US Army Recruits Illegal Immigrants

The US military says it has met its recruitment goals for 2007, with Illegal Immigrants, sending them to Iraq!
However, signing new soldiers is getting more difficult. New figures reveal there has been a 40 per cent drop in African-Americans signing up for the army.

It is truly sad if our government has dropped to this level of ignoring our own laws. Enlisting illegal aliens in our military to protect our country is a new low for them. These people have no allegiance to our country. It is just a mercenary move on their part. This is the ultimate slap in the face by our government to the American people and those citizen vets who served in our wars throughout our history.

I am all for implementing the draft again if we need more military personnel but enlisting illegals is an unethical thing for our government to do.

"...particularly in Iraq! " I seriously doubt the Army is doing much recruiting in Iraq.

As a former member of the US Armed Forces (US Army 1986-1994, GW1 Vet), I can attest that recruiters, for the most part, are very truthful in explaining what to expect as a member of the armed services. However there are those that will do and say anything to hit there numbers, these are the recruiters that should be expelled form the military with a dishonorable discharge. It is these recruiters that are not just lying and encouraging people to join the military under false pretense, but they are also the ones that are recruiting the "Illegal Immigrants". Any American Vet or Member of the Armed Services, would be the first to chastise and want removed these unscrupulous recruiters.

Liquid,
You and I finally agree on something!

Currently, Pentagon policy stipulates that only immigrants legally residing in the United States are eligible to enlist. There are currently about 30,000 non-citizens who serve in the US armed forces, making up about 2 percent of the active-duty force, according to statistics from the military and the Council on Foreign Relations. About 100 non-citizens (legal residents) have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"With today's demands placing such a high strain on our service members, it becomes more crucial than ever that we work to alleviate their burden," said Representative Ike Skelton , a Missouri Democrat who is set to chair the House Armed Services Committee, and who has been calling for a larger Army for more than a decade.

But it would take years and billions of dollars to recruit, train, and equip the 30,000 troops and 5,000 Marines the Pentagon says it needs. And military recruiters, fighting the perception that signing up means a ticket to Baghdad, have had to rely on financial incentives and lower standards to meet their quotas.

That has led Pentagon officials to consider casting a wider net for noncitizens who are already here, said Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Hilferty , an Army spokesman.

Already, the Army and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement division of the Department of Homeland Security have "made it easier for green-card holders who do enlist to get their citizenship," Hilferty said.

I personally believe that every American Citizen male (that is capable) at the age of 18, must enlist into the military for a minimum of 3 years active duty with 5 additional years of reserve status to be called upon if needed. There would be exceptions based on how many sons a mother may have, or how many males may carry on their last name. At this time, I also believe the draft should be re-instated.

Great story! Too bad it's just a story from a woman that supports illegal activity.

The only "evidence" portrayed by the video that would suggest that the military is recruiting illegal immigrants comes from a teacher who said that she heard someone else saying it. That is what we call hearsay.

Then again, if not for hearsay and imagination, Dee would not have a blog. We still have not seen her report from the FBI that would connect Rund to the MinuteMen, have we?

Dee is the kind of reporter that would see a dog swallow an aspirin and get run over by a truck, and blame it on the aspirin.

Yes Dee...bullshit stinks!

Liquid,
Although it breaks my heart, I do agree if the battles continue to escalate in Iraq and bordering countries, particularly Iran we need a plan to expand the number of troops. Whether it be the Draft or agreement to allow illegal immigrants to attain citizenship or another option, one thing is clear, we do need more troops or we need to withdraw from Iraq.

Anon, There are many sites that attest to this video. Google it.

Also, name calling is easy if you remain anonymous. Please try to keep the conversations civil.

When dee can't prove anything she says "google it".

I think we should all remain civil when you do so first since this is your blog.

these illegals might just be joining for the money and the citizenship but dont say that they have no loyalty to this country. they will fight just like any other uniformed soldier out there. they mainly do it for their families. implementing the draft would be saying the same thing. you really think that someone that is forced to do something will be loyal to that country? the problem is that the citizens of this country have lost their patratism. or have lost thier balls. if citizens from the U.S. would be more willing to protect their own country then there would be no reason to look elsewhere for soldiers.

your an idiot first that is a Marine on that video picture not an Army Soldier. The white hat buttoned collor kinda give it away. Second it is prohibited by the pentagon to enlist an illegal alien. They must have an I-551 crad AKA a green card, be naturalized citizen, citizen of a US Territory, or a citizen born here. The recruit must provide evidence at time of enlistment. If an illegal can provide that evidence then yes he will be enlisted, however the illegal is the one providing false documentations and if caught should be charged with fraud

It seems to me that joining the military is the most noble way for an illegal immigrant to gain citizenship and earn their green card visa. Why would such a trade be bad? On the surface it appears to be quite positive for all involved.

My niece is 29 years old.She came here on a visitaion visa when she was 9.Her mom abandoned her with us and she graduated high school here. She has an american born daughter,is a single mom and she got deported and they both now live in Juarez,Mex.she would love to serve the United States to provide for her daughter. We are lost.

Carmen,
Did she have an immigration attorney before she was deported? It is sad she was deported before the change to bypass non felonious criminals. We do need Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

You may want to contact an Immigration attorney and see if there is any way for you to sponsor her to return to care for her American born daughter, even on a temporary basis, until CIR is in place.

One thing we have to remember is that we have inhabitants in the United States that have lived their entire life and do not know what their country of origin is like. The only patriotism they have is to the country they have know and lived in.
