, dee! Rush said he was shocked to learn that the man he met was the mayor of Los Angeles and as I said for him to say that he probably didn't recognize him and he was probably was dressed very casually so he didn't realize it was the mayor he was meeting. He also said that he thought he could be a secret agent. Why didn't you mention that in your topic headline? You wanted to put emphasis on the other so you could play the race card yet again!

Even if you attempt to put it into perspective, it's still a stupid thing to say. Calling anyone "a shoe shine guy" is offensive. Personally, I'm not buying into the 'innocent little comment' response. Limbaugh knew what he was saying.

You don't think ol' Alex is mad because the Mayor didn't issue a statement, do you? Alex is nothing more then a race baiter, worthless scum out to try to make a name for himself on the backs of others.

Whats being failed to see is that Limbaugh didn't call him anything, the thoughts were going through his mind, however he repeated what his thoughts were in the telling of this story about Clinton hitting on Rush's date that evening, how Clinton gave Rush the diversion by bringing over the Mayor.

Dee said...

This diarist had it right. Limbaugh felt so inadequate with Bill around, he was paranoid about losing his date. Then he makes these assumptions about the Mayor.

Limbaugh should be ashamed of himself.

"In Limbaugh’s weird sky-colored world, he said Clinton used the mayor to distract his Rush-numbnuttedness, so Clinton could hit on Rush’s date.

That was when, Limbaugh noted the mayor looking like either a shoeshine guy or a government agent.

You'd think after any woman who was stupid enough to go out with Rush, would have relished being “hit on” by Bill. And, are there still people who shine shoes? -- an honorable profession."

LA Observed.com says

Rush Limbaugh gives his side of the restaurant meeting last year, where Bill Clinton brought over the mayor for an introduction: "I thought it was a Secret Service agent, maybe a shoeshine guy. Turns out he gives me his card, I said, 'Oh, my gosh, it's the mayor of Los Angeles.'"

Dee,

You are a perfect example of a nation-busting brown nationalist. You can barely admit that the US is majority white. The slightest harm that comes to your ethnic group is grounds for hysteria. Example: Rush Limbaugh, the most mild-mannered, inoffensive, bland "conservative" out there. A bit of mild 'villa'-fication from that quarter and you go bananas.

LIMBAUGH IS A JOKE and has no business being on radio, THANK GOD if he has anything it's radio and also THANK GOD for a radio nob, what he said is wrong and he isn't even worth typing anymore about that racist/sexist pig

Hran,
You consider Limbaugh a mild mannered conservative?
Yikes!
I guess you are used to hard core WNs. (very scary)
