sb1070 heightens racism and racial profiling across America! Example: Omaha Nebraska

OMAHA- A group of Lincoln East High School students are in trouble for a 'racist' celebration following the school's state soccer title last Tuesday night. Tens of dozens of Lincoln East students and fans rushed the field after the varsity boy's soccer team beat Omaha South High School in overtime. As the Lincoln East group stormed the field, pouncing on the soccer team throwing dozens of "Green Cards" on the Latino students. Obvious Racism and Racial Profiling on Omaha South players and student body. Nearly 60 percent of that school's student body are Latino. Omaha South's Coach said the Green Card throwing was so blatant and long-lasting, they even through the Green Cards throughout the medal awarding ceremonies.

"I thought it was confetti, but once I saw it close up I saw it was green cards." said Omaha South mid–fielder Manuel Lira. "It was planned. It's not as if they started cutting paper there at the field, they brought the cards with them."

Other Omaha South students and staff were just as outraged Wednesday. "It happens more than you know. Maybe not physically, but sometimes statements are made," said school Principal Cara Riggs.

Lincoln East officials told FOX 42 they believe only one or two fans were actually responsible for throwing the cards even though videos reveal the actions were performed by numerous racist students. The videos reveal the racist student perpetrators and a number of students face suspension for coming up with the idea in the first place, according to Associate Principal Dennis Mann.

"It's a black eye," said Mann. "We feel like we're back several decades.. a number of our students are deeply ashamed." Mann said a large portion of the student body spent Wednesday thinking of ways to make amends with Omaha South students. He says it is unfortunate the team's undefeated season is being tarnished because of the actions of a few fans. The student's involved–the school isn't releasing their names–will be suspended and write letters of apology.

The Arizona Republic : Travel and Hotels Sales People : They don't return our calls anymore - They don't even want to talk to Arizonans

Information is Polluted and Contaminated by Hate, Fear and Racism :

If you watch Televions, read the Newspapers and follow the Internet you may get the wrong impression that the Tourism and Travel Boycott of Arizona is a failure and that Arizona is a busy beehive of Tourists and Conventions - Nothing farther from the Truth !

Governor out to rebrand Arizona over immigration law criticism

http://www.azcentral.com/news/election/azelections/articles/2010/05/13/20100513governor-rebrand-arizona-over-immigration-law-criticism13-ON.html

Some excerpts :

Officials were just starting to see signs of life when the backlash over the new immigration law began, said Debbie Johnson, CEO of the Arizona Tourism Alliance and the Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association.

To date, dozens of cities and groups have announced boycotts. Arizona has lost at least 30 to 40 meetings and conventions, she said.

"We were surprised by (the boycotts)," Johnson said. "We didn't think it was going to be a tourism issue. This is a political issue."

The new task force has about 15 members representing business throughout the state's tourism industry.

They said stopping the boycotts is a top priority because they are worried about the approximately 200,000 hotel workers, restaurant employees and others who could lose their jobs if the industry can't find a way to lure new business here.

As part of their effort, officials plan to revive a past campaign that encourages Arizonans to take advantages of specials and deals and vacation within the state. How to rebrand the state to potential visitors has not yet been decided.

A big issue, Johnson said, is "tentative" bookings and new business, those groups that have indicated they were interested in coming here between 2011 and 2015 but are now refusing to sign contracts.

"We're hearing from our sales people in the hotels and resorts, that people aren't returning their calls anymore - that they don't even want to talk to Arizonans," she said.

This story misses the point which is how many of the Omaha South students or their parents are illegal aliens. Students should be allowed to exercise their freedom of speech just like anyone else. I think the principal is off base. Whatever your take on this incident, you should be standing up for the freedom of expression. How does this compare with the affront on our sensibilities of the burning of the American flag?

Maybe I will go to Arizona and throw white hoods at the Az state legislators. After all, it is all about freedom of speech.

Perhaps at the next game the Hispanic kids can throw
cards that say racist with a cracker glued to the cards. After all it is freedom of speech.

Profiling Didn't Happen in Virginia
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA (KOLD) - For the last three years, a county in Virginia has remained under the radar in the immigration debate even though it has a law almost identical to Arizona's immigration law.

The ordinance in Prince William County was passed in 2007. It initially required police to check the status of detainees they suspected of being undocumented immigrants but one year later it was revised.

Officers now question all criminal suspects about their immigration status once an arrest is made.

In 2008, the University of Virginia conducted a survey to see what effects, if any, the Prince William County law had. It concluded initial fears about racial profiling did not happen.

It also shows that schools saw a drop in English as a second language enrollment. There was also a drop in uninsured mothers giving birth and individuals turned over to immigration and customs enforcement.

Thank you Ultima, you are correct. No one knows how that law has affected Prince William County.

As you watch the video please take note of the woman who blames 9 - 11 on illegal immigration when in fact all the hijackers came here legally.

Synopsis of 9500 Liberty

Prince William County, Virginia becomes ground zero in America’s explosive battle over immigration policy when elected officials adopt a law requiring police officers to question anyone they have "probable cause" to suspect is an undocumented immigrant.

Anonymous wants to throw white hoods at legislators and allow the Hispanic kids to throw crackers attached to cards with the word "racist" on them. I suspect he knows that there are some limits to freedom of speech but not very many. For example, you can't get away with throwing a pie in the face of someone. That is not a freedom of speech issue. It is simple assault. Throwing white hoods at legislators might be thought of in the same vein. I would support the Hispanic kids right to play the racist card as a matter of their freedom of speech but they would be wrong about that. Everyone likes to cast such actions as racist because they think that will arouse the passions of people more than the truth. Instead of racism I think the students were expressing the same frustration as other Americans who see their immigration laws unenforced. They were simply questioning the rights of the other students to even be in this country and you can be sure that many of them were and probably the majority of their parents also have questionable credentials. If I am correct, and the students probably know better than it do, then I think their action was fully justified. After all we do permit street demonstrations with foreign flags. Oh, I get it. Only foreigners can express their views without repercussions!

Ultima,
I think you have lost it. You condone the green card throwers at young latino students, which is a very racist action, yet, if the latino students retaliate by throwing crackers at the racist students you claim that is wrong?

Absolutely ridiculous and one sided. That makes NO SENSE.

You can either say BOTH ACTIONS are WRONG and chastise both actions OR you can say BOTH SIDES have Freedom of Speech and can DO BOTH! But you CANNOT allow one and refute the other. That is biased and wrong! Shame on you!!
